John Thomas Roberts, 70, Kentwood; died April 9; graveside service, Saturday, Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood.

Dorothy Robinson Selby

NEW IBERIA — Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Riley Halstead Selby, Jr., the former Dorothy Steckler Robinson, age 82, at 4:00 pm Saturday April 15, 2006 at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with rev. Mark McDonald officiating. interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at church from 3:00 pm until service time.

Mrs. Selby was a native of Cade and resident of Houston, TX. She Passed away at 6:00 pm on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at Mariner Health of Cypresswood.

Mrs. Selby was a former member of Louisiana Library Association, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, St. Martin Association of Retired Teachers, Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Iota, and Blue Blue Violet. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in New Iberia and served on the Altar Guild, The Guild, and as a Lay reader.

She is survived by her son, John Stephen Selby and his wife Margaret of Houston, TX; sister, Maude Eastcott R. Gutekunst of St. Martinville; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Katherine; her husband’s son, Dr. Riley H. Selby, III and his daughters, Anna and Cassandra all of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Riley Halstead Selby, Jr.; daughter, Barbara Jean Selby; and parents, George Albert and Maude Judice Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin Parish Library; Iberia Parish Library; American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA), 135 Parkinson Ave., State Island, NY 10305, www.apdaparkinson.org; or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF), 1859 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, www.pdf.org.

Evangeline Funeral Homes Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Ann Mitchell

Gloria Ann Mitchell, 67, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center. She was a housewife.

Survivors include her father, Herman Breaux of Reserve; two daughters, Vanessa Brister and Irma Weber, both of Hammond; four sons, Eddie Breaux and Ringo Mitchell, both of Independence; Ray Dell Mitchell and Ringo Mitchell Jr., both of Hammond; two sisters, Bessie Mae Brown of Metairie and Marion Perrilloux of Reserve; three brothers, Raymond Breaux of Garyville, Harold Lee Breaux and Clarence Breaux of LaPlace; and 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Wilbert Mitchell Jr.; and her mother, Julia Mitchell, preceded her in death.

The Rev. Samuel Brown will conduct the funeral Friday at 7 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond.

Lyddie Smith Price

Lyddie Smith Price, 65 years old of Hammond, La., died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center.

She was born May 31, 1940 in Brookhaven, Miss., daughter of the late Marshall Smith Sr. and Willie Mae Levy Smith of Hammond, La.

Surviving are her children, five daughters, Cassandra (Brian) Johnson , Gwen Bagnet, Robin Glasper, Demetra Wright and Joette Price, all of Hammond, La.; four sons, Kenneth (Gretchen) Glasper of Baton Rouge, La., Howard Glasper III, Derrick Price, both of Hammond, and James Price (Candice) of Jonesboro, Ga.; one sister, Bobby Carter of Ponchatoula, La.; two brothers, George Smith (Shirley) of Ponchatoula, La.; and Marshall Smith Jr. (Evelyn) of LaPlace, La.; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Willie Mae Smith; two brothers, Charles and Ross Smith Sr.

Friends will be received Friday, March 17, 2006, at Richardson Funeral Home in Hammond, La., from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the Greater St. James AME Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Lloyd Washington officiating.

interment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery.

Phoenix O. Square

Phoenix O. Square, 69, died March 11 at his home.

He was a retired postal worker, barber and U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Williams Square; his mother, Marjorie V. Square; one daughter, Kathy Yvette Square of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Eric (Kimberly) Square of Fontana, Calif.; Reginald Square of Los Angeles; one step son, Gerald Frazier of Los Angeles; six sisters, Arrealia S. White of Hammond, Marjorie L. Square of Bloomington, Minn.; Fayette R. and Chyrell J. Square, both of Hammond, Brenda J. Smith of St. Paul, Minn.; and Lettie D. Square of Atlanta, Ga.; and three brothers, James D. Square (Earlene) Hammond, Lawrence E. Square of Hammond, and Issac L. Square (Jean) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

His father, Phoenix Square, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be today at Greenfield Missionary Baptist Church, Hammond, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Hanible will conduct the funeral Friday at 1 p.m., and burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.

Joseph Angelo Valenti

Joseph Angelo "Jo Jo" "Jose" Valenti, a 57 year old automobile mechanic of Hammond, Louisiana , died Sunday, March 12, 2006 in North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born Tuesday, February 8, 1949 in Hammond, Louisiana , son of Catherine Monistere and the late Salvadore Pete Valenti.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Cavalier; 2 sons, Joseph S. "Jo Jo" Valenti and Clint P. Valenti; daughter, Danielle G. Valenti; 3 sisters, Cecile Nye, Katie Nye, and Annie Dufour of all of St. Bernard, LA; 2 brothers, Tony Valenti of Hammond, LA, and Pete Valenti of Ponchatoula, LA; and beloved pet, "Duke."

He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and Sammy Valenti.

Friends will be received Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, Louisiana .

Services will be held at Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chuck Constant officiating.

interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana 70401.

Iva Ard

Iva Ard left this world on Friday, March 17, 2006. Born on February 14, 1911, she was truly a special Valentine to all who knew her. She was 95 years old and a native of Abita Springs.

Iva lived her life to the fullest. Her family and friends will miss her laughter, her smile and her giving spirit. She leaves this world with a true example of Christian life.

Her mothering spirit and unconditional love will always be with everyone who was a part of her life. She was wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

The 2002 Old Farmers Day was dedicated to Iva Ard. She loved to quilt and crochet. Many referred to her as the "Quilt Lady." Iva leaves us her strength, her spirit and her unselfish love.

She is survived by a daughter, Dolores Ard Smith, and son-in-law, Emmett Smith Jr. of Baton Rouge; a son Harold Ard of Independence and a dedicated friend, Shirley Hingle of Franklinton.

She has 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Ard; son, Alfred "PO" Ard; and infant daughter, Oneida Ard; grandson Corey Saragusa; four brothers and five sisters.

She is a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. Pallbearers are Bard Smith, Nicky Vaccaro, Joe Saragusa, Willard Ard, Jules Walder Jr. and Russell Goudeau.

Visitation at Geisler Funeral Home in Hammond on Sunday from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Monday after 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Loranger Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Oaks Hospice.

Leroy Toulouse

Leroy Toulouse Sr., 57, native of New Roads, La., died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville, La. He was an employee of Sanderson Farm, in Hammond, La. He was a member of Zion Hill Christian Church in Boothville, La.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Taylor Toulouse; two sons, Leroy Jr. (LaChedra) and Lamar (Cassandra) Toulouse; one godson, Randolph (Randy) Duncan; and one goddaughter: Comella Williams, all of Boothville, La. ; three sisters, Emma T. Celestine, New Roads, La., Myrtle T. Williams, Baton Rouge, La., Maybell Taylor , Algiers, La.; five brothers, Elton (Myrtle) Toulouse,

Sunrise, La., Charlie ( Joycelyn ) Toulouse Jr., Laplace, La., Dan (Lucille) and Joseph (Xexiedea) Toulouse, San Diego, California, and John Toulouse, Ennis, La.; and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Cora Jones Toulouse; one godson, Alphonse Claude Mackey Jr.; one grandson, Traillion Ragas; four sisters, Yvonne T. Brown, Cora Lee Toulouse, Lucille Jones and Camilla Gauthier Albert; one brother, Selton (King) Toulouse.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 19, 2006, 5 to 7 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite. Funeral: Monday, 7 p.m. at Second Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, La. Dismissal will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Samuel Crum with burial at St. Paul Methodist Church Cemetery, New Roads, La. Richardson Funeral Home, Amite in charge.

Eddie Washington Kinchin Jr.

Eddie Washington Kinchin Jr., 72 years old of Hammond, La., died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born January 9, 1934.

He is a retired Army veteran, who served 20 years in the United States Army and was directly involved in the Korean and Vietnam War. While in the Army he was awarded two Army Commendation Medals, a Bronze Star, Air Medal and a Purple Heart when he was wounded during the Vietnam War.

He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor's of arts degree on December 7, 1982.

He was directly involved with the community and was president of the Northlake Community Development Corporation from September 2000 through December 2004.

He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.
