Richard J. Binnall, 84, baseball association founder

GARDNER -- Richard J. “Red” Binnall, 84, of 160 Blanchard St., a retired press operator and business owner, died Saturday, April 7, in the Leo P. LaChance Rehabilitation Center.
His wife of 58 years, Blanche (Packard) Binnall, died in 1998. He leaves a son, Richard J. Binnall of Burlington; three daughters, Judith W. Rose of Baldwinville, Lois A. Fontaine of Fitchburg, and Cynthia Gagliastre of Worcester; a brother, Thomas Binnall of Spring Hill, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Carl and Melvin Binnall, and a sister, Lois Binnall, predeceased him. Born in Newton, son of William J. and Winifred (Burley) Binnall, he lived most of his life in Gardner.
Mr. Binnall worked 40 years as a press operator for the Gardner Tool and Stamping Co., retiring in 1981. He also owned and operated the Binnall Sound System for many years.
He was a member of the Gardner Golden Age Club, a founding member of the North Central Massachusetts Baseball Officials Association, and officiated little league, high school, and college games for 42 years. He was a member and chairman of the City of Gardner Park and Recreation League for 26 years, a charter member and founder of the North County Umpire's Association, a lifetime member of the Gardner Knights of Columbus 396, and was a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church, Baldwinville. He was an avid fan at Gardner High School baseball and football games, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11, from the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in the St. Vincent DePaul Church, 1 Forest St., Baldwinville. Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the funeral home. Priscilla Blanchette, 77

THOMPSON -- Priscilla (Denomme) Blanchette, 77, of 6 Klondike St., Grosvenordale, died Tuesday, April 10, in Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.
Her husband of 46 years, Roland O. Blanchette, died in 1993. She leaves two sons, Paul Blanchette of Grosvenordale and Charles Blanchette of Fairfield; a brother, Wilfred Denomme of Putnam and Florida; a sister, Georgette Denomme of Auburn; four grandsons. She was born in Webster, daughter of Wilfred and Bernadette (Dion) Denomme, and lived most of her life in Thompson.
Mrs. Blanchette worked at the former American Optical Co. in Southbridge for many years, retiring several years ago.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of St. Anne.
The funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., North Grosvenordale. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Grosvenordale. Gary D. Boelke, 63

WARREN -- Gary D. Boelke, 63, of Warren, a retired machinist, died Saturday, April 7, at his home.
He leaves three sons, Brian and Brad Boelke, both in Minnesota, and Bruce Boelke of Dudley; two daughters, Gayle Moser in Minnesota and Leigh Desrosiers of Worcester; three stepdaughters, Lynn Lupacchino and Tammi Kemp, both of West Brookfield, and Terri Guillette of Warren; a stepbrother, E. Flowers in Minnesota; a stepsister, Sandy Volk in Minnesota; his close companion, Diane Eldridge of Granby; and several grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was born in Iosco, Minn., son of Allen and Rosella (Hughes) Boelke. He graduated from Chaska (Minn.) High School in 1955.
Mr. Boelke was a machinist at Warren Pumps Co. for 26 years, retiring last year. He was a member of West Warren Senior Center, and enjoyed woodworking and coin collecting.
The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Doherty Funeral Home, 40 Bacon St. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the funeral home.
Peter Bogigian

WORCESTER -- Peter “Sis” Bogigian of 89 Country Club Blvd., a retired night club owner and operator, died Monday, Feb. 19, in the Christopher House.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Lucy (Ogassian) Bogigian; two nephews, Robert A. Bogigian of Worcester and Armen Manuelian of Rutland; and a niece, Shirley Manuelian of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Kachadoor and Beatrice (Zoranian) Bogigian, and was educated in Worcester public schools.
Mr. Bogigian owned and operated Sis's Silver Dollar Night Club, first on Summer Street and then Green Street, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Holy Trinity Armenian Church, Worcester Restaurant Association, and Worcester Boys Club Alumni. He enjoyed baseball.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 635 Grove St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Raymond H. Bolduc, 82

WORCESTER -- Raymond H. Bolduc, 82, of 161A West Mountain St., a World War II veteran, business agent, and deacon, died Wednesday, April 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Muriel J. (Castonguay) Bolduc; two daughters, JoAnn R. Agnesian of Worcester and Pauline L. Keyes of Spencer; three grandsons; a great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Clara (Bernier) Bolduc, and lived here most of his life. He attended Worcester public schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Bolduc was a produce manager 40 years for First National Stores. He then was a business agent 10 years for Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union. He was a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Worcester. He was ordained by Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan in 1978. He served at St. Bernadette Parish in Northboro, and then UMass Hospital in Worcester and St. Mary of the Hills Parish in Boylston, retiring several years ago.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Parish, the Knights of Columbus Spencer Council, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6907.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 7, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., with a con-celebrated Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St., Boylston. Boudreau, 26, of 32 Crestlan Circle, who died Thursday, Aug. 2, will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, from Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Casimir's Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. He leaves his parents, Kenneth J. and Cynthia A. (Spirauskas) Boudreau of Worcester; a brother, Michael K. Boudreau of Worcester; a sister, Laura K. Boudreau of Worcester; and his paternal grandmother, Lucille E. (Boynton) Boudreau of Auburn. He was born in Worcester and graduated from South High School.
Mr. Boudreau worked at Therapeutic Work Options. He was a member of St. Casimir's Parish and played for Jack Barry Challenger Little League.
Margaret H. Bourque

GARDNER -- Margaret H. (Gearan) Bourque, 81, of 21 Lennon St., a retired city clerk and former office worker, died Friday, April 6, in the Transitional Care Unit of Heywood Hospital.
Her husband, Gerard Bourque, died in 1980. She leaves a sister, Eleanor E. Gearan of Gardner; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. A brother, John S. Gearan, died in 1969, and a sister, Mary Dunn of Fall River, died in 1988. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Daniel and Bridget M. (Shea) Gearan, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1936.
Mrs. Bourque was an office worker 20 years at the former Heywood Wakefield Co., and was later a clerk in the city water department, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, the Catholic Women's Club, the Holy Family League of Charity, and the Gardner Golden Age Club.
The funeral service will be held Monday, April 16, from John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St. Burial will be at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the funeral home. WORCESTER -- Joseph J. Bria, 77, of 49 Jennings St., a retired city worker, died Wednesday, April 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Joan C. (Gamache) Bria; three daughters, JoAnn R. Haffty, Gina D. Pellegrino, and Lisa V. Caldwell, all of Worcester; a brother, Angelo J. Bria of Worcester; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Evelyn Cimato, died in 1986. Another sister, Rachael Toscano, died in 1991. A brother, Charles N. Bria Sr., died in 1999. He was born in Worcester, son of Antonio and Vicenzina (Chiorcolo) Bria. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Bria was a maintenance man 30 years for the city sewer department, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 7, from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will be in St. John's Mausoleum. William F. Broderick Sr.

HUDSON -- William F. Broderick Sr., 88, of Hudson, a World War II veteran and a former builder, died Friday, April 6, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Lenora (Kotarski) Broderick; a daughter; nephews and nieces, including William Andrysick of Hudson, whom he helped raise; great-nephews and great-nieces. A son, William F. Broderick Jr., died in 1962. He was born in Hudson, son of Ludwig and Annie (Mikloski) Broderick. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Broderick was a builder and owned Willen Homes of Berlin, Northboro and Hudson.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 10, from Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. SUTTON -- Maurice J. Brouillette, 84, of 3 Marks Way, a retired machinist and a veteran of World War II, died Tuesday, April 3, in Lifecare Center of Auburn, after an illness.
His wife of 60 years, Irene S. (John) Brouillette, died in July. He leaves a daughter, Judith A. Clark of Sutton, with whom he lived; a sister, Claire Gruslin of Pawtucket, R.I.; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Alva Signet of Douglas and Rita Brouillette of Pawtucket, predeceased him. He was born in Pawtucket, son of Delphis and Lena (Taupier) Brouillette, and graduated from Pawtucket High School. He moved to Sutton in 1940. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a medic in Europe.
Mr. Brouillette was a machinist at the former Spinning Ring Co. in Whitinsville for many years, until it closed. He later worked several years at Noremac Co. in Westboro, retiring because of ill health in 1985.
He was a member of John Mateychuk American Legion Post in Manchaug, the Sutton Seniors and the Sutton Golden Agers. Mr. Brouillette was a member and past grand knight of Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus in Whitinsville, and was a 4th Degree member of Bishop O'Reilly Assembly Knights of Columbus in Worcester. He belonged to St. Anne's Church in Manchaug.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 5, from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas, with a Mass at 10 a.m. St. Anne's Church, 27 Main St., Manchaug. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the funeral home.

WEST BOYLSTON -- Barbara F. (Hall) Cairns, 83, of 208 Prescott St., a retired executive secretary, died Monday, April 2, at her home, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 52 years, Edward A. Cairns; two sons, Edward M. Cairns of Worcester and James H. Cairns of Eaton, N.H.; a sister, Marion Kingdon of Holden; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A twin brother, Charles H. Hall of Princeton, died in 1997. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., daughter of Charles L. and Joanna (Hotchkiss) Hall, and lived for a time in Holden, 13 years in Clinton, and 40 years in West Boylston. She graduated from Holden High School and from Becker Junior College in Worcester.
Mrs. Cairns was an executive secretary for Digital Equipment Co. in Hudson for 11 years, retiring in 1988. She previously worked at Norton Co. in Worcester and Colonial Press in Clinton. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Clinton and the Friends of the Beaman Public Library in West Boylston.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, in Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. There are no calling hours. Walter W. Carlson, 87

HARVARD -- Walter W. Carlson, 87, of 115 Oak Hill Road, a longtime fruit grower, died Monday, April 9, in Apple Valley Nursing Home, Ayer.
He leaves his wife, Eleanor (Hynes) Carlson; three sons, Franklyn W., Robert W. and Bruce E. Carlson, all of Harvard; two daughters, Hilda L. Carlson of Ayer and Sandra Rowse of Sunnapee Harbor, N.H.; a brother, Warren R. Carlson of Ayer; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was the son of the late Hjamar and Hilda Carlson. He graduated from Bromfield School in 1931 and from the Massachusetts Agricultural School in 1933.
Mr. Carlson started what is now known as Carlton Orchards in 1938, and was active in the business until recently. He was an avid brook trout fisherman and ice fisherman, and was an award-winning candlepin bowler who played in leagues in Harvard, Clinton, Leominster and Maynard. He won the Worcester Telegram & Gazette Bowling Championship in 1962.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Fruit Growers Association and the Massachusetts Farm Bureau.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, in Evangelical Congregational Church, Still River Road. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Ralph Caron, 74

WESTMINSTER -- Ralph Caron, 74, of 36 Honeybee Lane, a World War II veteran and a retired business owner, died Tuesday, April 10, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Jeannette (LeBlanc) Caron; two sons, Ralph Caron III of Las Vegas and Bruce Caron of Gardner; three daughters, Nadine Nuss and Lisa Rosin, both in Montana, and Paula Nicholson of Westminster; a sister, May Lison of Fitchburg; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Raoul and Flora (Lamoureux) Caron, and moved to Westminster 40 years ago. He graduated from St. Bernard's High School, Fitchburg, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Caron owned Ralph's Diner in Ashburnham for 25 years before retiring.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg. There are no calling hours.
