Wanda Cofty. 65, of Bon Wier, TX, passed from this life on Monday, October 3, 2016 in DeRidder, LA.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Stephanie Mitchell and Alvin of Bon Wier, TX; brothers, Bruce Jacks of Newton, TX, Milton Jacks and Tina of Kirbyville, TX and Aubrey Jacks and Vickie of Call, TX; sisters, Beverly Stroope of Midland, TX, Judy Hall of Call, TX and Angela Jacks Eaves of Call, TX; Grand Children, Sydnie and Morgan Mitchell. A host of nieces, nephews family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Audie and Virgil Jacks, sister, Erble Robinson and brother, Wayman Jacks.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 PM at The United Pentecostal Church in Bon Wier, TX. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at The United Pentecostal Church in Bon Wier, TX. Burial will follow in Davis cemetery in Fawil, TX.

Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Lydia Joycelyn Ross McKee

Lydia Joycelyn Ross McKee, 92, of Leesville, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5-9 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in Deridder, LA. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10 AM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in Rosepine cemetery in Rosepine, LA.

Those left to cherish her memory: son, Ted McKee of Rosepine, LA; daughter, JoAnne McKee of Rosepine, LA; grandchildren, Tony Jeane & Nona of Leesville, LA, Michele Jeane Goins & Scotty of Anacoco, LA and Tab Power I & Leah of Leesville, LA; great grandchildren, Mitch Jeane, Bradley Goins, Alex Jeane, Whitney Goins, Coral Jeane and Tab Power II.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Silas McKee.

Many thanks to her care givers: Dawnette Hoskins and Companion Care, LaNan James, Daphne Leach and Ruth Ray.

Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Barbara Collins Farris

Barbara Ann Collins Farris, 66, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5-9 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow in Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Mark Klingler (Diane) of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Melissa Craig (Jerry) of Hope, IN; brothers, James A. Collins (Lavada) of Hope, AR, Gary Barbee (Millie) of DeRidder, LA and Ricky L. Collins (Jeana) of Deridder, LA; sisters, JoAnn Faciane (Bert) of Slidell, LA, Dianne Johnson (Don) of Keota, OK, Brenda Franks of Merryville, LA and Joy Collins of Merryville, LA; Five Grandchildren, Two Great Grandchildren and A host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joy & James Collins, brothers, Larry D. Collins & Sammy J. Collins.

Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Charles Richard Alcorn Sr.

Charles Richard Alcorn, Sr., 79, passed away at his home in Knight Community of Vernon Parish, Louisiana surrounded by his family on September 25, 2016.

He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church also in the Knight Community. Charles was very active in sports with the youth of Pitkin Community, and was also an avid domino and pool player winning several trophies. Most of all, Charles, Sr. was known by everyone (family and friends of Vernon Parish as well as surrounding areas) as a very, very avid fisherman.

Charles was born on June 6, 1937 in Burnside, Kentucky of Pulaski County, attending school in New Castle, Indiana. He joined the U.S. Army, serving 3 years, being discharged out at Fort Polk, Louisiana, living the remainder of his life in Pitkin, Louisiana – with the last 21 years being in the Knight Community. Charles retired from the Vernon Parish School Board system after nineteen and a half years as a bus driver for Pitkin schools.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Cox and Thomas Shelby Alcorn, Sr.; his brothers, Lester Douglas “Toodler” Alcorn, Thomas Shelby Alcorn, Jr., James Albert Alcorn, Theodore L. Alcorn, William A. Alcorn; and a sister, Nora N. Alcorn.

Charles is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Loftin Alcorn of Knight Community; his sons, Charles Richard Alcorn, Jr. and wife Kyla of Slagle, LA, Stephen Gerald Slaydon and wife Gloria of DeRidder, LA; his daughters, Susan Alcorn Taggart and husband Richard of Covington, LA, Mary Catherine Alcorn of Baton Rouge, LA, Shelia Diane Alcorn Brady and husband Jerry of Pitkin, LA, Marie Mechelle Burke Gill and husband Ovie of DeRidder, LA; his brothers, David E. Alcorn and wife Susan of New Castle, IN, George R. Alcorn and wife Carolyn of Indianapolis, IN, John B. Alcorn and wife Judy of North Vernon, IN, Horace E. Alcorn and wife Ruth of Burnside, KY; nine grandchildren, Cassie D. Young and husband Scott, Krista N. Brady, Mescina L. Pierce, Frank G. Pierce, Matthew S. Gill, William J. Slaydon, Ashlee M. Slaydon, Richard J. Taggart, Brentley P. Bolton; nine great grandchildren with one more on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5:00-10:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of the Knight Community, Vernon Parish, LA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM also at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Hinson cemetery of the Knight Community.

Shelton Matthis Sr.

Shelton E. Matthis, Sr., 81 of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Friday, September 23, 2016 in DeRidder, LA.

Mr. Matthis is survived by his son, Shelton E. Matthis, Jr. and wife Mary of Merryville, LA; his daughter, Tammye Gamez and husband Jerrell of Shepherd, TX; his brothers, Sam Matthis and wife Judy of Merryville, LA, Kenneth Matthis and wife Wanda of Merryville, LA; his sister, Lola Mae Morrison of Merryville, LA; his granddaughters, Crystal Galvan and husband Theo of Morton, TX, Chancly Rassau and husband Jacob of Monument, KS, Casey Gamez of Shepherd, TX; his great grandchildren, Tyler Galvan, Maverick Galvan; and a host of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ada Matthis; his brothers, Theron Collins, Autwan Matthis, Billy Glen Matthis and his sister, Annie Belle Moses.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. Burial will follow at Cooper cemetery in Merryville, LA.

Winston Hunt

Winston Ray Hunt, 84, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, September 23, 2016 at his residence in Lake Charles, LA.

Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Jessie C. Hunt of Lake Charles, LA; his sons, Winston Ray Hunt, II and wife Terri of Baton Rouge, LA, Charles Burgin and wife Anna of Lake Charles, LA, Scotty Burgin of Lake Charles, LA, Vernon Burgin and wife Connie of Ragley, LA, Dillon Hunt and wife Evie of DeRidder, LA; his daughters, Mary Kay Burgin and husband Jack of Lake Charles, LA, Artie Mae Christian of DeRidder, LA, Julie Rae Trahan and husband Greg of DeRidder, LA; his brother, W. L. Hunt of Rosepine, LA; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lena Hunt; his sister, Charlene James; his son, Jake H. Burgin; his granddaughter, Christina Burgin; and his grandson, Derek Rodrigues.

Visitation was held Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 5:00-10:00 pm at the Pentecostal Worship Center in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm also at Pentecostal Worship Center in DeRidder. Reverend Tommy McGee and Brother Tim Winstine will officiate. Pallbearers are Harvey Hickman, Charles Burgin, Jack Burgin, Jr., Dillon Hunt, Hailey Hunt, and Chris Rodriguez. Burial will follow at Hopewell cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Mr. Hunt was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved Bundicks Lake, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved gardening and spending time with his family, his children and grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Carole Lynell Owens Johnson

Carole Lynell Owens Johnson, 73, of Rosepine, LA, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Those left to cherish her memory are her spouse, Damon Johnson; her son, Kenneth N. Jones, Jr. and wife Rayla of Kansas City, MO; her daughters, Charla S. Durham and husband David of DeRidder, LA, Carole Jones of Hornbeck, LA; her brothers, W. Alvin Owens and wife Laverne of Alexandria, LA, Danny Owens and wife Kaye of DeRidder, LA, James K. Owens and wife Jeanne of Lake Charles, LA, Billy N. Owens and wife Lettie of Rosepine, LA; seven grandchildren, Callie Jones, Kenneth N. Jones, III, Skylar Jones, Anthony Dick, Samantha Kuzian, Max Kuzian, Paighten Dick; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sister Lynell was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend and Mrs. W. H. Owens; her infant triplet sons; and her brother, Teddy Owens.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 4:00-9:00 pm at the United Pentecostal Church in Rosepine, LA. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2016 at 10:00 am also at Rosepine United Pentecostal Church. Reverend Gary Bankson, Reverend Cole Weeks and Mr. Alvin Owens will officiate. Pallbearers are Kenneth Jones, III, Steve White, Mark Juarz, Tony Dick, Anthony Owens, B.J. Bjornberg and Honorary Pallbearers are Trey Bjornberg and Tommy Droddy. Burial will follow at the Louisiana Veterans cemetery in Leesville, LA.

Sister Lynell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express their gratitude to her church family and the many relatives, friends and neighbors for the kindness shown throughout her courageous journey home.

Vesta Foshee

Vesta Louise Foshee, 72, entered eternal rest on September 20, 2016 surrounded by her children.

Born November 20, 1943 to the late Grant and Alice Schmitt. She was a homemaker and a lifelong babysitter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and great grandson baby Mikie Hudson, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years Bobby W. Foshee of Merryville, LA; daughters, Charlotte Jarrell and husband Mike and Sherry Rucker and husband Don; sons, Bruce Foshee and wife Barbara and Bobby R. Foshee and wife Kathy all of Merryville, LA; sisters, Mary Sautter of Merryville, LA, Barbara Hindsman of DeRidder, LA and Yvonne Lorenz of Oretta, LA; grandchildren, Troy“T” Hudson, Jr, Stephanie Blankenbaker, Michael Hudson, Teresa Foshee, Kaitlyn Blackmon, Kyle Braneff, Brandon Foshee, Luke Foshee, Eli Foshee and Jaxson Foshee. great grandchildren, Torie Hudson, Kinnidi Jarrell, Kaleigh Hudson, Paisyn Blackmon and Sawyer Blackmon; great great grandson, Kayson Jarrell. A host of nieces, nephews and friends.
