Paul W. Boyson

ARLINGTON - Paul W. Boyson, 48, formerly of Belmont, died Aug. 31, 2000, at Cambridge Hospital following an extended battle with diabetes. He was the husband of Judy L. (Pearson) Boyson. Mr. Boyson was born in Somerville and was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin, Class of 1971. He was a retired cab driver with McHugh Taxi of Watertown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Amy L. Boyson of Tewksbury and her fiancé, Nicholas Lombardo Jr.; a brother, Walter J. Boyson Jr. of Hampton, N.H.; a sister, Judith A. Quinn of Mansfield; and one grandchild. Funeral services were held Sept. 2, in the Plymouth Congregational Church in Belmont. Interment was in Belmont Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions in Mr. Boyson's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 968, Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements were under the care of the Stanton Funeral Home, Watertown.

Rose Brenner

Rose Brenner, co-founder of Nancy Sales Company of Chelsea, died Saturday, Aug. 19, just four days before her 94th birthday. A lifelong resident of Belmont, she was born in Holyoke on Aug. 23, 1906. She married the late Leo Brenner on Aug. 16, 1929, soon after she graduated from Salem Normal School and Boston University. Until she was 91 years old, she worked as bookkeeper at Nancy Sales, a successful importing business that she and her husband founded. Mrs. Brenner's greatest love was her family. She was dedicated to her four daughters, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a true matriarch who brought her extended family together in local family gatherings, and began a tradition of taking her family of 23 members on trips throughout the world. Mr. and Mrs. Brenner were founding members of the Beth El Temple in Belmont where Mrs. Brenner was a very active member. She also loved to play golf, cook, bake, play bridge, sew and knit. Mrs. Brenner is survived by three daughters, Barbara Levine of Fayetteville, N.Y., Midge Lipkin of Belmont, and Nancy Goorno of Concord; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was also mother of the late Judith Delman. Funeral services were held at Beth-El Temple Center in Belmont, followed by an interment at Sharon Memorial Park.

Margaret Boates

Margaret (Vance) (Nelson) Boates, 86, of Belmont, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000. She was the wife of the late Cecil J. Boates.

Born in Boston, she grew up in Medford. She lived in Newton and Natick before moving to Belmont in 1992. She was employed as a secretary. She was a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant in Natick and past matron of Palestine Chapter 114 and Secretary Emeritus.

Mrs. Boates is survived by a daughter, Nancy Nelson Richards of Belmont; a son, Richard Caldwell Nelson of Concord, N.H. and five grandchildren. Her sister, Agnes "Nan" Crosby, died before her.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 14, in the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St., Newton, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Belmont.

Judith K. Record

Judith Kingsley Record of Belmont died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 at Massachusetts General Hospital, as a result of injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on Saturday.

Born Judith Frey on Dec. 8, 1944 in Havre de Grace, Maryland, she grew up in Birmingham, Mich., and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1966. She married Eugene E. Record, Jr. on Jan. 1, 1984.

Mrs. Record worked in the field of financial systems. Her most recent position was vice president at SEI Investments. She retired from the company about 10 years ago to focus on her interests in land preservation.

She became a founder and president of the McLean Open Space Alliance, and also served as a Town Meeting member and a member of the Historic District Commission.

She was a trustee of the Trustees of Reservations, a statewide, nonprofit conservation and preservation organization, and a member of its Land Preservation Committee.

She pursued her love of nature in many outdoor activities, such as hiking, bicycling, cross-country and downhill skiing. She also enjoyed cooking.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, Margaret K. Frey of Greenwich, Conn. and Donald N. Frey of Evanston, Ill.; her children, Nicole Prodany of San Diego and Karla Prodany of New York City; her stepchildren, Elizabeth Record of Los Angeles, Emily Record of Boston, and Eugene E. Record III of Ahoskie, N.C.; and five siblings, Donald N. Frey Jr. of Auburn Hills, Mich., Margaret B. Walton of Flint, Mich., Catherine McNair of Newport Beach, Calif., Christopher R. Frey of Reston, Va., and Elizabeth Sullivan of Acton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. this Friday, Sept. 15, at Trinity Church in Copley Square, Boston.

The family would appreciate not receiving any cards or flowers. Instead, donations may be made to The Trustees of Reservations, 572 Essex St., Beverly, MA 01915.

Marion R. Murphy

Marion R. (Quinn) Murphy, 95, of Arlington, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the Belmont Manor Nursing Home, Belmont. She was the wife of the late Edward P. Murphy.

Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late John Quinn. She lived on Glenburn Road in Arlington for more than 60 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by two sons, Paul E. Murphy of Somerville and James V. Murphy of Belmont and Orleans; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Agnes Church in Arlington on Tuesday, Sept. 12 with interment following in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Keefe Funeral Home, Arlington.

Mary Jackson

Mary Field Jackson, 89, died Aug. 28, 2000, at the North Hill Skilled Care Facility in Needham after a long illness. She was the wife of Henry Bigelow Jackson who died in 1995 after 65 years of marriage. Born in New York City on July 28, 1911, she was the daughter of the late William and Lila (Sloane) Field. She lived in Belmont, Milton and Brookline before moving to North Hill in 1985, and spent her summers in Osterville. She was active in the Red Cross Motor Corps as a driver during World War II and volunteered for many organizations including the Milton Hospital, St. Michael's Church in Milton, Belmont Hill School and Milton Academy. Mrs. Jackson was an avid golfer, competing in many Massachusetts amateur events and winning the ladies club championship at the Wianno Club in Osterville and The Country Club in Brookline for 13 years each. She was president of the Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts. She was also an active curler and president of the United States Women's Curling Association. She is survived by two sons, Frederick W. Jackson of Marblehead and Thomas R. Jackson of Weston; two daughters, Marjorie Bard of Alexandria, Va., and Barbara Burnes of Chestnut Hill; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 379 Hammond St., Chestnut Hill, Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts Jr. Golf Scholarship Fund, 175 Highland Ave., Needham, MA 02494. Arrangements by The J.S. Waterman & Sons-Waring Funeral Home, Wellesley.

Dorothy Arone

Dorothy (Calthorpe) Arone, 87, formerly of Belmont, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. She was the wife of the late James Arone. Born in North Andover, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Blount) Calthorpe. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Arone is survived by two daughters, Louise A. Watson of Texas and Shirley Pullano of Waltham; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 15 in the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Belmont with interment following in Belmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, One Bromfield St., Boston, MA 02108.

Elizabeth R. Reilly

Elizabeth R. (Ryan) Reilly, 73, died Sept. 16, 2000, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Lexington. She was the wife of the late William J. Reilly. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and was a longtime resident of Belmont. Mrs. Reilly was a retired finance clerk for Harvard University. She is survived by four sons, Robert W. Reilly and his wife Debbie of Worthington, William D. Reilly and his wife Ann of Arlington, Michael D. Reilly and his wife Jo-Anne of Arlington, and Barry S. Reilly and his wife Julie of Belmont; two daughters, Patricia A. Shortell and her husband Michael of Burlington, and Maureen R. Vibert and her husband Steven of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Marie Cloherty. A funeral was held Sept. 20, from the Short, Williamson & Diamond Funeral Home in Belmont, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Camillus Church, Arlington. Interment was in Gethsemane Cemetery, W. Roxbury. For those who wish, contributions in Mrs. Reilly's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140, or to Hospice Care, Inc., 41 Montvale Ave., Stoneham, MA 02180.
