Sylvest Meyers

Funeral services will be held for Sylvest Meyers, 87, at 3 p.m. Saturday at David Funeral Home Chapel with the Deacon Ken Waguespack officiating. interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. today until the time of services Saturday with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. today.

A native of Patoutville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Meyers died at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at his residence.

He was employed as a laborer with Avery Island Salt Mine. He enjoyed dancing, gardening and bingo.

He is survived by two sons, Allen Meyers Sr. and his wife Sherald of New Iberia, and Alton Meyers and wife Judy of Delcambre; two daughters, Judy Derouen of New Iberia, and Diane Bonin and husband Steve of Catahoula; two brothers, Vernice Meyers of New Iberia and Segis Meyers of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Edith Latiolais of Cecilia and Ester Simoneaux of Franklin; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Segura Meyers; parents Amar and Evie Lancon Meyers; two brothers, Lennis and Wesley Meyers; sister, Jane M. Badeaux and son-in-law, Robert Derouen.

Pallbearers will be Allen Jr. and Jamie Meyers, Steven Bonin, Keith LeBlanc , Wilton Gary Jr. and Jeremy Hotard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Sr. and Alton Meyers.

David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street of New Iberia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn Mae Savoie

CATAHOULA - Funeral services will be held for Carolyn Mae Savoie, 57, at 2 p.m. today at St. Rita Catholic Church. interment will be in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.

Visitation began 4 p.m. Thursday at Dion Hall with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A resident of Catahoula, Mrs. Savoie died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Savoie of Catahoula; two sons, Dwayne and Shannon Savoie, both of Catahoula; one brother, Vincent Daigle of Jennings; one sister, Ruby Thibodeaux of Jennings and one grandson, Dakota Savoie of Catahoula.

Mrs. Savoie was preceded in death by her parents Addison and Rose Navarre Daigle.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of the arrangements.

Claude Rogers Jr.

HOUMA - Memorial services will be held for Dr. Claude Alex Rogers Jr., 77, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Maria Immaculata Church.

A native of Weeks Island and resident of Houma, Dr. Rogers died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

Dr. Rogers was a graduate of Franklin High School, Louisiana State University and Southern College of Optometry in Chicago.

He lived in Naples, Italy, and Greenwich Village, New York City, before making Houma his home. He practiced optometry with Dr. Harold Demmer.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and was in five battles in the Pacific in World War II.

Dr. Rogers was also a member of the Rotary Club, PTA, Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was an avid reader, traveler and enjoyed tennis.

He was also Catholic.

He is survived by his former wife, Joann Smith Rogers of Austin, Texas ; two sons, Claude Alex Rogers, III of Orlando, Fla., and David Grant Rogers of Atlanta; two daughters, Claudia Anne Rogers of Houma and Donna Elise Rogers Brandt of Austin; two sisters, Alice Rogers Fields of Houma and Elise Rogers Fuller of Lafayette; three grandchildren Mathew Rogers and Anna and Gabriel Brandt.

He was preceded in death by his parents Claude Alex Sr. and Annette Alleman Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 9405 Iterline Ave., Baton Rouge, La. 70809.

Dr. Rogers donated his body to the Louisiana State University Medical School.

Allen Bertrand, Sr.

A mass of Christian Burial for Allen John Bertrand, Sr., 65, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve LeBlanc officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. today with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service at Evangeline Funeral Home.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bertrand died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at his residence.

He was a veteran of the Navy and was employed with DelMar Offshore for 39 years. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports. He was a devoted father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by two daughters, Janice Bertrand Breaux and husband Philip of New Iberia and Leslie Bertrand Peltier and husband Sean of Lafayette; one son, Allen J. Bertrand Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Broussard; five grandchildren, Michael and Seth Breaux, Brianna Bertrand, Jonah Peltier and Abby Childress; three brothers, Alton Bertrand Sr. of Kaplan, Emile Bertrand of New Iberia and Cecile Bertrand of Westlake; and two sisters, Deola B. Storer of Wichita, Kan., and Agnes Royer of Crosby, Texas .

Mr. Bertrand was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Bertrand Sr. and Vivian Bouillion Bertrand; his son, Paul Anthony Bertrand; two brothers, George Sr. and Edward Bertrand and one sister, Sue Baker Whitaker.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Bertrand to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503 or to St. Jude's Childrens' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1942.

Evangeline Funeral Home of is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Moore Theriot

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services for Joyce Moore Theriot, 70, are today at 3:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday and 8 a.m. until the time of services today at David Funeral Home of Lafayette.

A resident of Broussard, Mrs. Moore died at 3:15 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center.

David Funeral Home, Youngsville Highway in Lafayette, is in charge of arrangements.

Elouise G. Fusilier

Funeral services for Elouise "Mother" Gardner Fusilier, 85, will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronell Cheatham officiating. The dismissal service and interment will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthews Cemetery.

A native of Loreauville, Mrs. Fusilier died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in New Iberia.

Mrs. Fusilier was born March 10, 1918, to the late Berdia Davis and Junius Gardner Sr. As a young woman, she met and married Alex Fusilier Sr. The union was blessed with eight children. Even though her education was limited, she was a woman full of wisdom. Because of that she was an adopted mother to those in the community. You were always welcome in her home and could always get a "good to the last bite meal."

Many years ago, having accepted Christ and being baptized, she was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later united with Star Temple Baptist Church until her passing. She always had a warm smile, a kind word and a giving spirit. Even through her lengthy illness, she did not complain and never got discouraged.

The family would like to say thank-you for the prayers, support and numerous expressions of love that you have extended to us. We are blessed to have each of you as a part of our lives. We cannot find the words to convey how you all have been a source of strength and encouragement. We shall forever cherish all that you have done for us. May God bless.

She is survived by eight children, Richard "Bobby" Fusilier of New Iberia, Harry "Bozo" Fusilier and his wife, Estelle, of Fort Worth, Texas , Alex "Mutt" Fusilier Jr. and Charles "Hardy" Fusilier, both of New Iberia, Arthur "Crus" Fusilier and his wife, Donna, of San Antonio, Texas , Dorothy "Mel" Lewis, Mary Ella "Queenie" Celetine and her husband, Henry Sr., and Mary Alice "Sutt" Robertson, all of New Iberia; five sisters, Louise Guidry, Irma Fusilier, Malvola Robertson, Lee Anna Syrie and Verna Gardner, all of New Iberia; 41 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 50 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and community friends too numerous to name who all collectively loved her dearly and will forever hold her close to their hearts.

Mrs. Fusilier was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, David, Junius Jr. and Ephraim Gardner; five sisters, Martha Victor, Gertrude Moore, Evola Kately, and Teresa and Bertha Gardner.

Pallbearers will be Arthur Fusilier Jr., Olajuwan and Horacio Fusilier, Charles Bourda Jr., Chris Marks and Charles Steed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marcel Fusilier, Travis Celestine, Carlos George, Junius George Jr., Carl Moore and Jimmy Lewis Jr.

Trent Davis and Jones Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Chris A. Broussard

BREAUX BRIDGE - A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Chris A. Broussard, 48. of St. Martinville. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at his residence. Chris had a passion for riding trail rides, and was a true cowboy.

Inurnment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery #1. The Rev. Allen Breaux will conduct the services.

Survivors include his parents Fulton Broussard Sr and Elise Patin Broussard both of St. Martinville, La.; his wife Lisa Patin Broussard of St. Martinville; four brothers, F.J. Broussard Jr. and wife Debbie of St. Martinville, Steven Broussard and wife Connie of Breaux Bridge, Kenneth Broussard and wife Joan of St. Martinville, and Robert Broussard and wife Terry of St. Martinville; and one sister, Annette Schouest and husband Leland of St. Martinville.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana at 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, la. 70503.

Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Amos Armstrong

Funeral services for Amos Armstrong, 75, are pending.

Mr. Armstrong died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Lafayette General Hospital following a brief illness.

Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
