Cire, Audrey Lee

Audrey Lee Cire, a long-time resident of Cambridge, died in hospice care on January 17, 2015 in Silver Spring. MD.

Mrs. Cire was born in Mississippi on October 4, 1928. She attended high school and junior college in Mississippi and married Robert A. Cire, a former teacher at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, in 1947. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2009. They lived in New York City, Mississippi, Alabama, and New Jersey before moving to Dorchester County in 1970. She worked as a teacher's aide at Secretary Elementary School in the mid-1970s.

Mrs. Cire was a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker extraordinare. She was a talented cook and an expert seamstress. She enjoyed living in the country and growing and preserving vegetables and fruits. She could and did sew everything, including clothes for every family member, as well as drapes, curtains, slipcovers, and other items. She also embroidered many wall hangings and decorated pillowcases.

Mrs. Cire is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Cire, of Silver Spring; her son R. Al Cire, Jr., of Montvale, VA, and her sister, N. Lawanna Simpson, of Caesar, MS. Her daughter, Frances A. Custis, died in 2012. Other family members include grandchildren Levi D. Custis, Hannah M. Custis, A. Elizabeth Ball, and Rhiannon M., Shayleigh M., and Rowan A. Cire.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Burial will be private. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Holy Cross Hospice, 1500 Forest Glen Rd. Silver Spring, MD, 20910

Frampton, Sally Harper

Sally Harper Frampton, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Cambridge on July 23, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Herbert Lee Harper and Marguerite Phillips Harper.

Mrs. Frampton graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1947 and later graduated from Easton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in August 31, 1951. She was a register nurse and was employed at Easton Memorial Hospital and later at the Eastern Shore State Hospital in Cambridge. On November 12, 1954, she married Joseph W. Frampton, Sr., who passed away on January 12, 1997. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son Joseph W. Frampton, Jr. and wife Kellee of Cambridge, a daughter Sally Ann Glynn and husband Joseph of Gainesville, FL, and seven grandchildren Michael Booze, Donald Niebyl, William Niebyl, Joseph Niebyl, Alyssa Frampton, Joseph Frampton III, Steven Frampton and one step grandson David Billings. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Frampton is prceded in death by a sister Alice May Cole, a brother Walter Lee Harper and a granddaughter Elizabeth Macey Frampton.

Mrs. Frampton has request that there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

White, Sr., John C.

John Curtis White, Sr., 88, died on January 15, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was the founder of Johnny's Shoe Shop.

John was born in Seaford, Delaware on January 31, 1926, to the late Elwood McCready and Ruth Elizabeth Curtis White. The family moved to Cambridge in 1929, and have made the city their home since then.

He graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1943. John learned the shoe repair business from George Meiser and, in 1948, opened his own shoe repair shop in a small building in the 700 Block of Race Street, where the Bradford House Apartments now stand. He called his business Johnny's Shoe Shop. The retail portion of the business continued to grow until, in the mid-1960's, Johnny's moved to 524 Race Street, where it was located until the time of its closing in 1997.

One of the accomplishments of which John was most proud was the founding of the Richardson Maritime Museum. As the founder and first president of the museum, John spent countless hours writing grants and negotiating with local and state officials to launch the project.

When John was 12 years old, he and his family joined the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was dedicated to and loved his church, holding a number of offices during his lifetime including Sabbath School superintendent, Sabbath School teacher, and elder. He remained a member of the church until the time of his death.

On November 3, 1949, John married the former Betty Lee Moore of Chestertown, Maryland. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Curtis, Jr., and Sue Locklear White. He is also survived by three granddaughters and their husbands: Caroline Baker and Thomas A. Howell, V., Victoria Ashley and John Charles Willey, and Elizabeth Locklear and John Robert Russell, III. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Thomas A. Howell, VI, John White Howell, Eleanor Jones Howell, Kathleen Patricia Stanley, and Nathan Andrew Willey. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by an infant daughter, Victoria Lynn, and a sister, Dorothy White Murphy.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3105 Mallard Court, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Willey, Dorothy H.

Dorothy H. Willey, 80, of Hurlock formerly of Vienna passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born on October 16, 1935 in Salem and was a daughter of the late Wm. Carl and Marian Marshall Humphreys.

Mrs. Willey attended schools in Vienna. On August 29, 1952, she married E. Randall Willey, who passed away on December 27, 2002. She worked at garment factories, Airpax and later at Black & Decker in Easton where she retired. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, crocheting and doing puzzles.

She is survived by her son Randy L. Willey and wife Frances of Hurlock.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Barrow, Dorsey E.

Dorsey E. Barrow, 91, of East New Market passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at UMSMC at Easton. He was born in Talbot County on March 17, 1923 and was a son of the late Bernard and Lillian Dyott Barrow.

Mr. Barrow attended schools in St. Michaels. On September 2, 1949, he married the former Dorothy Hurley. Mr. Barrow worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth as a machinist and retired in 1988. He was a motorcycle enthusiast. Mr. Barrow loved his Harley Davidson and enjoyed buying new cars.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Barrow of East New Market, two nephews Jerry Barrow and wife Sharon of Tilghman Island and James "Butch" Barrow and wife Janice of Denton and several other nieces and nephews, a godchild Dorothy Lee Simmons and husband Robert of East New Market. Besides his parents, Mr. Barrow is preceded in death by two brothers Russell and Henry and two sisters Ann and Grace.

At Mr. Barrow request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge.

Fairbanks, Jr., James E. "Jimmy"

James E. "Jimmy" Fairbanks, Jr., 74, of Milford passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on June 6, 1940 to the late James E. and Elsie Bell Fairbanks, Sr.

James joined the U.S. Army. After the military he moved to New York City later moving to Milford, DE to be closer to his sister. He enjoyed photography, painting and going to auctions and flea markets.

He is survived by two sisters Sandra Ruark and husband Mark of Milford, Anita Lauck and husband Duger of Secretary, two nieces, a nephew and a great nephew. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a son Danny Fairbanks.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to The ALS Association Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 605, Albert Lea, MN 56007.

Wheedleton, Franklin R.

Franklin R. Wheedleton, 80, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester surrounded by his family. He was born in Cambridge on January 22, 1934 to the late Oliver Wheedleton and Margaret A. Montgomery.

Mr. Wheedleton was an avid collector and recycler. He was also a huge animal lover. He married the former Nellie J. Holley on June 21, 1963. Franklin worked for Phillips Canning Company, Rob Roy and the Dorchester County Office Building from which he retired on June 1, 1999 after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Nellie Wheedleton, two daughters Betty Wells and husband Bruce of Austin, TX and Cheryl Lyons of New Castle, DE, a sister Patricia R. Hurley and husband Ronald of Cambridge, a grandson Christopher Lyons, Jr. and two great grandchildren CJ and Kira Lyons. Besides his mother he is preceded in death by a sister Mary Ellen Wheedleton, a son in law William C. Lyons and three beloved dogs Taffy, Duke and Peanut. He will surely be missed.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.

Wilde, Sr., David H.

David H. Wilde, Sr., 64, of Denton passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at UMSMC at Easton. He was born on January 17, 1950 in Annapolis and was a son of the late Delmar and Irene Cornell Wilde.

David graduated from Annapolis High School. He was a shop foreman at Oxford Boatyard. David enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson, hunting, his church, loved the outdoors and his family. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association where he served as vice president. David was also a member of Bounds United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker and a Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his wife Lana D. Wilde of Denton, three children from a previous marriage David Wilde, Jr. of Annapolis, Kim Wilde-Downes and husband Jay of Ridgely and Chris Wilde and wife Lauren of Grasonville, two grandchildren Nadia Wilde and Farrah Wilde, a brother Wesley Wilde of Annapolis and a sister Janice Dillard and husband Jack of Elkton, two nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Wilde, Jr., Chris Wilde, Ralph Kirby, Jay Downes, Anthony Hughes and Clifton Dize. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Sumner, Josh Fitzhugh and Bob Vogel.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Gary Crouch officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, c/o Doris Lewis, 3347 Golden Hill Rd., Church Creek, MD 21622.
