Rita M. Bitsoli

Member Third Order of Mary

A Blessing for Rita M. (LaRose) Bitsoli will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2001 in the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown.

Mrs. Bitsoli was born in Watertown, on January 16, 1933, a daughter of Joseph and Rose (White) LaRose. She attended Watertown Schools and was a lifelong Watertown resident. She enjoyed arts and crafts especially ceramics. Mrs. Bitsoli was a member of the Third Order of Mary.

At the age of 66 she taught herself how to use a computer and became an accomplished Customer Service Representative at Lightbridge in Waltham. She died at her residence on Monday evening, April 9, 2001, after a long illness. She was 68 years old.

She leaves eight children: Denise Greene and her husband Robert of Watertown, Debra Consilvio and her husband James of Watertown, Thomas Bitsoli of Cumberland, R.I., Cynthia Rodrigues and her husband Edward of Sudbury, James Bitsoli and his wife Christine of Waltham, Christine A. DiRico and her husband Robert of Watertown, Paula M. Barboza and Paul M. Bitsoli both of Watertown.

She also leaves a sister, Jean Brackett of Watertown; two brothers: John LaRose of Watertown and James LaRose of West Point, Miss.; and 15 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers: Joseph LaRose and Albert LaRose; and five sisters: Rose Caloggero, Mary McDowell, Anna Vacca, Viola Grasso and Helen Bagarella.

The funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., Rte. 20, Watertown, on Thursday at 8 AM followed by a Blessing at 9 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will follow in the family lot in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.

Calling hours at the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home will be on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Mary E. Deery

100 Years Old

A Blessing for Mary E. Deery will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2001 in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown.

Ms. Deery was born in Watertown, on April 14, 1900, a daughter of John and Delia (Charles) Deery. She was a lifelong Watertown resident and a graduate of St. Patrick High School, Class of 1919.

Ms. Deery was a Medical Secretary at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston, until her retirement in 1965. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Parish, a member of St. Patrick Alumni Association and enjoyed playing the piano.

She died on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in the Emerson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Watertown, after a long illness. She would have been 101 this coming Saturday.

She leaves two nieces: Mary Hoffman Barber of Troy, NY, and Elizabeth Hoffman Tauscher and her husband William Tauscher of LaCross, Wisc.; a nephew, George H. Hoffman and his wife, Sandra Kasabian Hoffman of Watertown.

She was also predeceased by two brothers: James J. Deery and Charles F. Deery; four sisters: Elizabeth T. Deery, A. Josephine Deery, Florence A. Hoffman and Gertrude C., Deery; and two nieces: Virginia Deery and Alice Deery Mauro.

The funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Saturday at 8 AM followed by a Blessing at 9 o'clock in the Church of St. Patrick.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Eunice H. McCool

Retired Manager at Raytheon

A Blessing for Eunice H. "Tootsie: McCool will be held on Thursday, April 11, in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.

Ms. McCool was born in Boston, on May 5, 1916, a daughter of the late Hugh M. and Mary Ann (Morley) McCool. She was a lifelong Watertown resident and attended Rosary Academy and graduated from St. Patrick High School in the Class of 1934. She was active member and had served as an officer of Saint Patrick Alumni Association.

She was a 42-year employee of Raytheon Co. and had worked at the Wayland and Waltham facilities. She retired as the Manager of the Blue Print Department. Ms. McCool was a member of the Ladies Hibernians, Tomas Cardinal O'Fiaich Division 14, Watertown and of Rosary Academy Alumnae Association.

Ms. McCool enjoyed traveling, bowling, arts & crafts, charities, the Senior Citizens Choir and had taught Bible Classes. She died in the Belmont Manor Nursing Home on Sunday morning, April 8, 2001, after a long illness. She was 84 years old.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Hugh M. McCool, a sister, Mary Ann McCool, a sister-in-law, Virginia (Lopez) McCool, and a nephew, Thomas McCool.

She leaves two nephews: Richard McCool and Michael McCool both of Waltham; three nieces: Virginia McCool of Sudbury, Barbara McCool of Watertown and Mary Gullotti of Waltham, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Route 20, Watertown, on Thursday at 9:30 AM followed by a Blessing at 10:30 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main Street, Watertown. Interment will be in the family lot in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.

Douglas J. Needles, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Douglas J. Needles, Ph.D. of Waltham, a clinical psychologist, died unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest, in his home, at the age of 39.

Dr. Needles was born in Brookfield, WI and graduated from Catholic Memorial in Waukesha, WI in 1979. He attended Stanford University. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he earned a BS degree in Mathematics and Science in 1983, and a BA in Psychology in 1987. In 1987 he was awarded the prestigious Jacob Javitz fellowship fellowship and studied at the University of Wisconsin at Madison Clinical Psychology program. He obtained a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1993. He was an award winning researcher and published author in the field of recovery from depression. After completing an internship at McLean Hospital in Belmont in 1993, Dr. Needles joined the staff of McLean Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. He then entered private practice and worked at the Human Relations Service, a community mental health center in Wellesley. In recent years, in addition to his private practice, Dr. Needles was employed by Arbour Senior Care where he provided therapeutic services and touched the lives of many nursing home residents. He had resided in Cambridge from 1992-1996 then moving to Waltham.

An avid runner, reader and choral singer, Dr. Needles was also a collector of classical music and red wines. He was appreciated by all who knew him for his keen intellect, his quick wit and his kind heart. He was the devoted father of two daughters, Emma, 5, and Sophie, 3 and beloved husband of Jennifer White.

Dr. Needles leaves his wife and two children. He also leaves his mother Marlene Needles Teeter and stepfather Thomas Teeter of Hartland, WI, his father Thomas Needles and stepmother, Jeannette Kraemer of Mequon, WI, his grandfather John Moersfelder of Waukesha, WI and his brothers David of Los Angeles, CA and Brad and his wife, Debby of North Hollywood, CA, along with many extended family members and wonderful friends.

Burial will be private. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 14, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. in the DeMarneffe Building of McLean Hospital In Belmont. All friends are kindly invited. Memorial gifts may be made to the Doug Needles Scholarship Fund, c/o Justin White, 167 Berlin Rd., Bolton, MA 01740 would be appreciated.

Anne D. McGaffigan

Owner Watertown Letter Shop

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 16, 2001 for Mrs. Anne. D. McGaffigan. Mrs. McGaffigan was born in Newton a daughter of the late John W. and M. Loretta (Burke) Donnelly. She grew up in Watertown, graduating from Rosary Academy class of ’42. She then went to work in a family business, the Watertown Letter Shop formerly in Watertown Square and remained for over 50 years eventually becoming the owner - proprietor. In 1976 she moved to Stafford, PA residing until 1978 at which time she returned to the area living in Woburn and working for the former Baybank Harvard Trust in Arlington. She has been a resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea for the past 6 years. Mrs. McGaffigan died on Tuesday June 12, 2001 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at the age of 76.

She had spent her summers since her birth in Scituate and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Parish for her 76 years. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

She was the wife of the late John F. McGaffigan, Sr.; mother of Donna M. Tarr and her husband Evan F. of Manchester-by-the-Sea and John F. “Jack” McGaffigan, Jr. and his wife Patricia A. of Groton; grandmother of Elizabeth A., Kathryn F. and Margaret N. Tarr and Erin C., Moira C. and Michael D. McGaffigan. She was predeceased by her sister Mary E. Fantasia.

Margaret T. Munhall

Administrative Assistant Watertown Welfare Department

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 19, 2001 for Mrs. Margaret T. Munhall. Mrs. Munhall was born in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Spelman) Finnerty. She grew up in Waltham and was a graduate of St. Charles High School in Waltham. She had worked for over 25 years as an Administrative Assistant with the Watertown Welfare Department. Mrs. Esser had been a resident of Watertown since 1944. She died on Friday June 15, 2001 at the Emerson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Watertown at the age of 90.

She was the wife of wife of the late John H. Munhall; mother of Margaret E. Esser and her husband Frank and Janet Marie Majeau and her husband David all of Watertown; grandmother of Lynn M. Esser and Brielle T. Majeau and sister of Helen M. Hennelly of Natick, Veronica Kelly of Westwood, Paul M. and Robert K. Mahoney both of Florida and Harwich and the late James F. Mahoney.

Edmund J. O’Connell

Former Selectman & Educator

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edmund Joseph O’Connell will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 12th, 2001, in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Rte. 20, Watertown, at 10:30 AM.

Mr. O’Connell was born in Watertown, on November 2, 1920, a son of Michael L. and Mary (Quinlan) O’Connell. He graduated from St. Patrick High School, Watertown, Class of 1938, and from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Class of 1944.

He was veteran of the US Army during World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in the Ryukyu Islands campaign.

He served Watertown as a Selectman and as a member of the School Committee. Later he was appointed to the Watertown School Department and taught in the system for 20 years.

Mr. O’Connell was a member of St. Patrick Alumni Association, Boston College Alumni Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Mr. O’Connell lived most of his life in Watertown before moving to East Dennis where he lived for eleven years before moving to Wayland seven years ago. He died at his residence on Sunday morning, June 10, 2001, of heart disease. He was 80 years old.

He leaves his beloved wife of 49 years, Antoinette L. (Keefe) O’Connell; his six devoted daughters and their husbands: Karen and James DiVito of Holliston, Susan and William Fratto of Waltham, Janice and Robert Caporiccio of Waltham, MaryAnn and William LoVerme of Sudbury, Michele and Daniel Mason of San Francisco, Deborah and Edward McGuire of Sudbury.

Also twenty three loving grandchildren: Christopher, Michele, Edmund and Natalie DiVito, Michael, Mark, Matthew, and Jennifer Fratto, Beth, Jill, Katherine and Jane Caporiccio, William, Peter, Stephen and John LoVerme, Antoinette, Hannah and Marcus Mason, Patrick, Hallie, Hayden and Samuel McGuire.

Also dear brother of Margaret Hatfield of Waltham, Eileen Flynn of Watertown, Mary Monahan of Waltham, Joseph O’Connell of Waltham, Robert O’Connell of Mashpee and the late William O’Connell and Paul O’Connell. In addition many nieces and nephews survived him.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to the Mass in honor and thanksgiving of his life that will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown. Interment in the family lot in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown will be private.

Visiting will be on Tuesday morning in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street, on Route 20, Watertown, prior to the Mass from 9-10 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Parmenter Health Center, 266 Cochituate Rd., Wayland, MA. 01778.

F. Audrey Power Lee

Former Assembler at Western Electric

A Funeral Mass for F. Audrey (Miller) Power Lee will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 2001 in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown.

Mrs. Power Lee was born in Boston, a daughter of George and Mary (Nelligan) Miller. She was a graduate of Saint Patrick High School, Class of 1946 and had worked at Western Electric Company in Watertown until 1988.

She lived for many years in Watertown and for 7 years in Beverly before moving to Stoneham. She died at her residence on Tuesday afternoon, June 12th, of cancer. Mrs. Power Lee was 72 years old.

She leaves her husband, John F. Lee; five children: John M. Power of Billerica, Mary F. Foerster and her husband Carl of Vienna, VA., Joan C. Power and her companion Tom Toomey of Billerica, Christine A. Izzo and her husband Carmine of Waltham, Michael S. Power and his wife Susan of Wells, Maine; two stepsons: Jack Lee of Cambridge, Robert Lee and his wife Bunny of Framingham.

She also leaves four sisters: Helen Kelly of Waltham and Carol Miller both of Waltham, Gertrude “Trudy” Burke of Pinehurst, N.C., Cynthia Robinson of Wakefield; a brother George Miller of Melrose; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, a sister Doris Gearin, predeceased her.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 o’clock in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown.

Calling hours will be in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
