Willie Mae Malone, 74, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Friday, March 29, 2013 in Lake Charles, LA. She was born January 20, 1939 in Iowa, LA to Edward and Grace Davis, both deceased. She moved to DeRidder, LA at an early age. She was a graduate of Carver High School and Grambling State University. Mrs. Malone retired from the Beauregard Parish School System. She was former owner of Malone Bar-B-Que, Ultra Mart Convenience Store and Grey Hound Station. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Beauregard Employee’s Credit Union, a member of the Beauregard Parish Library Board, President of Beauregard Parish Chapter Grambling Alumni Association, a member of Louisiana Workforce Commission, The American Cancer Society and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Arvin Malone; son, Arvane Malone; daughter, Courtney Spikes; sisters, Cora Riley of DeRidder, LA, Wanda Davis of Baton Rouge, LA and Frankie Johnson of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Malcolm Davis and Alvin Davis, both of DeRidder, LA; granddaughters, Stephanie Malone of Austin, TX, Sterling Childs of Lake Charles, LA, Jahirah Spikes of DeRidder, LA; grandson, Jah’aire Alexander and great grandson, Jean-Luke Ayala and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and god-children.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA from 6:00pm until 8:30pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1:00pm, with a rosary at 12:30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Father Jude Brunnert will officiate.

Beverly Ann Smith Knowles

Beverly Knowles, 78 of Morrilton, Arkansas passed from this life on Friday, March 15, 2013 in Little Rock, AR. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harlan Knowles of Morrilton, AR; sons, Kenneth Knowles of Midland, TX and Ben Knowles of Morrilton, AR; daughters, Debbie Putt and husband Chuck of Columbus, MS; brother, Dr. James Smith and wife Betty of Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marguerite Smith and granddaughter, Staci Putt.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral service is Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10:00am also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Beauregard cemetery in DeRidder. Rev. Jeff Smith will officiate.

Dorothy Chapman

Dorothy Chapman, 74, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Friday, March 15, 2013 in Rosepine, LA. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen Garzon, Charles Clark, Danny Clark, Billy Clark and Richard Clark, Jr. all of DeRidder, LA and Ricky Clark of Merryville, LA; sisters, Patsy Smith of Rosepine, LA and Elaine Enlow of Fort Worth, TX; husband, Louis Chapman of Woodville, TX; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, step-mother, 1 brother and 4 sisters.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 5pm until 10pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:00pm also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lewis cemetery in DeRidder.

Kenneth Ray Johnson
July 31, 1951 - March 13, 2013

Kenneth Johnson, 61, of DeRidder, LA, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Alexandria, LA. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Zerlene Johnson of DeRidder, LA; brothers, Gary Johnson of DeRidder, LA, John W. Johnson of Bossier City, LA and Julius Johnson of DeRidder, LA; sister, Drenda Johnson Andrews and husband Oliver of DeFuniak Springs, FL; nephews, Anthony, Finis, Christopher and Joshua; aunt, Myrtle Wilkerson of Houston, TX and uncle, BookerT. Johnson of Washington State. He was preceded in death by his father, Finis Johnson, Sr. and brother, Finis Johnson, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00pm also at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Old Cypress cemetery in DeRidder, LA. Pastor Maurice Bynum will officiate.

Peggy "Aileen" Hickman

Peggy “Aileen” Hickman, 81, of DeRidder, LA passed from this life on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Garland Ray Hickman of DeRidder, LA; son, Garland Jr. & Wife Angelena of DeRidder, LA; daughter in law, Karin Hickman of DeRidder, LA; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marzelle Rice of Glenmora, LA, Maxine Slaydon of Bridge City, TX, Linda Weatherby of Montana, Lou Slaydon of Singer, LA; brother, Iutress Cooley of Merryville, LA; Caregiver of 2 ½ years, Ms. Daphne Leach. Mrs. Hickman was preceded in death by her son, Larry Hickman; sisters, Eulene Dickerson and Faye Perry; brother, Earl Cooley. Visitation will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 from 5-9PM at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Vera Mae Johnson

Vera Mae Johnson, 83, of Starks, LA passed from this life on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Johnson worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board for over 20 years. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Edward Gene Johnson and wife Chris of Starks, LA; daughters, Betty Statum and husband Jerry of Starks, LA, Ruby “PeeWee” Martinez and husband Raymond of Starks, LA, Janice Funk and husband Roy of Vinton, LA and Patricia Peveto and husband Allen of Deweyville, TX; brother, Nathan Hyatt and wife Patsy of Starks, LA; sisters, Ninna Simon of Starks, LA, Marie Johnson and husband C.J. of Starks, LA and Evelyn DeGelormo and husband Bobby of Starks, LA; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William Edward Johnson; daughter, Wanda Wilson; parents, Nathaniel and Ruby Hyatt and several brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank family, church family and friends for their prayers and food, and would like to thank Heart for Hospice Lake Charles for their care and kindness.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks, LA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:00pm at Calvary Apostolic Church. Burial will follow at Fountain cemetery in Starks. Bro. Jeremy Shields will officiate.

William "Bill" Womack

William “Bill” Womack, 83, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born March 21, 1929 in Cottonwood, AL. Bill married Jackie Myers on September 7, 1952. He served his country during the Korean War. He was an avid sports fan, loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Merryville First Baptist Church. He retired from Rice Land Lumber Co. of Rice University in 1993. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jackie Womack; son, Michael Womack of Houston, TX; daughter, Cathy Nichols of Elkins, AR; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Hall of Cottonwood, AL; brothers, John Womack of Montgomery, AL and Tommy Womack of Cottonwood, AL and his pet and companion, french bulldog, Jazz. He was preceded in death by his sons, Freddie Womack and Keith Womack; parents, Lewis and Reatha Womack; brothers, Bobbie, Don and Rex Womack; sister, Carolyn Meadows. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 4pm until 9pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 10:00am at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Burial will follow at Merryville cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Lyndon Longoria will officiate.

Siphronia "Fronie" Jeane
July 21, 1922 - March 7, 2013

Siphronia “Fronie” Opal Robinson Jeane was born on July 21, 1922 in Glenmora, LA to Ben and Altha Padgett Robinson and was raised in Hineston, LA. A product of the Great Depression, she worked in cotton fields and helped take care of her siblings. She grew up in a singing family and sang alto at home and at Lone Star Baptist Church. She later met and married David Ernest Jeane, the love of her life. They moved to Slagle, LA where she raised her family. Music was a major part of their family as they sang all across central Louisiana. Siphronia was a longtime member of Flactor Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She loved to cook and decorate wedding cakes. Everyone loved her nurturing spirit and contagious laugh.

Preceding her in death was her husband , Ernest Jeane, Son, Jerel Jeane, Son-in-law, Ed Owers, infant granddaughter, parents, four brothers and 1 sister.

Survivors are her daughter Wanda Owers of Slagle; four sons and daughters-in-law Anthony and Janet Jeane of Slagle, LA, Glen and Nelda Jeane of Pineville, LA, Jerry and Pam Jeane of Anacoco, LA, and Gary and Nancy Jeane of McDonough, GA, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Services will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Flactor Baptist Church in Hicks, LA with Rev. E.J. Bradshaw and Rev. Huey Haymon officiating. Burial will follow in Flactor cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday, March 9, at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Flactor Baptist Church. Donations may be made in memory of Fronie to Flactor Baptist Church or Gideons International. Funeral services are under the direction of Jerry Jeane and Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA.

Delmier Burks
August 18, 1921 - March 3, 2013
Delmier Burks, 91, of Merryville, LA passed from this life on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Rosepine, LA. Mr. Burks served in the United States Army for 4 years, where he received The Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. He worked for many years at LCIS as a guard. He retired from civil service in the Transportation Dept. at Fort Polk after 26 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Martha Roberts and husband Gary F. of Merryville, LA; son, Steven Dale Burks of San Antonio, TX; sister, Lena Robberson of Merryville, LA; grandchildren, Barrett Paul Roberts of Allen, TX, Christopher John Roberts and wife Rebecca of Murphy, TX and Summer Roberts Bishop and husband Kenny of Rockwall, TX; great-grandchildren, Bryson Paul Roberts, Brooklyn Richelle Roberts, Shelby Ann Bishop and Mason Christopher Roberts; dearest friend, Peggy Green and her daughters, Debbie and Terry; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Coslet Burks; brothers, Acie and Archie Burks; sisters, Vera Jean Coburn, Betty Ruth McDaniel, Inez Lanier and Goldie Travis.The family would like to thank the staff, residents and their families, of Rosepine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. Burial will follow at Meadows cemetery in Merryville, LA. Bro. Wayne Squyres will officiate.
