John A. MacPhelemy
April 19, 2002

John A. MacPhelemy, of Abington, April 19, 2002, age 71. He leaves his wife, Lucille R. (Roberts) MacPhelemy of Abington; a son, John MacPhelemy Jr. of Bridgewater, and five daughters, Nancy Austin of Abington, Terri Franey of Carver, Jane Tilley of Abington, Patti Beebe of Whitman and Geraldine LaBreck of Hull; three sisters, Mildred Young of Rockland, Barbara Olson and Phyllis Schlager, both of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Mr. MacPhelemy, a lifelong resident of Abington, died at Sunbridge of Weymouth Nursing Home of Weymouth following a brief illness.

He was born in Weymouth, son of the late Harold T. and Vera M. (Blanchard) MacPhelemy. He graduated from Abington High School.

He was employed as a maintenance foreman for Hendrie’s Ice Cream for more than 42 years prior to his retirement in 1992. Mr. MacPhelemy was a member of the Seventy Two’s Club of Abington and the Abington Senior Citizens.

A funeral service was held on April 22, at the United Church of Christ in Abington. Interment was in the family plot at Blue Hills cemetery in Braintree.

Edward J. Curran

Edward J. Curran, of Abington, April 5, 2002, age 75. Survived by wife of 52 years, Lillian L (Sheehan) Curran of Abington. Devoted father of Kathleen Roman of Whitman, Edward J. Jr. of Marshfield, Theresa M. Minnehan of Abington, Carolyn Robison of Raynham and Mary Ann Dann of Abington. Also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Laurie and Daniel Roman of Whitman, Edward J 3rd, Brianne and Jillian Curran of Marshfield, Michael, Brian and Bridget Minnehan of Abington, Shaun, Stephen, Kenneth, Jeremy, Jeffrey and Nicole Robison of Raynham. Brother of Raymond Curran of Dorchester, Eileen Delaney of Dorchester and the late Walter B. Curran and Claire Conley.

Edward served as the former chairman of the Abington Planning Board and was a former member of the Abington Zoning Board. He was a third degree member of the Abington Knights of Columbus Council #5254. Graduating from Dorchester High School, he also received his collegiate degree from Boston College. (Class of 1949) Edward was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Engineering and Maintenance of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority from July 1949 – April 1991, an over fifty year member of IBEW Local 104.

A funeral was held from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Monday, April 8 at 8:00 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church in Abington at 9:00 A.M.. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 7 from 4 – 8 P.M.. Friends wishing, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of South Shore, P.O. Box 9060, Braintree, MA 02184.

Anna R. (Brunnick) Yurek
April 02, 2002

Anna R. (Brunnick) Yurek, of Abington, age 88. Daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Hogan) Brunnick. Wife of the late Louis Yurek. Mother of Louis Yurek of Norton, Richard Yurek of Wilmington, Mary Yurek and Patricia Shea, both of Abington. Sister of Mary Connolly of Randolph. Also survived by twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Anna was a resident of Abington the past 21 years, formerly of South Boston. She passed away at home following a long illness. Anna enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family. Prior to retirement, she was a baker for New England Tell and Tell in Boston.

A funeral was held from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Friday, April 5 at 8:00 A.M.. A Funeral Mass followed in St. Bridget’s Church at 9:00 A.M.. Edna R. (Raples) Wayne

Edna R. (Raples) Wayne, of Abington, May 1, 2002, age 78. Wife of Paul H. Wayne of Abington. Mother of Thomas P. and David R. Wayne, both of Abington, Janet R. Crosby of Bridgewater and Dr. Richard R. Wayne of New York. Sister of Edward Mack of Quincy, John Raples of Rockland and Joan Sienczyk of Dorchester and the late Jennie Nadonly and Ruth Raples. Three Grandchildren: David J. Wayne of Kingston, Paul and Emily Crosby of Bridgewater.

Edna, a life long resident of Abington, was a 1941 graduate of Abington High School. In her early years she worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone. Later she worked as a clerk for the former Atlantic Card Company of North Abington. Edna was a member of St. Bridget's Church in Abington, and a former member of the Ladies' Sodality of St. Bridget's.

A Funeral was held from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Saturday, May 4 at 8:00 A.M.. A Funeral Mass followed in St. Bridget’s Church at 9:00 A.M.. Remembrances may be sent to Old Colony Hospice, In Memory of Edna R. Wayne, 14 Page Terrace, Stoughton, MA 02072.

Elyn A. (Kant) Stord
March 30, 2002

Elyn A. (Kant) Stord, of Abington, March 30, 2002, age 76. Wife of Richard A. Stord of Abington. Mother of Kenneth R. Stord of Abington, Theresa A. Stord of Whitman, Timothy K. Stord of Brockton and Cynthia J. Devereaux of Brockton. Sister of Jayne Skelly of Falmouth, Nancy Laikos of New Hampshire, Barbara Browning of Lunenburg, MA and Linda Kant of Quincy. Survived by five grandchildren.

A graduate of Watertown High School and State College in Pennsylvania, Elyn lived in Abington for 40 years. She was an administrative assistant for 23 years for the Ark/Les Corporation in Stoughton. Elyn retired in January 2002. She was a member of the Viking Club in Braintree.

Michael "Mike" R. Danaitis
May 14, 2002

Michael “Mike” R. Danaitis, of Abington, May 14, 2002, age 60. Husband of Constance “Connie” A. (Cronin) Danaitis of Abington. Father of Christine M. and son-in-law Robert Lennox of Abington, Kimberly and son-in-law Anthony DeAfonseca of Brockton and Michael R. Danaitis Jr. of Abington. Son of Mary (Nisby) Danaitis of Brockton, brother of Sheila Danaitis of Brockton and Karen Slater of Easton. Four grandchildren: Brenda and Alec DeAfonseca of Brockton, Robert and Jason Lennox of Abington.

Michael was a resident of Abington the past 36 years, formerly of Brockton. He passed away at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Michael was the former co-owner and founder of Mike's & Dave's Barber Shop in North Abington. In addition to being a barber, he also had many other entrepreneurial businesses over the years. Currently for the past seven years, he has been self-employed as owner of Danaitis Trucking Co. in Carver. Michael was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Abington. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, "Connie" and his many friends.

William G. Nicholson

William G. Nicholson, of Abington, May 8, 2002, age 55. Husband of Patricia A. (McNamara) Nicholson of Abington. Father of William B. of Hanson and Jeffrey S. Nicholson of Whitman. Brother of Margaret Ehst of Vermont, Thomas S. Nicholson of Rockland and Richard P. Nicholson of Acushnet. Also survived by four grandchildren.

At one time, William was self-employed as a trucker, traveling across country. Prior to his retirement, he worked in Electrical Sales for Ralph Pill Electric Supplies in East Bridgewater. He was an avid bowler and golfer. A lifelong resident of Abington, William was a member of the Abington Polish Club.

A funeral was held from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 A.M.. A Funeral Mass followed in St. Bridget’s Church at 9:00 A.M.. Elinor C. Judge

Elinor C. (Fitzgerald) Judge of Brockton, formerly of Abington, age 91, passed away on Monday, April 5 at the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton, following a long illness. Beloved sister of Robert Fitzgerald of Taunton and the late John H. Fitzgerald, Paul F. Fitzgerald, Edwin H. Fitzgerald, and dear friend Daniel Delaney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Born in Abington, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine C. (McPhillips) Fitzgerald. She was a graduate of Abington High School Class of 1930 and Bryant Business School. For the past thirty years she has been a resident of Brockton.

Elinor worked as a secretary for E.T. Wright Shoe in Rockland, Wood’s Hole Steamship Company in Falmouth, Rockland Trust Company and her last job was Pan Am Airlines in Boston.

She was a past member of the Abington V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 5737, a former member of the Silver Head Legislator (State House) and former member of St. Bridget’s Church in Abington.

A funeral service will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School) ABINGTON on Thursday April 8, at 11:30 am.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am prior to service. (Thursday, April 8, 2004)

Craig W. Ryder
April 05, 2004

Craig W. Ryder, age 56, resident of Hingham the past six months, formerly of Quincy and Roslindale, passed away on Monday, April 5th at the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital following a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Sharon A. (Burke) Ryder of Hingham; son, Justin Ryder of Las Vegas; daughter, Alexa Ryder of Weymouth; and one granddaughter, Maya Ryder of Las Vegas. Also survived by two brothers, Thomas Ryder of Hingham and Mark Ryder of Braintree; and one sister, Colette Daunais of Florida. He leaves many nieces and nephews.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas Sr. and Rose (Carrier) Ryder. He was a graduate of Dorchester High School.

Self-employed at Ryder Painting, he worked as a professional painter in the South Shore area.

Craig loved his family and enjoyed golf. He served in the Vietnam War in the Navy from 1968 - 1970.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School), ABINGTON, on Thursday, April 8, at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Blessing in St. Albert the Great Church, 1140 Washington Street (Route 53), East Weymouth, at 9:00 a.m. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, family requests that expressions of sympathy be sent to the American Heart Association, In Memory of Craig W. Ryder, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday (April 7, 2004) from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Harriet Donovan

Harriet Donovan, 88 of Abington, died after a sudden illness on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Naples Community Hospital in Florida.

Born in Malden, Mrs. Donovan was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna (Fitman) Anderson.

She graduated from Rockland High School in 1932 and worked in the guidance department as a Secretary for the Abington High School for 15 years. She has lived in Abington for the past 60 years.

Mrs. Donovan was a member of the St. Bridget’s Guild and a member of the Abington Senior Citizens.

She was the loving wife of the late Jack P. Donovan; loving mother of Pat Donovan of Bridgewater, Thomas Donovan of Harwich, Mary Jane Cranston of Virginia, and the late Sharon Rubery; loving grandmother of Kevin, Amy, Mark, Colleen, Paul, Michael, Jeffrey, and Patrick.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street (Just off Rte. 58 near North School) Abington Wednesday March 17 at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Bridget’s Church Abington at 9 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland.

Hulda "Peggy" (Schofield) Joyce

Hulda M. “Peggy” (Schofield) Joyce, 77 of Abington, a homemaker, passed away Monday March 8 th at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater.

Mrs. Joyce was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. She lived in Quincy before moving to Abington 20 years ago.

Mrs. Joyce was the loving wife of the late Lawrence J. “Larry” Joyce; loving mother of Mary Anne Tobin of Merrimack NH; loving sister of Marion Delapiano of Cambridge, Joan Dixon of Peabody, Charles “Butch” Schofield of Somerville and the late Richard and Barbara; loving grandmother of Kevin, Alysia, and Daniel Tobin; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary I. (Carey) Paster of Plymouth, formerly of Abington, died Sunday March 7th at the Northeast Specialty Hospital in Braintree.

Mrs. Paster worked for Carey’s Bus Co. in Whitman. She also worked as a teller for Quincy Savings Bank in Hanover and owned and operated a flower shop in Newton.

Mrs. Paster enjoyed traveling.

Born in Brockton, she was raised and educated in Whitman. She graduated from Whitman High School and attened Framingham State College.

She lived in Abington before moving to Plymouth 16 years ago.

Mrs. Paster was the loving wife of Walter Paster of Plymouth, formerly of Abington; loving mother of Ann Casey of Halifax, Carey Paster of Hanover, Susan Healy of Kingston, David Paster of Raynham, and Marie Lowre of Sutton; loving grandmother to Thomas F. Healy V and James M. Healy both of Kingston, Sean P. Casey and Delia A. Casey both of Halifax, Caroline E. Paster of Hanover, and Antoinette Lowre of Sutton; loving sister of the late Fred J. Carey and Paul M. Carey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews
