Willie Statum
Willie Mae Statum, 87, of Starks died Friday, June 20, 2008.
She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Starks.
She is survived by three sons, Charles (Boe) Statum of Starks, Larry Glenn Statum and wife Missy of Singer, Terry Dale Statum of Starks; one daughter, Maxine Miller of Starks; three brothers, Shorty Stanley, Edgar Stanley, both of Starks, Jasper Stanley of Vidor, Tex.; three sisters, Frankie Brandon of Buna, Tex., Martha Johnson and Carey Belle Williams, both of Devil’s Pocket, Tex.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Betty Payne and her husband Louis Statum.
Her funeral was held Sunday, June 22, from the First Pentecostal Church in Starks. The Rev. Greg Frazier officiated. Burial was in Miller Cemetery.
Dominick Chambers
The funeral for Dominick Jordan Orion Chambers, 7, was held Tuesday, July 15, in First United Pentecostal Church. The Rev. T. L. Smith and the Rev. Rod Nesmith officiated. Burial was in Green Oak Cemetery
under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder.
Dominick was a resident of Kinder and a student at Kinder Elementary School. He died Saturday, July 12, 2008.
Survivors include his parents, Rachel Trahan of Kinder and Larry Chambers of DeQuincy; brothers, Austin Chambers, Dontae Chambers and Malachi Woolwine; grandparents, Bradley Trahan and Patricia Barker, both of Kinder; and great-grandparents, Lois Bartell of Kinder and Tamsey Trahan of Ragley.
A memorial service for Dominick will be held at a later date in DeQuincy.
James Conley, Sr.
James Patrick "Jim Pat"Conley Sr., 66, native of DeRidder, and resident of Ragley, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence in Ragley.
He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Ragley. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
"Jim Pat" will forever be remembered as a kind man who loved life.
He loved to make folks laugh and would often do whatever it took to bring a smile to your face. He was a very giving man. He loved woodworking and gospel music.
Above all that he loved in this life, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. "Jim Pat" was a beloved father, grandfather and brother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He was the son of the late John Conley and the late Virgie Cooley Conley.
He is survived by one daughter, Molinda Beth "Mollie" Conley Courville of Ragley; one son, James Patrick "Jamie" Conley Jr. and wife Michelle of Sulphur; four sisters, Stella Foland of Jackson , Miss., Dorothy Shepherd of Covington, Ga., Dottie Williams of Yellville, Ark., Caludine Royer of Ragley; one brother, John Freeman Conley of Moss Bluff; four grandchildren, Damion Conley, Dustin Courville, Dylan Conley and Emily Conley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Herman Conley and one sister, Clyo Cooley.
Funeral service was held at First United Pentecostal Church of Ragley Tuesday, July 15, Rev. Sean Chisholm and Rev. Marcus Robinson officiated. interment was in Magnolia Cemetery
in Ragley.

Patricia Dickerson
Patricia Ann Dickerson, 57, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at her residence. Born in Lake Charles, she was a resident of DeQuincy.
Survivors include her husband, William ‘‘Dinky’’ Dickerson of DeQuincy; two sons, Willie Dickerson and Jon Dickerson of DeQuincy; four daughters, Toni Dickerson, Melody Dickerson, Brittany “B.B.” Dickerson and Jodi Dickerson, all of DeQuincy; one sister, Sue Berzas of DeQuincy; and 10 grandchildren.
Her funeral was held Saturday, July 12, at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Ron Fox officiated. Burial was in Perkins Cemetery.
Catherine Knight
Catherine Olsen Knight, 90, Passed away Saturday, July 13, 2008, in a Sulphur hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in Lockport, Feb. 5, 1918, and was a resident of Carlyss until her marriage in 1935 and has since been a resident of DeQuincy.
She owned and operated Knight’s Beauty Parlor in DeQuincy until her retirement in 1988. She was a devout member of First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher in the youth department until her illness prevented it.
She loved working in her yard and growing any kind of flower or plant. She enjoyed sharing plants with anyone who had a love of flowers. She loved to cook and have family gatherings.
A wonderful mother, grandmother and wife who loved her family, friends and her church, she will be remembered with love and respect.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Vicelo Irenos Olsen; sisters, Margarite Cart, Stella “Nookie” Baker, Mary “Snokum” Ellender and Sophia Mount; brothers, Andrew “Luly” Olsen, Spiro Olsen and Archie Olsen; son-in-law, Jerry Gilbert and granddaughter-in-law, Nikki Gilbert.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Carroll J. Knight of DeQuincy; son, Robert G. Knight and wife Ann Knight of DeRidder; daughter, Carolyn Gilbert of DeQuincy; grandchildren, Donna Hudson and husband, Charles and Robert Knight of DeRidder; Cathy Boyer and husband, Blake and Jud Gilbert of DeQuincy; nine great-grandsons, Jared Walker, Justin Walker and wife, Joanne, Tyrell, Ethan, Colton, Gage and Ryder Boyer and Tyler and Dalton Gilbert; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara “Tootsie” Baker and a brother, Charles “Buster” Olsen and wife, Gertie of Carlyss.
Her funeral was held Tuesday, July 15, at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy with Rev. Rob Walls officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery
in DeQuincy under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy.
The visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, July 14, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resumed at the church Tuesday, July 15, from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Arice McKay
Arice "Birdie" McKay, 73, native and resident of Starks, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at his residence in Starks. He was a Christian by faith. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
He will forever be remembered as a kind and hard working man who knew the value in making an honest living.
He was a big jokester and loved to cut up and make folks laugh. He was never selfish and would often give to others and put ahead of himself. Above all that he loved in this life, nothing compared to the love he had for his family.
He was the son of the late Chester McKay and the late Susie Poole McKay.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carlissa Sexton and husband Danny and daughter-in-law Amy McKay of Starks; three sisters, Maxine McDonald and husband Russell of Wichita, Kan., Enid Broussard and husband J. E. of Vinton, and Melba Jean Touchet and husband Richard of Kaplan; two brothers, Avis McKay of Starks, and Archie McKay of Houston, Tex.; seven grandchildren, Sonny Smith, Ashley Smith, Tara Says, Kimberly Dean, R. J. Dean, Haley McKay and Randall McKay; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Nelda Faye Doyle McKay; three sons, Doug Says, Keith Says and Shane McKay; one brother, Arnold McKay.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Calvary Apostolic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Shields officiating. interment will be at Doyle Cemetery
in Starks.
The family received friends from 6-9 p.m Tuesday, July 15 and will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday, July 16.

Roosevelt Sharbino
Roosevelt Sharbino, 75, of Oretta died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at a DeQuincy care center.
A resident of DeQuincy, he was a member of Oretta Pentecostal Church. He worked as a pipeliner and worke for Guy Scroggins Company. Preceding him in death were two daughters, Barbara Biddle and Selestine Dunham.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Rogers of Oretta; sons, Robert Rogers, Charles Rogers and George Hyatt, all of Oretta and Jessie Wayne Rogers of DeQuincy; daughters, Emmy Hydle of Oretta, Mary Leona Powers of Hargrove and Ida Dunham of Texarkana, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His funeral was held Tuesday, July 15, at Oretta Pentecostal Church. Rev. Samuel Ashworth officiated. Burial was in Oretta Cemetery
under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy.
Lloyd VanWinkle
Lloyd O. "Sonny" VanWinkle, 77, native and resident of Dequincy, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at the Care Center of Dequincy.
He was a member of The Pentecostal Church of Dequincy and a member of Masonic Lodge #279. He served in the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Dora Whiddon VanWinkle.
He is survived by one son, Richard H. Newman and wife Jackie of Angie; one sister, Margaret "Nip" Shaheen of Dequincy; and three grandchildren
Graveside services were held at Newlin Cemetery
Saturday, July 12, with the Rev. Lloyd Parker and Bro. Sam Whitman officiating.

Nelby Sliman
Nelby James Sliman, of DeQuincy, died Friday, July 11, 2008. Sliman served as a Seargent in the U. S. Army and was a retired Vietnam Combat Veteran.
He is survived by his father, Mitchell J. Sliman of Bundick Lake; son, John Sliman of DeQuincy; his sister, Roxanne Breaux of Arkansas; step-sister, Becky Launey of Bundick Lake; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Duplechain and son, James Sliman.
Services are pending with Myers-Colonial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
Evana Lambert
Evanna Arabie Lambert, 86, of Westlake died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in her home.
She was a native of Welsh, and lived in the Westlake area most of her life.
She is survived by six sons, John R. Thibodeaux and wife Martha of Moss Bluff, Don F. Lambert, Gerald D. Lambert and wife Wanda, Gary Dean Lambert and wife Elaine, all of Westlake, Randy G. Lambert and wife Donna of Moss Bluff, and Ricky L. Lambert and wife Patricia of Sulphur; four daughters, Sharon Lyles and husband Skipper of Ragley, Peggy Thigpen and husband Donald of Westlake, Connie Smith and husband Gene of DeQuincy, and Tammy Lambert of Westlake; 27 grandchildren; 52 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Lalton and Louis Arabie, both of Lake Charles; three sisters, AzaMae Lavergne and Nola Lasyone, both of Westlake, and Betty Fontenot of Moss Bluff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lambert; a daughter, Royleen “Lyn” Desjardine.
Her funeral was held Sunday, July 13, in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The Revs. Dale Welch, Rocky East and Lloyd Carroll officiated. Burial was in Black Bayou Cemetery.
Elroy Sittig
Elroy Sittig, 82, of Ragley, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at a local hospital.
Mr. Sittig was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a painter for over 30 years for Sline and a past Master Mason of Magnolia Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Virgie L. Sittig and daughter, Laura Sittig Cooper.
Survivors include four daughters, Darla Daley and husband, Philip of Lake Charles, Susan Teasley of Sulphur, Karen Sittig of Tennessee and Cindy Matte and husband, Michael of Longville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held Thursday, July 10, at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Luke Liechty officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery
in Ragley.
Mildred Treme
Mildred Berry Treme, 82, of Leesville, died Thursday, July 10, 2008.
She is survived by one daughter, Mavis Odette and husband Ed; two sons, Elroy Treme and wife Rita, and Gary Treme and wife Dorothy; two sisters, Marie Wagner and Lottie Casewell; one brother, Wayne Berry; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amerson Treme, and granddaughter, Shann Treme.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 12, at the Cooper Baptist Church in Pickering. The Revs. Edgar Evans and Horace Roberts officiated. Burial was in Cooper Cemetery
under the Direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
Myrtie Butler
Myrtie Odell Butler, 74 died Jan. 24, 2009 at Cornerstone Hospital. She was a native of Starks.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Butler of Port Arthur, Tex. and Roger Butler of Starks; one sister, Bobbie Clark of DeRidder; and three grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service held at her home in Starks for friends and family on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.
Allen Brady
Allen Brady, 59, a native of DeRidder and resident of DeQuincy, died in his residence Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009.
