Alberta E. McAdams

ATHOL - Alberta E. (Sarah) McAdams, 90, formerly of Athol, died Thursday, May 30, in Buckley Healthcare Center, Greenfield.

Her husband of 66 years, Charles E. McAdams Sr., died in 1994. She leaves a son, Charles E. McAdams Jr. of Washington Crossing, Pa.; a daughter, Alberta "Petie" McAdams Tolin of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Three brothers and five sisters predeceased her. She was born and raised in Milford, daughter of James and Eliza J. (Dunston) Sarah, and moved to Athol in 1932. She lived there 52 years before moving to Greenfield.

Mrs. McAdams was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed cards and reading and was an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her family.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 20 Church St., Hopkinton. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hopkinton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buckley Healthcare Facility Activities Fund, 95 Laurel St., Greenfield, MA 01301; or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 20 Walnut St., Suite 318, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. John F. McDermott Sr.

AUBURN - John F. McDermott Sr., 76, of 19 Colonial Road, a World War II veteran, was stricken ill and died Thursday, May 30, at home.

His wife of 42 years, Dolores (Williams) McDermott, died in 1997. He leaves a son, John F. McDermott Jr.; a daughter, Dolores E. Flink of Worcester; two sisters, Rita Morgan and Joan McDermott, both of Worcester; four grandchildren. A son, Paul T. McDermott, died in 1991. A sister, Elizabeth Walter, also predeceased him. He was born in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, son of Charles L. and Mary (McManus) McDermott, and lived 42 years in Auburn. He graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1943 and from College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, in 1950. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

Mr. McDermott was a probation officer at the Fitchburg District Court for 10 years. He also taught at Auburn High School. Previously, he was an adjuster for Insurance Company of North America for 18 years. He was a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus; a member of Auburn Lodge of Elks and McDonald's of Auburn Breakfast Club; a volunteer at Worcester Senior Center; and a member of St. Joseph's Church, where he taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

The funeral will be held Monday, June 3, from Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester (www.callahanbrothers.com), with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, in the funeral home.

Michael Mikhael, 68

WORCESTER - Michael Mikhael, 68, of Plantation Street, retired barber, died Saturday, June 1, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Marie (Bachour) Mikhael; three sons, Abdo M., Richard M. and Andre M. Mikhael, all of Worcester; a daughter, Katia M. Georges of Worcester; three brothers, Simon and Nicholas Mikhael, both of Lawrence, and John Mikhael of Beirut, Lebanon; four sisters, Helen Bachour of Southfield, Mich., Rahile Khouri, Eannette Modane and Georgette Arangie, all of Beirut; and five grandchildren. A sister, Juliet Mikhael, predeceased him. He was born in Beirut, son of Abdo and Farda (Arangi) Mikhael, and came to Worcester in 1982.

Mr. Mikhael was a barber for most of his life. He was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the cathedral hall with a Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 3. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 30 Anna St., Worcester, MA 01604; or to American Diabetes Association, Massachusetts Affiliate, 1 Bromfield St., Boston, MA 02108. Victor F. Millus, 90

WORCESTER - Victor F. Millus, 90, of 49 Pleasant Valley Drive, retired produce manager and World War II veteran, died Friday, May 31, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus.

His wife of 49 years, Elizabeth W. (Mungovan) Millus, died in 1997. He leaves two nieces, Jane McDonald of Holden and Althea Colaianni of Marlboro. Two brothers, Edward and Joseph Millus, and two sisters, Mary Dugan and Alberta Maki, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Michael and Amelia (Thokimas) Millus, and lived in Hanover, Pa., before returning to Worcester 65 years ago. He graduated from Hanover High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant.

Mr. Millus worked more than 40 years in retail food markets, retiring in 1977. For most of his career, he was a produce manager for Stop & Shop markets. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, its Men's Club, the Quarter Century Stop & Shop Club, Main South American Legion Post 341, United Food Commercial Workers Union Local 1445, Greendale Retired Men's Club, St. Stephen's Pitch League and the 49'ers Club. He also enjoyed reading, bowling and golfing.

The funeral will be Monday, June 3, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, Mount Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.

Leslie E. Moore, 100; former T&G executive editor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Leslie E. Moore, 100, formerly of Smith Street and Worcester, a former executive editor at the Telegram & Gazette, died Wednesday, May 29, in the Hallworth House.

He leaves his wife, Aznev Der Bagdasarian; a son, Daniel Kemp Moore of Rumford, R.I.; and two grandchildren. He was born in Troll Common, Trowbridge, England, son of Ernest and Alice (Rose) Moore, and lived in Worcester for 32 years, and in Yarmouth Port for 35 years, before moving to Providence four years ago. He graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., where he was a member of the Glee Club, the soccer team and the Emerson Literary Society.

Mr. Moore began his career in journalism in 1929 with the New Haven Register as a reporter and editorial writer. He began his 30 - year career with the Telegram & Gazette, Worcester, in 1936, as an editorial writer. From 1945 to 1949, he was a radio news commentator for WTAG in Worcester. After retiring to Cape Cod, he was president and director for 14 years of the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts. He was the founder and first president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, president of the New England Associated Press News Executives Association and president of New England Association of Newspaper Editors. In 1964, he was elected to the Academy of New England Journalists. He was a past president of the board of directors of Leicester Junior College and was a founding member and the first president of Worcester County Light Opera. He was a former program chairman of the Worcester County Musical Association, and a board member of the Worcester Orchestral Society. He was a member of the Cape Club, the Bohemians of Worcester and New England Gilbert & Sullivan Society.

Edmund E. Morel, 90

SOUTH PASADENA, Fla. - Edmund E. Morel, 90, of South Pasadena, formerly of Hudson, Mass., died Thursday, May 23, at home.

He leaves a son, Roger Morel of South Pasadena; a daughter, Joan Wheeler of Mashpee, Mass.; a sister, Geri O'Neal of Hillsboro, N.H.; a brother, James Morel of Hudson; four grandchildren; and seven great - grandchildren. He was born in Hudson, and moved to Florida in 1988.

Mr. Morel was a self - employed auto mechanic. He was a member of St. Anne's Church and its choir, and of Ty Rods Club in Concord, Mass.

National Cremation Society, 5544 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, is directing arrangements.

E. James Murray, 82
Monday, June 03, 2002

STERLING - E. James Murray, 82, of 230 Upper North Row Road, died Sunday, June 2, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after a brief illness.

His wife of 59 years, Neverlie L. (Somers) Murray, died Saturday, May 25. He leaves four sons, Donlin K., Verne S. and Lauren James Murray, all of Sterling, and Jodre E. Murray of Leominster; a daughter, Cheryl Murray of Sterling; a sister, Beatrice E. Powers of Leominster; five grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren. Sixteen siblings and a granddaughter predeceased him. He was born in Sterling, son of Ephraim and Nellie (Dooley) Murray, and graduated from Leominster High School in 1937.

Mr. Murray owned and operated Murray Farm. After retiring from dairy farming in 1986, he continued to operate the farm. He was a member of the Sterling Grange for 68 years, serving as president and vice president.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster. Diana P. Otto, 61
Monday, June 03, 2002

KILLINGLY - Diana P. Otto, 61, of Cranberry Bog Road, Danielson section of Killingly, formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, June 1, in Danielson after a short illness.

She leaves her husband, Neal Otto; two daughters, Kathleen Hoover of Worcester and Karen Otto of Webster; a son, Mark Otto of Pomfret Center; a sister; and six grandchildren. She was born in Newark, N.J., daughter of Frederick and Elsie (Smith) Burns, and lived in Florham Park, N.J., and in Woodstock before moving to Danielson in 1998.

Mrs. Otto was an executive secretary for Columbia Research & Manufacturing Co. in Danielson. She worked for the past 10 years as an assistant manager at Brooks Pharmacy in Webster. She was a member of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and caring for animals.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

George W. Peck, 77, was acclaimed stunt driver

SPENCER - George W. Peck, 77, of 123 Mechanic St., a World War II veteran, died Saturday, June 1, at home after an illness.

He leaves his companion of 27 years, Catherine A. Pollack, with whom he lived; a stepson, Arthur Belmore of Spencer; a stepdaughter, Heather C. Bernadone of Southbridge; a brother, Arthur L. Peck of Knoxville, Tenn.; four step - grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Myrtle Bullock of Spencer, predeceased him. He was born in Webster, son of Louis A. and Grace L. (Ober) Peck, and lived more than 28 years in Spencer. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Peck worked 38 years for Presment Corp., retiring in 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 530 Brookfield - Spencer. Among his hobbies, he was a stunt driver for Les Rogers International Hell Driver and had his own show, International Stunt Drivers. He was international rollover champion in 1949 and 1950.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 163 Main St. A calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Joseph A. Poliks, 86

GARDNER - Joseph A. Poliks, 86, of 112 Chapel St., a World War II veteran, died Saturday, June 1, at home.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Henrietta B. (Pacocha) Poliks; a daughter, Phyllis Zwirko of Glendale, Md.; a sister, Henrika Boucher of Westminster; two brothers, Anthony Poliks of Gardner and Edmond Poliks of Suffied, Conn.; two grandchildren; and a great - grandchild. A brother, Chester Poliks, died in 1997. He was born in Gardner, son of Boleslaw and Mary Ann (Wojdylak) Poliks. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1935 and College of the Holy Cross Institute of Industrial Relations, Worcester. He was an Army and Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific and participating in the battle at Iwo Jima.

Mr. Poliks worked at Heywood Wakefield and Florence Stove Co. He was general manager for the York Lounge division of Sealy Mattress Co. in Waterbury, Conn., and at Barclo Co. in Buffalo, N.Y. He was also director of personnel for Yardney Electric Corp. in Pawcatuck, Conn. He retired in 1984.

He was a selectman in North Stonington, Conn.; chief negotiator and a labor relations specialist for the Navy Electric Boat Division in Groton, Conn.; director of labor relations for the Naval plant representatives in Great Neck, Long Island; a member of St. Joseph's Church, the American Arbitration Association, the Industrial Relations Institute of America, American Legion Post 129 and the National Chapter of Disabled American Veterans; a life member of Polish American Veterans; a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in North Stonington, Conn.; and past state district vice commander of the Marine Corps League.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, June 5, from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the funeral home.

Lawrence Reynard, 75

HUDSON - Lawrence R. Reynard, 75, of 25 Rebecca Ave., a World War II veteran, died Thursday, May 31, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, Marjorie F. (MacDonald) Reynard; a son, Milford E. Reynard of Framingham; four daughters, Sarah Reynard Epifano of Fairfield, Conn., Barbara A. Masciarelli of Hudson, Donna Jacobites of Franklin, and Joanne L. Duros of Petersham; two sisters, Constance R. Tavares and Linda J. Fahey, both of Hudson; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A daughter, Laura M. Dube; two brothers, Ernest E. and David A. Reynard; and a sister, Marilyn E. Sebastian, predeceased him. He was born in Marlboro, son of Benjamin F. and Irene (Rimmi) Reynard, and lived most of his life in Hudson. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1945, and later attended Norwich and Columbia universities. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Reynard was a civil engineer for the state, retiring several years ago.

He was a member of Marlboro - Hudson Unitarian Universalist Church, and was a life member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1927, American Legion Post 1032 in Marlboro and the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association. He was a founding member of the Hudson Men's Softball League.

The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 2, in Marlboro - Hudson Unitarian - Universalist Church, Main Street. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 1, in Merrill - Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St., Hudson. Donations may be made to Hudson Community Food Pantry, PO Box 608, Hudson, MA 01749.
