Robert C. Carlisle, 77

Thursday, February 1, 2001

HUDSON -- Robert C. Carlisle, 77, of 8 Green St., a World War II veteran and retired business operator, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Marlboro Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Marguerite R. (Sarkisian) Carlisle; two sons, Clayton E. Carlisle of Hudson and Steven L. Carlisle of Sterling; a daughter, Laura C. Quinlan of Clinton; a brother, Theodore Baker of Jonesboro, Maine; a sister, Fern Ellis of Holly Hill, Fla.; three grandchildren. A brother, C. Edward Carlisle, predeceased him. He was born in Woodland, Maine, son of Clayton M. and Mildred E. (Blackmore) Carlisle, and lived 63 years in Hudson. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1914, and later graduated from the South Middlesex Business School in Framingham and Marlboro Vocational School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees in Europe.

Mr. Carlisle was superintendent of the tool room at the former Lapointe Machine Tool Co. He was later plant manager of Ultra Hard Metal Co. in Worcester. He operated Fleet Tool Co., retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1027 and the Island X of the U.S. 69th Naval Construction Battalion. He was a former chairman of various Boy Scout troops and committees, and was a board member of the Eagle Scout Board in the Algonquin Council in Framingham. He was a former member of the board of directors of the Lapointe Employees Credit Union. He was a former consultant to the machine shop craft committee of the Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School in Marlboro.

He enjoyed gardening, reading and music.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Wood Square. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St. Donations may be made to the Hudson Food Pantry, PO Box 608, Hudson, MA 01749.

Kathleen Carpenter, 77

FITCHBURG -- Kathleen “Keety” (Spyropoulos) Carpenter, 77, of 29 Merriam Parkway, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness.

She leaves a daughter, Michele A. Bongiorno of Leominster; a brother, Harry Spyropoulus of Fitchburg; and a sister, Coula Veros of Leominster. Three brothers, Nicholas, William and George Spyropoulos, predeceased her. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Andrew and Christina (Patricleos) Spyropoulos. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1941 and from the Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Gardner, in 1944. She served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1955.

Ms. Carpenter was an office nurse for Dr. Jesse C. Hales from 1944 to 1952. She worked in civil service for 21 years and served in Japan, Korea, Okinawa and Washington D.C. She then was employed at Borden Chemical, Spectro Analytical Instruments and Servpro. She currently was a secretary at Holy Trinity Greek Church. She also served on the Parish Council as a treasurer of the church from 1984 to 1995.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main St. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Church, 1319 Main St,. Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Robert E. Carpenter, 74

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Robert E. Carpenter, 74, of Kirkland, formerly of the Baldwinville section of Templeton, Mass., died Sunday, July 22, in Northwest Hospital, Seattle.

He leaves his wife, Ida (Teittinen) Carpenter; two sons, Randall Carpenter of Kirkland and Douglas Carpenter of Dallas; two daughters, Diane Peterson of Bellevue, Wash., and Cynthia Hall of Kirkland; two sisters, Inez Gaidowicz and Yvonne Proulx, both of Baldwinville; and three grandchildren. He was born in Baldwinville, and graduated from Templeton High School in 1945.

Mr. Carpenter was a facilities engineer for Boeing Co., where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed skiing, woodworking, gardening and dancing.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Lake Washington United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Washington United Methodist Church, 7525 132nd NE Ave., Kirkland, WA 98033.

Lorenzo A. Carrescia

LEOMINSTER -- Lorenzo A. “Larry” Carrescia, 92, formerly of 516 Lancaster St., a retired foreman, died Saturday, Jan. 27, in River Terrace Care Center, Lancaster.

He leaves two brothers, John S. and Eugene L. Carrescia, both of Leominster; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Maria “Mamie” Nelson of Leominster, died in 1988. Born in Philadelphia, son of Philip and Addolarta (Cascavilla) Carrescia, he lived many years in Leominster before moving two years ago to Lancaster.

Mr. Carrescia worked 53 years as a foreman for C.E. Buckley Co., retiring in 1992. Previously, he worked 17 years at the former E.I. Dupont Co.

He was a member of St. Anna's Church, the Sons of Italy 185, and the Foggia Club. He was a founder and past president of the Leominster Credit Union. He was a former member of the Massachusetts National Guard and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Leominster Aerie 477. An avid musician, he played in local bands including the Eagles Drum and Bugle Corps and the Colonial Band in Leominster.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to a charity or to the St. Anna's Church Restoration Fund, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster, MA 01453.

Harold K. Carrier, 85

LUNENBURG -- Harold K. Carrier, 85, of 39 Beal St., a retired dairy worker and custodian, died Sunday, Jan. 4, in the United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. after a short illness.

His wife of 54 years, Doris M. (DesLauriers) Carrier died in 1995. She leaves three sons, Lunenburg Fire Chief Dennis M. Carrier of Leominster, Peter P. Carrier of Maplewood, Minn. and Timothy D. Carrier of Onalaska, Wis.; two brothers, Douglas Carrier of California and Wilbur Carrier of Arizona; a sister, Shirley Haimila of Fitchburg; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. He was born in Winchendon, son of Maxime J. and Mary L. (Langevin) Carrier, and lived more than 50 years in Lunenburg. He had been spending the winter with his son in Maplewood.

Mr. Carrier worked in the dairy industry for several years, working for Tri City Dairy and Arn-How Farm, both in Fitchburg. He was later head custodian at the Turkey Hill Middle School in Lunenburg for several years until his retirement. After retiring, he worked part-time at the Chapdelaine Truck Center in Lunenburg.

He was a founding member of St. Boniface Parish and a was a member of the Lunenburg Friendly Seniors. He was an avid gardener and landscaper.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, from the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave. Burial will be in South Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lunenburg Rescue Fund, 7 School St., Lunenburg, MA 01462.

Jonas E. Carter, 85

SHREWSBURY -- Jonas E. Carter, 85, of 35 Julio Drive, formerly of Framingham and Upton, a World War II veteran and retired supervisor, died Friday, Feb. 2, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Dorothy R. (Sites) Carter; a son, Steven C. Carter of Worcester; three daughters, Vicki D. Cunningham of Long Beach, Calif., Cathi C. Waas of Cheshire, Conn., and Debbi S. Martinez of East Windsor, N.J.; and six grandchildren. He was born in Clinton, son of Lemuel and Ellen (Allen) Carter, and lived 25 years in Upton and 10 years in Framingham before moving to Shrewsbury seven years ago. He graduated from Hudson High School and earned an associate's degree in business administration from Bentley College, Waltham, in 1934. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in Oxford, England.

Mr. Carter was a supervisor for 45 years at Massachusetts Electric Co., Hopedale, retiring in 1980. He was active in church and civic affairs. He was a former member of First Congregational Church, Upton; a past master of Doric Masonic Lodge, Hudson; past president of Kiwanis Club, Upton; and a trustee and member of the board of investments for Milford Savings Bank.

The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in South Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Lorna L. Carter, 89

PAXTON -- Lorna L. (Little) Carter, 89, of 360 Richards Ave., died Saturday, June 2, at home.

She leaves a nephew, Robert P. Irons of Mystic, Conn.; a grandnephew and a grandniece. She was born in New London, Conn., daughter of Joseph E. and Grace M. (Horton) Little, and graduated from Williams High School in New London. She attended the school of fine and applied arts at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from Clark University in Worcester.

Mrs. Carter was an art teacher several years at the Bancroft School in Worcester, and later taught art 20 years in Worcester schools, retiring in 1979.

She enjoyed painting, and did enamel work. She was a contributing exhibitor at the Rockport Art Museum.

The private graveside service will be held in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford, Conn. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Allen Carter Sr., 75

GRAFTON -- Allen “Buck” Carter Sr., 75, of South Grafton, formerly of Ashland, died Monday, July 30, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

His wife, Dorothy (Morrow) Carter, died in 1999. He leaves three daughters, Donna Wamback of Northboro, Cheryl Sora of Grafton, and Susan Joyce of Millbury; a brother, Henry Carter of Framingham; three sisters, Evelyn Beaudet, Theresa Seata, and Eleanor Pignone, all of Framingham; eight grandchildren. A son, Allen B. Carter Jr., predeceased him. He was born in Framingham, son of Walter and Susan (Bradley) Carter.

Mr. Carter was a bricklayer, and worked for Local 3 and Local 51. He was president of Local 51 for 20 years, retiring several years ago.

After cremation, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland. There are no calling hours. Matarese Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Main St., Ashland, is directing arrangements.

Ethel E. Chojnowski, 72

OTTER RIVER -- Ethel E. (Beaumier) Chojnowski, 72, of 165 State Road, a retired bookkeeper, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 40 years, Leon J. Chojnowski; three daughters, Donna E. Cloutier of Glendale, Ariz., Lucy E. Cornaglia of Wallingford, Conn. and Karoline A. Chojnowski of Grafton; a sister, Rachel Morneault of Otter River; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Joseph E. and Esther E. (Bosley) Beaumier. She graduated from Templeton High School.

Mrs. Chojnowski was a bookkeeper at the Dean Paige Welding Co. for 15 years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Martin's Church. She was an avid bowler and bowled for the Gardner City League.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Templeton Rescue Squad, PO Box 4, Baldwinville, MA 01436.

David R. Clauson, 76

LOVELAND, Colo. -- David R. Clauson, 76, of Loveland, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a World War II veteran and a retired aerospace industry worker, died Monday, Jan. 8, in Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins.

He leaves his wife of 24 years, Patricia S. (Anderson) Clauson; two sons, David E. Clauson of Atlanta and Steven Clauson in Hawaii; two stepsons, Thomas Faatz of Berthoud and William Faatz of Livermore, Calif.; and six grandchildren. A brother and a sister predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Otto W. and Anna M. (Carlson) Clauson, and moved to Loveland in 1992. He graduated from a Worcester high school and from Upsala College in West Orange, N.J. He completed three years of postgraduate studies. He was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Clauson worked in the aerospace industry for Lockheed in Sunnyvale, Calif., and for Martin Marietta in Littleton, Colo. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Los Altos (Calif.) Masonic Lodge 712. He enjoyed flying and reading.

The memorial service was held in California. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

David R. Clauson, 76

Cecile M. Cloutier, 90

STURBRIDGE -- Cecile M. (Petit) Cloutier, 90, of 60 Farquhar Road, a former nurse's aide, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at home after an illness.

Her husband, Ernest N. Cloutier, died in 1985. She leaves a son, Albert E. Cloutier of Wilbraham; a daughter, Laurette Dziura of Sturbridge; a brother, Cecilien Petit of Montreal; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A brother, Arthur Petit, predeceased her. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Joseph Z. and Delvina (Charland) Petit.

Mrs. Cloutier was a nurse's aide at Sturbridge Nursing Home. She was the oldest original member of Sturbridge-Fiskdale Senior Center. She provided crafts for the annual St. Anne's Church Bazaar, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 16 Church St., Fiskdale. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harrington Hospital Hospice, 61 Pine St., Southbridge, MA 01550; or to St. Anne's Parish, 16 Church St., Fiskdale, MA 01518.

Joseph R. Cloutier, 57

PUTNAM -- Joseph R. Cloutier, 57, of 71 Bibeault St., died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Day Kimball Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Frances C. (Dumas) Cloutier; two daughters, Nicole Gisleson of Thompson and Muguette Cloutier of Largo, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Cloutier of Salem, Conn., and Norman Cloutier of Bristol, Conn.; three sisters, Jeanne Dahl of Dayville, Conn., Jeannette Barrette and Pauline Hubert, both of East Putnam; and a granddaughter. Two brothers, Edgar and Albert Cloutier, and a sister, Doris Goulet, predeceased him. He was born in Putnam, son of Elphege and Rose (Bonosconi) Cloutier. He served in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Mr. Cloutier was an electrical supervisor 37 years at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics, Groton, Conn., retiring in 1998. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Cargill Council 64, and enjoyed fishing and canoeing.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church Painting Fund, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT 06260. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., is directing arrangements.
