George W. Pierce, 80

Plymouth - George W. Pierce, 80, former circulation manager, foreman and policeman, died February 19, 1998 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth.

He was the husband of Ellen (Walls) Pierce.

Born in Marstons Mills, he attended Barnstable schools. He worked as circulation manager for the Cape Cod Standard-Times, as foreman for Mystic Lake Farms in Marstons Mills and as a policeman for the town of Yarmouth.

Mr. Pierce also worked for Hayden Building Movers and the Dolphin Restaurant in Barnstable and did handyman work for people in Barnstable village.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hyannis and was a regular blood donor for the Red Cross.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Charles S. Pierce of Centerville, Jerome A. Pierce of Hyannis and George W. Pierce Jr. of South Dennis; three daughters, Peggy Lou Laffoon of Forestdale, Kathryn J. Shepherd of West Yarmouth and Patty P. Compagnone of Plymouth; two stepsons, Leroy F. Cotell of Harwich and Joseph E. Cotell of Hyannis; three stepdaughters, Janice C. Bigwood of Tarpan Springs, Fla., Joanne M. Lopes of West Yarmouth and Maryellen McIntyre of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Jack Pierce of Marstons Mills; seven sisters, Gertrude Thew, Phyllis Thifault, Molly Burrows, Jane Schakel and Grace Lapham, all of Marstons Mills, Esther Souve of Hyannis and Emily Philbrick of Sagamore; 32 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral and burial were private.

Josephine A. Price, 75

West Yarmouth - Josephine A. Price, 75, a homemaker, died February 14, 1998 at Mayflower Place Nursing Home after a long illness.

Miss Price was born, raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Commerce High School there. She moved to Dennisport in 1989.

Miss Price leaves one brother, Charles A. Price Jr. of Centerville; two sisters, Lilla Sykes of Longmeadow and Barbara Geoffrion of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; and one niece and one nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated February 26 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial was private.

Evangeline Rogers, 92

Cotuit - Evangeline (Enos) Rogers, 92, died February 19, 1998 at the Cape Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Centerville after a long illness.

She was the wife of Albert Rogers who died in 1978. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Mrs. Rogers came to Santuit from the Azores at age 2 and lived in Santuit all her life. She was a domestic worker for families in the area.

Mrs. Rogers was a former member of the Osterville United Methodist Church and a rounding member of the Santuit/Cotuit Holy Ghost Society.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service was held February 21 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Frances E. Stanley

Hyannis - Frances Elizabeth (Rowlinson) Stanley, a retired teacher, died February 21, 1998 at the Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville, following a long illness.

She was the wife of Asa Stanley. Born in Boston, Mrs. Stanley was a graduate of Girls Latin High School, Boston, and Boston State Teachers College. She lived in Dorchester, West Roxbury and Hyde Park for many years.

Mrs. Stanley taught business classes at Memorial High School in Roxbury and later at Hyde Park High School. She retired in 1969, at which time she moved from Hyde Park to Hyannis.

She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. She enjoyed traveling.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Stanley leaves two nieces and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated February 24 in St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial was private. Following the funeral services, a reception was held for friends and relatives in the Tara Hotel, Hyannis.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Evelyn B. Weeks, 82

Hyannis - Evelyn B. (Chase) Weeks, 82, a Cape Cod native, died February 17, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late S. David Weeks.

A native of Cape Cod, Mrs. Weeks was born and raised in Harwich and graduated from Harwich High School. After high school she moved to Hyannis, where she married and raised her family.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed crafts and doll collecting.

Surviving are three sons, Allan Marchant of Hyannis, William Marchant of Waltham and Dennis Marchant of Barnstable; a daughter, Eileen York of Belfast, Maine; a brother, Richard Chase of Harwich; a sister, Madolyn Jones of Brewster; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held February 19 in Oak Neck Cemetery, Hyannis.

Memorial donations may be made to the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Claire E. Zicko, 78

Hyannis - Claire E. (Lyons) Zicko, 78, formerly of Natick, died February 16, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Facility after a long illness.

She was the wife of Bietre Zicko. She was born and raised in Newton Centre and was a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Newton Centre.

After living in Natick for 23 years, she moved to Hyannis in 1979.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Bruce D. Zicko of South Yarmouth, Brian S. Zicko of Hyannis and Robert J. Zicko of Cary, N.C.; a brother, Paul W. Lyons of South Weymouth; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home at the Natick Common. Burial followed at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Ollie J. Aronson, 69

Quincy - Ollie J. Aronson, 69, who leaves family on the Cape, died March 1, 1998 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Madeline F. (Ryan) Aronson.

Mr. Aronson was born in Boston. He was a graduate of Milton High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Boston Gas Company.

He was an avid golfer and for many years was a sponsor of the St. Francis Xavier Drum & Bugle Corps of Weymouth.

Besides his wife, Mr. Aronson is survived by one son, Michael J. Aronson of Placeville, Calif.; one daughter, Deborah M. Reardon of Kingston; one brother, Eric Aronson of Scituate; two sisters, Margit Johnson of Sandwich and Lillian Hulteen of Hyannis; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated March 4, 1998 in St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth, and burial was private.

Anthony Bell, 37

Los Angeles, Calif. - Anthony "Tony" Bell, 37, formerly of Hyannis, died unexpectedly February18, 1998 in Los Angeles.

He was the son of Victoria Bell of Hyannis and Frank Harris of Little Rock, Ark.

Born in Hyannis, he was raised and educated in Barnstable. He graduated from Barnstable High School and Syracuse College of Business.

Mr. Bell moved to California in 1979 and worked for Robert Gardner Inc. and Brown Metal Salvage.

Surviving besides his parents are seven brothers, Leroy Baucom and Ricky Bell, both of Los Angeles, Noah Bell, Walter Bell and Perry Bell, all of Hyannis, and Frank Harris Jr. and Albert Harris, both of Little Rock, Ark.; eight sisters, Nellie Sampson and Rosemary Bell, both of Los Angeles, Betty Hayes of Milwaukee, Wis., Doris Bell of Phoenix, Ariz., Peggy Ferguson and Debra Sweeteing of Hyannis, Vicki Bell of Virginia and Velma Harris of Little Rock, Ark.; many aunts and uncles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held February 27 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. Burial followed in Oak Neck Cemetery, Hyannis.

Francis X. Curran

Centerville - Francis X. Curran, a member of the Jesuits and a teacher at Boston College, died February19, 1998 at his home in Centerville, from an allergic reaction to medication and complications from surgery.

He was the husband of Alice Curran for 30 years.

Born in Cambridge, Mr. Curran was formerly of Winchester. He was a triple Golden Eagle, a member of the N.E. Province of Jesuits for 23 years, former director of Pupil Services in the Waltham school system and a curriculum planner at the Gabeler School.

Mr. Curran served in many capacities at Boston College, including the supervision of doctoral students in the PSAP program; supervising practicums; teaching and research in the classical theories of knowing; and coordinator of the Campus School Eagle Eyes Program.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Marialice Curran of Centerville; a sister, Muriel Curran, SSND of Convent Station, N.J.; and a brother, Thomas Curran of Auburn, Ala.

A Mass of celebration of his life was held February 28 at St. Mary's Chapel at Boston College.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fund for Retired Jesuits at Campion Center, 319 Concord Road, Weston, MA 02193-1398; or the Campus School at Boston College, Campion Hall,149 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02167-3813.

Lillian I. Frew, 73

Centerville - Lillian I. (Borgatti) Frew, 73, died unexpectedly February 23, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital after being stricken ill at a friend's home in Hyannis.

She was the wife of Edward R. Frew, who died in 1988.

Born in West Springfield, Mrs. Frew was raised and educated in Springfield. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and Bay Path College.

Mrs. Frew worked for many years at the former Bosche Machine Co. in Springfield and then lived in New Jersey, Rhode Island, the Carolinas and Chicopee before moving to Centerville in 1975.

After moving to the Cape, she worked for Pools by Luzetti in Hyannis and later for Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville. She was an active member and volunteer in church activities.

She was also a member of the Golden Agers of Hyannis and the National Organization of the Women in Construction for many years.

Surviving are a stepson, Edward E. Frew of Chicopee; two step-daughters, Cheryl D. Longhi of Springfield and Charlene Bourque of Chicopee; two brothers, Vincent Borgatti Sr. of Springfield, Roger Borgatti of Bath, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece and two nephews.

A funeral Mass was held February 27 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville. Burial followed in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. There were no visiting hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 Main St., Centerville, MA 02632.
