Helen F. Hastings, 84

CLINTON -- Helen “Meme” F. (Conelly) Hastings, 84, of 309 Church St., a retired health care assistant, died Sunday, June 3, at home after an illness.

Her husband, Bernard T. Hastings, died in 1970. She leaves two sons, Bernard T. and James S. Hastings, both of Clinton; two daughters, Jean Carnes and Linda Hughes, both of Clinton; a sister, Marie McDonald of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, John Hastings died in 1951. A daughter, Marie “Cookie” Baer died in 1996. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Peter and Nellie (Dooley) Connelly. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1935.

Mrs. Hastings was a health care assistant at the former Clinton Nursing Home and Worcester County Hospital, before retiring. She was a life long member of St. John the Evangelist and a member of its Ladies Auxiliary AOH. She was a former secretary for the Clinton Little League Mothers Club.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 6, from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will following the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Missionary Society of St. James, 24 Clark St., Boston, MA 02109.

Grace Heigel, 35

DUBLIN, Ohio -- Grace (Kelleher) Heigel, 35, of Dublin, formerly of Hudson, Mass., died Monday, June 4, at home.

She leaves her husband, Ken Heigel; a son, Benjamin Heigel of Dublin; two daughters, Molly and Sarah Heigel, both of Dublin; her parents, James and Patricia Kelleher of Dublin; two brothers, James Kelleher of Dumfries, Va., and John Kelleher of Melbourne, Australia; two sisters, Mary Smith of Fredericksburg, Va., and Sarah Belden of Shrewsbury, Mass.; nieces and nephews. She graduated from Hudson High School in Hudson.

Mrs. Heigel worked at Honda of America. She was a member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus and St. Brigid of Kildare Church.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, in St. Brigid of Kildare Church, 7179 Avery Road. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations, may be made to the Stefanie Spielman Fund, 300 West 10th Ave., Suite B-13-459, Columbus, OH 43210 or the University of Dayton Memorial Scholarship Fund, 300 College Park, Dayton, OH 45469-1681.

RUTLAND -- Stanley J. Jatrinski, 88, of 106 Main St., died Wednesday, June 6, in Christopher House of Worcester. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

Donna G. Johnston, 55

WOODSTOCK -- Donna G. (Mescall) Johnston, 55, of 4 Town Farm Road, died Friday, May 25, at home.

She leaves her husband of 33 years, Edmond J. Johnston Sr.; five daughters, Nena Johnston of Charlton, Kerri and Erin Johnston, both of Woodstock, Scharri Loader and Nikki Johnston, both of Dudley; a son, Edmond J. Johnston Jr. of Woodstock; and four grandsons. She was born in New Haven, Conn., daughter of Philip and Bessie Mescall.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in Friendship Baptist Church, East Brimfield-Holland Road, Brimfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06101.

Ruth M. Kearns, 84

MARBLEHEAD -- Ruth M. (Mahoney) Kearns, 84, of Marblehead, died Saturday, June 2, in Salem, after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 59 years, Raymond R. Kearns Sr.; a son; two daughters, including Suzanne K. Browne of Worcester; a brother; nine grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and greatnieces and greatnephews. A brother and a sister predeceased her. Born in Salem, daughter of John and Mary (Kellaghan) Mahoney, she graduated from St. James Grammar and High School, Salem, and from the Bryant and Stratton Secretarial School, Boston.

Mrs. Kearns worked for Parker Brothers, Salem, and, for more than 30 years, for G.T.E. Sylvania Co. in both Salem and Danvers, retiring as an executive secretary. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.

The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, in Marblehead. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Betty A. Keddy, 71

Priscilla M. Kirby, 62

SHREWSBURY -- Priscilla M. Kirby, 62, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, June 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness. She leaves three sons, Peter K. Clougherty of Shrewsbury, Paul K. Clougherty of Worcester and John J. Clougherty of Hingham; five grandchildren. A brother, Peter Kirby, died in 1956. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Florence L. (Benaglia) Kirby, and lived many years in Shrewsbury. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Endicott Junior College.

Ms. Kirby was director of human resources 15 years for Wright Line Co. in Worcester before retiring.

She was a member of St. Mary's Parish. She was a floral enthusiast, and enjoyed cooking.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. After cremation, burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the funeral home.

Vincent Lanzisera, 68

NORTHBORO -- Vincent A. Lanzisera, 68, of Northboro, died Saturday, June 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 25 years, Patricia (O'Connell) Lanzisera; a daughter; and two brothers. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Joseph and Emma Lanzisera.

Mr. Lanzisera was an electronic technician.

The funeral service will be private. There are no calling hours. Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Richard J. Lynch, 68

OXFORD -- Richard J. Lynch, 68, of Oxford, formerly of Worcester, a retired truck driver, died Monday, June 4, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 12 years, Philomena (Gremo) Begonis-Lynch; a son and a daughter, both in Alabama; three stepsons, Anthony R. Begonis of the Quinebaug section of Thompson, Stephen P. and Dennis M. Begonis, both of Worcester; three stepdaughters, Patricia A. Kirkorian of Tempe, Ariz., Donna Parson of Surprise, Ariz., and Denise A. Antoni of Worcester; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Leo B. and Susan E. (Guinee) Lynch, and lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Oxford two years ago. He attended Worcester public schools. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Lynch was a truck driver for 20 years with Camosse and Sons of Worcester, retiring in 1992. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 318 and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 170.

The memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in St. Anne's Church, 654 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Sahag Matosian, 100

BOSTON -- Sahag Matosian, 100, of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Rodney Street in Worcester, died Sunday, May 27, in Parkwell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He leaves a sister, Nellie Topjian of Jamaica Plain; a niece, Anne King of Canton; a nephew, Leo Topjian of Westwood; great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces. He was born in Armenia, son of Daniel and Annie (Yarumian) Matosian, and was a survivor of the 1915 genocide of the Armenian people by the Turkish Ottoman empire. He lived many years in Worcester before moving to Jamaica Plain.

Mr. Matosian owned and operated a barber shop in Worcester.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, in Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 145 Brattle St., Cambridge. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. A calling hour is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, in Giragosian Funeral Home, 576 Mount Auburn St., Watertown. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 145 Brattle St., Cambridge, MA 02138.

Stanley A. McClure, 90

WORCESTER -- Stanley A. McClure, 90, of 16 New York St., a retired advertising manager, died Wednesday, June 6, in The Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, after an illness.

His wife of 69 years, Gabelle L. (Machiel) McClure, died in March. He also leaves three sons, Stanley A. McClure Jr. of Worcester, Robert M. McClure of Fort Worth, Texas and David G. McClure of Holden; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A brother, George “Buster” McClure of New Bedford, predeceased him. He was born in New Bedford, son of Donald H. and Louise (Anderson) McClure, and lived in Worcester for most of his life. He graduated from New Bedford High School. He served in the Naval Reserves since 1927 and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Atlantic and the Pacific. He then returned to the Naval Reserves, retiring in 1960 as a Master Chief Machinist.

Mr. McClure worked as an outdoor advertising manager for Donnelly Advertising for many years. He was a founding member of the Main South American Legion Post 341. He was also a member of the Greendale Men's Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Worcester Advertising Club and Our Lady of the Angels Church.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 9, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at noon in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.

David E. Megarry, 63

Megarry, 63, of 557 Southwest Cutoff, died Monday, June 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illnessHe leaves three sons, Dennis Megarry of Waverly, Ohio, Edward Megarry of Chicopee and David Megarry of Bridgewater; a daughter, Deborah Johnson of West Union, Ohio; his mother, Rita E. (Joubert) Megarry Motes of Auburn; his step-father, Carliss “Ed” Motes of Auburn; a brother, James Megarry of Westboro; two sisters, Rita Landers and Nancy Almedda, both of Roseville, South Carolina; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Kenneth Megarry, died in 1969. He was born in Worcester, son of James Megarry, and also lived in Sutton and Auburn. He graduated from the Major Beal High School, Shrewsbury. He served in the Air Force.

Mr. Megarry worked as a systems engineer for the Paul Revere Insurance Company for 16 years, retiring in 1997.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 7, from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Stanley Michniewicz, 81

RINDGE, N.H. -- Stanley E. Michniewicz, 81, of Pulaski Drive, Rindge, formerly of Gardner, Mass., died Sunday, June 3, in Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterboro, after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Jean (Abbott) Michniewicz; two daughters, Ysabella Bradley of Long Beach, Calif. and Linda Langevin of Philipston, Mass.; a son, Edward Michniewicz of Loudon, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Nancy Gerry of Athol, Mass.; a stepson, R. Larry Truehart of Athol; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A brother, Anthony Michniewicz of Rochester, N.Y., predeceased him. He was born in Gardner, son of Anthoni and Anna (Narkevicius) Michniewicz, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1937. He lived in Athol before moving to Rindge in 1974.

Mr. Michniewicz was a meat cutter for First National Stores in Gardner and Athol. He also worked at Stanley's Market in Gardner.

He was a past president of the Polish American Credit Union and the Polish American Citizens Club in Gardner. He served on the Gardner planning board, and was a member of the Athol Bird and Nature Club. He enjoyed fishing and wildlife.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, in Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 Rive St., Jaffrey. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jaffrey Rindge Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Ambulance Inc., PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452-0107 or the Athol Bird and Nature Club, c/o Robert Coyle, Chestnut Hill Avenue, Athol, MA 01331.
