Phyllis Armstrong

Services for Phyllis Armstrong, the former Phyllis Bessard, 42, are pending.

A resident of Abbeville, Mrs. Bessard died on Saturday, July 19, 2003.

Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Rita D. Musemeche

Funeral services for Rita D. Musemeche, 77, will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Revs. Charles Langlois and Jude Halphen officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p. m. until 9 p.m. today with at 7 p.m. rosary, at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

A resident of New Iberia, Ms. Musemeche died at 9:17 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003, at her residence.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, having taught first grade for 30 years. She was the coordinator of High School Religion at St. Peter's Catholic Church for 40 years and was a Eucharist Minister.

Ms. Musemeche is survived by two sisters, Marie Musemeche and Theresa Musemeche, both of New Iberia; five cousins, Mary Watson Wyble of New Iberia, Lucille Jeffery of Lafayette, Twan Ray of Clermont, Fla., Angelina Jeffery Rooney of El Paso, Texas , and Woody Watson of Belle Chase.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Paul and Philomena Jeffery Musemeche; and two brothers, Paul Wilson Musemeche and Thomas Joseph Musemeche.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503-3240.

Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Joseph W. Burley

YOUNGSVILLE - Funeral services for Dr. Joseph W. Burley, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Louis Vu officiating. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at David Funeral Home, Youngsville Highway, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services.

Dr. Burley died at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003, after suffering a sudden illness. He died peacefully with his family at his side.

He was born at Burley Plantation in Youngsville, in southern Lafayette parish, on Oct. 25, 1931, the eighth of nine children, born to F.M. Burley Sr. and Regina Theriot Burley. He attended Youngsville High School, graduating in 1950. He then enrolled at SLI (UL Lafayette), where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC program, and earned a degree in Liberal Arts, majoring in Biology. He subsequently graduated from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Upon graduation from medical school, he completed an internship at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans and then returned to Lafayette completing a residency at Charity Hospital in 1959. He was a member of the Phi Chi Fraternity at LSU.

Dr. Burley begin practicing medicine in 1960 in Youngsville and continued there until retiring in 1998. His practice served many patients through all of the Acadiana area. He was also past Chief of Staff at Erath Memorial Hospital and served on the Board of Directors of the Morris Lahasky Nursing Home in Erath. He is fondly remembered for his personable manner and his ability to communicate with his patients in French.

He held memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, Louisiana State Medical Society and Lafayette Parish Medical Society. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6057, and a charter member of Bishop Maurice Schexnayder Assembly 4th degree, Lions Club, Woodmen of the World, and attended the Cursillo No. 3. A parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church, where he served on the finance committee and a past Eucharist minister, lector and usher.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Rose Marie Mouton; his seven children and their spouses, Jonathan and his wife Stephanie, Timothy, Scott and his wife, Kim, all of Youngsville, Briant and his wife, Lee, of Broussard, Patrick, of Lafayette, Shawn and his wife, Judy, of Watauga, Texas , and Leslie Burley Garofano, of Tampa; his sisters, Elgy Cargol of Seattle and Neva Alvarez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dudley J. Mouton Sr.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Dr. Burley was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cyrus, F.M. Jr., Charles and Merl Burley; two sisters, Helen B. Glaser and Annette B. Diaz; and one granddaughter, Lindsey Katherine Burley.

The Burley family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Lafayette General Medical Center for the wonderful care he was given, including Dr. Nagem, Dr. Feinberg, Dr. Valentino, Jill Karr RN, Jeremy Terro RN and Terry Gaspard RN.

Dr. Burley will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.

His request was that any memorial contributions be made in his name to St. Anne Catholic Church Building Fund.

His six sons will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marion, Bill and Ben Burley, Joseph Alvarez, Louis Betances, Gerald Freeman, Kent Langlinais, John O'Donnell, Merrill David, O.C. Guillot Jr., Lawrence Benoit, Wilton Larcade, Dr. Harry Smith, Dr. Wilton Bergeron, Dr. Merrick Wyble, Dr. Robert Trahan and Dr. Zerben Bienvenue.

David Funeral Home, Youngsville Highway, of Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.

Yoland Guilbeau

ABBEVILLE - Services for Yoland Guilbeau, 86, will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church. interment will be in the St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

A resident of Abbeville, Mrs. Guilbeau died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at her residence.

David Funeral Home of Abbeville is in charge of arrangements.

John Lusk Sr.

Services for John Harry Lusk Sr., 59, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Bullock officiating. interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services Monday.

Mr. Lusk died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2003, at Iberia Medical Center.

Mr. Lusk was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was employed with Dauterive Contractors, and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Guillotte Lusk of New Iberia; two sons, John Harry Lusk Jr. and Chad M. Lusk and his wife, Julianna, all of New Iberia; his mother, Mrs. Harry U. Lusk of New Iberia; two brothers, W.T. Lusk and his wife, Darnell, of Locust Grove, Va., and John T. LeMaire and his companion, Betty Shapely, of Houston; and two grandchildren, Lance M. Lusk and Johnathan Sundberg.

Mr. Lusk was preceded in death by his father, Harry U. Lusk; and his brother, Timothy A. Lusk.

Pallbearers will be John Lusk Jr., Chad M. Lusk, Johnathan Sundberg, Jordan Lassalle, Charles Moore and Dr. L.C. "Bud" Guilbeau.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aubry Dauterive, Allison Bourgeois, Dwight Crochet, Jody Wade, Larry Hitter, John LaBauve, Sidney Long and James Doucet.

Evangeline Funereral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Yvette B. Olivier

A friend to everyone

Services for Mrs. Ronnie G. Olivier, 51, the former Yvette "Betsy" Boudreaux, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Leblanc officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at David Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m., and will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Franklin and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Olivier died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Mrs. Olivier was co-owner of Acadian Janitorial Service and Louisiana Safety Consultants. She was an avid gardener and loved to read and watch movies.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie G. Oliver of New Iberia; her mother, Yvette Boudreaux Boudreaux; her son, Jason Olivier of Lafayette; her daughter, Monique "Neke" O. Vaughn of Lafayette; two grandsons, Hunter and Dylan Vaughn, both of Lafayette; and her sister, Paulette B. Mire and her husband, Lionel, of New Iberia.

Mrs. Olivier was preceded in death by her father, N.J. "Baby" Boudreaux; and her son, Shane Olivier.

Pallbearers will be William Hidalgo Jr., William Hidalgo Sr., Bryan and Shannon Leblanc, John Troendle and Michael Mire.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lionel Mire, Wayne Leblanc and Brian Hollier.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, Tenn.

David Funeral Home North on Trotter Street is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth P. Tauzin

Kenneth Paul Tauzin, 42, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, of natural causes.

He is survived by his daughter, Jillian Iris Tauzin of Lafayette; two brothers, Carl and Sully Tauzin, both of New Iberia; and his sister, Karen Tauzin Schwartz of Wyoming.

Mr. Tauzin was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Inez Tauzin; and his sister, Iris Tauzin Romero, all of New Iberia.

No funeral arrangements will be made.
