Bobbie Lee Johnston

Bobbie Lee Johnston, 86, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, December 17, 2017.

Bobbie was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 63 years, where she raised her family in the Lord. She loved her church family and always enjoyed being in church with them and serving where she was needed. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, and Hospice for the care of Ms. Bobbie during the past months. A special thanks to Melinda, for putting her life on hold and taking care of Mom. Bobbie looked forward to the times spent with her family, playing games, eating, laughing, talking and enjoying each other. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time outside, taking care of her flowers and plants, and enjoyed fishing when time permitted. Family was very important to her and she treasured the time spent with them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael Smith and wife Nancy of Junction Community, LA, James L. Smith of DeRidder, LA and Leslie Warren Smith and wife Joyce of Chickasha, OK; daughters, Vickie Marie Pinkard and husband William of Cleveland, TX and Melinda Darlene Whiddon of DeRidder, LA; brother, Virgil Cantrell and wife Claudette of DeRidder, LA; sister, Geneva Richards of Bono, AK; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

receding her in death are her two husbands, Warren A. Smith and Lonnie Johnston; daughter, Lisa Annette Smith; parents, Elice and Pearl Cantrell; and three brothers, William H., Sylvester and Jack Cantrell.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home DeRidder, LA. Visitation will continue on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA beginning at 9:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM with Brother Frank Ott, Brother Alfred Kennedy and Brother Hershel Davis officiating. Pallbearers are William Pinkard, Ramon Shaw, Johnathan Allen, Dusty Whiddon, Tim Cantrell and Agelo Cantrell. Burial will follow at Lewis cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Willie Lee McKnight

Willie Lee McKnight, 66, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Friday, December 15, 2017.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Norris Memorial Church of God in Christ in DeRidder, LA.

Elsie Melvenna Lois Thedford
Elsie Melvenna Lois Thedford, 40, of Midwest City, OK, passed from this life on December 8, 2017.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA.

Barbara Ann Shinn

Barbara Ann Shinn, 85, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on December 13, 2017.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Frank Shinn of Merryville, LA; son, Frank Shinn, Jr. “Skipper” and wife Terry of Benton, LA; two grandchildren, Amber Shinn Rivers & Chris of Galena, IL and Darla Gaydos of Bossier City, LA; six great grandchildren, Logan Westbrook, Logan Gaydos, J.T. Gaydos, Kyler Westbrook, Greyson Westbrook and Macy Rivers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Alva Collins; her sister, Alva Joyce Collins Klare; and her son Eddie Lee Shinn.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5:00-8:00PM at Bilbo Church of Christ in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00AM, also at Bilbo Church of Christ. Wayne Farris will officiate. Pallbearers will be Joe Ewing, Stoney Doyle, Jon Eaves, David Castle, Ernie Cole and Larry Cooley. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath cemetery in Bossier City, LA at 3:00PM.

Anyone who knew Ms. Shinn would know, without a doubt, that she was an avid Merryville Panther fan! She loved her sports! She served as the 4-H leader for nearly 40 years, helping the students and serving her community. She was an active member of her church and gladly served in any area she was needed. She will truly be missed, and her memory forever treasured in our hearts, by all who knew and loved her.

Beaver Bishop Knighton

Beaver Bishop Knighton, Sr., 90, of Merryville, LA, was born on July 14, 1927 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 11, 2017.

Beaver was a 1958 graduate of Grambling State University. After college, he was drafted into the Army in 1952, for the Korean Conflict. After the Army, he went back to college and received his bachelor’s degree and began his teaching and coaching career, which would last 31 years. He was an Alderman for the Town of Merryville, Supervisor of Calcasieu Soil and Water Association and a member of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael Knighton and Pamela of Merryville, LA, and Beaver Knighton, Jr. and Tonya of Sugarland, TX; daughter, Michele Knighton Spikes and Mac of DeRidder, LA; brother, Weldon Knighton of Lake Charles, LA; seven grandchildren: Derek Knighton, Terrell Knighton, Christen Knighton, Michael Knighton, Jr., Michaela Knighton, MacKennon Spikes and Mason Spikes; two great grandchildren: Devin Knighton and Darius Knighton and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. Knighton was preceded in death by his wife, Modestine Gill Knighton; his six brothers: Sheppard, Thomas, Clarence, Verlie, Don Jr., and Elmo Knighton; his four sisters: Versie Shelton, Negatha Knighton Wallace, Ersie Conley and Hessie Lane.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 5:00PM to 9:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017 also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Reverend Wilfert Williams will be officiating. Burial will follow at North Merryville Community cemetery in Merryville, LA.

Harland James Hollie

Harland James Hollie, 75, of Fields, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Harland loved to hunt and raise a garden. He was a driller in the oil production business and loved his job. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Harland will forever be cherished in our hearts and truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Hollie of Fields, LA; son, Lebon John Duhon & Nina of Hargrove, LA; daughters, Vicki Sue Smith & Eddie of Fields, LA; Youlanda Jeanice Smith & David of Starks, LA; Helina Jean Sandoz & Steve of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, T. J. Hollie of Iota, LA, Henry Hollie of Jasper, TX, Ralph Hollie of Fields, LA, Gary Hollie of Fields, LA, Ronald Hollie of Dequincy, LA; sister, Henrietta Foster of Starks, LA; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Naomi Hollie; one daughter, Trudy Duhon Williams; three brothers: Alton, Larry and Danny Hollie and one sister, Betty Ledford.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 5:00-10:00PM at Calvary Apostolic Church, in Starks, LA. Service will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 12:00PM, also at Calvary Apostolic Church. Pastor Jeremy Shields will officiate. Pallbearers will be Lebon Duhon, Justin Duhon, Casey Bolton, Shorty (Eddie) Smith, Jr., Ronald Hollie, Jr., Alton Hollie, Jr., Gabby Faulk, and Terry Bloodworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Bro. Pond, Bro. Kenny, Bro. Mack, Bro. J.L. Bussell, and Trey Smith. Burial will follow at Hyatt cemetery in Fields, LA.

James Cleveland Singletary, Jr.

James Cleveland Singletary, Jr., 62, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, James C. and Patricia O. Singletary, Sr. of Merryville, LA; brother, John A. Singletary and Deborah of Merryville, LA; nieces, Sarah Marquez & Angelo of Oklahoma and Marley Wisnoski of Texas; great nephews, Roman Marquez of Oklahoma and Owen Wisnoski of Texas; special uncle, James M. O'Reilly; close friends, Herman and Regina Hall of Rosepine, LA; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Continuing visitation and service will be held Monday, January 22, 2018, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jerry Key. Burial will follow at Rosepine cemetery in Rosepine, LA.

He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Couretta Michelle Johnson Sirmans

Couretta Michelle, 48, known to friends as “smoke” transitioned to her heavenly home on January 2, 2018 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Couretta was born to the late Mack B. “The Bull” Johnson and Christine Cooksey Johnson, in DeRidder, LA on January 13, 1969. She was the twelfth of thirteen siblings. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Clay Johnson (DeRidder), and Elmer “Big E” Johnson (DeRidder).

At an early age, Couretta united with Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, until she enlisted with the United Sates Army in September of 1988. Sergeant First Class, Couretta, faithfully served her country for 24 years. On August 9, 1991, Couretta married her love Keith Sirmans, and from this marriage, Courey Mack was born – the love of both their lives. After retirement, she continued her education to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. Couretta was a great athlete. Her mother taught her the importance of good health which enhanced her passion for track. Couretta ran in numerous Boston Marathon events.

Couretta leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Courey Mack Sirmans, Savannah, GA, his father, Keith Sirmans, seven sisters: Vernell (Al) Howard, Valdosta GA, Clementine Johnson, Killeen, TX, Sylvia D. (Harry L.) Hoggard, III, DeRidder, LA, Veronica (Kelvin) Higgins, El Paso, TX, Jeannette Johnson, Richmond, VA, Julia Johnson, DeRidder, LA, Eurica Johnson, Fresno, TX; three brothers: Marvin Johnson, Albuquerque, NM, Evan (EC) Curtis, DeRidder, LA, Leonard “Turk” Johnson, DeRidder, LA; a special DEVOTED niece, Tausha Terrell West, Stone Mountain, GA, and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Old Cypress cemetery in Rosepine, LA. Pastor Keith Stevenson will officiate.

Ray Edward Trunick

Ray Edward Trunick, 75, of Lake Charles, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

Mr. Ray retired from the United States Army after serving his country for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Theodore “Ted” Trunick and wife Kimberley of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren: Nicholas, Hannah, Domenic Skinner, Grayson Trunick, and Dr. Madison Saunders; great grandchildren, Molly and Zoey Skinner and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death are his wife of 53 years, Patricia Trunick; daughter, Trishia Skinner; granddaughter, Chelsea Skinner; parents, Edward and Margaret Trunick.Visitation and funeral service will be held on January 18, 2018 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Father Jude Brunnert will officiate.

Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Central Louisiana Veterans cemetery in Leesville, LA.
