LaVerne L. Stanley
SNOW HILL - LaVerne Lula Stanley of Snow Hill died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was 44.
Born on Nov. 25, 1954 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of Laurena Stanley and the late Levi H. Stanley. She had resided at the Holly Center in Snow Hill for about 34 years.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Stanley is survived by three brothers, Levi E. Stanley of Hurlock, McDaniel Stanley of Wilmington, N.C., and Louis Stanley of Cambridge, and one sister, Marion Stanley of Blackwood, N.J. Another sister, Barbara Stanley, is deceased.
A private service will be held at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Hurlock at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10. Concluding service will be at Salem Cemetery.
Grace J. Toomey
FEDERALSBURG - Grace Julia Toomey, formerly of Federalsburg, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999 at The Pines Genesis Eldercare in Easton. She was 88.
Born on Nov. 6, 1911 near Bridgeville, Del., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ella Morris Reynolds.
A seamstress for Federal Sportswear for 10 years, she was a former member of Park Lane Church of God in Federalsburg and a former member of the Easton Moose Lodge.
Mrs. Toomey is survived by one brother, George Reynolds of Georgetown, Del., and a niece, Clemmie V. Beauchamp of Federalsburg. Her husband, L. William Toomey, and two sisters, Nora Stewart of Georgetown, Del., and Violet Rash, of Federalsburg, are deceased.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 at Bloomery Cemetery
near Federalsburg. Friends may call at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11.
Jay E. Aldridge
CAMBRIDGE - Jay E. Aldridge of Cambridge died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. He was 66.
Born Feb. 12, 1934, in Raleigh, N.C., he was the son of the late James Henry and Mildred Smith Aldridge.
He was raised in Cambridge and was a 1952 graduate of Cambridge High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in August 1952, serving in the Air Police and later as an administrative clerk. He was discharged in 1961. From February 1961 until he retired in March of 1989, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier-technician. He attended the University of Baltimore night school from 1966 to 1974. He was married to the former Lorraine Anderson on Oct. 8, 1956, who died on Dec. 31, 1999.
He was a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post 7460, V.F.W. He was a former member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge and an active member of Rescue Fire Co.
Mr. Aldridge is survived by one daughter, Marianne "Amy" Wohl of Columbia; one son, Jay E. Aldridge Jr. of Cambridge; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 27, at Dorchester Memorial Park.

Louise L. Cook
CENTREVILLE - Louise L. Cook of Centreville died Monday, Aug.14, 2000, at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center, Centreville, as a result of heart failure. She was 98.
Born March 2, 1902, near Star, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Henry and Lillian Estelle "Dolly" Reed Covington.
A lifelong resident of Queen Anne's County and surrounding area, she was a 1920 graduate of Centreville High School and later went on to Townsend Normal School, where she graduated in 1922. She began a teaching career at Crumpton Elementary School.
She married William Henry Cook Sr. When not teaching, she worked the farm with her husband. She retired from the teaching profession in 1953, substitute teaching from 1953 until the 1960s. Mr. Cook died in 1976.
She was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Price and was active in the Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Price Community Club.
Mrs. Cook is survived by three sons, William N. Cook Jr. of Queenstown, and Edwin D. Cook and Howard T. Cook, both of Centreville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandsons. Her brothers and sisters, Mary Chambers, Esther Hollingsworth, Edward, Henry, Alfred and Calvin Covington, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Bethany United Methodist Church, Price. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Burial will be at the Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville.

Lemuel C. Dyott
DENTON - Lemuel C. Dyott, who lived near Denton, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home. He was 83.
Born near Easton on March 26, 1917, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Dyott Sr. and Naomi Viola Foster Dyott. He had lived in Caroline County for the past 43 years. He farmed and worked for the State Roads Department. He later became a mechanic and worked until he retired for Fox's Cannery in Queen Anne. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Wire Conveyor Belts in Easton and Dick's Auto Haus in Wye Mills.
Mr. Dyott is survived by his wife of 63 years, Laura Belle Dyott; three daughters, Gloria Pinkine of Denton, Norma Lloyd of Federalsburg and Barbara Bell of Denton; three sisters, Mary Pinder of Denton, Thelma Starkey of Baltimore and Hazel Seville of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Virginia M. Bailey, and a brother, Thomas E. Dyott Jr., are deceased.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Moore Funeral Home in Denton, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery

Joan M. Elliott
BALTIMORE - Joan Martha Elliott of Easton died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, from complications from a recent organ transplant surgery. She was 60.
Born Sept. 7, 1939 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Susan Murcavage of Sewell, N.J. and the late John Victor Murcavage.
After graduating from Pitman High School, Pitman, N.J. in 1957, she married Charles Elliott and in 1980 they were divorced. She was a homemaker and had worked as a legal secretary. Prior to becoming disabled, she had worked for Tidewater Publishing in Centreville.
Elliott was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Easton.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Elliott is survived by a son, Michael Elliott of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Elliott of Queenstown, and Sandra Elliott of Easton; a brother, Leon Murcavage of Sewell, N.J.; a sister, Susan Ann Frambes of Pitman, N.J.; and one grandchild. A dear friend, Ernest Lee Whitby, is deceased.
A memorial service will be at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Leon J. Kostkowski Sr.
RIDGELY - Leon Joseph Kostkowski Sr. of Ridgely died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000 at his home. He was 55.
Born Jan. 5, 1945, in Annapolis, he was the son of the late Robert and Julie Anna Hoppa Kostkowski.
He moved from Crownsville 18 years ago. A U.S. Army veteran, he worked as a machinist for Allen Family Foods in Cordova. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Easton.
He married Frances Hobbs Kostkowski 18 years ago. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Kostkowski of Ridgely; two stepsons, Gary Saulsbury of Florida and Eric Saulsbury of Georgia; one stepdaughter, Dixie Gray of Easton; a niece, Summer Edwards, whom they raised; three sisters, Eva, Gloria and Lucille; and two granddaughters. A son, Leon Kostkowski Jr., died July 21, 1992; a sister, "Sissy" Julia Anna, and his former wife, Judy Scharch, are deceased.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Ridgely Cemetery.
Emil W. Lindner
TOWSON - Emil W. Lindner of Towson died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at Oak Crest Care Center, Parkville. He was 89.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Gertrude and Max Lindner.
Mr. Lindner is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine James of Cambridge; a brother, George Lindner of Denton; a son, Dennis Lindner, of Baltimore; and two granddaughters.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 12, at Towson Methodist Church.
