J.C. "BLACK" ROGERS

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 10 a.m., for J. C. "Black" Rogers, who Passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at his home on Saturday, August 18.

Mr. Rogers was a proud veteran of WWII and will be laid to rest with military honors.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the fuel distribution industry as a bulk fuel agent for Canal Refining Company. He was an avid sports enthusiast having participated as a boxer and football player at Abbeville High School where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2000 honored as one of Acadiana's top 100 athletes of the 20th Century.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. His golfing activities and his support of his children and grandchildren's sporting activities continued until his death.

Black is survived by his wife of 60 years, Effie Broussard Rogers. He is also survived by his sons, David Rogers and his wife, Lana, of Abbeville; Tommie Rogers and his wife, Janice, of Lafayette; Kelly Rogers and his wife, Jes-sie, of Abbeville; and his daughter, Mary Katherine Rogers of Abbeville. He is also survived by his sisters, Velta Firmin of Franklin and Jane Bohrer of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Leaving to also mourn Popoo's passing are his 10 grandchildren, Maria Phares, Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Erin Hebert, Lindsay Trahan, Kyla Rogers, Karla Rogers, Amy Rogers, Ryan Rogers and Phillip Rogers; and his four great grandchildren, Payton and Addison Phares, Stella Rogers and Hollyn Hebert.

In addition to his parents, Wilfred B. and Eliseman S. Rogers, his in-laws, Thartule and Theoza Broussard, and his sister, Flora Holt, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Jude Rogers.

Pallbearers will be Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Kern Meyers and Paul "Bubba" Trahan.

Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

The family requests that visitation be observed from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

PRISCILLA SANDERS

Priscilla R. Sanders, 51, a resident of Patterson and native of Ville Platte, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at 2:30 a.m., at Teche Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

She is survived by her spouse, Aristed "Joe" Sanders Sr. of Patterson; mother, Mrs. Matilda Edwards of Berwick; two sons, Walter Ray Colbert Jr. of Berwick and Jerome Colbert of Dallas, Texas ; two stepsons, Aristed Sanders Jr. of Patterson and Darrell Sanders of San Antonio, Texas ; two daughters, Kristin Colbert of Thibodaux and Aristine Sanders of Patterson; one stepdaughter, Pamela M. Sanders of Patterson; three brothers, Melvin Edward of Spring, Texas , Henry Edward of Morgan City and Michael Edwards of Berwick; three sisters, Barbara Porsche of Morgan City, Anita Bagwell of Patterson and Ophelia Green of Houma; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her father and five brothers.

Visitations will be observed Tuesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Funeral rites will be held Tuesday, at 7 p.m., at that church, with the Rev. Larry Frank officiating.

interment will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m., in the Berwick Cemetery.

The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA STANSBURY

Mrs. Emma Stansbury, 74, a resident of Thibodaux and native of Garden City, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at 7 a.m., at her residence following a short illness.

She is survived by one son, Michael Stansbury Sr. of Thibodaux; one daughter, Lois M. Stansbury of Franklin; two brothers, Anthony Joshua and Lionel Joshua, both of Houston, Texas ; five sisters, Gladys Perro, Shirley Shephers and Alma Jacko, all of Charenton, Irma Westley of New Orleans and Myrtle Randel of Houston; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitations will be observed Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the New Providence Baptist Church in Centerville.

Burial rites will be read Thursday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. Ronald C. Young will officiate. interment will follow in the New Providence Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

YWELL S. THOMAS

Ywell S. Thomas Sr. of Rayne died Monday, June 25, 2007 at age 85 at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Thomas, a native of Berwick, was born March 15, 1922.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Thomas; three children, Anne Moore of Franklin, Ywell Thomas Jr. and his wife, Cherry, of Bayou Black, and Sarah Thomas of Franklin; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thomas is also survived by one sister, Annette Bowman of Berwick; nephews, Tom Forgey of Berwick, David "Dave" Thomas, and his wife, Patsy, of Berwick, and Kenneth Thomas Jr. of Epps; nieces, Charlie Ann and her husband, Wayne Hughes of Berwick; Charlotte and her husband, Keith Bowers, of Houston, Texas and Connie Tyrone of Calico Rock, Arkansas.

Thomas was the son of Sarah (Luke) and David Thomas Sr. of Berwick. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ann Forgey of Berwick; and two brothers, Kenneth Thomas and David Thomas Jr. both of Berwick.

The family would like to thank the Franklin Home Health Services, Dr. McPherson and the staff at Franklin Foundation Hospital for their care and dedication.

Memorial services are pending.

ANNIE C. THOMAS

Annie Cusimano Thomas, born Sept. 15, 1918, Passed away in Texas on Wednesday, June 6, 2007.

She is survived by one son, Roland Thomas; two daughters, Ann Marie Turner and Susan Juricek; grandchildren, Emily, Ross and Roy Juricek and Kristin and Cole Thomas; great-grandson, Cameron Thomas; best friends, Sharonda Kemp and Cathy Keenan; and beloved mutt, Sweetie.

Services were held on Friday, June 8, at 10 a.m., at St. Mark Catholic Church in Plano, TX.

Service here in Franklin will consist of visitation at Ibert’s Mortuary on Sunday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A Graveside Service will be in the Franklin Cemetery at 11 a.m., with Father Benoit officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074, (972-424-4511) and Ibert’s Mortuary of Franklin.

CLAUDINE B. THOMAS

Mrs. Claudine Brown Thomas, 62, a resident of Bakertown and native of Bayou Sale, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at 4:06 a.m., at her residence following a short illness.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Roland Thomas Sr. of Bakertown; one son, Jimmy R. Thomas Jr. of New Iberia; three daughters, Renetta Orlette Washington of Gulfport, Mississippi, Raeschell LaVelle Franklin of Franklin and Alessia Thomas- Johnson of Cypress, Texas ; one brother, Barry Trent Brown of Bakertown; one sister, Barbara A. Thomas of Bakertown; and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Julia M. Brown and Isaac Brown Sr.; one son, Raylon Dewayne Brown; and two brothers, Stanley Brown and Isaac Brown Jr.

Visitations will be observed Friday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel in Franklin.

Burial rites will be read Friday, at 1 p.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. Wilson Ferguson Jr. will officiate. interment will follow in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

EVADA J. THOMAS

Funeral services were conducted Monday, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church for Mrs. Evada J. Thomas, 78, a native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette. Father Andreas Kedati, S.V.D. officiated. interment followed in the church cemetery.

She died Thursday, September 25, 2008 at St. Martinville Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.

She is survived by one son, Irwin (Crystal) Thomas of Jeanerette; five daughters, Joyce Thomas, Norma (Theopolis) Marks, Barbara Thomas, Brenda Thomas, Carla (Orson) Gibson, all of Jeanerette; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Thomas Jr., parents, Fredrick and Mary Elouise C. Johnson ; one sister, Yvonne J. Adams; and one grandson, Barry J. Thomas.

The Alex Lovett Funeral Services of Jeanerette were in charge of arrangements.

SHIRLEY M. THOMAS

Shirley Mae Thomas, 71, a native of Opelousas and a resident of Plaquemine, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Plaquemine Caring Center in Plaquemine at 8:31 p.m.

Visitation will be held at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin Saturday, October 30, from 9 a.m. until funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories two brothers, Deacon Clinton (Marion) Thomas of Franklin and Clifford (Doris) Thomas of Warren, Texas ; seven sisters, Mrs. E. J. (Eileen) Cormier of Breaux Bridge, Mrs. Charles (Mary Jane) Julian and Mrs. Eddie (Mary Ann) Willis, both of Houston, Texas , Mrs. James (Betty Jean) Moore of Baton Rouge, Joyce Ann Ogiliver of Franklin and Mary C. Gray of Allen, Texas and Veronica Carbon of Plano, Texas ; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JO ANNE V. TOUCHET

Mrs. Jo Anne Viguerie Touchet, 64, a lifelong resident of Charenton, died Monday, August 20, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.

The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday, August 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.

Visitation will resume Wednesday, August 22, at 9 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charenton until time of services.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charenton. Father William Crumley will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.

Mrs. Touchet is survived by her husband of 46 years, Howard Touchet of Charenton; her mother, Gladys Funk Viguerie of Charenton; one son, Derek James Touchet and his wife, Missi, of Franklin; three daughters, Melanie Faye Baudoin and her husband, Victor, of Charenton; Christina Maria Reyerson and her husband, Clayton, of Youngsville; and Felicia Anna Gary and her husband, Francis "Peanut" of Baldwin; one brother, Roland "Sonny" Viguerie Jr. of Charenton; three sisters, Gwen Leedom of Centerville, Cindy Rogers of Charenton and Connie Durocher of Charenton; nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Blaise, Rebecca, Chelsea, Matthan, Benjamin, Raven and Saige; as well as many numerous nieces and nephews.

Her father, Roland Raphael Viguerie Sr. preceded her in death.

Mrs. Touchet lived in various places around the world. She will be missed by all that knew her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice of Acadiana and the caretakers of Mrs. Touchet, including a special thanks to Ms. Sherry Carter and Ms. Leticia Chauvin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
