Margaret Valliere, 89

FITCHBURG -- Margaret M. (Dooley) Valliere, 89, of 12 Airport Road, died Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Highlands Longterm Care Center after an illness.

Her husband, Ernest A. Valliere, died in 1993. She leaves a son, Thomas E. Valliere of Fitchburg; nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister predeceased her. She was born in Nova Scotia, daughter of Patrick and Annie (McLean) Dooley, and lived here most of her life. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1930 and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Fitchburg State College in 1934.

Mrs. Valliere was the first kindergarten teacher in the Fitchburg school system. She taught more than 30 years in Fitchburg and retired from Goodrich Street School in 1972.

The funeral Mass will be at noon Thursday, Feb. 7, in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Highlands Longterm Care Center Activity Fund, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., is directing arrangements.

Yvette A. Vancelette, 77

WORCESTER -- Yvette A. (Bernier) Vancelette, 77, of 7 Mott St., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Providence House of Millbury.

Her husband, Joseph R. Vancelette, died in 1984. She leaves a daughter, Donna Vancelette, with whom she lived; six sons, George W. and Robert G. Dube, both of South Grafton, Paul E. and Francis J. Dube and Joseph D. Vancelette, all of Worcester, and Roland J. Dube of Oxford; a sister, Florence Castonguay of Millbury; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Joseph W. Dube, died in 1967. A son, William A. Dube, died in 1970. She was born in Millbury, daughter of Albert J. and Clara (Betet) Bernier, and lived many years in Worcester.

Mrs. Vancelette was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 1, from Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the funeral home.

James H. Williams, 92

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- James H. Williams, 92, of Vero Beach, died Monday, Feb. 4, at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Jennie Williams, formerly of Gardner.

At the request of the family, there is no funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity. Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, 1655 27th St., is directing arrangements.

Karl J. Wojnowski, 39

DOUGLAS -- Karl J. Wojnowski, 39, of Cedar Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at home from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in September.

He leaves his wife of seven years, Jean (Sarli) Wojnowski; two daughters, Lynn Marie Wojnowski of Woonsocket, R.I., and Tanya M. Bryan of Worcester; his parents, John E. and Olive E. (Glidden) Wojnowski of Uxbridge; two brothers, Stephen J. Wojnowski of Uxbridge and Michael R. Wojnowski of Mendon; a sister, Tina M. Santos of Dexter, Maine; nieces, nephews and a great-niece. A sister, Joyce A. Wojnowski, died in 1978. He was born in Milford and was raised in Uxbridge. He lived in Dudley before moving to Douglas eight years ago. He graduated from Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, Upton, where he studied auto technology.

Mr. Wojnowski was a truck driver for Rosenfeld Concrete Corp., Hopedale, for the past year and a half. He previously owned and operated K&J Trucking. he also was a race car driver at Thompson Speedway. He raced No. 94, which was sponsored by Mike's Motor Service and was built by him and his brother. He enjoyed sky diving. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 170, Worcester.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Bethany Assembly of God, Cape Road, Route 140, Mendon. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Uxbridge. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Buma Funeral Home, 101 North Main St., Uxbridge.

Therese Abdella

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Therese (Roszko) Abdella of Miami Shores, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Miami Shores.

Her husband, Edward Abdella, predeceased her. She leaves three daughters, Martha Castagnola of Dedham, Mass., Barbara Gerrits of Lake Worth and Patricia Stokesberry of Miami Shores; four sisters, Sophia Veleno, Hilary Simone and Sally Harris, all of Worcester, and Stasia Gustowski of Framingham, Mass.; a brother, Constantine Roszko of Oxford, Mass.; and eight grandchildren. She was born in Worcester.

Mrs. Abdella was active with St. Rose of Lima Parish and school and then later St. Martha's Parish. She created a needlepoint design for the chair used by Pope John Paul's visit to Miami in 1987. With her husband, she was active in the community. She was an accomplished tennis player for more than 30 years.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in Cofer-Kolski-Combs Funeral Home, 10931 North East Sixth Ave., Miami, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose Endowment Fund, 10690 North East Fifth Ave.; or to St. Martha's Parish, 9301 Biscayne Blvd., both Miami Shores, FL 33138.

George F. Andrews, 86

LEOMINSTER -- George F. Andrews, 86, of 100 Main St., retired machine operator, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at home.

His wife, Mary (Hart) Andrews, died in 1986. He leaves two daughters, Judith Soucy of Leominster and Mary Ann Coons of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Richard Andrews of Houston and Leo Andrews of Leominster; four sisters, Rita Gauthier and Grace Kearney, both of Leominster, Beatrice Burns of Fitchburg and Eleanor Terwiske of Sudbury; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Leominster, son of John and Mary (Hart) Andrews.

Mr. Andrews was a machine operator at ITT Suprenant Co.

He was a member of St. Leo's Church and the Leominster Senior Center, and was a past member of the Leominster Eagles, St. Jean's Club, the Leominster Moose Club and the Eastwood Club.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., with Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main St. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, PO Box 866, Melrose, MA 02176.

Edgerton J. Antonia, 92

MANCHESTER, Conn. -- Edgerton J. Antonia, 92, of Manchester, formerly of Winchendon, Mass., a World War II veteran and a former engineer, died Thursday, Jan. 24, in Manchester.

His wife, Vega (Forslund) Antonia, died in 1999. He leaves two sons, Paul Antonia of Manchester and Richard Antonia of Dunbarton, N.H.; a daughter, Adele Bowmar of Pittsfield, Mass.; a brother, Frank Antonia of Plymouth, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A son, Donn Antonia, died in 2001. A grandson died in 1965. He lived in Winchendon from 1949 until moving to Sudbury, Mass., in 1957. 1975, he returned to Winchendon, where he lived 24 years before moving to Manchester to live with his son after suffering a stroke in 2000. He graduated from Hyde Park High School, Boston, and Lowell (Mass.) Institute. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant and supervising the construction of submarines in Manitowoc, Wis.

Mr. Antonia was a professional electrical engineer and worked for Travelers Insurance Co., based in Hartford, retiring in 1973.

In Winchendon, he was active in town business and served on several committees including the Finance Committee. He was awarded "Winchendon Citizen of the Year" in 1988 and was a life member of American Legion Post 193.

The graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon. A calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Fletcher-Hebert Funeral Home, 70 Pleasant St., Winchendon.

Arthur R. Auclair, 74

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Arthur R. Auclair, 74, of Providence House Nursing Home, formerly of Therese Ave., retired sales representative, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Lucille H. (Lusignan) Auclair; three sons, John Auclair of Southbridge, William A. Auclair of Santa Clara, Calif., and Thomas R. Auclair of Denver; a daughter, Marianne Dalton of Winthrop; seven grandchildren. He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., son of Leo and Marie T. (Desroches) Auclair, and moved to Southbridge from Worcester in 1963. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a sales representative many years for the Electrolux Corp.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. Burial will be private in St. George Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patient Activity Fund, Providence House Nursing Home, 84 Chapin St., Southbridge, MA 01550.

Burt W. Beckwith, 83; veteran of Iwo Jima

RUTLAND -- Burt "Sonny" W. Beckwith, 83, of 33 Highland St., a World War II veteran, died Friday, Jan. 25, at home after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Tibbetts) Beckwith; three daughters, Barbara Holland of Percy, Ark., Nancy Meserve of Lunenburg and Sally Hayden of Rutland; two sisters, Mabel Davis of Center Ossipee, N.H. and Jean Byrns of Sebring, Fla.; four brothers, Philip Beckwith of Freedom, N.H., George Beckwith of Clarksville, Fla., Richard Beckwith of Joshua Tree, Calif. and Bruce Beckwith of Miamitown, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A brother, John Beckwith, and a sister, Beatrice Blair, predeceased him. He was born in Providence, son of Burt and Mabel (Wells) Beckwith, and lived more than 50 years here. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He also served in the Army.

Mr. Beckwith was a railroad worker for more than 40 years, serving as treasurer of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Union.

A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Fire Department Ambulance Gift Fund, c/o the funeral home, or to the American Lung Association of Central Massachusetts, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346.

Joseph J. Bekeris, 86
Wednesday, January 30, 2002

DURHAM, N.H. -- Joseph J. Bekeris, 86, of 13 Mill Road, formerly of 16 Plymouth St., Gardner, died Monday, Jan. 28, at home.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Blanche (Brone) Bekeris; a daughter, Vi B. McNeil; a brother, William Bekeris of Latvia; and two grandchildren. He was born in Rokiskis, Lithuania, and came to the United States in 1949. He served in the Lithuanian army.

Mr. Bekeris was a press operator for Coller Keyworth Company, before retiring after 27 years. He was president and a member of the board of directors of the Lithuanian Outing Association and was founder of the Lithuanian Bowling League. He was an avid fisherman.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, Lovewell Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the funeral home.

Elsie D. Bellerose, 92
Monday, January 28, 2002

NORTHBRIDGE -- Elsie D. (Theberge) Bellerose, 92, of Church Street, in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, died Sunday, Jan. 27, at the home of her son in Dennis.

Her husband, Camille N. Bellerose, died in 1988. She leaves two sons, Francis N. Bellerose of Dennis, and David J. Bellerose of Southport, N.C.; a daughter, Pauline M. Richard of Douglas; a sister, Ruth Roberts of West Brimfield; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Warren, daughter of Joseph and Lavina (Brodeur) Theberge, and lived in Whitinsville since 1952. She was educated in the Warren schools.

Mrs. Bellerose was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., Whitinsville, is directing arrangements.
