BENTON, LA - Aubrey D. Patton died Thursday, April 26, 2001. Memorial services will be held in Monroe, LA at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. He was a resident of Benton for twelve years.

Beatrice Pratt

UNION CO. ARKANSAS, EL DORADO - Funeral services for Beatrice Pratt, of El Dorado will be Monday, April 30, 3001 at 10 a.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery by Bailey Funeral Home, El Dorado.

Mrs. Pratt is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Mary Black Henderson, her husband, Gene Pratt, two sisters, Eolian Lowery and Nettie Brazell and one brother Guy Henderson.

She is survived by two sons: Henry Pratt of Haynesville, LA and Jimmy Pratt of Bossier City, LA, one daughter, Jean Gillespie of Lewisville, TX, one sister, Bessie Mason of El Dorado, and nine grandchildren sixteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City, AR from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.

Bobbie Jean Durbin

HAUGHTON, LA - Bobbie Jean Durbin of Haughton Passed away at Grace Home in Shreveport Friday, April 27, after a lengthy illness. She was born July 11, 1928, in Bienville Parish.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 Sunday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel on First Street in Arcadia. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday officiated by Reverend Steve Kelley. Burial will follow at Camp Ground Cemetery in Bienville.

Mrs. "D." was a seamstress since 1975 for Steadman's Sports Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Durbin and daughter Peggy, and a brother Ben Collinsworth. She is survived by two sons: Buddy and his wife Suzan and their children Shawn, Chris and Patrick; Ricky and wife Laura and their children Randy, Amanda and Danielle; three daughters: Rhonda McRae, Beth Durbin and Vicky Pitts and husband Bob and their children Karen, Holley, Kelley and Katherine; numerous nieces and nephews and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Steadman and his loyal employees.

Charles E. Peters

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Charles E. Peters, 77, will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2001 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, with a prayer vigil beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will follow after the vigil until 8 p.m.

Charles Passed away April 27, 2001 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a lengthy illness and he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Viva B. Peters.

He is survived by four daughters, Karen Nash and husband Gil of Rockwall, TX, Kathy Skok and husband Bill of Bellevue, Washington , Kayleen Cointepas and husband John of Oklahoma City, OK and Kim Brabham and husband Russell of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Logan and Graham Nash, Charlie and William Skok, Ashley and Erika Smith and Helen Roux and Claire Brabham; great grandchildren, Ashtin Smith and Hannah Tuggle.

Pallbearers will be Gil and Graham Nash, Bill Skok, John Cointepas, Lynk Carpenter and Brad Nash.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Earl M. Eschenfelder

GREELY, COLORADO - Services for Earl Michael Eschenfelder will be held at 10 a.m. at Cathedral of St. John Birchman's on Tuesday, May 1, 2001. Officiating will be Rev. Curtis Woods , Rector for the Cathedral. interment will follow at Forest Park West. Visitation will be held Monday, April 30, 2001 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wellman Funeral Home with a vigil service at 6 being officiated by Msgr. Caron Lacaze. There will be a mass said by Father John R. Welsh, S.J., on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 8 a.m. in Grand Coteau, LA.

Mr. Eschenfelder, 76, Passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2001. He was born in Shreveport on January 4, 1925. He was a graduate of Jesuit Prep School, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army having served during WWII in Normandy Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Recently he was awarded the Medal of Jubilee, presented by France for his support in their liberation.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma and son, Robert.

Mr. Eschenfelder is survived by four sons, Vernon, Daniel, James and John, two daughters, Carol and Sherri, grandsons, Matthew and Korey, two granddaughters, Michelle and Shannon, brother, Clifford and wife, Mae Jean and special friend, Lucille Gaston.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Edd McDuffy, Jr.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Celebration services for Edd McDuffy, Jr. will be held in the Chapel of Good Samaritan Funeral Home on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 11 a.m. interment will follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Anthony Nelson officiating. Family hour will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001.

The death angel came during the early morning hours on April 25th and suddenly, without warning, Edd's life was taken away, leaving his wife, Elizabeth McDuffy; daughters, Sharon (Anthony) Nelson, Glenda McDuffy and Vickie (Michael) Price ; brothers and sisters, Willie "Sonny", James "Hal", Mary Alice, Arthur "Ray", Robert, Joe, Donald and Ronald, A.C., Bobbie, Lillie, Chester, and Cynthia; five grandchildren, Christy, Kenneth, Brandon, Kortlan, Kalisha; one great grandchild, Layla; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Eddie McDuffy, and daughter, Wanda Kay McDuffy.

Maye Gentry "Tot" Bagwell

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services will be held for Maye Bagwell at Forest Park West on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 10 a.m., conducted by her grandson, Jerry Kennedy.

Mrs. Bagwell left this world behind and went to be with Jesus joyfully in the night. She was 89 years old.

She is survived by two daughters: Doris Irene Lewis, Carolyn Rose Tyler and one son-in-law, Warren Tyler, 12 grandchildren: Tim and Linda Lewis, Tina and Jerry Kennedy, Toni and Shelby Townsend, Ted Lewis, Teresa and Ron Austin, Chris and Michele Tyler and Janelle Tyler, seven great-grandchildren: Scott Townsend, Steven and Patricia Kennedy, Stephanie Kennedy, Matthew Rinaudo, Gentry Rinaudo, Elizabeth Lewis.

Mrs. Bagwell is now reunited with her loving husband, P. Henry Bagwell and will always be warmly remembered.

The sufferings of Life are not worthy to be compared with the glory which sall be revealed to us and in us and for us.

Helen M. Gouge

BENTON, LA - Mrs. Helen M. Gouge, 66, Passed away at Willis-Knighton, Bossier City on April 26, 2001 after a brief illness. Memorial services will begin on Sunday, April 29, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Benton at 3 p.m. Officiating the service will be Rev. Robert Beadle and Rev. Wayne Craig, both of First Baptist Church of Benton. interment will be held at a later date in Garner, Iowa.

Mrs. Gouge was a member of First Baptist Church of Benton. She was an active member of Gleaner's Sunday school class all of the daytime activities with other senior members of the church. Helen was a retired secretary from Allen Drug Co. in Orlando, FL. She and her husband Bill moved to Lead Hill, AR and built commercial buildings there. Then they moved to Benton to be closer to their daughter, Lorraine Ragsdale. After the move, Helen had a stroke in 1983. Her doctors did not give her long to live but being the "tough, out-spoken, tell it like it is" person she beat their odds and made it 17 1/2 years later. Helen was an avid lover of flowers. She loved to grow and give them to anyone she felt needed something to cheer them up. Mrs. Gouge was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Winnifred Asche, one sister Elizabeth Asche O'Rourke and a brother Bernard "Art" Asche. Surviving her are two daughters Lorraine Wood Ragsdale and husband Jack of Benton and Vicky Gouge Kael of Orlando, FL, grandchildren Joy E. Gibson and husband Michael of Benton, Kenneth Elmore, Jr. and Shane Elmore of Orlando, FL, brother Walter Asche and wife Catherine of Mason City, Iowa, six step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church of Benton Flower Fund.

The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Allen Cox who has treated Helen and Bill since 1984 and Dr. Mike Walton of the Willis-Knighton Cardiology Group.

Ossie Buie Pender

SHREVEPORT, LA - Ossie Buie Pender, 88, departed this earth for her heavenly home at 9:45 p.m., Thursday, April 26, 2001. Services will be at Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church of Shreveport at 1 p.m., Monday, April 30, 2001. Officiating was her pastor, Dr. Jon M. Stubblefield. interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park.

Visitation will be in the parlor of the church prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Ossie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ralph Louis Pender, Sr.; her father, Eula Monroe Buie; mother, Bessie Roberts Buie Simpkins and husband, Bill; brother, Clarence Monroe Buie; a step-daughter, Mable Pender Moody; step-son, Ralph L. Pender, Jr.; and a step-grandson, Ralph L. Pender, III.

She is survived by one sister, Sadie Rae Buie Ford of Mansfield, LA; two nieces and three nephews; a special great niece and nephew; and a step-son, P. Eugene Pender and wife, Lynelle of Marble Falls, TX; daughter-in-law, Eda Pender of Baton Rouge, LA; her caregivers, step-daughter, Mary Elizabeth Pender Kessler and husband, Alvin Bruce Kessler of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Elaine Pender Zilik, Louise (Jody) Jenkins, Al and Richard Pender, Toni Pender Lambert, Scott and Gary Pender, Barry, Richard and Scott Moody; numerous great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

Ossie loved life, loved her family, her home and all the outdoors. She and Ralph raised a large vegetable garden, a flower garden, fruit and pecan trees, fished and shared the bounty of each with family, friends and neighbors. She was a faithful and diligent worker in a number of occupations, but mostly in insurance. She was with the Montgomery Agency in Bossier City for nearly 20 years. The consummate caregiver, Ossie found it difficult to be the recipient of care. The last four years, she lived in an apartment at Glenview Gardens Retirement Community, where she kept busy as long as she could, checking on, visiting, working puzzles and spreading cheer among the residents. She suffered a lingering illness and died at Christus Schumpert Grace Home where she was less than a month.

Church was important to Ossie. She and Ralph helped build Koran Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport for 14 years. Sunday School friends were special and when she could no longer attend, the televising of our services was her lifeline to her church.

Pallbearers will be members of the Department 6 Coed Sunday School Class, Barry Box, Judge Tom Bundy, Al Cook, Larry Holbert, Jim Mabus, and Ivan Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be faithful friends, Dr. Robert and Mary Wilson, Dr. N.O. and Jo Pugh, Dr. Nick Davis, Dr. Charles and Geraldine Poole, and James and Inez Bolton, Elizabeth Murph and The Gleaner's Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, 543 Ockley Drive, Shreveport, LA 71106, Christus Schumpert Grace Home, 1035 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101 or to Glenview Gardens, 4828 Medical Drive, Bossier City, LA 71112.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001. Mrs. Spears was born October 27, 1905 in Coushatta, LA. She was resident of Bossier City most of her life. Mrs. Spears Passed away Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the Pilgrim Manor North in Bossier City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Spears Sr.; parents, Joe and Mary Leiendecker; brother, Joe A. Leiendecker; sister, Martha Waddell. Survivors include her son, Paul Spears, Jr. and wife, Ura of Bossier City, LA; four grandsons, Joe Spears and wife, Jeanette of Edmond, OK, Preston Spears and wife Brenda, Pat Spears and wife Elizabeth, both of Bossier City, LA and Phillip Spears and wife Loreace of Haughton, LA; great-grandsons, Joe Lee, Artie, Donny, Robby and Andrew; two great-granddaughters, Julie Shortt and Michelle Spears; great-great-grandchildren, Abbie and Joshua Spears; two nieces, Frances Pantalion West and Lola Waddell Mayo; nephew, Rep. SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Ada Mills Jeter will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral, 4720 Greenwood Rd. Bishop Larry L. Brandon, Jr. will be officiating. Family hour will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Winnfield Funeral Home.

Dollie departed this life on May 29, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bessie Hardy Mills, and one brother, Leo Mills.

Dollie leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, Leonard Jeter, John Jeter, Clyde Jeter, Roosevelt Jeter; four daughters, Gladys Watkins, Joyce Himes, Joanne Jeter, Shirley Hollins; and a host of relatives and friends.
