Anna Verne Callaway Cole

Anna Verne Callaway Cole was born March 8, 1929 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She passed away May 7, 2018. She was well known to most everyone simply as “MamMaw”. She was a passionate, devoted, loving, Christian Mother and Grandmother, not only to her family but to countless others she met and loved. She was known for her feisty, yet good natured, sense of humor. The pain of her absence is already felt by all who knew and loved her.

Anna Verne graduated from DeQuincy High School participating in basketball, cheerleading, homecoming court, 4-H, and serving on the annual staff, being voted best all-around in her class of 1946. That was truly a fitting honor because she has always been the best all – around in life.

After raising her daughters, Anna Verne attended McNeese State University receiving a BA in Elementary Education. Teaching was not just an occupation to her, it was her passion. She absolutely loved team teaching with her dearest friend and “co-heart in mischief” Sally Smith. Together they helped nurture the education of many young children in the Ragley area. After retiring, she always remarked how much she loved teaching and how she missed the kids. MamMaw especially loved teaching her Grandkids to read and take great pride in their education. She continued until her death teaching valuable life skills to her family.

Cole, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Judy Guidry (Glen) and Jan Outlaw of Ragley; 7 Grandchildren; Neil Guidry (Carolyn), Kyla Cole (Jason), Joni Fontenot (Josh), Michael Nicholson (Mary Ryan), Lisa Spooner (Brandon), Jana Hudson (C.J.) and Kelby Outlaw; 17 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great- Great Grandchildren; and countless friends and relatives.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday, May 10 from 4-9 PM at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the service at 2:00 PM at Magnolia Baptist Church. Services will be officiated by Rev. Wilton Anthony, Rev. David Free and Rev. Carlie Jackson under the direction of Myers Colonial Funeral Home.

The family would also like to extend our heart-felt appreciation to the many wonderful family and friends that helped insure that “MamMaw” was comfortable and felt loved her final months at home. She always said that she was truly blessed to have such wonderful friends in her life. We also want to share our sincere appreciation to Dr. Brian Clements, Hardy Myers, Blake Walker, Cathy Coleman, and Brighton Bridge Hospice (Carla, Anna, Roni, and Lauren) for your compassionate loving care.
