Cecilia M. Funk, 67

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

WORCESTER -- Cecilia M. (Eberwein) Funk, 67, formerly of Suffield Street, died yesterday at the Meadows of Leicester.

She leaves a son, Richard D. Funk of Webster; a daughter, Christine J. Yates of Worcester; two brothers, Charles Eberwein of Lakehurst, N.J. and Philip Eberwein of Arlington, N.J.; two sisters, June Mastrandrea of Portage, Mich., and Phyllis Recca of Lady Lake, Fla.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born, raised and educated in New York City, daughter of Charles and Cecilia (Davenport) Eberwein, and moved to Massachusetts in 1962, living in Paxton, Shrewsbury and then Worcester.

Mrs. Funk was an attendant at the Worcester Center Parking Garage for many years, retiring in 1991.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Concordia Lutheran Church, 86 Murray Ave. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., is directing arrangements.

Kathleen M. French, 84

HOLDEN -- Kathleen M. (Mercer) French, 84, formerly of 68 Reservoir St., a retired insurance worker, died yesterday in the Lutheran Home of Worcester after a long illness.

Her husband, Henry F. French, died in 1971. She leaves a son, the Rev. Henry F. French Jr. of Coon Rapids, Minn; two daughters, Kathleen F. Phillips of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Rosemary F. Wadnizak of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Alexander Mercer of Lecanto, Fla; a sister, Dorothea Millard of Cambria, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Born in Boston, daughter of Alexander and Katherine (Lane) Mercer, she lived in Fall River, 46 years in Holden and moved to Worcester in 1990. She graduated from Durfee High School in Fall River.

Mrs. French worked 12 years at Paul Revere Insurance Cos. in Worcester, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Women. She was a former member of the Chaffin Women's Club.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 346 Shrewsbury St., Holden, 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Veronica M. Fournier, 98

AUBURN -- Veronica M. (Barber) Fournier, 98, formerly of 60 Pinehurst Ave., died Saturday in the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Her husband, Alfred P. Fournier, died in 1981. She leaves four sons, Alfred P. Fournier Jr. of Worcester, Richard J. Fournier of Big Pine Key, Fla., Robert Fournier of Spencer and Paul Fournier of Millbrook, N.Y.; six daughters, Eleanor Blomstrom of Auburn, Virginia M. Joudrey of Brewster, Janet A. Manning of Whispering Pines, N.C., Phyllis V. Brunelle of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Ann M. Gagnon of Paso Robles, Calif., and Joan V. Cullman of Fairfield, Conn.; a brother, Damien Gauthier of Ville de Lorraine, Quebec; a sister, Mary Rose Desy of St. Therese, Quebec; 35 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Montreal, daughter of Robert and Clara (St. John) Barber, and later lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She lived here more than 70 years. She graduated from a high school in Plattsburgh.

Mrs. Fournier was a member of St. Joseph's Church. She was an ardent coin collector and bingo player.

The funeral will be held Wednesday from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Gladys Fonda, 80

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

WORCESTER -- Gladys (Speaker) Fonda, 80, of 10 Mary Scano Drive, formerly of Great Barrington, died Dec. 30 in Christopher House Nursing Home.

She leaves a son, Rev. Donald A. Fonda Jr. of Cranston, R.I.; two grandchildren, Deborah Ann Kruzel of Medford and Douw Adam Fonda of the Netherlands. She was born in West Milford, N.J., daughter of Chauncey P. and Grace M. (Van Dien) Speaker, and lived in Great Barrington for 10 years before moving here 10 years ago.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24 in Christopher House Nursing Home, 10 Mary Scano Drive. After cremation in Rural Crematory, burial will be in Cedar Heights Cemetery, Newfoundland, N.J. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of The Master, Olneyville Square, Providence, R.I., 02903. Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St., Hudson, is directing arrangements.

Marguerite Farland, 79

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Marguerite (Saulnier) Farland, 79, of 60 Charlton St., died yesterday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.

Her husband, Rosaire J. Farland, died in 1992. She leaves five sons, Edward W. and Paul G. Farland, both of Sturbridge, Gerard A. Garland Sr. of Bennington, Vt., Leo G. Farland of Norfolk, and Joseph G. Farland of Southbridge; two daughters, Pauline R. Jackson of Mattapan and Therese A. Shumway of Warren; a brother, Armand Saulnier of Southbridge; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Alyre and Rosa (Laplante) Saulnier.

Mrs. Farland was a Eucharistic minister at Notre Dame Church and a member of the church's Ladies of St. Anne.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church, 446 Main St. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pasquale M. Fanelli, 70

GARDNER -- Pasquale M. “Pat” Fanelli, 70, of 172 Manca Drive, a retired taxi dispatcher, died Sunday in the Leo P. LaChance Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Carol M. (Sauvageau) Fanelli; a son, Michael R. Fanelli of Templeton; a daughter, Debra J. Fanelli of Gardner; two grandchildren; and a niece. He was born in New Haven, Conn., son of Roy and Clara (Montemura) Fanelli. He served in the Connecticut National Guard.

Mr. Fanelli was a dispatcher 30 years for Stanley's Taxi, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Ovila Case Post 95, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Central Massachusetts, 35 Harvard St., Worcester 01609. Dufault-Boucher Funeral Home, 135 Nichols St., is directing arrangements.

Jeffrey S. Edinberg, 30

MIAMI, Fla. -- Jeffrey S. Edinberg, 30, of 7707 Camino Real, and formerly of Worcester, was shot and killed Monday night outside his apartment building. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Eleanor G. Wilson, 76

BROOKFIELD -- Eleanor G. (Wilson) Wilson, 76, of 30 Fiskdale Road, owner of Wilson Floral Garden, died Saturday, Aug. 12, at her home.

Her husband of 32 years, Robert W.J. Wilson Sr., died in 1979. She leaves four sons, Robert W.J. Jr. and Charles K. Wilson, both of Brookfield, Maurice A. Wilson of Spencer; Lester F. Wilson of Southbridge; two daughters, Karen E. Cantell and Mabel L. Pritchard, both of West Brookfield; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was born in Sackville, New Brunswick, daughter of Albert and Effa (Hicks) Wilson, and lived in Brookfield for 38 years. She was a graduate of Sackville High School and the Mount Allsion University in Sackville.

Mrs. Wilson was a department manager for the Fair in Southbridge for 10 years and the co-owner, with her husband, of Wilson Floral Garden for 27 years. She was known locally for her crafts, especially ceramics.

The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, Old West Brookfield Road. A calling hour will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Kathleen S. Duffy, 64

WEST SPRINGFIELD -- Kathleen S. “Kate” Duffy, 64, of 29 Healy St., formerly of South Weymouth and Worcester, died yesterday at home.

She leaves her husband, Paul C. Duffy; three sons, Paul C. Duffy Jr. of Westfield, Robert E. and Brian A. Duffy, both of West Springfield; two daughters, Kathleen S. Duffy of San Francisco and Maryellen Duffy Alfano of Agawam; a sister, Connie Plouffe of Hingham; 12 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Boston and lived in South Weymouth and Worcester before moving here in 1957. She graduated from Hingham High School.

Mrs. Duffy worked at Baystate Medical Center for many years. She previously worked at the Crest Room for many years.

She was a former member of St. Thomas Women's Club and the board of the Council of Aging.

The funeral will be held Friday from Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Springfield Agawam Open Pantry, 1023 Main St.; or to Brightside, 2112 Riverdale Road, both West Springfield, 01089.

Lorette M. DuBois, 80

WARE -- Lorette M. (Marcoux) DuBois, 80, of Gould Road, died yesterday in Quaboag Nursing Home in West Brookfield.

Her husband, Joseph DuBois, died in 1986. She leaves two sons, Roger DuBois of Ware and Albert DuBois of Milford, Conn.; a brother, Armand Marcoux of Rumford, Maine; a sister, Simone Mayernik of Mexico, Maine; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was born in Canada, daughter of Alfred and Emma (Champagne) Marcoux, and lived in Maine and Connecticut before moving here in 1980.

Mrs. DuBois was a clerk with the U.S. Post Office in Bridgeport, Conn. before retiring. She was a communicant of All Saints Church and a member of the Ware Golden Agers.

The funeral will be held Friday from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, North Street. Burial will be in New St. William's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Golden Agers will meet at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.
