Mary A. Maddox, 87

Hyannis - Mary A. (Baker) Maddox, 87, a longtime resident of Hyannis, died March 3, 2002, after a long illness.
She was the wife of Samuel Maddox, who died in 2000.
Born in Clayton, Ala., Mrs. Maddox lived in Hyannis since 1936.
Surviving are two sons, George Maddox and Harry Maddox, both of Hyannis; a daughter, Eileen Lopes of Hyannis; a brother, William Baker of Wareham; two sisters, Myrtle Walker of Birmingham, Ala., and Grace Allen of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of Sammie L. Bailey, who died in 1999.
A funeral service was held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial followed in Oak Neck Cemetery there.

Louise Ellen Morley, 94

Centerville - Louise Ellen (Maloney) Morley, 94, a longtime resident of Natick and Wellesley, died March 3, 2002, at Cape Regency in Centerville, where she lived for the past five years.
She was the wife of the late Robert E. Morley for 35 years.
Mrs. Morley was raised in Wellesley and graduated from Wellesley High School in 1927, and Chandler School for Women in 1929. A resident of Natick since 1936, she was a social worker with the Natick Welfare Department.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.
Mrs. Morley shared her gift for writing poetry with her many friends throughout her life.
Surviving are her nephew, Albert Lynch Jr. of Darien, Conn.; and two nieces, Ellen Lapinski of West Barnstable and Ellen Doubraski of Woodhaven, N.Y.
A funeral was held at John Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills.
Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Natick.

Joseph D. O'Neill, 71

Marstons Mills - Joseph D. O'Neill, 71, a resident of Marstons Mills, died March 1, 2002.
He was the husband of Cynthia (Gordon) O'Neill.
Born and raised in Everett, Mr. O'Neill served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his discharge, he worked as a deep sea diver.
For 30 years, Mr. O'Neill worked as a kitchen designer at Wood Hu Kitchens in Hyannis before retiring in 1995. After his retirement, he made musical instruments, specializing in harps.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Hugh E. O'Neill of Marstons Mills, Jonathan T. O'Neill of Brewster and Joseph J. O'Neill of Sharon; a brother, Wilbur O'Neill of Severna Park, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
He was also the father of the late Mark B. O'Neill.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Edith A. Quigley, 95

Marstons Mills - Edith A. (Dunham) Quigley, 95, a resident of Marstons Mills and formerly of Taunton, died March 2, 2002, at Cape Cod Extended Care Community - Pavilion in Hyannis after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Quigley.
Born in Norton, she attended Taunton schools.
Mrs. Quigley was a retired licensed practical nurse at Morton Hospital and a private duty nurse.
Surviving are three sons, John R. Quigley of North Hollywood, Calif., and Richard J. Quigley and David L. Quigley, both of Marstons Mills; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held at O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery there.

David Bradford Starck, 74

West Barnstable - David Bradford Starck, 74, a resident of West Barnstable, died unexpectedly March 4, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Nancy M. (Pocius) Starck, who died in 1997.
Mr. Starck was a lifelong resident of the Cape, where he attended local schools before entering the Navy during World War II. He served for four years and was a pilot of landing craft for some of the island invasions in the Pacific. For many years, he was well known as the owner of Central Garage in Osterville.
Surviving are two sons, Peter B. Starck of Centerville and Richard A. Starck of Marstons Mills; a daughter, Karin S. Hatton of Centerville; three sisters, Jeanne Shier of Hampton, Va., Phyllis Albro Gare of Worthington and Sally Haven of Osterville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. George Palliser Tuttle, 68

Cruz Bay, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands - George Palliser Tuttle, Ph.D., 68, a resident of St. John, Auxerre, France and formerly of Centerville, died Feb. 25, 2002, at home.
He was the husband of Anne Temple Tuttle for 47 years.
A descendant of the first settlers of Massachusetts, he was born in New York City and spent his early life in Scarsdale, N.Y., and Amherst.
He was educated at The Eaglebrook School, Deerfield Academy; Middlebury College, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in 1956; and Yale University, where he received a masters of fine arts degree in 1960. In 1972, he earned a doctorate from Tufts University.
He served as a lieutenant in the Army from 1956 to 1960.
A communications and theater educator, Dr. Tuttle was an expert on English Restoration Theater. He served as the professor of theater at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.; a producer and director at WGBH, Boston; chairman of the Arts Department at Wabash College, Ind.; and as the professor of speech, communication and television at Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable from 1970 to 1996. Upon his retirement in 1996, the title of professor emeritus of Cape Cod Community College was bestowed.
During prep school and college, he was a noted thespian and member of the glee clubs, and maintained a strong tenor singing voice throughout his life. The decision to turn his skills from being an actor to directing and education came while at Middlebury, where he was mentored by the illustrious American poet laureate, Robert Frost.
Dr. Tuttle was a strong supporter of the fine arts community locally, and involved with bringing quality arts to Cape Cod, first as the director of the summer arts program at the Cape Playhouse School Theater in Dennis from 1970 to 1975, then as one of the original organizers and longtime producer of the famed Pops by the Sea summer concert. He directed the Janus Players at Cape Cod Community College during his tenure there and designed the Tilden Arts Center.
He was active on several local committees over his 47-year span in Centerville, including serving as chairman of the Barnstable School Committee.
Dr. Tuttle was the owner and president of Tuttle Travel Services, formerly based in Osterville and Hyannis.
He both lived and traveled all over the world throughout his life, from safaris to the Far East, the latter where he built business connections in printing for his catalogue of travel books for The Travelers Bookstore, a subsidiary of Tuttle Travel Services.
He retired to St. John in the winters after vacationing there for 30 years. Recently, Dr. Tuttle worked with the Chocolate Hole Association in their quest against commercial development in maintaining a preserved island.
Former club and professional affiliations included the Wianno Club, The Beach Club, Hyannis Yacht Club, Wequaquet Lake Association, St. John Yacht Club, Actors Equity, and The Metropolitan Club in New York, as well as two decades of listings in "Who's Who of American Educators."
Dr. Tuttle was also a skier, a photographer, a private airplane pilot, and an expert sailor. He enjoyed many years of sailing his wooden ketch, Macaw, on Nantucket Sound and down Maine. After his retirement from teaching, he converted a vintage 1928 Dutch canal barge, Volharding Anna, into a luxurious ship that could be chartered as a bed-and-breakfast that he captained on Europe's waterways.
He was a member of the Dutch Barge Association and a coastal skipper certified by the Royal Yachting Association, London. An avid collector of art and antiques, later in life he collected military vehicles and equipment, including Swiss Pinzgauer trucks and combat support boats.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Grant Burlingame Tuttle of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Charles Palliser Tuttle of Centerville, Brian Temple Tuttle of Manchester-by-the-Sea and William Warner Tuttle of Hyannisport; a brother, Miner Worthington Tuttle of Amherst; three daughters-in-law; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Peter's Church in Osterville.

Charles K. 'Bubba' Bergin, 90

West Barnstable - Charles K. "Bubba" Bergin, 90, a resident of West Barnstable and formerly of Lexington, died March 15, 2002 in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Eleanor (Cove) Bergin, who died in 1998. They were married for nearly 60 years.
He was a 45-year resident of Lexington, before moving to the Cape in 1984. Mr. Bergin was raised in Inman Square, Cambridge, and graduated from the Cambridge Latin High School.
Mr. Bergin volunteered at the Precinct 11 polls, the Whelden Library and was an enthusiastic supporter of Barnstable High School sports. In his career, he was an executive for the former McGowan Educator Cookie Co., before founding his own food brokerage company, Bergin-Bryant Inc. in 1961. He was a creator of the famous "Yes-Yes Cookie," and known in the business as "The Irishman with flour in his veins." He was a communicant of our Lady of Hope Chapel in West Barnstable.
An avid golfer, Mr. Bergin was a member of the Lexington and Cummaquid Golf Clubs, and spent many winters with his wife in Lake City, Fla.
Surviving are two sons, Charles K. Bergin Jr. of Longmeadow, Peter Bergin of Amherst, N.H., and his son-in-law Michael Princi of West Barnstable; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also the father of Margaret Mary "Peggy" Bergin Princi, who died in 1990.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Burial was in Crocker Park Cemetery in West Barnstable.
Memorial donations may be made to the YMCA Building Fund of Cape Cod, 2245 Iyanough Road, West Barnstable, MA 02668-1507.

Lucille L. Bragdon, 77

Hyannis - Lucille L. Bragdon, 77, a resident of Hyannis, died March 13, 2002, at her home.
She was the wife of Everett A. Bragdon, who died in 1990.
Mrs. Bragdon was born, raised and educated in Maine. She married and moved to Quincy, and then moved to Cape Cod 10 years ago.
She loved crafts, knitting, miniatures, and making doll houses.
Surviving are three sons, Russell E. Bragdon of Hyannis, Denis J. Bragdon of Holden, Maine, and Gene Paul Bragdon of Hull; a daughter, Susan Greene of Englewood, Fla.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
