Eric T. Starck, 31

Sandwich - Eric T. Starck, 31, formerly of Centerville, died July 5, 1999 at the New England Medical Center in Boston from complications following a bone marrow transplant in May.

He was the husband of Jodi (Civilinski) Starck and son of Robert and Antonia Starck of Centerville and Lynda and John Drasnitski of East Hampton, Conn.

Born in Hartford, Conn., Mr. Starck was raised in Barnstable and Bourne, graduating from Bourne High School in 1986. During his senior year, Mr. Starck was class president and captain of the football team. He also graduated cum laude from Union College in 1990 and was president of the local chapter of Theta Delta Chi.

He began his professional career with CIGNA insurance befor going to work for The TPA in Boston where he worked until his death.

After his marriage in 1991 he and his wife moved to Sandwich. He was very active in the ECHO youth ministry at Corpus Christi Parish and coached Pop Warner football.

Mr. Starck was also a very active member of the Corpus Christi Parish, an avid sports fan and enjoyed camping, hiking, boating and all outdoor activities.

He and his wife were active in the Wide Horizons Adoption Agency.

Surviving besides his wife and parents are two sons, Jacob and Zachary Starck, both of Sandwich; five sisters, Debra Caldera of Kingston, Heather Caldera of Huntington, Vt., Brey Krasnitski of East Hampton, Conn., Erin Starck of Centerville and Kristin Wilson of Plymouth; a brother, Todd Krasnitski of Quincy; and his grandmother, Eleanor Starck of Centerville.

He leaves with fond and loving memories of his grandfather, Robert Starck, formerly of Centerville, who died in 1985.

Mr. Starck is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burial was in the Sandwich Town Cemetery.

Edward A. Zink Sr., 85

Hyannis - Edward A. Zink Sr., 85, died Sunday, July 11, 1999 at Greenery Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Ethel I. (Ringer) Zink.

Mr. Zink was born in Somerville and raised and educated in Medford. He was a graduate of Medford High School.

He lived in Melrose and was employed as an electrician for the Boston Naval Shipyard, until retiring in 1969. He then moved to Hyannis and worked for the Barnstable Bus Company for many years.

Mr. Zink was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. He was a former vice president of the Barnstable Council on Aging. He was a member of the Hyannis Elks Lodge 1549; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and Irish American Club of Cape Cod.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward A. Zink Jr. of Yarmouth, Maine; two daughters, Joyce Mahan of Hyannis and Barbara Whitman of Reading; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.

John E. Barnard Jr., 81

Marstons Mills - John E. Barnard Jr., 81, a well-known architect, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Barbara (Wood) Barnard for 33 years.

Born in Newton, Mr. Barnard was educated at Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Boston Architectural Center.

He served in World War II with Navy construction battalions in the South Pacific.

Mr. Barnard joined his father's architectural firm in 1945 and designed numerous homes, churches and municipal buildings throughout the Cape as well as in the metropolitan Boston area.

He was also an early proponent of ecological architecture through the design of underground homes. Examples of his work can be found throughout the country.

Mr. Barnard retired in 1994. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects.

Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Barbara Barnard, Joanna Browne of Cary, N.C., Karla Mattern of Memphis, Tenn., and Holly Sawyers of Framingham; two stepchildren, Bruce Briggs of Albany, N.Y., and Dana Briggs of Sandwich; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.

Linda Carton, 58

Fort Myers, Fla. - Linda (Barthlomew) Carton, 58, formerly of Centerville, died Monday, July 26, 1999 at her home in Florida.

She was the wife of the late James Carton.

Mrs. Carton was born and educated in Westwood, Mass., and attended Boston University.

She was a resident of Centerville from 1968 to 1994 when she moved to Fort Myers.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Kenney of Forestdale; two sons, Karl Carton of Naples and Michael Carton of Marstons Mills; a sister, Nancy Bolles of Wellesley, Mass.: two brothers, Frederick Barthlomew of Framingham, Mass., and Delvan Barthlomew of Corpus Christi, Texas ; her friend, George Balko of Fort Myers; and six grandchildren.

Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.

John R. 'Bob' Shinn, 82

Haslett, Mich. - John Robert "Bob" Shinn, 82, died Sunday, July 25, 1999 with his family by his side after a brief illness while vacationing at an annual family get-together at his son's home in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Clara Shinn for 56 years.

Born in Warsaw, Ind., Mr. Shinn graduated from Purdue University in 1939. After working for a time in Lafayette, Ind., and Peoria, Ill., where he worked for a local radio station writing commercials, he served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne, European Campaign during World War II.

He was a lifelong writer in various mediums, having retired from Michigan State University's Highway Traffic Safety Center in 1982.

During his career, he was involved with various writing projects for radio and television as well as for the Michigan State Police.

Mr. Shinn was an avid race car fan, but in retirement, his failing eyesight limited his attendance at those activities. However, he listened to every race he was able to get on radio or television.

He was a member of Haslett Community Church.

Surviving besides his wife are five children, Jackie Harkness of Laingsburg, Richard Shinn of Hyannis, Dennis Shinn of Grand Ledge, Pam Shinn of Haslett and Sandra Nakasone of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several grandchildren.

Leland H. Jackson, 72

Centerville - Leland H. Jackson, 72, a former home builder, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999 at the Hospice House in Barnstable.

He was the husband of Irene (Nickerson) Jackson.

Born in Everett, Mr. Jackson was educated in New Brunswick, Canada. He was a longtime resident of Wilmington before moving to Centerville 12 years ago.

Mr. Jackson was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Constabulary Police Border patrol on the Czechoslovakia-Germany border.

A home builder in Wilmington, he built a number of homes in the area for four decades from the 1950s to 1980s.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club in Wilmington.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Leland H. Jackson Jr. and Daniel J. Jackson, both of Wilmington, and James H. Jackson of Bristol, N.H.; a daughter, Marsha A. White of Lynnfield; four brothers, Lionel Jackson of Wilmington, Arnold Jackson of California, Wendell Jackson and Eugene Jackson, both of Canada; a sister, Lois Jackson of Wilmington; and stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Joyce C. Jackson.

Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Centerville.

Mary M. Lamb, 86

Hyannis - Mary M. (Barry) Lamb, 86, died Friday, August 13, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of the late John T. Lamb.

Raised in South Boston, Mrs. Lamb lived in Hyannis for 35 years. She wintered in Hollywood, Fla., with her siblings and was active in the Irish Club there.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn A. Keohan of Hingham; a sister, Helen Tubridy of Hollywood, Fla; a brother, Edmund Barry of Hollywood, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Burial was private.

Mark C. McCray, 48

Hyannis - Mark C. McCray, 48, died Monday, August 9, 1999 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Manor in Hyannis after a long illness.

Born in Hyannis, Mr. McCray was a graduate of Orleans High School. He was a longtime resident of Florida before moving back to Orleans in late 1996.

He was a career car salesman in Florida.

An avid outdoorsman and baseball fan, he enjoyed the sun and beach.

He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Stephanie Jackson of West Yarmouth; two sons, Brendan McCray and Christopher McCray, both of Orleans; two daughters, Kristin Howard of Delray Beach, Fla., and Amanda Dennison of Seattle; and his father, William W. Scott of Orleans.

Patrick T. McGee

Hyannis - Patrick Thomas McGee, a resident of Hyannis for more than 15 years, died Thursday, August 12, 1999 at the Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.

He was the husband of Joanne (Forrette) McGee since 1987.

Born and raised in New Bedford, Mr. McGee received an associate's degree in science from Bristol Community College.

Mr. McGee moved to Hyannis in 1984 and worked for Nauset Inc. as assistant director of production.

He was an avid sailor who enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents, Thomas and Grace (Jupin) McGee of Mattapoisett; a brother, Douglas McGee of Sandwich; and three nephews and a niece.

Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville.
