Hazel Dittrich, 87

HANCOCK, N.H. -- Hazel (Babcock) Dittrich, 87, of Hancock, formerly of Clinton, a retired interior designer, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, N.H., after an illness.

Her husband, Walter Dittrich, died in 1986. She leaves nephews and nieces. Three brothers and three sisters predeceased her. She was born in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Henry and Ella L. (Hetherington) Babcock and lived in Clinton for many years. She moved to Cleveland and then to Hancock 40 years ago. She graduated from Clinton High School.

Mrs. Dittrich was an interior decorator and designer for several retail stores in the Ohio area, before retiring. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved to bowl.

A funeral service be held at noon Friday, January, 26, in the James E. Watson Funeral Home, 149 Water St., Clinton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Earl S. Donaghy, 73

LEICESTER -- Earl S. Donaghy, 73, of 111 Hunton Memorial Highway, a machine operator and World War II veteran, died Saturday, Jan. 20, in the Meadows Nursing Home, after an illness.

His wife, Anita M. (Fields) Donaghy, died in 1991. He leaves a son, Mark E. Donaghy of Milo, Maine; four daughters, Linda L. Laconto of Leicester, Judy F. Plankey and Trudy M. Vail, both of Holland, and Lois L. Simpson of Spencer; a brother, Edward Donaghy of Fitchburg; a sister, Ethel Green of Tilton, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Deborah Donaghy, predeceased him. He was born in Hardwick, Vt., son of Archie and Inez (Sheldon) Donaghy and lived in Spencer, Auburn and Millbury. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mrs. Donaghy was a machine operator for Reed & Prince Company, Worcester, for 33 years, before retiring. He also worked as a carpenter for several years. He belonged to the Good Sams Club. He was an avid sportsman and camper.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Patient Activity Fund at The Meadows, 111 Huntoon Memorial Highway, Leicester, MA 01542.

Edna M. Dufault, 82

PUTNAM -- Edna M. Dufault, 82, of 33 Harrison St., formerly of Hartford, a retired business owner and operator, died Friday, Jan. 19, in Roncalli Health Care Center in Danielson, Conn.

She leaves a sister, Elizabeth H. Dufault of Putnam; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Putnam, daughter of Napoleon and Josephine (Favreau) Dufault, and lived 42 years in Hartford before returning to Putnam to live with her sister. She graduated from Connecticut Institute of Hairdressing, Hartford, in 1948.

Miss Dufault owned and operated Fashion Flair Beauty Salon, Hartford, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Mary Church of the Visitation, the Daughters of Isabella, and the Catholic League of Women.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be at the family's convenience in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. Donations may be made to St. Mary Paint Fund, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT 06260.

Lawrence C. Earley, 66

WORCESTER -- Lawrence C. Earley, 66, of 425 Pleasant St., died Friday, Jan. 19, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

His wife, Barbara (Hutchinson) Earley, died in 1999. He leaves three daughters, Maxine Earley of Worcester, Maureen Pond of Auburn, and Christine Houde of Hubbardston; a brother, Allan W. Earley of West Boylston; two sisters, Barbara F. Lawson of Boylston and Lois A. Little of Brookfield; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was born in Worcester, son of Harold F. and Dorothy E. (Farrin) Earley, and attended Worcester Schools. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Earley worked for the Charles Dowd Box Co. and in the maintenance department of the College of the Holy Cross. He was also a bartender at the Pleasant Street Bar & Grille.

He was a charter member of the Korean War Veterans Association of Worcester.

The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Graham, Putnam, Mahoney Funeral Parlor, 838 Main St. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the funeral home. Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 25, in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

George A. Fenton, 91

MILFORD -- George A. Fenton, 91, of Treeland Drive, the retired manager of Raytheon Corp. catering service, died Sunday, Jan. 21, at his residence.

His wife, Christine T. (MacDonald) Fenton, died in 1979. He leaves a son, Donald G. Fenton of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter, Barbara Grillo of Milford; a brother, Carl Fenton of Manitoba, Canada; two sisters, Annabelle Kippenburger of Dresden, Maine, and Ruth Walker of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, John A. Fenton of Milford, died in 1993. Two grandchildren predeceased him. He was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of George W. and Laura (Crosby) Fenton, and lived in Waltham and Natick, before coming to Milford in 1972. He attended the Yarmouth school system.

Mr. Fenton managed the Raytheon Corp. catering service, Dighton, for 20 years, before retiring in 1972. He previously was the district manager for the former Waldorf restaurant chain in New England. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and volunteered at many church fairs and church suppers. He also volunteered at the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital Coffee Shop. He was a former member of the Waltham Odd Fellows Lodge.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St. Burial will follow in the Vernon Grove Cemetery, Vernon St. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, 14 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757.

Mario Ferro, 84

MARLBORO -- Mario Ferro, 84, of 55 Edinboro St., died Monday, Jan. 22, in Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westboro after a long illness. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., are incomplete.

Wallace J. Folger, 70

WORCESTER -- Wallace J. Folger, 70, of 701 Main St., died Friday, Jan. 5, at a friend's home.

He leaves no known relatives. He was born in Fall River, son of Herbert and Sophie (Smith) Folger. He attended Fall River schools. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was a longtime client of the Public Inebriate Program.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the PIP Shelter, 701 Main St. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Donations may be made to the PIP Shelter, 701 Main St., Worcester, 01610.

Henry A. Gafvert, 86

WARREN -- Henry A. Gafvert, 86, of 24A Winthrop Terrace, a retired steel manufacturing company supervisor, died Thursday, Jan. 18, in The Meadows of Leicester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

His wife of 40 years, Mary A. (Platukis) Gafvert, died in 1974. He leaves a daughter, Marlene A. Tribandis of South Yarmouth; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece; and his longtime companion, Millie Hemphill of Palmer. A sister, Mildred Dix of Albuquerque, N.M., died in September. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Axel and Olga Gafvert, and lived there 40 years before moving to Millbury in 1954 and to Warren in 1981. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1932.

Mr. Gafvert was a supervisor 30 years for Worcester Pressed Steel, retiring in 1962.

He was a former member of Raymond Memorial Congregational Church, East Millbury, and a member of the Warren Housing Authority. He was a 50-year member of the Morning Star Lodge of Masons.

Mr. Gafvert donated his body to the University of Massachusetts Medical School Anatomical Gift Program for medical teaching, study and research. No funeral service is planned. The memorial service will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.

Charlotte R. Garceau

WORCESTER -- Charlotte R. (Brown) Garceau, 69, of 95 Chino Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 18, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Joseph H. Garceau; two daughters, Linda L. Connors and Nancy Garceau, both of Worcester; a brother, James Brown of Rowe; three sisters, Marlene Miller of North Adams, Gladys Brown of New Britain, Conn., and Sara LeBlanc of South Carolina; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in North Adams, daughter of William and Myrtle (Estes) Brown, and lived here many years.

Mrs. Garceau was a homemaker.

The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 22, from Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in the funeral home.

Quzabia M. Garcia, 82

HUDSON -- Quzabia M. Garcia, 82, of Hudson, died Monday, Jan. 22, in Marlboro Hospital.

Her husband, Manuel A. Garcia, died in 1981. She leaves a son, Gregory Garcia of Hudson; three grandchildren, Amber Swenson of Nashua, N.H., Alicia Fuce of Hudson, and Jeffrey Garcia of New Orleans; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, David Garcia, died last year, and another son, Jeffrey Garcia, died in 1956. Two sisters, Mary Perry and Julia Pitard, and three brothers, Joseph, Norbert, and Manuel Silva, predeceased her. She was born in Hudson, daughter of Jesse and Etelvina (Medeiros) Garcia.

Mrs. Garcia was a member of St. Michael's Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Holy Ghost Society, the Continental Union, and the Hudson Senior Citizens.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, from Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the funeral home.

Raymond C. Gaude, 62

Minerva J. Gilfoy, 93

SPENCER -- Minerva J. (Eastwood) Gilfoy, 93, of Howe Village, died Friday, Jan. 19, in Life Care Center of Auburn.

Her husband, Charles H. Gilfoy, died in 1980. She leaves a daughter, Elizabeth A. Bouchard of Spencer; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces. She was born in Plymouth, daughter of Ethan and Harriet E. (Johnston) Eastwood, and lived in Barre before moving here in 1988.

The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, South Barre. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608. J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, is directing arrangements.

Martina F. Grady, 98

UXBRIDGE -- Martina F. (Walsh) Grady, 98, of 120 Chapin St., died Friday, Jan. 19, at home after an illness.

Her husband, Edward L. Grady Sr., died in 1975. She leaves three sons, William T. Grady of Hampton, N.H., Robert A. Grady of Mashpee and Richard A. Grady of Newton; four daughters, Virginia G. Manning of Gales Ferry, Conn., Martina G. Parauda of Edison, N.J., Sheila A. Grady and Maureen M. Trettel, both of Uxbridge; 31 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Edward L. Grady Jr. and John M. Grady, and a brother, Edwin Walsh, predeceased her. She was born in Fairmont, Nova Scotia, daughter of Thomas and Mary (MacNeil) Walsh, lived for a time in Milford, and lived 62 years in Uxbridge. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Milford in 1919 and Burdett College in Boston.

Mrs. Grady was a member of St. Mary's Church, and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Harrisville, R.I. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Camillus Hospice, 447 Hill St., Whitinsville, MA 01588.

Francis A. Capalbo, 89

EL CAJON, Calif. -- Francis A. Capalbo, 89, of El Cajon, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Friday, April 6, in Sunbridge Nursing Home.

He leaves his wife, Margaret Capalbo; two daughters, Beverly L. Adua of Worcester and Sharon Osper of El Cajon; a son, Robert Capalbo of Worcester; two sisters, Sophie Yancius of Vero Beach, Fla., and Helen Dunn of Worcester; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Capalbo worked in television repair before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The memorial service was held in California. El Cajon Mortuary, 684 South Mollison Ave., is directing arrangements.
