Angelo J. Zicaro, 85

Friday, April 13, 2001

WORCESTER -- Angelo J. Zicaro, 85, of 14 Trent Road, a retired Norton Co. employee, died Tuesday, April 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 64 years, Mary (Ferraiuolo) Zicaro; a son, Carmine “Bucky” Zicaro of Worcester; a daughter, Rosemary Kucharski of Hyattsville, Md.; a brother, Frank N. Zicaro Sr. of Worcester; two sisters, Emma Ferraiuolo and Teresa Quatela, both of Worcester; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Carmine and Rose (Capalbo) Zicaro.

Mr. Zicaro worked more than 38 years in the wheel division of Norton Co., retiring in 1978. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and the Brown Square Civic Club. He enjoyed fishing.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 14, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New England Center for Children Preschool, Route 9, Southboro, MA 01772.

Stephen F. Zilavy, 59

Wednesday, April 4, 2001

PRINCETON -- Stephen F. Zilavy, 59, of 211 Ball Hill Road, a retired carpenter and a veteran of the Vietnam War, died Tuesday, April 3, at his home, after a struggle with cancer.

He leaves his longtime companion, Sharon A. Harmon of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Frank and Edith E. (Oberg) Zilavy, and lived in Princeton for 48 years. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Zilavy was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Nordgren, Carigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

John G. Alberta, 85

Monday, April 23, 2001

MILFORD -- John G. Alberta, 85, of 78 Water St., a retired state employee, barbershop owner and veteran of World War II, died Sunday, April 22, in the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Guido) Alberta; a son, John P. Alberta of Lebanon, N.H.; three sisters, Mary Locantore of Whitinsville, Lucille Brogan and Esther Siipola, both of Milford; two grandsons; many nephews and nieces. Born in Milford, son of Pasquale and Rafaella (DeLuca) Alberta, he graduated from Milford High School in 1934. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Alberta was a clerk at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Framingham, retiring in 1984. For many years, he owned and operated John's Barber Shop.

He was a Milford Geriatric Authority trustee and a member of Disabled American Veterans Post 6.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 26, from the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 5 East Main St. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Medway Road. Calling hours are from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., or the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., both Framingham, MA 01701.

Richard B. Andrzejewski

WEBSTER -- Richard B. Andrzejewski, 54, of Webster, a millwright, died Monday, April 16, from injuries suffered in an accident in his back yard.

He leaves his wife of 28 years, Georgianna (Capozzoli) Andrzejewski; two brothers, Francis Andrzejewski of Quinebaug and Robert Andrzejewski of Webster; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Born in Webster, son of Stanley and Jeanette (Barrette) Andrzejewski, he graduated from Bartlett High School. He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Andrzejewski was a millwright 20 years at International Paper in Putnam and was instrumental in efforts to uphold the company's safety inspection record.

He was a member of St. Louis Church. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and collecting coins.

The funeral will be held Friday, April 20, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the funeral home.

Harvey R. Ball, 79; inventor of the Smiley Face

WORCESTER -- Harvey R. Ball, 79, of 38 Walnut Hill Drive, a World War II veteran and a commercial artist known for designing the Smiley Face logo, died Thursday, April 12, in Jewish Healthcare Center after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Winifred A. (Trudell) Ball; a daughter, Jacquelyn M. Stein of Worcester; three sons, Thomas H. Ball of Boston, Charles P. and Richard E. Ball, both of Worcester; two brothers, Raymond Ball of Shrewsbury and Merritt Ball of New London, Conn.; a sister, Virginia Ball of Worcester; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Ernest G. Ball, and a sister, Jessie Gowans, both of Worcester, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Ernest G. and Christine (Ross) Ball, and lived here most of his life. He graduated from South High School in 1940 and Worcester Art Museum in 1946. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific, including Okinawa and Leyte. He served 27 years in the National Guard, retiring as a brigadier general in 1973. He served six years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a full colonel in 1979.

Mr. Ball was a self-employed commercial artist for the past 42 years. He designed the Smiley Face logo in 1963.

He was an associate member of American Legion Tatnuck Post 288; a member of Greendale Post 319 American Legion, 40 & 8 Local 113, the First Friday Club of Worcester, the 96th Infantry Division Association, and the Retired Officers Association; and a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. In 1964, he was a military aide to Gov. John Volpe. He organized the first World Smile Day in 1999. Mr. Ball earned the Veteran of the Year award from the Worcester Veterans Council in 1999.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 17, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the funeral home. Members of American Legion Post 319 will meet at 6 p.m. during the calling hours to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St., Worcester, MA 01602; or to Worcester Historical Museum, 30 Elm St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Frances T. Casavant, 87

OXFORD -- Frances T. (Lorkiewicz) Casavant, 87, of 26 Fort Hill Road, died Friday, April 13, at home.

Her husband of 53 years, Gaspar E. Casavant, died in 1993. She leaves four sons, George G., Paul J. and James G. Casavant, all of Oxford, and John P. Casavant of Holland; a daughter, Janet F. Romano of Millbury; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Webster, daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Dudek) Lorkiewicz, and lived 60 years in Oxford. She was educated in Webster.

Mrs. Casavant was a member of St. Joseph Basilica, Webster.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Webster. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Basilica Handicap Ramp, 53 Whitcomb St.; or to Tri-Valley Elder Services Inc., 251 Main St., both Webster, MA 01570. Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, Webster, is directing arrangements.

Rose M. Ciaramicoli, 71

EASTHAM -- Rose M. Ciaramicoli, 71, of 1904 Herring Brook Road, North Eastham, formerly of Milford, died Tuesday, April 17, in Epoch Senior Center in Brewster.

She leaves a brother, Joseph Ciaramicoli of Milford; a niece, Lisa Everett of Virginia; two nephews, Joseph M. Ciaramicoli of Hopedale and Michael R. Ciaramicoli of Milford; grandnieces and grandnephews. Born in Milford, daughter of Reno and Lena (Pighetti) Ciaramicoli, she moved to North Eastham in 1992. She graduated from Milford High School in 1948.

Miss Ciaramicoli worked at the former Dennison Corp. in Framingham.

The funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 21, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 5 East Main St., Milford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the funeral home. Judith F. DeProspero

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. -- Judith F. (Lundgren) DeProspero, 61, of Miami Lakes, formerly of Grafton, Mass., died Friday, April 13, at home after a battle with cancer.

She leaves her husband of 41 years, W. Robert DeProspero; three Sons, William R. DeProspero Jr. and Michael and David DeProspero, all of South Florida; a daughter, Kimberly DeProspero of South Florida; her mother, Elsie Lundgren of North Grafton; a sister, Joan Modig of Cape Cod, Fla.; 10 grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, and graduated from Grafton High School in 1957.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 17, in Miami Lakes. Calling hours are from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday, April 16, in Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes.

SHREWSBURY -- Christine M. Erickson, 30, of 24 Whippoorwill Drive, died Saturday, April 21, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., are incomplete.

Joan M. Falardeau, 47

WEBSTER -- Joan M. Falardeau, 47, of 15 Kingsbury Road, died Monday, April 16, in Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam.

She leaves her husband, Warren P. Rekowski; two daughters, Kelly and Erin Sullivan, both of Webster; her mother, Hilda (Brown) Falardeau of Danielson, Conn.; a sister, Dianne Socquet of Danielson; several nieces and nephews. She was born in Putnam, daughter of Joseph O. Falardeau, and she graduated from Killingly High School in 1971. She attended Mount Sinai Medical School and graduated as an X-ray technician.

Mrs. Falardeau was a substitute teacher in Webster schools.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and volunteered for the Emmanus Prayer Center. She enjoyed gardening and swimming.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, in St. James Church, Danielson. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in F.W. Tillinghast Sons Inc. Funeral Directors, 433 Main St., Danielson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne School Hall/Gym Fund, 18 East Main St., Webster, MA 01570 or the Animal Rescue League, Oxford Animal Hospital, 244 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.

Maria F. Figueiredo, 91

HUDSON -- Maria F. Figueiredo, 91, of Hudson, died Monday, April 23, at her home.

Her husband, Antonio Figueiredo, died last year. She leaves two sons, Antonio and Jose Figueiredo, both of Hudson; four daughters, Isaura Santos, Maria Lopes, Isabel Melo and Ines Bairos, all of Hudson; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was born in Santa Maria, the Azores, daughter of Jose and Maria (Braga) Frias.

She was a member of St. Michael Church.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 25, from Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in the funeral home.

Michael A. Forget, 41

NORTHBRIDGE -- Michael A. Forget, 41, of 183 Sutton St., an assembler, died Friday, April 20, in Massachusetts General Hospital after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 16 years, Patricia A. (Richer) Forget; a son, Robert M. Forget of Northbridge; a daughter, Heather M. Forget of Northbridge; a stepson, Steven Royal of Northbridge; his mother, Margaret A. (Flynn) Forget Robillard, and his stepfather, Alfred Robillard, both of Holden; three sisters, Gloria A. Beaupre and Susan M. Michelson, both of Northbridge, and Mary E. Sardagnoia of Millbury; several nephews and nieces. A brother, David J. Forget, died in 1994. He was born in Northbridge, son of Allan V. Forget, and graduated from Blackstone Valley Technical High School in Upton.

Mr. Forget was an assembler 15 years at Nelmor Corp. in Uxbridge, and later at ACS in Attleboro.

He was a member of the North Uxbridge Progressive Club, and enjoyed hunting, golfing, and gardening. He was a member of St. Peter's Church.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 24, from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 23, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Michael A. Forget Children Education Trust, c/o Unibank For Savings, 49 Church St., Whitinsville, MA 01588.

Jane P. Fulone, 47

DOUGLAS -- Jane P. Fulone, 47, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of 556 Main St., died Friday, April 20, at her home, after an illness.

She leaves three sisters, Dale K. Phillips of Port Charlotte, Faye Fulone-Sweeney of Southbridge and Susan Fulone-Langehough of Belgrade, Mont.; and a niece. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., daughter of Frank D. and Eleanor A. (Anderson) Fulone, and lived many years in Douglas before moving to Port Charlotte five years ago.

She worked with disabled children and adults at Alternatives in Whitinsville for many years. While in Port Charlotte, she worked with Alzheimer's disease patients. She was a longtime member of St. Denis Church, and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine for many years. She was a member of the Charlotte County Art Guild, and enjoyed poetry.

The memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, in St. Denis Church, 27 Manchaug Road. Burial will be private in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
