FLORA SMITH
LONACONING - Flora (Muir) Smith, 91, of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of 16001 Bucks Hill Road, Lonaconing, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 26, 1907, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Rankin and Nellie (Jones) Muir. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Smith, on May 21, 1985; and a twin sister, Jane (Muir) Haney, in 1950.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, and the Esther Circle of the church; and Central Alumni Association.
Surviving are four daughters, Billie Jane Laughlin, Chardon, Ohio, Nellie Ann Woods, Lonaconing, Louise Johnson, Frostburg, and Jeanie Kay Shockey, Lonaconing; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Shussett officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
The body will taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Tom Shockey, Chris Shockey, Jeff Johnson, Jason Nelson and Shawn Nelson; and Bob Muir.
GLENN DAVIS SMITH
LAPLATA - Glenn Davis Smith, 70, of LaPlata, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. He was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Richland, Va.
He graduated from Maryville College. He was a member of Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church, Waldorf. He was an engineer for the U.S. Federal Government.
Surviving are his wife, Muriel H. Smith; two daughters, Karen Smith, Bethesda, Brenda Damario, Owings; two sons, Kenneth Smith, Chadds Ford, Pa., Terry Smith, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters; one brother; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church, Waldorf, with the Rev. Don Benjamin officiating.

JOHN "HOOPER" SMITH
ZIHLMAN - John F. "Hooper" Smith, age 68, of 10954 Green Row Road, N.W., Frostburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 26, 1929, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late John and Lyda (Sigler) Smith. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Keel.
Mr. Smith was a retired conductor from the CSX Railroad. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Munich, Germany, as an ambulance driver with the medical corps. He was a life member of Old Rail Post #6025 V.F.W., Mount Savage.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Helen (Rice) Smith; one daughter, Karen Lancaster and husband, Larry; two grandchildren, Heather Lancaster and John Lancaster, all of Zihlman; one brother, Ernest Smith, Mount Savage; two sisters, Agnes Brewer, Santee, Calif., and Anna Merrbach, Zihlman; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Smith's request his body was cremated. There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements were under the direction of the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg.
JOSEPH SMITH
OAKLAND - Joseph Smith, age 92, of 848 Memorial Drive, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1905, in Unity, Pa., and was a son of the late John and Julie Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired carpenter; a life member of Lodge #786 Loyal Order of Moose; and a 50-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lela (Whitmer) Smith, in 1984; and one step-daughter.
He is survived by two step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Richard Spencer officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.
MARY M. SMITH
FROSTBURG - Mary M. Smith, 78, of Frostburg, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 11, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John Ware. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Smith; a son, John Smith; and a brother, William Ware.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are three sons, Ronal Smith and wife, Virginia, Frostburg, Carl Smith, Eckhart, and Harry P. Smith and wife, Marcia, LaVale; ten grandchildren, April Sarver, Ronal Smith, Kelly Smith, Heather Smith, Corey Smith, Beth Smith, Alison Smith, Micah Smith, Ricky Smith and Harry Wayne Smith; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Ware, Frostburg.
The body will be cremated. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Tom Staup officiating.
Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
MCCAFFREY J. SMITH
FROSTBURG - McCaffrey J. "Mac" Smith, 62, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998.
Born Aug. 25, 1935, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James H. and Margaret (Feldmann) Smith.
Mr. Smith was the owner and operator of The Pour House, Frostburg. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. A 1953 graduate of Beall High School, he also had been in the National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Peggy" (Seifarth) Smith; one son, Andrew "Andy" Smith and wife Yvonne, Frostburg; one daughter, Annette Flanigan and husband Robert, Frostburg; one grandson, Max Patrick Flanigan; four sisters, Rose Marie "Rosie" Hite and husband Gordon, Cumberland, Margaret Alice "Margie" Keegan, Cumberland, and his twin sister Elizabeth Ann "Libby" McMorran, and Catherine Cecelia "CC" Smith, both of Frostburg; and nieces and nephews Julie, Jamie, Matt, Diane, Denise and Billy.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Michael's cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matt McMorran, Tim Woodring, Bill Hardy, Billy Keegan, Brett Stegmaier and Shawn Hardy.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
MELVIN DAVID SMITH
LONACONING - Melvin David Smith, 67, of 67 Douglas Ave., Lonaconing, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at home.
Born on Nov. 9, 1930, in Garrett County, he was the son of Christina (Broadwater) Smith, Cuppett Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, and the late Porter Smith. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Smith and Harold Smith; and one son, Rodney Smith.
Mr. Smith was retired from Mack Truck of Hagerstown, with 25 years of service, and he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by seven sons, Jeff Elkins, and wife, Lois, Pekin, David Smith, and wife, Ruth, Robert Smith, and wife, Robin, all of Lonaconing, Ronald Smith, and wife, Sharon, Frostburg, Gregory Smith, and fiancee, Jill, Hagerstown, Denny Smith, and friend, Candy, Lonaconing, Samuel Smith, Chambersburg, Pa.; one daughter, Sheri Sines, and husband, Mark, Millington, Tenn.; one sister, Virginia Smith, Frederick; two brothers, Edison Smith, Lonaconing, and Robert Dewitt, Kingwood, W.Va.; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Tuesday, May 26, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, May 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel on Thursday, May 28, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Robert Smith.
Interment will be in the Broadwater cemetery, Dry Run.
Pallbearers will be Jason Elkins, John Smith, Mike Smith, Mark Sines, Sam Colmer and Eddie Thomas.
