Evelyn C. Shepherd
Funeral services for Ms. Evelyn C. Shepherd, 38, will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at Union Full Gospel Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Ill., with the Rev. Soloman Butler officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Millsaff, Ill., under the direction of L. King Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill.
Visitation will be held at Friday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home.
Ms. Shepherd, a native of Minden and a resident of East St. Louis, Passed away Monday, August 8, after a brief illness at Belleville’s Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1966 in Shreveport.
In 1972, she and her family moved to St. Louis, Mo., and two years later, they moved to East St. Louis, Ill.
She attended East St. Louis public school and graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School in 1985.
She then went on to attend State Community College.
Evelyn had her own way of dealing with friends and loved ones.
She will be missed by all who loved her.
In Jun 1992, she and Aaron Samuel married and had one child, Eumez Samuel.
She was employed by the S.I.U.E. Early Head start, and was employed as a teacher’s aid from 1996 until her passing.
She is survived by her children, Tamika and Eumez Shepherd; one grandson, E’Mond Shepherd; parents, James Shepherd and wife Elaine; mother, Johnetta Jones; seven brothers, Sgt. First Class James Fitzgerald Shepherd and wife Tamela of Carbondale, Ill., and Terrance and Torrez Jones, both of East St. Louis, John L. Jones of Farmington, Mo. and Andra Rucker; six sisters, Denise Rucker of East St. Louis, Nellie Rucker of East St. Louis, Bessie Jones of East St. Louis Stephanie Bailey of Dallas, Texas , and Sheila Bailey of Minden; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be the family and friends of Ms. Shepherd.

Artis Allen Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Artis Allen Jr., 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at 14th District Building, with the Rev. Roy Edwards officiating.
interment to follow at Allen Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, at the funeral home.
Artis Allen Jr. was born April 27, 1922, to the late Artis Allen, Sr. and the late Nancy Cornelius Allen in Minden.
He departed this earthly life on August 2, at the Town and Country Health and Rehab in Minden.
Artis Allen was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Artis James Allen and Willie Joe Allen, both of Minden; three daughters, Joyce Faye Allen, Leona Allen Jefferson all of Minden, and Serena Allen of Compton, Calif.; one sister, Claytus Allen of Minden; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charles Hewitt
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Edward Hewitt, 55, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005, at St. Rest Baptist Church, with the Rev. B. J. Martin officiating. interment to follow at the Walker Cemetery in Gibsland under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 12 at the funeral home.
Charles Hewitt was born Aug. 24, 1949, to the late Leroy Hewitt and Mary Walker Hewitt Amos in Shreveport.
He departed this earthly life on August 6, at the Overton Brooks Veterans Hospital in Shreveport.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted mother and step-father, Mary Amos and John Amos of Minden; one son, Charles Hewitt, Jr. of Minden; two daughters, Teresa Brown of Gibsland, and LaTonya Hewitt of Tyler, Texas ; two brothers, Earnie Hewitt of Ruston, and Carlton Amos of Minden; two sisters, Pamela Miller of Fort Washington , Md., and Shirley Weatherton of Sibley; aunt, Dorothy Hewitt Sherrad of Dallas, Texas ; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Floyd B. Lisenby
Funeral services for the Rev. Floyd B. Lisenby, 78, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at North Acres Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating and Dr. Randy Hales and the Rev. Everett Geis Jr. assisting.
Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at the funeral home.
Rev. Lisenby, a native of Abbieville, Ala., and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, in Shreveport.
He was a minister.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lisenby.
He is survived by his son, David Lisenby of Minden; daughters, Margaret Lisenby of Minden, Teresa Elliott of Tyler, Texas , and Lynda Grafton and husband Robert of Ruston; brother, Maxwell D. Lisenby and wife Euna of Opp, Ala.; one grandson, J.R. Elliott.
Pallbearers will be Stewart Beatty, Don Austin, Jimmy Downs, Mike Powell, Claude Reeves and Mickey Deville.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons wherever Bro. Floyd served as well as Dr. Chris Earnhardt, Dr. Stuart Blum, Dr. John Hardin III and Bobby Igo Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Acres Baptist Church building fund, Camp Harris or to the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank the third floor and the ICU staff at Minden Medical Center and the ICU and sixth floor/oncology staff at Christus Schumpert, and all other physicians who cared for our dad.

Jeptha V. Smith Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Jeptha V. Smith Jr., 68, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home with the Rev. M.L. Moore officiating and the Rev. Terry Moore assisting.
Burial will follow at Sikes Ferry Cemetery in Shongaloo.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith, a native of Vivian and a resident of Elm Grove, Passed away Monday, Aug. 8, in Elm Grove.
He was a maintenance worker for Vowell Oil and Water Well Service.
He is survived by his sister, Addie B. Vowell and husband Roy of Elm Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verda Mae Long
Funeral services for Mrs. Verda Mae Long, 90, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Young’s Chapel with Kay Ruddell officiating.
Burial followed at Minden Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado, Ark.
Mrs. Long, a native of Shongaloo and a resident of El Dorado, Passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 11, 1914, to William Canaday Morgan and Ruth McEachern Morgan.
She was a homemaker and worked at the El Dorado house.
She enjoyed quilting, participated in Senior Citizens Olympics and was an avid fisherman and gardener.
She was of the Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Long; her parents; her sisters, Vedera Peevy and Mattie Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Bettye Whatley McDougal of El Dorado; her son, Bobby Long and his wife Janice of El Dorado; four grandsons, Todd Whatley and Michael Long, both of El Dorado, Christopher Long of Dallas, Texas , and Brandon Long of Fayetteville, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Madison and Seth Whatley; brother, Billy Morgan and his wife, Linda of El Dorado; three sisters, Elsie Orr of Jonesboro, Florene Stevenson and her husband Robert of Bastrop and Era Miller of Minden; and brother-in-law, Travis Brown of Shreveport.

James W. Minor
Funeral services for Mr. James W. “Jim” Minor, 62, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating.
Burial followed at Cotton Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Minor, a resident of Webster Parish, Passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, in Minden.
He was a crane operator for Fibrebond.
He was a Vietnam war veteran, and was loving and caring, giving, witty and devoted.
He was a God-fearing man and attended First Baptist Church in Minden.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jerry Agnes O’Bryant; and his first wife, Jo Minor.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Minor of Minden; one son, Bobby Minor; one daughter, Sharon M. Anderson; granddaughter, Britney Minor; seven step-children, Ronnie Jones and wife Janet, Donna Townsend and husband Paul, Hilda Evans and husband Bobby, James Thornton and wife Fadia, Ricky Holcomb and wife Janet, Ronnie Holcomb and wife Phylis, Renee Sanders and husband Guy, 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were William Null, Travis Moore, Randy Jones, Kenny Jones, Jason Jones and James Herrlage.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners or First Baptist Church.

Pairlee Rice
Funeral services for Mrs. Pairlee Gooding Rice will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Growing Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at Growing Valley Church Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Rice Passed away Thursday, July 28. She was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Webster Parish to the late George and Mattie Berry Gooding.
She joined Growing Valley Baptist Church at an early age, where she served in several capacities including deaconess and missionary services.
On Dec. 29, 1928, she married Ellis Rice Sr., and they had 11 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; all her sisters and brothers; and four children, Lucille Rice, Gladys Jimmerson, Amos Rice and Emma Rice.
She is survived by her children, Levada R. Mitchell and husband Robert of Minden, Samuel Rice and wife Terri of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Matthew Rice of Minden, Annie Toney and husband Kenneth of Dallas, Texas , Ellis Rice Jr. and wife Gertrude of Minden, Treable McDonald and husband Milton of Minden, and George Rice and wife Ora of Minden; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Davis, Anthony Rice, Courtney Poole, Steve Rice, Robert B. Mitchell III, Antoine Davis, Turmaine Rice and Joe Rice.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Growing Valley deacons and Bright Star deacons.
A special thanks goes to Ora Rice; Quality Independent Service, Latisha Pennywell; Angel Health Care and Sitter Service, Judy Snead, Anthony Drayton, Jean Stevens, Dorothy Myers, Crystal Cooper, Valerie Smith, Gina Irving and Laketa Crawford; Willis-Knighton; Professional Health Care Service; and Fresenius Dialysis Services.

Annie Lee Clark
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Lee Clark will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Holy Faith Christian Center in Minden.
Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today, August 4, at the funeral home.

Rollie Robinson Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Rollie Pete “Riley Riley” Robinson Jr., 37, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Bright Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Rickey Altsork officiating. interment to follow at Bright Star Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 5 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m.
Rollie Robinson, Jr. was born June 20, 1968, to the late Rollie Robinson, Sr. and the late Alice Kemp Robinson.
He departed this earthly life on July 31.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparent, brother, Joel Kemp, niece, Justice Jackson , and nephews, Derrick Kemp and Chadrick Kemp.
He leaves to cherish his memory, five brothers, Willie Kemp, Milton Kemp, Sidney Hawk, Antonio Robinson and Claudell Robinson, all of Minden; five sisters, Jo Ann Kemp, Loretta Kemp, Marie Kemp, Sharon Robinson, and LaShonda Robinson, all of Minden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
