JAMES ERNEST MILTON

KENTWOOD -- James Earnest Milton, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

He was an employee of Tracer Armed Security. He was a retired manager of Dairy Farmers Trucking, a retired dairy farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, a member of Knights of Pythias Kentwood Lodge No. 160, a past post commander of Alcy G. Gill American Legion Post No. 187 of Kentwood and a member of the Spring Creek Masonic Lodge No. 184, F&AM.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Y. Milton ; one daughter, Stacey Milton; sons, Marlon, Doug and Kenneth Milton; sister, Dorothy M. Blades; brother, Willie Karl Milton; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Venus G. and Emmitt Jesse "E.J." Milton Sr.; and one brother, Emmitt J. "June" Milton Jr.

Visitation will be at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday at Spring Creek Baptist Church, from 9 a.m. until the Rev. Danny R. Smith conducts the funeral at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Spring Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Spring Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

RALPH ROBINSON JR.

Ralph Robinson Jr., 101, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home.

He was a native of Head of Island.

He is survived by his wife, Neomia Robinson; two daughters, Diane and Geraldine Robinson; one son, Charles Robinson; and 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today at at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Hammond, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Morris Payne will conduct the funeral Friday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.

N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

FLORETHA B. SMITH

INDEPENDENCE Floretha B. Smith, 66, a housewife, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004.

She was a member of Mount Teamer Baptist Church of Independence.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy James and Mary Smith, both of Independence; one son, Oliver Smith of Independence; three sisters, Elouise Doty and Mary Jane Lewis of Independence, and Ledonia Brown of New Orleans; one brother, David Brown of Independence; and seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mosie Brown; one daughter, Debra Smith; and one brother, Johnnie Brown.

Visitation will be today at Angelic Funeral Home, Roseland, from 1 to 5 p.m. The Rev. Melvin Baker will conduct the funeral tonight at 7 at Mount Teamer Baptist Church, Independence.

Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery, Independence.

JOHNNIE FINLEY BARNES

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Johnnie Finley Barnes, 61, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

Born in Hammond to Oscar and Velma Finley, she became a member with Faith Deliverance Family Worship Center COGIC upon making her home in Kansas City where she was a member of the senior choir, calling team, prison ministry, hospitality vice president, mother board, intercessory prayer team, Sunday school and a missionary.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce M. Finley of Ponchatoula; two sons, James Smith Jr. and Shelby Smith of both of Kansas City; three sisters, Marie Morrison, Mary Brumfield, Julia Route, and two brothers, Ike Finley and Oscar Finley, all of Hammond; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her parents, one daughter, Janice M. Smith; two sisters and five brothers, preceded her in death.

Funeral Services were held Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Faith Deliverance Family Worship Center COGIC, Kansas City. The Rev. Harold L. Johnson Jr. was in charge.

Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels, Kansas City, was in charge.

TERRY LEE GARRETT

FOLSOM -- Terry Lee Garrett, 36, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at St. Tammany Hospital, Covington.

A native of Benton Harbor, Mich., he is survived by his wife, Kim Darby of Madisonville; one daughter, Terrilyn Garrett of Madisonville; two sons, Jonah Garrett and Terry Lee Garrett Jr., both of Covington; one brother, Larry L. Garrett of Jackson ville, Fla.; and his mother, Mae Helen Cole of Folsom.

Visitation will be Saturday at Midway Holiness Church from 10 until the Rev. Leroy Divinity Jr. conducts the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Hay Hollow Cemetery, Folsom.

Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

STANLEY BURNES HOYT

LEE'S LANDING -- Stanley Burnes Hoyt, 42, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at his home.

Survivors include one son, Stanley Hoyt Jr. of Gulfport, Miss.; his mother, Annie Effler Hoyt of Lee's Landing; two sisters, Evelyn Dillard of Magnolia Miss., and Winnie Hoyt of Lee's Landing; and two brothers, Delmas Hoyt of Ponchatoula and Arnold Hoyt of Lee's Landing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burnes Hoyt; and one brother, Kelvin Hoyt.

Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday from 8 until the funeral at 10 a.m. The Rev. James Ray Robertson will officiate.

Burial will be at Ponchatoula Cemetery.

JEROME DEONDRE MUSHATT

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jerome "Dre" Deondre Mushatt, 23, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004.

Survivors include his parents, Dan and Octavia Mushatt; brothers, Kevin Mushatt, Lee Mushatt, Dan Mushatt Jr., Daunte Mushatt, Darnell Mushatt and Tyrone Hutchinson; sisters, Barbara Blackmon, Barbara Davis, Gloria Mushatt and Christine Truitt; and his grandparents, Minnie Miles and Thomas and Mattie Hutchinson, both of Springfield.

The Rev. Wilbard Jones conducted the dismissal services today at MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home, Denham Springs.

Burial was a Galilee Church Cemetery, Springfield.

SYLVIA COURTNEY POWELL

HOLDEN -- Sylvia Courtney Powell, 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, R.V. Powell of Holden; one daughter, Brenda Cox of Walker; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Norma Coleman and Margaret Stewart, both of Holden, Carolyn Hickman of Collins, Miss., and Linda Jenkins of Philadelphia, Miss.; and one brother, Leslie Courtney Jr. of Philadelphia, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Sr. and Mabel Smith Courtney; and one son, R.V. "Rick" Powell Jr.

Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday at First United Pentecostal Church, Albany, from 10 a.m. until the Rev. Gerald Arceneaux conducts the funeral at 2 p.m.

Burial will be at Courtney Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday at Richardson's Funeral Home, Hammond, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. followed by burial at St. James AME Methodist Church Cemetery, Hammond.

DOROTHY MARIE CALLIHAN TARVER

AMITE -- Dorothy Marie Callihan Tarver, 77, died on Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Hammond Nursing Home.

Tarver, a homemaker, was a native of Greensburg and a resident of Amite.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Ann Kuebler of Loranger and Georgia Canale of Hammond; three sons, Louis and Mitchell Tarver of Amite, and Randy Tarver of Gulfport; a sister, Ruby Nell Letard of Hammond; a brother, William Callihan of Kentwood; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Staff Sgt. George E. Tarver; her mother, Hazel Carter; her father, Percy Callihan; her stepfather, Roy Carter, and an infant brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or the North Oaks Hospice.

Visitation will be Monday, at the Church of the Incarnation, in Amite, from 10 a.m. until the religious services at 2 p.m.

Religious services will be conducted by the Rev. Don Campbell, and burial is to follow in Amite Memorial Gardens.

McKneely Funeral Home in Amite is in charge of arrangements.

EDDIE JAMES DRIGGERS

LORANGER -- Eddie James Driggers, 22, was killed in a car accident on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005.

Riggers, a resident of Loranger, died at the scene of the accident on state Hwy. 40.

Survivors include his father, Donald Ray Vicknair Sr. and his mother, Robbie Anthony Vicknair, both of Loranger; four brothers, Donald Ray Vicknair Jr., of Covington, Lemuel Wade Driggers of Alexandria, Shane Ryan Driggers of Oklahoma , and Gary Michael Vicknair of Tennessee; two sisters, Stephanie Lynn Mercante of Oklahoma and Amanda Ray Vicknair of Loranger; his maternal grandmother, Judith Marie Rundell of Tickfaw; his paternal grandfather, Jacob L. Vicknair Sr. of Independence.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edward Lafayette Rundell and his paternal grandmother, JoAnn Vicknair.

Visitation will be Monday, at Geisler Funeral Home in Hammond, from 9 a.m. until the service time at noon.

Burial will follow in Reed-Raines Cemetery in Uneedus.
