Phyllis A. Thoresen, 78

Cummaquid - Phyllis Augusta Thoresen, 78, who leaves family on the Cape, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998 at her daughter's home after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Walter W. Thoresen Sr.

Mrs. Thoresen lived in Malden all her life until moving in with her daughter in Cummaquid last year.

She was a 1938 graduate of Malden High School and also graduated from the Somerville School of Nursing and Massachusetts School of Physical Therapy in Boston.

Mrs. Thoresen was a physical therapist and registered nurse and was the owner of the Thor Physical Therapy & Health Center in Malden for 48 years. She started the first physical therapy department at Malden Hospital more than 50 years ago, and also lectured at Harvard University on training for rheumotology.

She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Malden, active with the Junior & Senior Aids at Malden Hospital and a member of Malden Zonta Club and the Unity Church.

Surviving are a son, John C. Bradstreet of California; three daughters, Jewel D. Lawrence of Medford, Karen P. Thoresen-McNally of Boxford and Kristine J. Thoresen of Cummaquid; two brothers, Richard A. Fredrickson of Topsfield and Victor J. Fredrickson of Brewster; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Walter W. Thoresen Jr.

A funeral service was held at the First Lutheran Church, 62 Church St., Malden. Burial was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Leonard J. Travis Jr., 69

West Barnstable - Leonard John Travis Jr., 69, a computer technician, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998 at his home after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Jean B. (Bryer) Travis.

Born in Chicago, he was raised and educated in the Midwest He graduated from Stamford University.

He lived in Lexington for a number of years, then in Concord briefly. After retiring 12 years ago, he moved to West Barnstable.

Mr. Travis was a computer technician for Data General in Westboro. He continued to work out of his home privately until five years ago.

He enjoyed computers and genealogy.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Charles Travis of North Falmouth; two stepsons, Dale G. Miquelle of Tierney, Siberia, Russia, and Dana B. Miquelle of Bozeman, Mont; a stepdaughter, Debra A. Prudden of Andover; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the John Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills. Burial was in Crocker Park Cemetery, West Barnstable.

Marie Louise Hayden, 95

Holbrook - Marie Louise Hayden, 95, of Holbrook, a retired educator, died on Aug. 25, 1998 in the home in which she was born after a period of failing health.

She had resided in Maine, Whitinsville, Hyannis and Centerville, Massachusetts, returning to her family home upon her retirement in 1969.

Miss Hayden was a graduate of Sumner High School, Holbrook, Brockton Business College and Boston University School of Business Administration. She taught in Brockton, Whitinsville and Barnstable High School after 49 years in the field of education.

An avid writer, Miss Hayden corresponded with scores of former students whom she trained and placed in business positions. She was invited to and attended many of their class reunions and had planned to attend one in September.

Miss Hayden was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Josepheens, a member of several professional organizations; a charter member of Zeta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honor society of women educators. She was on the board of the Holbrook Historical Society serving as its treasurer for many years; past treasurer and present clerk of the Wendell Cemetery Corporation. She was a member of Friends of the Library and the Council on Aging.

She enjoyed reading, handiwork and vacationing in Maine, Canada and Cape Cod.

She is survived by two brothers, Luther L. Hayden of Brockton and Robert E. Hayden and wife Helen, of Augusta, Maine; and a sister, Christie C. Hayden of Holbrook. She is also survived by two nephews, five nieces, 22 grandnieces and nephews.

She was a sister of the late Ruth, Dorothy and Everett Hayden.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph's Church, Holbrook, or Old Colony Hospice, 14 Page Terrace, Stoughton, MA 02072.

Alban M. Lobo Jr., 59

Hyannis - Alban M. Lobo Jr., 59, a former quality control inspector, died Aug. 24, 1998 at New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston.

Mr. Lobo was born and raised in Worcester. He graduated from Commerce High School and Boys Trade High School, both in Worcester.

He lived in Florida before moving to Hyannis 15 years ago.

Mr. Lobo worked in the deli department at Stop & Shop supermarket before retiring due to illness. He also had been a quality control inspector at the Cape Cod Potato Chip Co. for more than 10 years.

He enjoyed saltwater and freshwater fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Lobo and Richard Lobo, both of Worcester; a daughter, Tina Lobe of Worcester; a brother, Martin Lobo of North Grafton; four grandchildren; and two nephews.

The funeral was held in Worcester.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, Project 2000, Building and Renovation Fund, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton, MA 01536.

Mildred Madden, 90

Scituate - Mildred (Thibault) Madden, 90, formerly of Hyannis, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate.

She was the wife of John M. "Jack" Madden, who died in 1974.

Born and raised in Brockton, Mrs. Madden was educated in Brockton public schools. She married in 1928 and moved to Hyannis where she lived until moving to the Life Care Center in Scituate in 1992.

Mrs. Madden was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and was a member of its Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Cummaquid Golf Club and the Questers Club, a Cape Cod historical and antique group.

She enjoyed oil painting, collecting antiques, braiding and playing golf.

She is survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Patricia Nelson and Jacqueline O'Neil.

The funeral was followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial followed in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.

Wayne E. Nobre, 54

West Harwich - Wayne E. Nobre, 54, a local restaurant cook, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 at Brewster Manor after a long illness.

Born and educated in New Bedford, Mr. Nobre lived in Hyannis before moving to West Harwich 20 years ago. He was a cook at Raspberries in Harwich for seven years.

Surviving are two sons, Kyle Elliott of Taunton and Robie Elliott of Yarmouth, three daughters, Shelley Elliott and Heidi Kampersal, both of Harwich, and Lisa Tissari of Yarmouth; four brothers, Willey Nobre and Robert Nobre, both of Hyannis, Randy Nobre of Yarmouth and Michael Nobre of Centerville; a sister, Shirley Herbert of Yarmouth; and seven grandchildren.

Service and burial will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Harwich.

Josephine Perry, 77

New Bedford - Josephine (Pina) Perry, 77, who leaves family on the Cape, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998 at The Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Domingo P. Perry.

Born in Marstons Mills, she was a 1939 graduate of Barnstable High School and also graduated from Kinyon-Campbell Business School. She lived most of her life in New Bedford and was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mrs. Perry worked for the American Red Cross New Bedford Chapter for more than 25 years, retiring as assistant director in 1983.

She enjoyed dancing and traveling.

Surviving are two daughters, Roberta Davis and Judy Perry, both of New Bedford; two stepdaughters, Joan Simmons and Shelia Washington , both of Connecticut; a brother, Joseph E. Pina of Osterville; four sisters, Louise Mendes, Mary Mitte and Laura Andrade, all of New Bedford, and Anne Hull of Hyannis; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Charles P. Perry.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church in New Bedford.

Theresa Seymour, 69

Osterville - Theresa M. Seymour, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community Manor.

She was the wife of George J. Seymour and the late Alfred Jean.

Mrs. Seymour was born, raised and educated in Gardner. She lived in Fitchburg for 30 years before moving to Osterville 20 years ago.

Her many talents included antique furniture refinishing, hand-painting furniture and handhooking rugs.

Mrs. Seymour was a member of the Newcomers Club and Square Dancers.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Thomas Jean and Michael Jean, both of Fitchburg; a daughter, Paula Rivard of Osterville; three stepsons, David Seymour of Boston, Michael Seymour of New York City and Terrance Seymour of Worcester; three stepdaughters, Sheila Whittle and Ann Marie Vancelet, both of Worcester, and Mary Briand of Stoneham; a sister, Marie Meeker of Lnnenburg; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were private.
