Stuart S. Blauner, 87

Hyannis - Dr. Stuart Sheridan Blauner, 87, a retired physician, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital as a result of congestive heart failure.

He was born and raised in New York City.

He was a 1927 graduate of George Washington High School in New York. He received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked at the 2nd General Hospital in England.

He began his 40-year medical career as an internist in White Plains, N.Y. He was director of the cardiopulmonary service at the Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and others in and around New York,

Along with the late Dr. Herman Tarnower, he began the cardiac intensive care unit at the White Plains Hospital, one of the first in the country. He served as both chief of medicine and chief of staff at the White Plains Hospital.

He retired in 1979 and moved to Brewster with his family.

He enjoyed travel, oil painting, boating, music, photography, cribbage and solitaire.

His first two wives­Inez M. (Harrig) Blauner and Elisabeth (Miller) Blauner­preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha (Silver) Blauner of Potomac, Md.; two sons, Paul Blauner of Centerville, and Robert Blauner of East Bridgewater; three daughters, Ellen Blauner of White Plains, N.Y., Constance Zahavi of Westboro and Susan Blauner of Harwich; and nine grandchildren.

Burial was at the Orleans Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in White Plains, N.Y.

William Cabral, 77

Hyannis - William Cabral, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999 at the Cape Windsor Rest Home after a long illness.

Mr. Cabral is survived by three sisters, Mary Laursen of California, Ruth Carbel of New Hampshire and Barbara Pells of Hyannis; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the South Congregational Church Cemetery

George L. Chandley

Centerville - George Leo Chandley died Wednesday, Jan. 13. 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

He was the husband of Mary (Mooney) Chandley.

Born in Worcester, Mr. Chandley lived in Abington for many years before moving to Centerville in 1968. He was a graduate of Worcester High School and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, with a Ph.D and from Boston University School of Law.

Mr. Chandley was an Air Force legal officer during World War II and retired from the Air Force Reserves with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

During his working career, he had his own law practice on Milk Street in Boston until 1968 when he retired.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Wianno Club in Osterville.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, John Chandley of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to a chanty of one's choice.

John A. Drew, 75

Hyannis - John A. Drew, 75, a lifelong Hyannis resident, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1999 after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Marie E. Drew of Sarasota, Florida.

Born in Hyannis, Mr. Drew graduated from Barnstable High School in 1941. He served in the 18th Antiaircraft Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he returned to the Cape and married Pricilla Otis.

After working in the commercial construction business, he graduated from the Campbell School of Real Estate in New Bedford. In 1953 he purchased the A.H. Hall Real Estate Company and renamed the business "John A. Drew, Realtor." Over a 30-year career he built an active residential and commercial real estate business which still serves the mid-Cape area.

He served for many years on the board of directors of the Cape Cod Board of Realtors, Inc. and was one of six local Realtors who started the Cape Cod Multiple Listing Service, Inc. He served as a director of the Mass. Association of Realtors, including many state and local committees. In 1967 he was voted Realtor of the Year, and was further honored by being elected to lifetime membership by the board after his 1984 retirement.

Mr. Drew was also a vice president and director of the Hyannis Cooperative Bank for 23 years, and was associated with the New England Co-operative Bank League.

He was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis since 1941. He was also a member of the Fraternal Lodge A.F. & A.M. since 1951. He was active in the Hyannis Rotary Club for more than 20 years, maintaining perfect attendance throughout those years.

Mr. Drew had a lifelong love of sports. He played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for both the Barnstable and Osterville town teams. He coached many local teams for over 40 years. He coached hundreds of young people in the Barnstable Little League, the Barnstable Babe Ruth League and the Kennedy Memorial Youth Hockey League. In his later years, he coached Farm League Baseball in Sarasota, Florida. He was a longtime member of the Hyannis Yacht Club and an avid golfer, with memberships at the Hyannisport Club and the TPC of Prestancia, Sarasota.He also served on the Barnstable Recreation Commission for nine years.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Drew is survived by a daughter, Joan T. Kapp of Yarmouthport; a son, John Otis Drew of Centerville; a brother, William L. Drew III of Hyannis; a sister, Ethel Mae Williams of West Hyannisport; six grandchildren, and many friends.

Burial was in the West Barnstable Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 286 South Street, Hyannis, Mass. 02601; The Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St., Hyannis; Cape Cod Hospital, Park Street, Hyannis; or the American Cancer Society, 572 Main Street, W. Yarmouth 02630.

Andrew S. Fink, 53

Centerville - Andrew S. Fink, 53, of Centerville, died suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 13 of a heart attack while on a business trip in New York.

Born in Springfield, he was a National Merit Scholar and a 1963 graduate of Springfield Classical High School.

Mr. Fink attended George Washington University in Washington , D.C., and graduated from American International University in 1967.

He worked as an independent financial consultant with his offices located in Chestnut Hill and Westborough. Mr. Fink had been a former longtime resident of Newton. While living in Newton he had coached youth soccer and baseball. He enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf.

He is survived by his fiancée, Malia Kawas; two sons, Joshua and Aaron, both of Newton; and a sister, Eleanor Artbinder of Framingham.

Burial was in Newton Cemetery.

George H. Kramer, 97

Centerville - George H. Kramer, 97, a longtime Centerville resident and former sales director, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999 at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.

He was the husband of the late Elsie (Gardner) Kramer for 69 years.

Mr. Kramer was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He had worked for 53 years for Oneida LTD. of Oneida, N.Y., starting in the company's New York City sales office. He retired in 1969 as director of sales.

He had been a summer resident of Centerville since 1944, living here year-round for the past 30 years.

Mr. Kramer was a member and long-term secretary of the Centerville Library Association; a member of the finance committee; former director of the Centerville Historical Society; an elected town meeting member; and a Mason.

He was also a member of the Osterville Men's Club, the South Congregational Church, and a past president and member of the National Premium Sales Executives Association.

He is survived by three sons, Richard Kramer of Arlington, Michael Kramer of Winchester, and Kenneth Kramer of Barnstable; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in South Congregational Church, Main Street, Centerville.

Burial was in Crocker Park Cemetery, West Barnstable.

Lloyd B. Magruder, 81

Barnstable - Lloyd Burns Magruder, 81, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

He was the husband of Beatrice H. (Lowell) Magruder since 1941.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mr. Magruder lived in Barnstable year-round since 1983, where he had summered for more than 50 years.

He attended Kent School in Kent, Conn., and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1939 and received a master's degree in chemical engineering in 1940.

After a short period of employment at Esso Laboratories, Mr. Magruder was called to active duty, serving with the U.S. Army Ordnance Department at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Detroit, Mich., and Europe in technical and intelligence work. He was discharged in 1945 as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Magruder continued in the Army Reserves, serving as an instructor and then as commandant of the Wilmington, Del., U.S. Army Reserve School. He retired as colonel in 1968.

From 1945 until his retirement in 1982, Mr. Magruder was employed by the E.I. du Pont de Nemours Co. as a project engineer in the Design Division of the Central Engineering Department.

He served as an internal consultant on chemical plant design and became an expert on pressure relief systems, contributing to DuPont's outstanding reputation for safety. He and his family lived in Wilmington, Del., from 1962 to 1982.

Mr. Magruder played tennis three times a week until the day before he died. He was an active gardener, supporter of land conservation efforts on the Cape, and a member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, Barnstable Land Trust and the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts. He was also a former chieftain of the American Clan Gregor Society.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Samuel H.S. Magruder of Newton; two daughters, M. Blue Magruder-Hurwitch of Cambridge and Sarah Bean Magruder-Wardman of New York City; and four grandchildren, all of whom summer in Barnstable.

Memorial donations may be made to the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, 90 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563.

Katherine O'Neill, 97

Marstons Mills - Katherine O'Neill, 97, formerly of New London, Conn., died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

She was the wife of the late Lt. James F. O'Neill.

Born in Stockport, N.Y., Mrs. O'Neill worked for New England Telephone Co. as a telephone operator and supervisor in New London, Conn., and on the Cape. She retired in 1964.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Daniel O'Neill of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

She was also the mother of the late James F. O'Neill and Bernard V. O'Neill.

Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New London, Conn.
