She was a member of Haynesville United Methodist Church and the Gleaners’ Sunday school class, both of which she held dear. A devout Christian, she cherished the worship, prayers, and friendships that she shared with her church family.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who spent her life building a happy, godly home for her family. Her gentleness, kindness, and sweet spirit prevailed in her home as well as in all areas of her life. She was truly a “Southern lady.” She loved cooking-especially baking-and was known for making her delicious pies, cakes, and cookies for her family and friends. She loved being at home and was able to reside there until the last month of her life with the help of her "second family"--wonderful friends and caregivers Dolline Mayfield, Catherine Harden, Ruth Glascock, Jennifer Dowling, Kim Brownmiller, Debbie Dendy, and Ann Walker-and the superior care of her longtime physician, Dr. Samuel Abshire.

Mrs. Bond saw many changes in the world during her lifetime-actually living from the horse and buggy days to the space age. She was a learner and a problem-solver. She read the newspaper daily and clipped articles that pertained to their fields of study to send to her grandchildren in college. She enjoyed football-especially watching LSU, Louisiana Tech, the Haynesville Golden Tornadoes, and professional quarterbacks who hailed from Louisiana. As a high school student, it was she who suggested the name “Golden Tornado” when Haynesville High School chose the name for its mascot. She enjoyed watching and talking sports with her sons-in-law, grandsons, and other family members. She especially delighted in the activities of her young grandchildren and retelling cute stories about things they had said or done. She was so proud of her family and looked forward to their visits.

Visitation for Mrs. Bond will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Haynesville.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Haynesville United Methodist Church with the Rev. David J. Sheehan officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
