Gertrude Davis Hayes

Gertrude Davis Hayes, a native and resident of Killona, died on Friday, March 8. She was 89.

Hayes was the daughter of the late Harriet Gray and John B. Davis, Sr.; beloved wife of the late Herman Hayes; loving mother of the late Whitney Sr. and John B. Hickerson, Sr.; sister of the late Olivia Talbert, Clamonce Milton Sr., Robert Herbert and Rev. John B. Davis, Jr; sister-in-law of Pearl L. and Yvonne P. Davis; aunt of Theresa Davis Ranson and Evelyn Davis Funches; mother-in-law of Dora Hickerson. She is also survived by two grandsons, John Jr. and Whitney Hickerson, Jr., a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A funeral was held on Wednesday, March 13 at Isreal Baptist Church in Killona.

Marguerite Perret McMurry

Marguerite Perret McMurry, a resident of Norco, died at Ormond Nursing Care Center in Destrehan on Thursday, March 7. She was 96.

McMurry was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Dewitt MCMurry; mother of the late Lois Kaiser; sister of the the late Jeanne Starr and Lolita Waguespack and Henry Perret; Mother of Thomas McMurry and wife, Joyce, and Courtney McMurry, Eula McMurry and mother-in-law of Brian Kaiser. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, March 12 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. Entombment followed at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve. Arrangements entrusted to H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco.

George Bolden

George Bolden, a resident of Bayou Gauche, died on March 4. He was 78.

Bolden is survived by his wife, Hazel Henson Bolden; sons, George David Bolden and Tommy Eugene Bolden; daughter, Sharon Bolden Dufrene; brothers, Gerald Pat Bolden and James Roy Bolden; sister, Betty Jean Sanders; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Todd Bolden.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 12 at the First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph J. Roussel

Ralph “Bozo” J. Roussel, a resident of Norco, died on March 5. He was 73.

Roussel was the beloved husband of Mary Badeaux Roussel; son of the late William J. and Lizzie St. Pierre Roussel; father of Ralph “Tootie” Roussel Jr., Melissa L’Hoste, Kelly Laiche, and Daryl Roussel; father-in-law of Keith W. L’Hoste, Paige Laiche, and Clint and Colby Roussel; brother of Lewis E. Roussel, Mary Anne Millet, and the late O’Leary and Bruce Roussel, Bernice Breaud, Yvonne Schexnaydre, and Stelma Simoneaux. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, March 8 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. Entombment followed at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are requested to : Metropolitan Community Hospice Foundation, 29 Millers Creek Lane, Slidell, Louisiana 70458. Arrangements entrusted to H.G. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco.

Janice Hutchinson

Janice Hutchinson, a resident of Boutte, died on March 1. She was 65.

Hutchinson is survived by her mother, Jeannette C. Hebert; sons, Leonard and David Hutchinson; brothers, Billy and Walter Hebert, Jr.; sister, Glenda Dodson; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Hebert. Memorial Services were held Monday, March 4 at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland was in charge of arrangements.

Tura Dufrene Ruiz

Tura Dufrene Ruiz, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died on March 1. She was 48.

Ruiz is survived by her husband, Michael Ruiz; father, Roosevelt Anthony Dufrene; son, Daniel Ruiz; brothers, Leon Barnum of Picayune, MS., Brian Dufrene of Raceland, and Philip Dufrene of Luling; and sister, Kathleen Dufrene Horn of Mesquite, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Adams Dufrene. Ruiz was a parishioner of St. Gertrudes Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 4 at St. Gertrudes. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland was in charge of arrangements.

Bergeron

Wallace “Swampy” Bergeron, a native of Boutte and resident of Des Allemands, died on April 24. He was 64. Bergeron was a member of the Des Allemands Mennonite Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the area.

Bergeron is survived by his mother, Marion Trauth Bergeron. Sons, Todd and Timothy Bergeron. Daughters, Toni Stone, Nicole Plaisance and Claire Zeringue. Brothers, Freddie, Ray and Donald Bergeron. Sisters, Sylvia Bertrand and Wanda Bergeron. Also survived by eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Martin Bergeron. Father, Alex Joseph Bergeron. Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Des Allemands Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Samart Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.

Donaldson

Ruby Marie Donaldson, a native of Goodhope and a resident of Norco, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling. She was 75.

Donaldson was the beloved sister of Norma Donaldson of Norco, Jeri D. Landry of Luling, Joyce Donaldson of Norco, Doris D. Menezes of Luling and Arthur Donaldson Jr. of Houston. Daughter of the late Arthur L. Donaldson and Elizabeth Marchand Donaldson.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Ladies Altar Society, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and choir member at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a member of the Nifty Fifties.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, April 26 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco. Entombment followed in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery in Destrehan.

Aucoin

Marie “Kit” St. Amant Aucoin, a life-long resident of Luling, died on Tuesday, April 15 at Evangeline of Ormond Nursing Home. She was 98.

Aucoin was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and a member of St. Anthony’s Ladies Altar Society and the choir. She was a recipient of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Order of St. Louis Medallion.

Survivors include two daughters, Pearl Aucoin Bourgeois and Mae Aucoin Champagne; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass was held Thursday, April 17 at St. Anthony’s. Burial was in the St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling. Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Matherne

Sidney John Matherne, a retired welder for Shell Oil Norco Refinery, died on April 16 at his home in Garyville. He was 87.

Matherne was a member and past Trustee of St. Hubert Church, lifetime member of the Holy Name Society, and a member of the Woodman of the World.

Beloved husband of 61 years of Lise Tassin Matherne. Father and father-in-law of Sidney John, Jr. and Amber, Douglas M. and Gerry, Phil E. and June, Allen M. and Jody Matherne, Gloria M. and Gordon Tamplain, Sr., Noreen M. and Paul Champagne and Patty M. and Conrad Baker, Sr. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two deceased great-grandchildren. Son of the late Charles and Leonie Tamplain Matherne. Brother of Elise Zeringue, Gertrude Brady Walker, Inez Duhon Blank, Eunice Miller, Elsie Cambre, and the late Adam, Joseph and Charles Matherne Jr.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 19 at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Garyville. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery.

Breaux

Wilfred Breaux, a resident of Des Allemands, died on April 13. He was a parishioner of St. Gertrude Church and a World War II veteran. He was 79.

Breaux is survived by his wife, Velma Matherne Breaux; sons, Wilfred (Butsy) and wife Mary Breaux, Gregory (Moose) and wife Debbie Breaux, Kerry (Brillo) Breaux and Frank (Davis) Breaux; brother, J.C. Breaux; sisters, Mrs. Ollie Curlee, Mrs. Willie Mae Ogea, Mrs. Winnie Manuel, Mrs. Marjorie Miller, Mrs. Minnie Boudoin, and Mrs. Bertha Guillory; nine grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eraste and Felicia Bourque Breaux. A Memorial Mass will be held today at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.

McClure

Leslie G. McClure, a retired control system coordinator of 32 years with Union Carbide died Tuesday, April 9 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 73.

Mr. McClure was born in Yawkey, West Virginia and resided in luling for most of the past 24 years. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Becker McClure; a daughter, Wendy M. Beltz; two sons, Derrell R. McClure of Canyon Lake, TX and Donald P. Hare, Jr.; a brother, Deward D. McClure of Hartwell, GA; a grandson, Devon G. Beltz; and a granddaughter, Randi M. Beltz. Services were private.

Candies

Bessie B. Candies, a resident of Des Allemands, died on April 2. She was 89.

Candies is survived by here daughter-in-law, Regina Candies. Sister Alice Barrios. Grandchildren, Shane Candies, Owen Candies, Jr. and Tanya Candies. Also survived by five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick F. Candies. Parents, Oneil Barrios Sr. and Mable Rossi Barrios. Son, Owen Candies Sr. Brothers, Oneil Barrios Jr., Earnest Barrios, and Rudy Barrios. Sister, Mabley Barrios Guzzetta.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 4 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands. Burial was in Christen Cemetery in Des Allemands. Landry’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Savola

Marjorie Ruth Russell Savola, a resident of Destrehan, died April 1 at her home. She was 80.

Savola was a former school teacher with the Jefferson Parish School System and a former tennis instructor. She was also a member of the St. Charles Historical Society, Jefferson Performing Arts Society, founding member of the River Parishes Community Chorus, and a former member of the Greater New Orleans Area chapter of the Sweet Adelines. She graduated from Jefferson High School, attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS and St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans. She was inducted into the Louisiana Tennis Hall of Fame in 1999 and was an active USTA senior tennis player achieving regional and national rankings, she represented Louisiana in the senior olympics and won gold medals. She was an elder at Parkway Presbyterian Church and a member of the St. Charles Parish Republican Women’s Association.

She is survived by her husband, Onnie A. “Pete” Savola. Daughters, Vicki Ruth Davis of El Paso, TX; Marjorie Ellen Savola of New Orleans; and Onni Aileen Cesta of Destrehan. She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert and Nina Howard Russell.

Funeral Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 6200 Camphor Street in Metairie. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Burial will take place in the Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 9025, Pitts field, MA 01202-9025.

Caillet

Odell Francis Caillet, a native of Killona and resident of Luling, died on Sunday, May 19 at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans.

He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Brou Caillet. Loving father of Mary-Joan Caillet Smith. Devoted grandfather of Jeremy Russell Smith and Brittany helene Smith. Preceded in death by his son Edward Gerard Caillet. Son of the late Cycil A. Caillet Sr. and Denise Waguepack Caillet. Brother of Mrs. Helene Baudouion, Mrs. Shirley Mae Lambert, Mrs. Muriel Foxsworth, Cycil A. Caillet Jr. and the late Mrs. Leola Madere, Mrs. Lois Baudouin, Mrs. Florence Madere, Mrs. Hazel Millet and Mr. Paul Victor Caillet.

Caillet was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409 and American Legion Post 131. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling on Wednesday, May 22. Entombment followed at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling. H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco handled the arrangements.

Bourgeois

Percy Joseph Bourgeois, Sr., a resident of Norco, died on Saturday, May 18 in New Orleans. He was 91.

Bourgeois was the husband of the late Inez Haydel Bourgeois. Son of the late Anicet and Yolande Tyler Bourgeois. Father and father-in-law of Patricia and James Poche of Norco; Percy, Jr. and Sandy Bourgeois of Destrehan; and Guy and Judy Bourgeois of Norco. Brother of Marian Landry of Baton Rouge; Roy Bourgeois, Sr. of Lutcher; the late Arthemise Bleakly, Ruth Bleakly Elaine Foret and Harold Bourgeois.

He was a KC member of the Red Church Council #3634. Also survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 21 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Paulina. Donations may be made in his memory to the Metropolitan Hospice, 5650 Read Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70127.

Gilder

Thomas Hill Gilder died on Monday, May 13 in San Mateo, California. He was 57.

Gilder is survived by his four brothers, Hal M. Gilder and his wife Abbie of Prairieville; Eugene C. Gilder and his wife Raynell of Crowley; Robley A. Gilder and his wife Charlette of Hahnville; and Galen A. Gilder and his wife Corinne of Crowley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal M. Gilder and Hollis Gilder.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 18 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley. A rosary visitation was held Friday night. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.

Geesey-Ferguson F.H. Inc. of Crowley was entrusted with arrangements.

Thomas

Ronald E. Thomas, Sr., a resident of Norco, died at his residence on Sunday, May 12. He was 94.

Mr. Thomas retired from Shell Oil Company after 45 years of service. He served as treasurer for 50 years of Shell Employees’ Federal Credit Union, which later became Louisiana Federal Credit Union. Mr. Thomas was past Master of Square and Compass Lodge #417 in Kenner. He had served as an Elder for many years in Good Hope Presbyterian Church and was active in youth sports, especially bowling and baseball.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen M. Thomas, one son, Ronald E. Thomas, Jr., two granddaughters, Joy and Amy Thomas and their mother, Elizabeth Thomas. He is also survived by one brother, James. D. Thomas and wife Marilyn, and one sister, Annie Ruth Hill and husband Ray.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 16 at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling. Entombment followed in St. Louis Cemetery #3 in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ronald E. Thomas, Sr. Memorial Fund, in care of First Union Presbyterian Church, 134 Lakewood Drive, Luling, 70070.

Mr. Thomas will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father.

Naquin

Betty Klibert Naquin, a native of Garyville and a resident of Luling, died on May 31. She was 66.

Beloved of wife of the late John R. Naquin. Mother of Jill N. Savoie, Charlene N. Chiasson, and Darren J. Naquin. Sister of Dorothy K. Roussel, Lloyd Klibert, the late Harold Klibert and the late Armuntine Oubre Klibert. Mother in law of Warren Savoie Jr. and Adrian Chiasson. Grandmother of Ryan Chiasson, Megan Chiasson and Luke Savoie.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 3 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling. Entombment followed St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Cancer Society or Holy Catholic Church.

Comardelle

Vivian Matherne Comardelle, a native of Gheens and a resident of Des Allemands died on Friday, May 31 at age 84.

Comardelle was a member of St. Gertrude Ladies Altar Society. Beloved mother of Jackie Cheramie, Genevieve Frickey, JoAnn Rogers, Era Jane Toney, Walter Comardelle, and Murphy Comardelle. Sister of Norman, Nerman, Johnny Matherne. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Comardelle. Parents Joseph and Mercedese Schouest Matherne. Sisters Mabel Hogan, Nora Abadie, Emma Falcon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday June 3 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemends. Entombment followed at Mennonite Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Waguespack

Harris A. Waguespack Jr., a native and resident of Lockport, died June 1. He was 88.

Waquespack was retired from the La. Department of Transportation and Development. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Lockport Volunteer Fire Department, and an usher at Holy Savior Church.

Beloved husband of Mae Degruise Waguespack. Father of Mary W. Weimer, Evelyn W. Dupuy, and Janet W. Owens. Brother of Annie Waguespack and Marion Waguespack. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Harris Waguespack Sr. and Josephine Melancon Waguespack. Sisters Gleo W. LeCompte and Anna Mae W. McClain.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 4 at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport. Entombment followed at Holy Savior Cemetery.
