LOUIS E. DANIELS, JR.
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Louis Earl Daniels Jr., 57, of Midlothian, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, in Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond.
Born June 15, 1940, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Virginia Alice (Hott) Daniels, Cumberland, and the late Louis E. Daniels, Sr.

Mr. Daniels was employed by CSX Railroad as a District Project Engineer. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, and was a member and past commander of the VFW Post No. 6452, Ridgeley, W.Va.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Pat (Simmons) Daniels; three sons, Douglas, Michael and David, all of Akron, Ohio; one daughter, Catherine, Richmond, Va.; a sister, Rita Leatherman, Annapolis; a brother, John B. Daniels, Cumberland; and eight grandchldren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home by Ridgeley VFW Post No. 6452.

JESSIE F. HOWSARE
CUMBERLAND - Jessie F. Howsare, 98, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 7, 1898, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Benjamin and Martha Delia (Halterman) Grady. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Guy H. Combs and Coyle W. Howsare; and one daughter, Wanda O. Bittner. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Howsare was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are one son, Earl L. Combs and wife Doris, LaVale; one daughter, Eunice A. Ballou, Cumberland; eight grandchildren, Patricia A. Phillips and husband Phil, Cumberland, James L. Bittner and wife Jackie, Ridgeley, W.Va., Helen A. Baker and husband George, Cumberland, Vickie M. Michael and husband Terry, Paw Paw, W.Va., Earl L. Combs Jr., Washington, D.C., Holly B. Taylor and husband Jim, LaVale, Darlene G. Ellsworth and husband Terry, LaVale, and Bonnie Monroe and husband Stewart, Cumberland; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

CHARLES M. EVANS
CRESAPTOWN - Charles M. Evans, 81, of Cresaptown, died Sunday, June 19, 1997, at the Veterans Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Born July 12, 1915, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Felix and Rosa (O'Brien) Evans. He also was preceded in death by one brother, William Evans; and one sister, Ethel Skinner.

Mr. Evans was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Local 489 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, a member of the United Brethren Church, and a member of the Amvets and Cresaptown Eagles. Mr. Evans also was a former Constable of Creasptown.

Surviving are his wife, Zetta Evans; two sons, James Evans and wife Karen, and Terry Evans; one daughter, Janet Adams and husband Rusty; two brothers, Arthur Evans and Clarence Evans, all of Cumberland; and seven grandchildren, Chantal Hartley, Danielle Evans, Traci Kerns, Jaime Evans, Charles Evans, Michael Adams and Andrea Adams.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Mark Peterson and Frances "Jake" Michaels officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Strickland, Rusty Adams, Randy Hartley, Jessie Jones, Royce Breedlove, and Chad Evans.

MARTHA M. BROOKHART
OAKLAND - Martha M. "Pat" Brookhart, 93, of Oakland, died on Tuesday at her home. Born Oct. 23, 1903, in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Engle and Etta (Layman) Engle.
Mrs. Brookhart was a retired schoolteacher and social worker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a past member of the Oakland Civic Club, former Cub Scout den mother, and a former girl scout leader.

Surviving are her husband, Maurice S. Brookhart; one son, Maurice S. Brookhart III, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.

KATIE M. CALHOUN
RAWLINGS - Katie Mae Calhoun, 76, of McMullen Highway, Rawlings, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1921, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Kate (MacMillian) Dorsey. She also was preceded in death by her husband John A. Calhoun, in 1986.

Mrs. Calhoun was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother, and who had many friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra M. Cline, Cumberland, Eunice Kreiger and husband David, Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Joseph Dorsey, Frederick, and Tom Dorsey, Mount Savage; four sisters, Alma Myers, Mount Savage, Teresa Daugherty, Shirley Campbell, both of Akron, Ohio, and Thelma Pait, Baltimore; five grandchildren, Stacey, Erika, Matthew, Mike and Ann; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at noon with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.

Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Believer's Fellowship, Keyser, WV.

CHARLES E. BROOKLEY
FROSTBURG - Charles Edward Brookley, 65, of Frostburg, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on March 31, 1931, in LaVale, he was the son of the late Conrad E. and Ethel D. (Timbrook) Brookley. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Reb.

Mr. Brookley was a graduate of a very close Fort Hill High School class of 1949, a graduate of the University of Maryland in 1953, and an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of the Nemacolin Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He retired as owner of Thermogage, Inc.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou (Sanner) Brookley; a son, Craig L. Brookley, Frostburg; and a sister, Patricia J. Richards, Carlos.

Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daren L. Ritchey officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park.

ESTHER M. EVANS
CUMBERLAND - Esther M. Evans, 61, of Valley Road, Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 20, 1936, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George Dewey and Edna Marie (Hipp) Evans. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, LaDawn Marie Evans.

Mrs. Evans was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Evan N. Evans; two daughters, Deborah A. Evans, Cumberland, and Sharon R. Evans, Frostburg; four brothers, John Evans, Baltimore, Wilbert Evans, Swanton, Olan Evans, Big Bear Lake, W.Va., and Donald B. Evans, Gaithersburg; two sisters, Leona Thren, Beverly Hills, Fla., and Dorothy Sisler, Three Rivers, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. F. Richard Leslie officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jack Evans, Mark Evans, Steve Evans, David Kukanich, Butch Kukanich and King Miller.
