Evelyn C.B. West
CARLISLE, Pa. - Evelyn C. Brown West, 80, of Thornwald Nursing Home, and formerly of 301 W. First St., Boiling Springs, Pa., died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 30, 1917, in the Roadside area, Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anges G. and Ruth Kipe Brown. She lived her early life in the Waynesboro, Pa., area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max W. West.
She was a 1935 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a member of Boiling Springs VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Martin of Boiling Springs; one sister, Charlotte M. Hess of Waynesboro; one brother, Sterling L. Brown of Waynesboro; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances R. Stitely; and one brother, Wilbur G. Brown.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Pastor Prue Yelinek will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.
Ella F.G. Barrett
BLACKSTONE, Va. - Ella Feltner Grove Barrett, 96, of Blackstone, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blackstone.
Born Dec. 19, 1900, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late A. Francis and Addie Smith Feltner.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Berkley E. Grove and John W. Barrett.
She is survived by two daughters, Sara V. McKeown of West Columbia, S.C., and Gem Jenkins of Blackstone; two sons, Bill Grove of Laurel, Md., and Derwood Grove of Panama City, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles F. Grove and Berkley E. Grove Jr.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. Ray Roberson will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
James N. Symons
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James Norman Symons, 86, of Martinsburg, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 13, 1911, in Bluemont, Va., he was the son of the late John A. and Nellie P. William Symons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mable Murphy Symons.
He retired from Martin-Marietta.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Keiter Symons; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Luther C. Dockeney
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Luther C. "Sonny" Dockeney, 61, of Hedgesville, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 25, 1935, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Luther M. and Nellie Ritenour Dockeney.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was the caretaker at Salvation Army Camp for more than 32 years.
He was a member of the Salvation Army Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fellers Dockeney; one daughter, Bonny Fellers Mason of Hedgesville; two sisters, Mabel Springer of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Dorothy Breeden of Rochester, W.Va.; one brother, Norman Dockeney of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Kerns, Thelma Breeden, Sarah Mullin and Betty Springer; and one brother, Thomas M. Dockeney.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Salvation Army Camp Grounds chapel, Tomahawk, W.Va. Maj. William Mockabee and Maj. David Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Herbert G. Lindewurth Jr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Herbert George Lindewurth Jr., 60, of 11742 Kemps Mill Road, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 30, 1937, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Herbert George and Marion Ida Still Lindewurth.
He had a bachelor of divinity from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary and a bachelor of science degree from Wagner College of New York.
He was a pastor for 26 years for the Lutheran Church and retired in 1986. He was the owner/manager of the Gentle Nudge Health Food Store for the past 14 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He was a member of the local Pigeon Club.
He was given the key to the City of Nanticoke, Pa., for his work in disaster rescue.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Carr Lindewurth; one daughter, Teresa L. Doudna of Williamsport; four sons, Michael D. Lindewurth of Fayetteville, Pa., Bryan P. Lindewurth of Minnesota, Christopher S. Lindewurth of Williamsport and Daniel E. Walter of Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Dorthea Danenfeltzer of Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, Daniel P. Lindewurth of Cotekill, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lappans Road, Williamsport. Pastor Brian Stevenson, Pastor Timothy Roosenberg and Pastor Keith Acker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Friends may call at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.
Helen I. Beckley
Helen Irene Beckley, 91, of 11029 Roessner Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Larkin Chase NSG & Restorative Center, Bowie, Md.
Born Jan. 29, 1906, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Fannie M. Smith.
She was employed as a sales clerk by Fleisher's Department Store and cleaned houses.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsport, for more than 50 years. She was a member of Dale Anderson Sunday School Class and Ladies Circle Group.
She was active in the Lions Eye Bank in Seabrook, Md.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma Stottlemyer of Bowie and Betty Yeager of Mercersburg, Pa.; one son, Donald Beckley of Clear Spring; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday.

Walter F. Lane Sr.
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Walter F. Lane Sr., 62, of HC 75, Box 40, who died Saturday, May 31, 1997, was a veteran of the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Germany.
Frederick A. Brunngraber
Frederick Albert Brunngraber, 78, of 18901 Rolling Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Homewood Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 19, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frederick C. and Anna Rowland Brunngraber.
He owned and operated Fred's Store for 49 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the Records Division of the 5th Army in Africa and Italy.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42, Last Man's Club, Fountain Head Country Club, Washington County Sportsman's Association, and a former member of B.P.O. Elks 378.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Paxson Brunngraber; one stepgranddaughter, Robin L. Crockett of Hagerstown; and one stepgrandson, Jeffery D. Crockett of Manassas, Va.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, James E. Crockett.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Willard F. Rahn will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery
with graveside military honors conducted by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Ruth M. Gilbert
FREDERICK, Md. - Ruth M. Gilbert, 83, of Clarke Place, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1913, in Mapleville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Fannie Mae Reeder Byrem.
Her husband, William E. Gilbert, died in 1973.
She was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church, Benevola.
She is survived by one son, Lloyd Gilbert of Middletown, Md.; one foster daughter, Catherine Cline of Smithsburg; four grandchildren, Brian Gilbert of Wolfsville, Md., Robert Webb and Melissa Cline, both of Smithsburg, and Cathy Hawse of Cascade; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren in Myersville, Md. The Rev. Ronald A. Beverlin will officiate. Burial will be in Benevola United Methodist Cemetery
in Benevola.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home in Myersville.
