Kenneth A. Washington , 66

Los Angeles, Calif. - Kenneth A. Washington , 66, a native of Cape Cod, died Oct. 24, 2000, in California.

Born and raised in Hyannis, he was a 1951 graduate of Barnstable High School. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance in 1959 from Bryant College, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Nu fraternity.

Mr. Washington enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the Mediterranean.

He was employed by the H.A.S.S. Corp. as an accountant, where he went on to become the operations manager before retiring in 1988. He had been a resident of Los Angeles for 40 years.

He enjoyed the company of family and friends. He loved traveling, cooking, his dogs Charlie and Maude and his cats Sabado and Babushka.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Hyannis.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Sandra A. Brillant, 54

Buzzards Bay - Sandra Ann Brillant, 54, a homemaker, died Dec. 12, 2000, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Henry W. "Jay" Brillant Jr. for 20 years.

Born in Acushnet, Mrs. Brillant was raised in Marstons Mills and lived in Buzzards Bay. She was a homemaker.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother, Helen Perry of Mashpee; two sons, Joe Perry and Arnold Perry, both of Mashpee; four daughters, Valerie Perry of West Yarmouth, Sheila Perry of Hyannis, Kim Beecher of Cranston, R.I., and Laura Giangrande of Hyde Park; a sister, Ellie Gomes of Falmouth; 12 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

William R. Dowman Jr., 81

Centerville - William R. Dowman Jr., 81, a Cape resident since 1974, died Dec. 10, 2000, at his home.

He was the husband of Alice E. (Millen) Dowman.

Born in Arlington, Mr. Dowman was a graduate of Sharon High School and served in the Army during World War II in the European theater.

He worked for the Boston Globe for 28 years as a commercial artist until retiring in 1981 and was a member of the Boston Globe's Quarter-Century Club.

Mr. Dowman and his wife moved to the Cape from Waltham in 1974. They lived in South Yarmouth, West Barnstable and most recently in Centerville.

A Mason and former Shriner, he was also a member of the Mariner Lodge in Cotuit and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis, Dennis Thomas Post.

He loved woodworking and crafts and had owned and operated Design Workshop, a woodworking business, until recently.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Stephen J. Dowman of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter, Cynthia J. Lenbergs of Franklin; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Jackson, Mich., and Marjorie Lawton of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, Cape Cod Hospital, 27 Park St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Helen A. Fehr, 92

Hyannis - Helen Anne Fehr, 92, a resident of Hyannis, died Dec. 7, 2000, at her home.

Born in Union City, N.J., she was raised in Weehawken, N.J., and attended business school in Union City. She worked for a law firm in New York City and moved to the Cape in 1975.

She enjoyed sewing and roller skating.

She is survived by a sister, Ellen T. Fehr of Osterville.

Helen Fehr will be mentioned in a Mass at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.

Warren W. Johnson Jr., 62

West Yarmouth - Warren William Johnson Jr., 62, a Cape resident since 1965, died Dec. 13, 2000, at the Windsor Nursing Home in South Yarmouth.

Born in Stoughton, Mr. Johnson lived there until moving to West Yarmouth in 1965. He worked for Interstate Theater and Hoyt Cinemas for more than 30 years.

Mr. Johnson was a longtime manager of Cinema 28 in West Yarmouth and Cape Cod Mall Cinemas. He most recently worked at Dunkin' Donuts in Hyannis and at the Cape Cod Laundry Center in South Yarmouth.

During the 1980s, he served on the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee for eight years.

Surviving are a son, Michael Johnson of Portland, Maine; two daughters, Denise Johnson of Waltham and Tina Johnson of South Yarmouth; a brother, Dennis Johnson of Stoughton; and a granddaughter.

Leo E. Kiernan, 79

Dennis - Leo Edward Kiernan, 79, a local dentist, died Dec. 11, 2000, at the Bourne Manor Extended Care Facility.

Born in Taunton, Dr. Kiernan graduated from Providence College and Tufts University. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a dentist in Roxbury for 25 years before opening his practice in Barnstable Village, where he practiced for 10 years before moving his office to Hyannis.

Surviving are three sons, Brian J. Kiernan of Malden, Garry J. Kiernan of Mendocino, Calif., and Leo Kiernan of Westfield; two daughters, Jean F. Kiernan of Belmont and Constance Masucci of Hopkinton; a brother, Donald Kiernan of Dunwoody, Ga.; his former spouse, Connie (Murphy) Peterson; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Philip E. Lewis, 88

Osterville - Philip E. Lewis, 88, died Dec. 7, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Mildred (Terhune) Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was born in Lexington and was a graduate of the Bentley School of Finance. He was a financial officer for several different companies in the Boston area and on Cape Cod.

Mr. Lewis was a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital for 22 years and was a member of the Osterville Men's Club.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, Alan Randell Lewis of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Malcolm A. 'Mal' MacDougall Jr., 83

Topsfield - Malcolm A. "Mal" MacDougall Jr., 83, a former resident of Osterville for 20 years, died Dec. 7, 2000, at Beverly Hospital.

He was the husband of Mildred "Mil" (Elliott) MacDougall for 60 years.

Born in Quincy, Mr. MacDougall was a graduate of Quincy High School and Bentley College. He married his high school sweetheart in 1940 and worked for the General Electric Co. for 40 years.

During his time with GE, he worked at the Jet Engine Division in Lynn and was the operating manager of the Major Appliance Divisions, headquartered in Detroit, for 17 years.

His employment with GE was interrupted by two years of active duty with the Seabees Division of the Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific theater, mostly in New Guinea, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 7, 1945.

During his retirement, Mr. MacDougall served as a director of the Red Cross on Cape Cod and as a trustee of the Osterville Free Library. He most recently lived in Topsfield.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert E. MacDougall of Andover and James M. MacDougall of Ipswich; a brother, Howard MacDougall of Quincy; a sister, Jean Chinzi of Braintree; and five grandchildren.

Frances L. Paron, 68

Hyannis - Frances L. (Padula) Paron, 68, a longtime resident of Hyannis, died Dec. 14, 2000, at Falmouth Hospital after an illness.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, she settled in the Boston area before moving to Hyannis in the late 1950s.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Hyannis.

Surviving are two sons, Edward of Marstons Mills and Michael of South Yarmouth; two daughters, Denise Crocker and Deborah Paron, both of Methuen; seven grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew.

Arthur L. Phillips, 90

Cotuit - Arthur L. Phillips, 90, a longtime Cotuit resident, died Dec. 16, 2000, at Newton-Wellesley Alzheimer's Center in Wellesley.

He was the husband of the late Jessie (West). Rowena.

Born on Oak Bluffs, Mr. Phillips graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School in 1928. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. Phillips was an electrician with the Electrical Workers Union in New Bedford. He retired in 1978.

A resident of Cotuit since 1940, Mr. Phillips was a member of the Cotuit Federated Church and many committees. He and his wife founded the first youth group at the church.

Surviving are a son, Richard L. Phillips of Conroe, Tex.; four daughters, Marjorie Drew of Newton, Linda Minerd of West Newton, Jessie Rowena Bradshaw of Bisbee, Ariz., and Gwendolyn Phillips of Cotuit; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Louise Andrews Pillsbury, 81

Craigville - Louise Andrews Pillsbury, 81, resident of Craigville, died Dec. 9, 2000, after a brief illness with cancer, at her son's house in Newington, Conn.

She was the wife of the late Rev. Leonard H. Pillsbury.

Born in Cambridge, Mrs. Pillsbury attended Newton High School, Framingham Teacher's College and later received a master's degree in education.

She taught elementary school for many years in Pittsford, N.Y., and Wolcott, Conn., before retiring to the Cape with her husband.

Surviving are two sons, David of Newington, Conn., and Stephen of Avon, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Cape Cod at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy M. Rielly, 86

Barnstable - Dorothy M. (Jones) Rielly, 86, a resident of Barnstable, died Dec. 10, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of John J. Rielly for 70 years.

Born and raised in Adams, Mrs. Rielly spent her early years in Boston, where she was both a Sunday School teacher and superintendent of church school. Her family was very active in the Salvation Army. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano.

Her adult life on the Cape was a quiet one, spent doing what she liked. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she and her husband were never seen apart.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, John R. Rielly of Mashpee; two daughters, Judith A. Cahoon of Centerville and Dorothy Joan Dunnells of Fort Mills, S.C.; a sister, Gladys Palmer of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Carl Sonderegger, 88

Cotuit - Carl Sonderegger, 88, a resident of Cotuit, died Dec. 10, 2000, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth.

He was the husband of Bettina (Smith) Sonderegger.

Born in Boston, Mr. Sonderegger graduated from Boston English High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Boston University School of Management.

Mr. Sonderegger worked as a cost accountant at the British Petroleum Co. in Northampton for 35 years until retiring in 1967. He and his wife then started their own public relations business, C.B.S. Associates, which they ran until 1979.

A resident of Cotuit since 1979, he had summered there for many years prior. He and his wife were married in Weymouth in 1948 and made their home in Amherst before moving to the Cape.

In recent years, he and his wife spent the winters at their home in Borrego Springs, Calif.

He enjoyed traveling, gardening and photography.

He is survived by his wife.

Florence Wozniak, 79

Osterville - Florence (Orzech) Wozniak, 79, died Dec. 11, 2000, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis.

She was the wife of Zigmond W. Wozniak, who died in 1986.

Born and raised in Chicopee Falls, Mrs. Wozniak was a resident of Longmeadow and Boston before moving to Osterville 20 years ago. She retired from Polaroid in 1982 after many years of service.

Mrs. Wozniak had an ardent love of family, and both indoor and outdoor gardening. She took part in dance and exercise activities at the Senior Center in Hyannis.

Surviving are a son, Richard Wozniak of Osterville; a daughter, Cynthia A. Reid of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Estelle A. Cardoza of Osterville; a brother, Stanley Orzech of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
