Michael H. Bogen, 48

Hyannis - Michael H. Bogen, 48, died in his Barnstable home Sunday, May 30, 1999 after a long illness.

He was the husband of Johanna (Gaglio) Bogen.

Born in Newton, he was educated in the Newton schools and attended the University of Virginia.

Mr. Bogen worked for many years in men's haberdashery in New York and Boston. During the past 10 years, he worked for Green Mountain Coffee and Seattle's Best Coffee, where he won the Wickberg Award and was named to the President's Club after placing in the top three nationally in sales performance.

He was an avid sail plane enthusiast and an active member of the Greater Boston Soaring Association, the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association and the Minden, Nev., Soaring Association. The highlight of his 15-year passion for the sport was when he soared on a thermal wave at 30,000 feet over Nevada.

He was also interested in reading, bicycling, theater and fine food and wine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Libbie Bogen of Chestnut Hill; a sister, Penny Lewis of Cummaquid; and three nieces.

Mildred C. Buckley, 83

Hyannis - Mildred Constance Norton Buckley, 83, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at Hospice House in Barnstable.

Mrs. Buckley was born in Hyde Park in Boston. In 1960, as a grandmother, she graduated from the nursing school at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. Mrs. Buckley is survived by a son, Francis E. Buckley of Louisville, Ky.; and two brothers, Ralph A. Norton and Francis C. Norton, both of Cummaquid.

Burial was in the Cummaquid Cemetery on Mary Dunn Road.

Donald A. Chase, 71

Hyannis - Donald A. Chase, 71, a lifelong Hyannis resident and 42-year employee of Cape Cod Bank & Trust, died Thursday, May 27, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyanms.

He was the husband of Marilyn (Fish) Chase.

Born and raised in Hyanms, he was educated in the Barnstable school system. He then attended Burdett College in Boston.

Mr. Chase was a Marine Corp. veteran, serving in both the Korean War and in World War II, where he was stationed in China.

He was employed by Cape Cod Bank & Trust for 42 years before retiring in 1990 as senior vice president.

Mr. Chase was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Hyannisport Golf Club, where he was treasurer. He was a member of the by-law committee of the Hyannis Fire Department, the Barnstable police Building Committee and the Town of Barnstable Finance Committee. He. was also treasurer for several youth groups in Barnstable.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey A. Chase of Osterville; two daughters, Carol Chase Harlow of Centerville and Betsy Chase Alper of Hyannis; his mother, Daphne (Robinson) Chase of Hyannis; two brothers, Benjamin Chase of Centerville and Robert Chase of Sarasota, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hyannis Rescue Squad, 95 High School Road Ext., Hyannis, MA 02601.

George P. Duclos, 76

Cotuit - George P. Duclos, 76, a retired lieutenant of the Boston Fire Department, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Margaret J. (Devlin) Duclos.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, Mr. Duclos lived in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School. He was a summer resident of Hull for 35 years and moved to Cotuit in 1984 from Roslindale.

Mr. Duclos was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater and the North Atlantic. He spent a year with the Navy in the Occupation of Japan after the war before returning home to Roslindale.

Upon returning to Roslindale, he joined the Fire Department, where he was a lieutenant of the Boston Fire Department, Ladder 6, Engine 16. He retired in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the fire/drill team with the Boston Fire

Department and past commander of the Florcan Association, Death & Welfare Local 7 18.

Mr. Duclos was a communicant of Christ the King Church, where he was also an usher and member of the Men's Club. He enjoyed golf and woodworking.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Stephen Duclos of Hull and George Duclos of Hanson; three daughters, Margaret Santos of Maui, Hawaii, Annette Duclos of Cambridge and Denise Rooney of Hull; 11 grandchildren; and a great- granddaughter.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Christ the King Church, Mashpee Commons, Mashpee. Burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society; or Building Fund of Christ the King Parish, Box 1800, Mashpee, MA 02649.

George R. Hoyer, 62

Centerville - George R. Hoyer, 62, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 29, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Sylvia (Gowans) Boyer.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Boyer was educated in New York schools and attended the Manhattan School of Aviation Trades.

He served in the Air Force and later worked as a pilot-mechanic for the New York Department of Aviation, ECON Division. He retired in 1994 and, in 1996, moved from his home in Latham, N.Y. to Centerville.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hoyer is survived by four daughters, Tracy L Barter of Brunswick, N.Y., Julie A. Corrigan of Saratoga, N.Y., and Carrie E. Hoyer and Cindy L. Hoyer, both of Boston; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 105 Eastern Ave., Dedham, MA 02026.

Rev. Kenneth B. Murphy, 78

West Hyannisport - The Rev. Kenneth B. Murphy, 78, a retired pastor, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at his home after a long illness.

Born in Roxbury, he was raised in Roslindale. He was a 1939 graduate of Boston English High School, graduated from St. John's Seminary in 1946 and was ordained in 1946 by the late Archbishop Richard J. Cushing.

His first assignment was at St. Patrick's in Lowell from 1946 to 1947. From 1947 to 1949, St. Jerome's in North Weymouth; 1949 to 1971, St. Francis de Sales in Charlestown.

The Rev. Murphy was appointed pastor of St. Vincent de Paul in South Boston in 1971 and served until 1973 when he was appointed pastor of Holy Name Church, West Roxbury, until retiring in 1996. He rounded Rescue Inc., a suicide prevention program, in 1959.

A member of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3049, West Roxbury and Fourth Degree Father McGivney Assembly, West Roxbury, and state chaplain emeritus of the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by a brother, R. Leo Murphy of Tampa, Fla.

A concelebrated funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury. Burial followed in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.

Helen M. Smets, 79

Barnstable - Helen Mary (Wallace) Smets, 79, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 29, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community­Pavilion.

She was the wife of Donald M. Smets.

Born in Malden, she graduated from Braintree High School and attended Bryant College and VonLauder School of Design. She moved from Hillsdale, N.J., to Barnstable in 1987.

Mrs. Smets worked as a secretary in the office of the speaker of the house at the Massachusetts Statehonse for 10 years.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Mark Smets of Amherst, N.H., and Brian Smets of Hollis, N.H.; two daughters, Paula Gallant of Taunton and Kristin Zahn of Bayville, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.

Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Mary Ann Snyder, 63

Hyannis - Mary Ann (Blondheim) Snyder, 63, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at her home after a brief illness.

A talented pianist, Mrs. Snyder frequently volunteered her time playing piano at many local nursing and retirement homes. She also enjoyed sketching and walking the beach.

Mrs. Snyder is survived by many friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mid-Cape Residential Program, 47 Cedar St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Francis M. Wagner, 59

Centerville - Francis M. (Laborites) Wagner, 59, a former businesswoman and real estate broker, died Friday, May 28, 1999 at the Cape Regency Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born in Detroit, raised in New Orleans and educated in Sewanee, Tenn.

Mrs. Wagner moved to Centerville in 1963 and graduated from the Lee Institute of Realty.

She was a member of the Woman's Club of Hyannis and St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable. She enjoyed photography and being a homemaker.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by a son, Joseph Lovecchio of Hyannis; two daughters, Lillian R. (Lovecchio) Krajenka of Derry, N.H., and Xanthe E. Laborites of Boston; three brothers, William C. Woods of Baton Rouge, La, Richard Woods of Reserve, La., and Frederick Woods of Pensacola, Fla.; and one sister, Carol Bass of Kileen, Texas .

Mary M. Welch, 96

Centerville - Mary M. Welch, 96, formerly of West Hyannisport, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.

Born in Taunton, she was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. She lived in New York City from 1935 to 1973, where she directed Public Relations for The Elizabeth Arden Co.

She retired in 1973 to West Hyannisport and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.

Burial was in the South Boxboro Christian Cemetery.

Juanita S. Glasscock, 62

Marstons Mills - Juanita S. (Green) Glasscock. 62, died Tuesday, June 2, 1999 at her home after a long illness.

Born in Tupelo, Okla., she was raised and educated in Oklahoma City, where she graduated from Capital Hill High School.

Mrs. Glasscock married and began her family shortly after high school. She was a homemaker most of the time and lived in the Oklahoma City area and in North Dakota.

In 1992, she moved to Marstons Mills from Davis, Okla.

She enjoyed crocheting.

Surviving are three daughters, Catherine Schefter and Jan Denise Ruud, both of Langdon, N.D., and Dianne Lynn Stitt of North Carolina; her mother, Geneva Wood of Marstons Mills; a sister, Linda Michaelson of Marstons Mills; a brother, Ronald Green of Pilot Point, Texas ; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
