Jerry Don "JD" Ayres
June 26, 1962 - April 24, 2014
Jerry Don “JD” Ayers, 51, of Merryville, LA passed away on April 24, 2014 at his home after battling a long time illness. He was surrounded by family and friends. JD was born on June 26, 1962 in Shawnee, OK, the son of Marilyn Boland and Andy Yott. He was married to Deborah Ayers for 32 years with four beautiful children; Michael, Larry, Crystal and Nicole, with 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was loved dearly by many and will be Greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at the Merryville Community Center, 3024 Pine St. Merryville, LA, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm. The Community Center will be open all day to family and friends.

Cheryl Perkins
June 9, 1957, April 20, 2014
Cheryl Ann Perkins, 56, of DeQuincy, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at her residence. Cheryl was born on June 9, 1957 to Louis and Florence Perkins. She was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy. She became the first female police officer on the DeQuincy Police Force in the mid 1970’s. She later worked construction at the plants. She would always take care of people before herself. She was a very giving and loving person, always putting others need ahead of her own. She was a very loving sister, and aunt. She will be sorely missed by her loved ones and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories, 7 brothers, Roger Ashworth, Welburn “Rabit” Ashworth and wife Nancy, H.L. Perkins, Kenny, Larry, and William Perkins and wife Rhonda all of DeQuincy; Pat Perkins and wife Emily of Maryville, TN; 3 sisters, Betty Briggs and husband Jack of Palm Bay, FL, Sheila Fontenot and husband Keith of DeQuincy, and Patricia Hall and husband Tim of Westlake, LA; a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Florence Perkins; and brother, James Ashworth.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Thursday April 24, 2014 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at Oretta Pentecostal Church in Oretta, LA. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 2:00pm at Oretta Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Good Hope cemetery in Singer, LA. Rev. Samuel Ashworth and Rev. James Vandergriff will officiate.

Mandy Kirl
January 20, 1974 - March 27, 2014
Mandy Lynn Kirl, 40, of Chandler, TX, passed from this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014 in DeRidder, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Damien McBride; and daughter, Beverly McBride. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Claudia Fowler.

Sandra Trotti
July 21, 1945 - April 16, 2014
Sandra Trotti, 68, of DeQuincy, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Douglas Trotti of DeQuincy, LA; daughter, Gelena Trotti Statum and husband Larry of DeQuincy, LA; nephew, who they raised like a son, James Chaudoir of Cold Springs, TX; and sister, Loyce Weaver of Lake Charles, LA.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 1:00pm at Spikes cemetery in Bancroft, LA. Bro. Carlie Jackson, Bro. Roy Hoosier, and Bro. Jeremy Shields will officiate.

Billy Jack Young
April 3, 1934 - April 15, 2014
Billy Jack Young, 80, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his home. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Glenn Young and wife Pam of Merryville, LA; daughters, Shirley Spitzer and husband Kenny of Lumberton, TX, Donna McFatter of Kinder, LA, Bonnie Berry of DeRidder, LA, and Connie Sidbury of Lumberton, TX; 10 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Young.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 9:00am until 2:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral Services begin at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Bro. Roger Gill will officiate.

Margaret Krasso
August 26, 1932 - April 13, 2014
Margaret Krasso, of Merryville, LA, went to be with her heavenly father on April 13, 2014 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Richard Krasso, by her parents, R.O. and Ella Lewis, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her son, Bill Krasso of Bellville, Nebraska; daughters, Beth Cuevas and husband Paul of Merryville, LA, and Karen Vaughan and husband Barron of Dale, TX. She has 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Krasso was a member of Merryville First Baptist Church, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a lifetime member of Priscilla Chapter in Merryville. She worked as a bookkeeper, tax preparer, and a notary public for 60 years. She held the office of Mayor of Merryville for one term. She stayed civically active her entire life. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Lyndon Longoria will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer or Alzheimer.

Ocie Thompson
April 3, 1944 - April 13, 2014
Ocie Daniel Thompson 70, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on, Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Mr. Thompson was born April 3, 1944 in DeQuincy, LA. He served 4 years in the U.S. Army. He worked in Nuclear Plants in Virginia for many years. He loved wrestling and watching westerns.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 6 years, Terry Lane Mire Thompson of Merryville, LA; Mother, Nellie Thompson of DeQuincy, LA; Brothers, Jimmy Wayne Thompson of DeQuincy, LA, James K. Thompson of DeQuincy, LA, Elvis D. Thompson of DeQuincy, LA; Sisters, Carolyn Annette Rainwater & James of DeQuincy, LA, Jeannie Wood of DeQuincy, LA, Marsha Ann Perkins of DeQuincy, LA; Stepchildren, John, James, Tammy, and Linda Abshire; Step Grandchildren, April, Charles, Tommy, Regina, Howard, and Angel.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first Wife of 40 years, Judy Thompson, Dad, O.C. Thompson, Brothers, Troy Lynn Thompson, and Graylin Thompson; Step Grandchildren, Amber and Sava Abshire.

The family would like to thank Vickie Neeley and Jessie Edgerton the Hospice Nurses and the 2nd Floor Staff of Moss Regional Hospital for taking such wonderful care of Mr. Thompson during his illness.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 14, 2014 from 5:00-9:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 1:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at the Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA.

Mildred Ora Ruston, 86, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at her home. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John E. Ruston, Sr. of Merryville, LA; sons, David Earl Ruston and companion Mary Ann Flynn of Largo, FL, and John E. Ruston, Jr. and wife Sherry of Hammond, LA; daughters, Martha Spetz and husband Gary of Leesburg, VA, and Sandra Lynn Tidwell and husband Terry of Lafayette, LA;; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, John David Bass and Bertie Clyde Cain, and sister, Mers Mishoe.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm and Monday, April 14, 2014 from 8:00am until 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Quicksand Creek cemetery in Buckhorn, TX. Rev. Gerald Read will officiate. Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in the name of Mildred Ruston.

Jeff Brooks Jr.
May 21, 1944 - April 6, 2014
Jeff L. Brooks, Jr., 69, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his home. Jeff was born May 21, 1944 and raised in Lafayette, LA. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1962 and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana briefly before attending Pharmacy School at the Northeastern University in Monroe. After completing Pharmacy School, he joined the Navy serving active duty as a Hospital Corpsman then rejoining in the Navy Reserves for 27 years and retiring as a Master Chief. He was an avid gun collector, rarely missed a gun show either as a vendor or customer and reloaded ammo up until his death. He believed in the right to bare arms, serving God, his country, and his community and family. He enjoyed working as a pharmacist since 1967 and retired after about 42 years. His Civic and Community Activities included: Lifetime member of NRA, past member of The American Legion Beauregard Post NO. 27, past member of the Southwest LA Rifle & Pistol Club, Inc., Louisiana State Pharmaceutical Association, Louisiana Pharmacist Association, past member of DeRidder Downtown Merchants and DeRidder Chamber of Commerce, member of the East Beauregard Lions Club since 1978, currently a member of Unity Baptist Church, Charter member of Beauregard Parish Fire District 3.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 8 years, Rose Deraedt Brooks of DeRidder, LA; daughter, Joan Ava Brooks Landry (Jason) of Lafayette, LA; son James Beauman Brooks of Keithville, LA; grandchildren, Beau Foote of Lake Charles, LA, Jayme Brooks (Josh Landry) and Brandi Berard (Bud) also of New Iberia; great grandchild, Khloe Landry of New Iberia, LA; step-children of his spouse who became like children-Jennifer Johnson, Jeff (Trace) and Jonathan (Tina) Stortz and their children; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff L. Brooks, Sr., mother, Doye Noble Lanclos; step-father, Herbert P. Lanclos; and previous wife, Brenda Broussard Brooks.

Visitation and funeral service will be Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will be from 4:30pm until 6:00pm with funeral services beginning at 6:00pm. Bro. Roger Gill will officiate.

On Friday, April 11, 2014, there will be a visitation at Martin & Castille Funeral Home on St. Landry St. in Lafayette, LA, from 10:00am until 1:00pm. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm at Lafayette Memorial Park cemetery.

Jeremy Squyres
January 30, 1973 - April 5, 2014
Jeremy Wayne Squyres, 41, of Merryville, LA, passed from this life on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his home.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Rev. Wayne and Sharon Squyres of Merryville, LA; brother, Josh Squyres and wife Katlynn of DeRidder, LA; nephew, Joseph Wayne Squyres; niece, Hadleigh Elizabeth Squyres. He was preceded in death by his brother, Isaac Squyres.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 2:00pm at New Hope Baptist Church in Calcasieu, LA. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery in Calcasieu, LA. Rev. Wayne Squyres will officiate.
