Monday, December 10, 2001

WORCESTER -- Roy L. Moody, 49, of 701 Main St., a veteran of Vietnam War, died Saturday, Dec. 8, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.

He leaves three daughters, Kelly Mailly of Ashland, Nicole and Erin Moody of Framingham; two brothers, Scott Moody of Webster and Glenn Moody of Bellingham; a sister, Jean Moody-Bushell of Framingham; nieces and nephews. He was born in Brookline, son of Ellsworth and Ethel (Coffin) Moody. He attended North Framingham High School. He was a Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Moody worked for his family's business Moody Piano and Organ Company, Framingham.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Graham Putnam Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., with a service at 8 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to PIP Shelter, 701 Main St., Worcester, MA 01610.

Murphy memorial Mass
Thursday, December 13, 2001

WINCHENDON -- The memorial Mass for Dennis M. Murphy, 47, of East Laurel Lake Road in Fitzwilliam, N.H., formerly of Winchendon, who died Monday, Dec. 10, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce St. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

He leaves a brother, Kevin J. Murphy of Winchendon; a half brother, Robert E. Murphy Jr. of Fitzwilliam; a nephew and three nieces. A brother, Brent J. Murphy, died in 1989. A sister, Veronica A. Belden, died in 1993. He was born in Winchendon, son of Robert E. Murphy Sr. and Irene P. (Sevigny) Murphy, and lived here many years until moving to Fitzwilliam four years ago. He graduated from Murdock High School in 1972 and attended Keene State College in New Hampshire.

Mr. Murphy was a computer programmer for 25 years for General Electric Co. before retiring. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Restoration Fund, 52 Spruce St., Winchendon, MA 01475.

Phyllis A. Prada, 85
Tuesday, December 11, 2001

SANDWICH -- Phyllis A. (Eisnor) Prada, 85, of Sandwich, formerly of West Boylston, a retired secretary, died Saturday, Dec. 8, in Cape Heritage Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Her husband, Francis B. Prada, died in 1988. She leaves a daughter, Jane Briggs of Sandwich; a stepdaughter, Karen Midgette in North Carolina; a sister, Lorraine Delong of West Boylston; a brother, John Shortt in Guatemala; and eight grandchildren. Her first husband, Walter J. Marsolais, and a son, Joseph W. Marsolais, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Morton and Dorothy (Palmer) Eisnor, and lived many years in West Boylston.

Mrs. Prada was a secretary at Cape Cod Community College before her retirement, working in the History Department. Previously, she was an executive secretary at Clark University. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A. Burial will be in Cederville Cemetery, Herring Pond Road, Plymouth. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Cape Cod, PO Box 953, Barnstable, MA

Mary Ellen Riendeau
Monday, December 10, 2001

WORCESTER -- Mary Ellen Riendeau, 33, of 701 Main St., died Friday, Nov. 30, at a friend's home in West Boylston.

She leaves her mother, Doris M. (Cox) Riendeau of Oxford; two sisters, Gayle Thompkins-Morris of Worcester and Ruth Sneade of Oxford. She was born in Webster, daughter of Oliver J. Riendeau.

Miss Riendeau worked for the Dunkin' Donuts Corp.

The funeral service and burial will be private. Graham Putnam Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

M. Dorothy Rivard, 90
Monday, December 10, 2001

FITCHBURG -- M. Dorothy (Gaudet) Rivard, 90, of 164 Plymouth St., died Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Health Alliance -- Highlands Long Term Care Center.

Her husband, Lionel A. Rivard, died in 1978. She leaves two sons, Joseph Rivard of Fitchburg and Thomas Rivard of California; three daughters, Patricia A. Traini, Frances Ferris and Janice Ponusky, all of Fitchburg; two brothers, Robert and Edward Gaudet, both of Fitchburg; two sisters, Edna Mullin and Eva Messier, both of Fitchburg; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Charles and Delina (Girouard) Gaudet.

Mrs. Rivard was a member of St. Joseph's Church and Ladies of St. Anne.

A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. Memorial contributions may be made to Resident's Activity Fund, Highlands Long Term Care Center, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Woodrow A. Rose, 83
Tuesday, December 11, 2001

HOLDEN -- Woodrow A. Rose, 83, of 10 Frederickson Ave., a veteran of World War II, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in University Commons, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Kathryn B. (Brymer) Rose; a daughter, Kathleen M. Perkins of Worcester; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was born in Fayette, Maine, son of Henry P. and Frieda (Meserve) Rose. He graduated from Livermore Falls High School, and attended Boston University. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He later served in the Air Force.

Mr. Rose worked for International Cushion Co. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; O.S. Walker Co. in Worcester; and Holden District Hospital. He enjoyed golfing and photography, and was a former member of the Wood Hall Spa Golf Course in England.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in St. George's Church, 40 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. George Church Memorial Fund, 40 Brattle St., Worcester, MA 01606.

Marie A. St. John, 68
Wednesday, December 12, 2001

WORCESTER -- Marie A. (Varney) St. John, 68, of 61 South St., died Monday, Dec. 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

Her husband, Alfred P. St. John Sr., died in 1998. She leaves a son, Alfred P. St. John Jr., with whom she lived; two brothers, Arthur and Robert Varney, both of Worcester; a sister, Marion Anderson of New Sweden, Maine; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Archibald and Angelina (Mignault) Varney, and lived here all her life.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, from Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the funeral home.

Milton E. Stockman, 90
Tuesday, December 11, 2001

EAST BROOKFIELD -- Milton E. Stockman, 90, of 301 Podunk Road, a retired optical company worker, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, J. Irene (Plimpton) Stockman; three sons, Ronald J. Stockman of East Brookfield, Bradley A. Stockman of Gardner and Brian E. Stockman of Brookfield; two brothers, Marvin Stockman of Charlton and Harlen Stockman of New Hartford, N.Y.; a sister, Charlotte Dumas of the Fiskdale section of Sturbridge; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Lincoln M. Stockman, died in 1984. He was born in Charlton, son of John A. and Ellen (Wheelock) Stockman.

Mr. Stockman worked at American Optical Co., Southbridge, for 43 years, retiring in 1976. He was an automotive enthusiast, known locally for his self-made tractor and a black 1953 Buick Special.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 121 Blaine Ave., East Brookfield, MA 01515.

Madeline Sweeney, 84
Wednesday, December 12, 2001

DREXEL HILL, Pa. -- Madeline A. (Murphy) Sweeney, 84, of Drexel Hill, formerly of Waterbury, Conn., and Towson, Md., died Sunday, Dec. 9, in Bryn Mawr Terrace, Bryn Mawr.

Her husband, Eugene J. Sweeney Jr., predeceased her. She leaves three daughters, including Mary C. Shea of Worcester, Mass.; a son; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was born in Waterbury.

Mrs. Sweeney was a homemaker.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby. Lawrence Swenson, 83
Wednesday, December 12, 2001

HOLLYWOOD, Md. -- Lawrence C. Swenson, 83, of Hollywood, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Friday, Dec. 7, at home.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Edna (Kanada) Swenson; a daughter, Linda Boszko of Hollywood; a son, Jon A. Swenson of York, Maine; a brother, Alan F. Swenson of Norwalk, Conn.; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Leon G. and Mary E. (Stone) Swenson, and served in the Navy. He earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. Swenson worked in civil service as an electrical engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, and then at the Patuxent River Naval Air Test Center. He retired in 1982 as senior project engineer at NEASEA in St. Inigoes after 37 years of federal and military service. He was active in the community.

The funeral service was held in Leonardtown. Burial was in Charles Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 79, Hollywood, MD 20636.

Stanley M. Tibbetts, 88
Thursday, December 13, 2001

LEICESTER -- Stanley M. Tibbetts, 88, of 120 Mannville St., a retired machinist, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at home after an illness.

His wife of 64 years, Irene D. "Blossom" (Reeves) Tibbetts died May 4. He leaves a son, David S. Tibbetts of Cherry Valley; two daughters, Marilyn J. Leardi and Judith L. McMahon, both of Worcester; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Arnold, Manley and Paul Tibbetts, predeceased him. He was born in Derry, N.H., son of Elmer and Luvia (Burnette) Tibbetts, and lived in Keene, N.H., Spencer and Worcester before moving to Leicester in 1947. He was educated in New Hampshire.

Mr. Tibbetts was a machinist for 37 years at Worcester Pressed Steel, retiring in 1975. He was an associate member of Cherry Valley American Legion Post 443 and a former member of the Spencer Fish and Game Club. He made clocks, which he donated to area charities. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, metal working and vacationing at York Beach, Maine.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leicester Friends of the Elders, PO Box 242, Leicester, MA 01524.

Carl H. Wilson, 89
Sunday, December 09, 2001

NEWTON -- Carl H. Wilson, 89, of Newtonville, a former engineer, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in Newton-Wellesly Hospital.

He leaves his wife, Mollie Wilson; two daughters, Susan Wilson of Philadelphia and Deborah Tofias of Wayland; a son, Robert Wilson of Northampton; and seven grandchildren. He was born in Dudley and lived summers in Webster. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was president of his class.

Mr. Wilson worked as an industrial engineer at American Optical Co. He also worked for Foster Grant Co. He was a member of the MIT Alumni Association.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in Levine Chapel, 470 Harvard St., Brookline. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon. A memorial observance will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in LaSell Village, Seminary Avenue, Auburndale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Wilson Class of 1934 Memorial Fund, c/o MIT Office of the Treasurer, 238 Main St., Suite 200, Cambridge, MA.

Arline Lamb, 91
Monday, December 10, 2001

LITTLETON -- Arline (Hamm) Lamb, 91, of 191 Foster St., formerly of Lunenburg, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in Life Care of Nashoba Valley Nursing Home after an illness.

Her husband of 69 years, Orris Lamb, died in 1999. She leaves a son, Garnold "Jack" Lamb of Lunenburg; two daughters, Annette M. Ross of Maine and Rita A. Hamel of Lunenburg; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy Pimental, predeceased her. She was born in Rangeley, Maine, daughter of Wallace and Flossie (Ross) Hamm, and moved to Lunenburg in 1948. She lived the past four years in Littleton. She graduated from Rangeley High School.

Mrs. Lamb worked many years at the former Page and Gleason Inc. She was a member of All Saints Chapel, Leominster, and the Lunenburg Friendly Seniors.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rangeley, Maine. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rangeley. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the church. Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St., Fitchburg, is assisting with arrangements.
