Margaret D. Thomas, 92

WORCESTER -- Margaret D. (Howard) Thomas, 92, of 6 Farmington St., died Sunday, Jan. 21, in the Lutheran Home.

She leaves her daughter, Barbara M. Christiansen of Worcester; a brother, Donald Howard of Worcester; three sisters, Ann King of Worcester, Gertrude Tobin of Auburn and Dorothy Ring of Worcester; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Her husband of 38 years, Elmer R. Thomas, died in 1970, and her daughter, Shirley A. Pictou of New Brunswick, Canada, died in 1993. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John F. and Mary M. (Carroll) Howard.

Mrs. Thomas was a cashier at the former Webster Square Cinema, the former Lincoln Plaza Cinema, the former Capitol Theater and the former Whitman's Bakery, retiring in 1996. Because she was still working at the time of her 75th birthday in 1983, she was awarded the key to the city from then Mayor Sarah Robertson.

The private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160. Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., is directing arrangements.

Sandra J. Tolman, 38

GARDNER -- Sandra J. Tolman, 38, of 101 Summer St., an artist, counselor and volunteer, died Thursday, Jan. 18, at home after a long battle with cancer.

She leaves a daughter, Shakira C. Cote of Gardner; her parents, Richard A. Tolman Jr. of the Baldwinville section of Templeton and Marie (Zabala) Tolman of Gardner; four sisters, Carmen M., Maria and Rita Tolman, all of Gardner, and Theresa R. Tolman-Moschetti of Templeton; her paternal grandfather, R. Arthur Tolman Sr. of Baldwinville; a nephew and two nieces. She was born in Gardner and lived in Baldwinville and Gardner. She graduated from Narragansett Regional High School, Baldwinville, in 1980 and was recently accepted in the nursing program at Mount Wachusett Community College.

She was an artist, and operated Diamond T Art Gallery, Baldwinville. Most recently, she was a counselor at Stetson School, Barre. She volunteered for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in First Church of Templeton, Templeton Common. Burial will be at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St. Memorial donations may be made to Shakira C. Garey W. Walsh, 63

AUBURN -- Garey W. Walsh, 63, of 11 Saratoga Road, a local broadcaster, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a long illness.

He leaves a daughter, Jodi Walsh of West Boylston; two sisters, Doreen Soares of Chatham and Fountain Hill, Ariz., and Bernice Ferrero of Clearwater, Fla.; his former wife, Angie Walsh of West Boylston; and his companion of 25 years, Shirley Lundquist Sarasin of Auburn. He was born in Hartford, son of Thomas and Annette M. (Begen) Walsh, and lived in Lawrence and Worcester before moving to Auburn in 1976. He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Emerson College, Boston.

Mr. Walsh was a broadcaster in Worcester, beginning in 1959 at WAAB. He also covered news at WTAG. He won several awards for news coverage, including the I-290 bridge collapse, and the art theft from the Worcester Art Museum. He interviewed national personalities, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Mathis and Nat King Cole. He created Valentines for Vietnam while working at WSRO in Marlboro. His on-air career ended after eight years at WNEB, when the station was sold. He was the first anchor news broadcaster at Worcester's WSMW TV 27 in 1970, and continued to do television commercials until the time of his death. His voice opens each local news cast of Charter TV Channel 3 on the evening news.

The funeral service and burial after cremation will be private. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., Network, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608; or to Genesis Club, 274 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605. Olive V. Warman, 96

OXFORD -- Olive V. (Cobb) Warman, 96, of 20 Linden St., a retired household manager, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Manorcare Nursing Home in Fort Myers, Fla., after an illness.

Her husband, Walter G. Warman, died in 1964. She leaves two daughters, Gloria A. Dean of Fort Myers and Gail J. Marotta of Oxford; two brothers, Kenneth Cobb of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Robert Cobb of Agawam; four sisters, Ione Brill of Westfield, Helen Kelley of Gardner, Marjorie Cloutier of Orange, and Patricia Puzzo of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Donald Warman of West Boylston, died in 1972; another son, Gordon Warman of Brookfield, died in 1997; and a daughter, Barbara Warman of South Royalston, died in 1932. She was born in Portland, Maine, daughter of Benjamin and Florence (Sweetman) Cobb, and lived in Winchendon and from 1967 to 1994 in Brookfield. She lived in Oxford since 1994.

Mrs. Warman was a household manager at several area residences, retiring in 1993.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Calling hours are 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home. The graveside service will be held at the family's convenience in Hillside Cemetery, Townsend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Edmund Wesolowski

Monday, January 22, 2001

SALEM, N.H. -- Edmund Wesolowski, 74, of Salem, formerly of Andover, Mass., died Friday, Jan. 19, in Salem.

His wife, Leland A. (Kneisel) Wesolowski, died in 1999. He leaves a son; two daughters, including Ruth Mahoney of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a brother; a sister. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Wesolowski held many jobs, including positions at Haven Railroad in Readville, Bethlehem Shipbuilders in Quincy, Mass., and Amtek Co. in North Reading, Mass.

He was a member of Rotary International, the American Quality Control Society, and several veterans and social organizations. He was also an active area volunteer, and was a member of St. Joseph Church.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in St. Joseph Church, Salem. Burial will be in Salem Center Burial Grounds. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 1800 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03104.

Harlene C. Wilkinson, 94

MILLBURY -- Harlene C. (Connary) Wilkinson, 94, formerly of Dewey Avenue, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in Hermitage Nursing Home, Worcester.

Her husband of 42 years, Richard M. Wilkinson, died in 1978. She leaves two daughters, Harriet W. Fresolo, with whom she lived in Millbury, and Judy W. Gazza of Portland, Maine; two sons, Albert H. Wilkinson of Marlboro and James A. Wilkinson of North Brookfield; two sisters, Henryetta C. Kay and Harriet C. Allin, both of Lancaster, N.H.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers predeceased her. She was born in Stratford, N.H., daughter of Harlen and Harriet (Stone) Connary and lived in Millbury before moving to Worcester in August.

Mrs. Wilkinson donated her body, for medical research, to the Boston University Medical School in Boston. At her request there are no calling hours or funeral service. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. is directing arrangements.

Claire L. Withington

FITCHBURG -- Claire L. (Cournoyer) Withington, 78, of 279 Daniels St., owner of Withington Auction Galleries, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Highlands Long Term Care Center.

Her husband, Wesley W. Withington, died in 1980. She leaves two sons, Wesley W. Jr. and Gary J. Withington, both of Fitchburg; a daughter, Linda C. Sullivan of Woburn; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her sister, Alma Michaud of Fitchburg, predeceased her. She was born, in Greenville, N.H., daughter of Joseph and Esther (Girouard) Cournoyer, and lived most of her life in Fitchburg.

Mrs. Withington and her husband owned and operated Withington Auction Galleries in West Fitchburg, before retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was also active in many of the activities at the Joseph House.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in St. Joseph's Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 21 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.

Bronislaus P. Wrubleski, retired food service manager

DUDLEY -- Bronislaus P. “Ben” Wrubleski, 70, of 11 School St., a retired food service manager, former business owner, and baker and chef, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at home after being stricken ill.

His wife of 44 years, Dolores R. “Dolly” (Zmetra) Wrubleski, died in 1995. He leaves two sons, Gary E. Wrubleski of Quinebaug, Conn., and Brian P. Wrubleski of Webster; twin daughters, Denise T. Wrubleski of Dudley and Deborah A. DePaul of Jaffrey, N.H.; a sister, Theresa Brodeur of Putnam, Conn.; five granddaughters; two nephews and a niece. A brother, Peter Wrubleski, died in the Invasion of Normandy in 1944. A half-brother, Charles Bibik of New York, died in 1991. He was born and raised in North Grosvenordale, son of Piotr and Eleonora (Duszak) Wrubleski, and moved to Dudley in 1953. He graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in North Grosvenordale in 1950. He attended Putnam Trade School for two years, where he studied carpentry.

Mr. Wrubleski was a baker and a chef 12 years for Duffy's Catering Service in North Grosvenordale. Along with his wife, he later owned and operated Dolly and Ben's Bake Shop in Webster from 1970 to 1973. He was then food service manager for the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District for 16 years, retiring in 1990. After retiring, he was food manager at Camp Woodstock, and also worked for Brian's at Point Breeze in Webster.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a member of the executive board, and was past president of the Southern Worcester County Rehabilitation Center in Webster for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Dudley Housing Authority for more than 20 years, and was involved in the initial planning of Joshua Place Apartments. He was at one time an inspector for the Dudley Board of Health. He once taught cake decorating at the culinary arts department at Bay Path Vocational Technical School in Charlton.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, from Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the funeral home. Algot Anderson Jr., 78; World War II veteran

OXFORD -- Algot W. “Andy” Anderson Jr., 78, of Old Depot Road, a World War II veteran and a retired small-parts coordinator, died Friday, Jan. 19, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a short illness.

His wife of 25 years, Ruth E. (Comer) Anderson, died in 1973. He leaves three sons, William F. Anderson of Auburn, John R. Anderson of Charlton and Stephen C. Anderson of Oxford, with whom he lived; two brothers, Roger Anderson of the Osterville section of Barnstable and Robert Anderson of Leicester; two sisters, Grace Lee of Auburn and Jean Walsh of Oxford; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. A brother, Carl Anderson of Brookfield, died in 1999. Another brother, Russell Anderson of Worcester, also predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Algot W. Sr. and Hazel (Humphrey) Anderson, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1952. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving as a dental assistant.

Mr. Anderson was a small-parts coordinator 45 years for Rexnord Co., Worcester, retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Ann's Church, North Oxford, and American Legion Post 58, and a former member of St. Vincent de Paul. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Post 4241 and the Fourth Degree Knight Bishop O'Reilly Assembly. He was formerly active in the Catholic Youth Council, as a Little League coach, and as an assistant Scoutmaster.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Burial will be in North Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home. Oxford Knights of Columbus will conduct their service at 7:30 p.m. and the Fourth Degree Knight Bishop O'Reilly Assembly will conduct their service at 8:30 p.m., both during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Algot and Ruth Anderson Scholarship Fund, c/o Webster Five Cents Savings Bank, 393 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.

Anthony P. Andreola Sr.; World War II veteran

MILFORD -- Anthony P. Andreola Sr., 79, of 4 Ryan Road, a retired machinist and World War II veteran, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in the Geriatric Authority of Milford.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Mary E. (Nealon) Andreola; a son, Anthony P. Andreola Jr. of Milford; two daughters, Donna M. Lanchansky and Regina M. Boudreau, both of Milford; two sisters, Eleanor Tenaglia of Milford and Claire Trotta of Marlboro; one brother, Michael Andreola of Florida; ten grandchildren; and a niece. He was born in Milford, son of Michael and Malietta (Crescenzi) Andreola, and attended Milford schools. He was an Army Corps of Engineers veteran of World War II, serving in the 324th Combat Battalion of the Army Corps of Engineers in Europe.

He was a machinist for the former Draper Corp. until retiring in 1976. He was also affiliated with Ted's Taxi for many years.

He was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church. He was a local sports enthusiast, and was known locally as “Pa.”

Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Geriatric Authority of Milford, One Countryside Lane, Milford, MA 01757. Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., is directing arrangements.

David W. Armstrong, 57

DUDLEY -- David W. Armstrong, 57, of 415 Dresser Hill Road, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in Hubbard Regional Hospital, Webster, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 36 years, Faith B. (Nowak) Armstrong; two daughters, Hope Johnson of Quinebaug, Conn. and Christine Davidson of North Grosvenordale, Conn.; two brothers, Wayne Armstrong of Meriden, Conn. and Guy Armstrong of Dudley; four sisters, Vivian Durfee of Florida, Laura Del Kemp, Audrey Bacon, and Evelyn Grovesteen, all of Dudley; two grandchildren. He was born in Webster, son of Robert and Sigrid (Johnson) Armstrong, and lived most of his life in Webster. He served four years in the Air Force.

Mr. Armstrong worked 30 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., retiring in 1994. For the past four years, he worked at Mostly Meat in Webster.

He was a 25-year member, and past master, of the Webster Lodge of Masons. He was president of the Black Tavern Historical Society, and was a member and steward of the Dudley Grange. He was a past member of VASA Order of America. He portrayed Santa during the holidays for various local organizations, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., Webster. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church, PO Box 559, Center Road, Dudley, MA 01571 or the Black Tavern Historical Society, Center Road, Dudley, MA 01571.

Florence C. Beauchemin

FITCHBURG -- Florence C. Beauchemin, 78, of 52 Hurd St., a retired employee of General Electric, died Saturday, Jan. 20, at her home.

She leaves a sister, Lucille Rochette of Clinton; 24 nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. Three brothers, Roland “Spider”, Raymond and Robert Beauchemin, all of Fitchburg, predeceased her. A sister, Rita Marcotte, of Fitchburg, predeceased her. She was born is Fitchburg, daughter of Josephat and Marie (Joly) Beauchemin.

Mrs. Beauchemin worked at General Electric Co., before retiring in 1981. She worked as a nurses aide in several of the local hospitals during World War II. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church where she served as an acolyte, as well as a eucharistic minister who spent many hours making communion calls on local nursing home and shut-ins. She was also of the Fitchburg Golden Age club, Sierra Club of North Worcester County and the GE Quarter Century Club.

The funeral Mass will be held at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 24, in St. Joseph's Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in St. Joseph's Church. A vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 46 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA 01420, or to St. Joseph's School, 45 Columbus, St., Fitchburg, MA 01420. The Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon, St., Fitchburg, is directing arrangements.

Beauchemin, 78, of 52 Hurd St., who died Saturday, Jan. 20, at home, will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 24, in St. Joseph's Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the church.
