Rogers
George Rogers, 89
Funeral services for George Ervin Rogers, 89, of Saline were held Jan. 24 at Magnolia Baptist Church with the Rev. Malcolm Self officiating and Bro. Stan Foster assisting. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Rogers died Jan. 21 at Winn Medical Center.

Born March 11, 1913, he was superintendent of Bienville Schools eight years before retirement. He was principal of Saline High School for 32 years, and president of the Bienville Parish Teachers Association and also of the North Louisiana Retired Superintendents Association. He served on the board of directors of the Bank of Saline. He was a member and deacon at Magnolia Baptist Church where he taught men’s Bible class for 57 years. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge # 196 in Ashland.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Geraldine Rogers of Saline; daughter Beth Rogers Howard and her husband, John, of Framingham, Mass.; son George Eugene Rogers and his wife, Barbara, of Waynesville, N.C.; son Wilfred Michael Rogers and his wife, Brenda, of Winnfield; brother Wilburn Eugene Rogers and his wife, Elizabeth, of Shreveport; sister Eolian Walker and her husband, Frank, of Ruston; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were George Cole, Bill Ellis, Rowina Mathews, Esten Payne and Leland Rhodes.

Pallbearers were the deacons of Magnolia Baptist Church and William Britt.Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

White
Belvin White , 76
Funeral services for Belvin D. White , 76, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 26 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Dark Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Sardis Cemetery.

Mr. White died Jan. 23 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston after a long illness.

He was a heavy equipment operator and served in World War II. Mr. White was preceded in death by a son, Roger White .

He is survived by wife Opal White of Jonesboro; son Ronnie Wayne White and wife Linda of Jonesboro; son David White of Powhatan; daughter Brenda Martinnez of Jonesboro; brother Lavell White of Jonesboro; sisters Edna Barton and Amma Deese, both of Winnfield; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Wiley
Susie Wiley, 91
Funeral services for Susie I. Wiley, 91, of Quitman were held Jan. 25 at St. Rest Baptist Church in Quitman. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

A homemaker, she died Jan. 20.Services were under the direction of King Funeral Home of Ruston.

Edmiston
William Edmiston, 91
Funeral services for William T. Edmiston, 91, of Ruston were held Jan. 15 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Staples officiating. Burial followed at Mount Zion in Vernon. Mr. Edmiston died Jan. 13 at Alpine Nursing Home after a long illness.He was a farmer.Mr. Edmiston was preceded in death by grandsons Travis Edmiston and B.J. Spillers.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bam Edmiston of Ruston; sons Jim Edmiston of Vernon and Lemoin Edmiston of Ruston; daughters Ethel Rinehart, Marjorie Otwell and Nancy Walker, all of Ruston, and daughters Rita Cockerham of Mount Olive and Rebecca McDaniel of Rogers, Ark.; sisters Sarah Jones, Barbara Atkins and Willie Mae Harris, all of Ruston; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Miller
Jerry Miller
Funeral services for Jerry W. “Pop” Miller of Deville were held Jan. 21 at Longview Baptist Church in Deville with the Revs. Lane Corley, Jerry Dark, Jr., Donald Lemmons and Mr. Chuck Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Jena Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died Jan. 19 at his residence, with his wife, children and other family at his side. He had been ill since July 2002 and fought bravely until the end. He was a graduate of Bolton High School, class of 1965. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and after being honorably discharged went on to a career in funeral service. He graduated from the Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston, Texas , in 1971. He has been a funeral director and embalmer with a number of funeral homes in central and north Louisiana . At the time of his death, he was an assistant manager with Hixson Brothers Funeral Homes in Alexandria and Pineville where he served families for more than 12 years.

Mr. Miller was a member of Longview Baptist Church and the Bolton Avenue Lion’s Club. He was a member of the North Louisiana Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. In the North Louisiana Funeral Directors Association, he held each office and served as president. He also was honored as North Louisiana Funeral Director of the Year in 1982.He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Thelma Voorhies Miller, and three brothers, Clarence Earl “Bill” Miller, Charles A. Miller and J.D. Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Francis Miller; son Jerred Miller; daughter Jennifer Miller McCann and her husband, Chad; the “light of his life,” granddaughter Hailey Noel McCann; brother John H. Miller of Alexandria; sisters Mary Miller of Alexandria and Betty Laird of Lena.

Pallbearers honored to serve were Joe M. Francis, Marty Francis, James Francis, Tommy Francis, Robin Francis and Jerry Dark, Sr.

Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of Hixson Brothers Funeral Homes.

Memorials may be made to Cabrini Hospice, 3330 Masonic Dr., Alexandria LA 71301 or Longview Baptist Church Building Fund, 973 Hwy. 1207, Deville LA 71328.Services were under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Pineville.

Womack
JoAnn Womack, 93
Funeral services for JoAnn Womack, 93, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 20 at North Hodge Assembly of God with the Rev. Gene Cumpton and Casey Peterson officiating. Burial followed in the Gayla Traina Cemetery.

Mrs. Womack died Jan. 18 at Lincoln General Hospital.

Born June 16, 1909, she was retired from the Continental Can Co.

She is survived by daughter Marzell Phillips and her husband, Bill, and daughter Peggy Griggs and her husband, Stanley, all of Jonesboro; three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and five step-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Thomas Dowdy, Troy Griggs, Randy McKinney, Charles Nalley, Casey Peterson and Steve Miles. Honorary pallbearers were the men of the Adult Sunday School Class at North Hodge Assembly of God. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Hanson
James Hanson, 61
Funeral services for James Edward Hanson, 61, of Atlanta, La., were held Jan. 20 at Sardis Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Keyes officiating. Burial followed at Sardis Cemetery.Mr. Hanson died Jan. 18 at LSU Medical Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1941, in Winnfield, he was an auto body shop repairman. He is survived by wife Sandra Hanson of Atlanta, La.; son James Edward Hanson, Jr. of Wheeling; son James Benjamin Hanson of Atlanta, La.; daughters Teresa Procell and Sharon Wise, both of Winnfield; stepsons Stacy Johnson and Chris Cook, both of Winnfield; stepson Robert Cook of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughters Donna Wise and Wendy Wise, both of Winnfield; sisters Jessie Rae Hand and Inez Hand, both of Winnfield; and sister Ernestine Bishop of Bentley; brother Jimmy Hanson of Farmerville; 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Morgan
Albert Morgan, 79
Funeral services for Albert Joseph Morgan, 79, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 6 at St. Lucy Catholic Church with Father Bob Leonhardt officiating. Burial followed at the Garden of Memories.

Mr. Morgan died Jan. 3 at his residence.

Born Jan. 28, 1923, in Malvern, Ark., he was a retired mail carrier. He was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by wife Mary Morgan and son John Morgan, both of Jonesboro; son Albert J. Morgan, Jr., and wife Dorrit of Tampa, Fla.; grandson Clayton J. Morgan and granddaughter Melissa A. Morgan, both of Tampa; grandson John D. Morgan and granddaughter Mary E. Morgan, both of Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were Jim Beal, Bill Traina, Pat Bosch, Travis Harper, D.J. Allen and Chuck Allen.

Honrary pallbearers were Johnny Jacobs and Ernie Lewter. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Smith
Earl Smith, 85
Funeral services for Earl E. “Bowser” Smith, 85, of Bienville were held Jan. 9 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Arcadia Chapel with the Rev. Onie S. Hay officiating. Burial followed at Mill Creek, near Saline.

Mr. Smith died Jan. 6 at Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center.

He was a forestry worker.Mr. Smith was preceded in death by daughter Linda Kerns. He is survived by wife Dorothy L. Smith of Bienville; son Robert E. Smith and his wife, Nora, of the Sailes Community; son Keith W. Smith and his wife, Kay, of Meridian, Miss.; son Tony R. Smith and his wife, Pam, of Bienville; son Gregory S. Moody and his wife, Gail, of Bienville; daughter Carolyn E. Lowrey and her husband, Benny, of Quitman; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were T.J. Smith, Scottie Harper, Charlie Smith, James D. “Bud” Smith, Wayne Smith, James Smith, Jr., and Randy Hammontree.

Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home Arcadia.

Snoddy
Martha Snoddy, 99
Funeral services were held Jan. 11 for Martha Jane Snoddy, 99, at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Lake Providence.

Mrs. Snoddy died Jan. 9 at Jackson Manor Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Snoddy is survived by son Robert Whitlock and his wife, Mary, of Quitman; daughter Odessa Murphy of Woodville, Texas ; and a number of grandchildren.

Alexander
Mona Alexander, 66
Funeral services for Mona Liles Alexander, 66, of Longview were held Jan. 8 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas , with the Rev. Glenn Erwin officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Park.

Mrs. Alexander Passed away Jan. 4 in a Longview hospital following a brief illness.

Born Oct. 31, 1936, in Jonesboro, Mrs. Alexander was a retired office manager for Simonds Saw and Steel in Shreveport. She had been a resident of Longview since moving there from Shreveport in 1997. She was a Baptist. She loved her family and she loved to travel. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Phurley Liles of Jonesboro; her children, Eric Alexander and Brent Swope, both of Longview, and Dana Alexander Greer of West Monroe; sister Vera Liles Posey of Shreveport, brothers Tracy M. Liles of Jonesboro and John Paul Liles of Shreveport; grandchildren Brandy Greer and Ashleigh Greer; great-grandson Dayton Clarke; seven nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Dean
Edward Dean, 84
Funeral services for Edward J. Dean, 84, were held Jan. 3 at the Greenoaks Funeral Home Chapel in Baton Rouge. Burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Mr. Dean died Dec. 29 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Baton Rouge.

He was a member of the American Legion and a native of Winnfield.

Mr. Dean was preceded in death by daughter Dolores Strickland and sister Edna Thrasher.

He is survived by daughter Gloria Mouisset and her husband, Roger, Breaux Bridge; sisters Mable Varnell and Sarah Brady, both of Winnfield; grandchildren Martin Paul Mouisset, James Mouisset, Debra Mokhtari, Denise Myrick, Donna Menard, Larry Strickland, Elizabeth Lawry and Dean Strickland and 20 great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Greenoaks Funeral Home.

Floyd
Dortha Floyd, 85
Funeral services for Dortha Hardaway Floyd, 85, of Jena were held Jan. 1 at the Chapel of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Burial followed at the Nolley Memorial Cemetery of Jena.

Mrs. Floyd died Dec. 30 at the LaSalle Nursing Home-Jena.

She was a housewife and a member of the Jena First Baptist Church.She is survived by daughter Nancy Floyd Mitchell and her husband, Richard, of Jena; daughter Deborah Floyd Inman and her husband, Dr. Tony, of West Monroe; grandchildren Dwayne Mitchell of Quitman, and Leah Watson, Laurel Andrews and Carlie Andrews, all of West Monroe; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dwight Callender, N.H. Poole, Charles Mills, Norman Welch, Dean Cockerham and Don Mears.

Services were under the direction of Kinner & Stevens-Jena.
