Elizabeth Archer
September 14, 2000

Elizabeth (Briody) (Flannery) Archer, 83, of Beverly, died Sept. 11 at Beverly Hospital. She was the wife of the late William Flannery and also the late Clement Archer.

Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late James and Elisabeth (Maher) Briody.

Mrs. Archer was raised and educated in Beverly. She was a graduate of Beverly High School with the Class of 1934. She continued her education at Chandler School in Boston and graduated in 1936. She married William Flannery in 1950 and shared 24 years of marriage until his death in 1975. She married Clement Archer in the summer of 1981 and was widowed in the fall of the same year.

Mrs. Archer was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and also the City of Beverly for many years. She worked as a secretary for both the State of Massachusetts and the City of Beverly.

Surviving her are: a daughter; Ellen Flannery of Beverly; two sons, William Flannery and his fiance Cynthia LeBlanc both of Beverly and Leonard Flannery and his wife Joanne of Beverly; a brother; Leonard Briody and his wife Mary of Beverly; two grandchildren Ryan and Christopher Flannery both of Beverly; one brother-in-law, George Archibald of Beverly; one sister-in-law Ann Joiner of Rowley, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late James Briody Jr. and Katherine Archibald.

The funeral will be from the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly on Friday at10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beverly at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist School, 111 New Balch St., Beverly, MA 01915.

Harley W. Waite
September 14, 2000

Harley William Waite, 82, died, Sept. 8 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was the husband of Zetta (Gilman) Waite.

He was born June 2, 1918 in Benson, Vermont, the son of the late William and Babette Stott Waite.

He moved to Malden in 1949, where he lived for the next 30 years. During this time, he worked for Sim Core Product and American Aluminum in Malden as a machinist and glass blower. He went on to work at Charles River Park in Boston, performing building maintenance. He left Malden to move to Saugus, where he stayed. He was an active member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Lynnfield.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his sons Harley W. Waite Jr. of Beverly and Robert A. Waite of Danvers; his daughters Janet M. Twombley of Melrose and Carol A. Wane of Malden, and his sister Gladys Barden of Pittsfield. He was the brother of the late Grace Christian, John Waite, and Lillian Baker.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. Arrangements are by the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home.

Jessie L. Bradbury
September 14, 2000

Jessie L. (Strong) Bradbury, 94, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, died on Sept. 6 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Samuel Bradbury.

Mrs. Bradbury was born in Newfoundland, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Strong. She was a resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea for many years and was a member of the First Parish Church, Congregational, in Manchester, Amaral-Bailey Post No. 113 Auxiliary, American Legion, Liberty Rebekah Lodge, and the Church Quilting Group.

Mrs. Bradbury is survived by: a daughter, Florence A. Perkins of Wenham; two sons, Charles H. of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Elias Bradbury of Beverly; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Marjorie Littlejohn of Chelsea, Evelyn Baker of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Suzie Smith of Newfoundland, and a brother, Morley Button of Newfoundland. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 9 in the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home of Beverly. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

Mario P. Clarizia
September 14, 2000

Mario "Marty" P. Clarizia, 89, of Beverly, died Sept. 6 at his residence. He was the husband of Mary A. (Giusti) Clarizia with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in Garfield, N. J., he was the son of the late Domenic and Catherine (Ferrara) Clarizia, he had been a resident of Beverly most of his life.

Mr. Clarizia was a self-employed business man. He owned and operated several businesses in Beverly including Super X Express, Marty's Music, and the popular Marty's Restaurant. He also had extensive commercial real estate holdings in Beverly. Mr. Clarizia retired in 1976. He was a member of the Beverly Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are: three sons, Gerald, Richard, and Paul Clarizia all of Beverly; one brother, Peter Clarizia of Beverly; six grandchildren, Gerald, Mark, Lisa, Mario II, James, and John Clarizia all of Beverly; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brian, and Kaitlin Clarizia all of Beverly.

He was also the brother of the late Frank, Albert, Salvatore and William Clarizia, Elizabeth Zarella, Ann Cormier, Enis Viselli and Eva Osgood.

The funeral was held from the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly, on Sept. 12 followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Beverly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St. Danvers, MA 01923.

Pearl M. Green
September 14, 2000

Pearl M. (Fairweather) Green, 95, of Beverly, died Sept. 9 at the Herrick House in Beverly. She was the wife of George Green.

Born in Orono, Maine, she was the daughter of the late George and Annie (Smith) Fairweather. Mrs. Green was raised and educated in Somerville. She was a resident of Boston for more than 25 years. She had lived in Beverly for more than 30 years. Most recently, Mrs. Green lived at the Herrick House.

Surviving her are a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Agnes Fairweather of Bedford and several nieces and one nephew. She was the sister of the late Rina Stinson and Isabel Reidy.

Funeral services were held at the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly on Sept. 13. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Watertown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Wallace C. Haszard
September 14, 2000

Wallace C. Haszard, 73, of Beverly, died Sept. 7 in the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn (White) Haszard, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in May. He was born In Ipswich, the son of the late Roger and Ruth (Carrier) Haszard.

Mr. Haszard was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1941 and for many years was a self-employed carpenter and builder in the Hamilton, Wenham and Beverly area.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Haszard was a member of various congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses for 49 years and served a elder for 20 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons. David A. of Rowley, Jeffrey M. Haszard of Salem; two daughters, Kathleen A. Schultz of Ohio and Cynthia Wentworth of Beverly; a brother Kenneth Haszard of Florida; two sisters, Dian Lebaron of New Hampshire, Carol Matthews of Florida and five grandchildren, Richard Wentworth, Tiffany, Ryan and Aaron Haszard of Salem and Jeremy Haszard of Rowley and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sept. 10 in the Kingdom Hall in Peabody. Arrangements were by the Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund for the New Kingdom Hall of Beverly, 67 Tremont St.. Peabody, MA 01960.

Wallace Livingston
September 14, 2000

Wallace Livingston, 79, of Hamilton, died Sept. 10 in the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center-West in Boston following his long illness. He was the husband of Carol J. (Harris) Livingston, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in Stoneham, Oct. 3, 1920, the son of the late James and Lucy (Brister) Livingston. He was a graduate of Everett High School. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. As a flight engineer on B-24s and B29s, based in Guam.

married in Ipswich in 1947, the Livingstons, made their home on High Street there for several years. They moved to their present home in Hamilton in 1953.

Mr. Livingston was employed as a union mason. His most recent jobs included the restoration of many of Salem's historic building. He retired in 1986.

Following his retirement, he kept busy for the next three years working for the Town of Hamilton as the janitor. He also was employed as a musician. Since the age of 14, when he played the guitar with a western band, he has played horn with several marching bands and for years played a base fiddle with many jazz bands. He has played with musicians Bobby Hackett, Edmund Hall and Dick, Creeden and his band. His regular venues consisted of the Candlelight Club of Danvers, Village Green, Boston Yacht Club and the Jazz Fests in Newburyport and Lynch Park. He was also accomplished in the art of Japanese Bunka and the making of custom stain glass windows.

He was a member of the Boston Musicians Local 126 and the Massachusetts Brick Layers and Masons Local 3 of Boston.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son, W. Ned Livingston of Warwick, N.Y.; three daughters Carol Jane Courtney of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kathleen Blamire of Beverly, Laurie Irwin of Bridgeton, Maine; nine grandchildren Christina Blamire of Lynn, Apryl Aker of Oklahoma City, Okla., Margaret Duffy and her husband Sean of Beverly, Elizabeth Reddy of Lynn, Shawn Courtney of Oklahoma City, Ok, Robert Reddy of Bridgeton, Maine, Julianna Blamire of Orland, Maine, Mari-Carol Blamire of Beverly, Rhiannon Irwin of Bridgeton, Maine; one great-grandchild Savanna Aker of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late William Livingston, Elizabeth Morgan and Marian Madden.

Funeral services will be held on Sept. 14 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully invited.

Memorial contributions in his name, may be made to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center-West, 1 Deaconess Way, Boston, MA 02215.

Alan M. Glovsky, Accomplished artist
October 26, 2000

Alan Michael Glovsky, 49, of Accord, N.Y. died Oct. 19 at Cornell Medical Center in New York City after a 16-year battle with recurring Hodgkin's disease. He was the partner of Sylvia Benitez of Accord, N.Y.

Born in Beverly, Mr. Glovsky was the son of Natalie and Henry Glovsky of Beverly. He attended Beverly schools and graduated in 1969 from Tabor Academy. Mr. Glovsky received a B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1974 and a M.F.A. degree from Tyler School of Art in 1979. Along the way, he studied with recognized artists in the U.S. and abroad.

Mr. Glovsky's life was his art, expressed in sculpture, painting and installations. He chose to live and work in New York City where he shared his passion and life with Ms. Benitez, also a visual artist. Mr. Glovsky explored intensely personal, but universal themes such as isolation, security, anxiety and comfort, questioning what constitutes a home.

He received many honors and awards, including four fellowships from The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, N.H. and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. Mr. Glovsky's work has been shown in many New York galleries, as well as in Maine, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Nevada and overseas in England and Venezuela. His cast glass houses are currently on exhibit with Ms. Benitez's mixed media pieces at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, N.Y.

When not making art, Mr. Glovsky pursued a passion for nurturing living things, expressed mainly through gardening.

In addition to his partner and his parents, he is survived by: his brothers and their wives, John and Andrea Glovsky of Beverly and Mark Glovsky and Livia Cowan of Gloucester; a large extended family and his devoted dog, Maya.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements were by the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home of Beverly.

Barbara K. Butterworth, Worked at Gordon College
October 26, 2000

Barbara K. (Fraser) Butterworth, 75, died Oct. 20 at the Rosewood Nursing Facility. She was the wife of the late John F. Butterworth.

Born in Beverly, Mrs. Butterworth was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Gangloff) Fraser. For many years she worked in the cafeteria at Gordon College. Mrs. Butterworth lived in Beverly most of her life and was a resident of Hannah Village for over 20 years.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. Butterworth of Hamilton; daughter, Linda P. Raymond of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service was held Oct. 25 from the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home of Beverly. Burial was in North Beverly Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Mount Royal Ave., Suite 200, Marlborough, MA 01752-1960.
