MacCallum, Warren C.

Warren W. MacCallum, Jr., 74, of Toddville passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2006 at his home. He was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on March 14, 1932 and was a son of the late Warren W. and Virginia Pearse MacCallum.

Mr. MacCallum graduated from Weymouth high school in 1950 and went on to Massachusetts Maritime Academy and graduated in 1954. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 and received his honorable discharge in 1960. On August 24, 1968 he married Diana Smith. Mr. MacCallum had worked for Powell and Minnock Brickworks in Coeymans, NY as an operator engineer until he retired in 1997. He was an avid sailor.

He is survived by his wife Diana MacCallum of Toddville, children Robert P. Barry of Colorado, Pamela Way and her husband Kevin of Pine Plains, NY, Christopher Barry and his wife Irene of Colorado, Ian MacCallum and his wife Beth of Albany, NY, children from his previous marriage Steven W. MacCallum, John W. MacCallum, Ellen R. MacCallum and Jane MacCallum, a sister Nancy J. Hopper of Placerville, CA and three nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Thomas United Methodist Church, C/O Phyllis Mills, 1817 Crocheron Rd., Bishops Head, MD 21672. Thomas Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Macer, Ida Rebecca Wongus

Ida Rebecca Wongus Macer of Federalsburg, MD, known fondly as "Becky" died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 79.

She was born on August 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Willie F. Wongus and Isabella Bowens Wongus.

She worked at Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg for over fifty-five years retiring in 1999 as a press operator. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Eldorado, MD. She sang in the Wonder Star Choir. She was also a wonderful homemaker and served her family as the "Family Advisor".

She is survived by her children, Dora Jackson and Dorothy Adams both of Federalsburg, Alphonso Macer of Cordova, and Floretta Austin of Seaford, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Baynard of Concord, MD, three brothers, Daniel and Otho Wongus both of Cambridge, and Eddie Ross of Baltimore, four children she raised as her own, Joel Macer, Yolanda Macer, Travon Nichols, and Darrell Nichols, all of Federalsburg. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabella Wongus, Dora Jones, four brothers, James Wongus, Willie Wongus, Charles Wongus, and Stephen Wongus.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 10:00 am at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with Rev. Stanley Ricketts officiating. Interment will follow at Chester Cemetery in Rhodesdale, MD. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Yates, Eleanora L.

Eleanora L. Yates, 84, of Cambridge, passed away late Saturday night, March 17, 2001 at the Chesapeake Woods Center. She was the wife of the late Judge William B. Yates and has been in failing health for the past year.

She was born in Sharptown on January 17, 1917, the daughter of the late William Edward and Jerusha Hurley Lowe. She was a graduate of Sharptown High School and later became a Registered Nurse after graduation from the Cambridge-Maryland Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Yates pursued a career in nursing at the Cambridge-Maryland Hospital and the Dorchester County Health Department, retiring in 1966. She was married to Mr. Yates on December 15, 1938. Mr. Yates, who was a retired Dorchester County District Court Judge passed away on May 21, 1996.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Cambridge Yacht Club.

She is survived by one daughter; Mary Y. Vaeth of Cambridge, one son; William Baine Yates, III of Snow Hill and his wife, Martha, five grandchildren; Charles C. Hillyer, III, William Y. Hillyer, W. Sherwood Yates, Sidney B. Yates and Casandra Y. Peterson, six great-grandchildren; three sisters; Naomi Owens of Chester, MD, Edna Huston of Sharptown, and Betty Collison of Cambridge; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by three brothers Levin Lowe, Fulton Lowe, and Roy Lowe, and one sister Marie Hastings.

A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Friends will be received at the church during the hour before the service. Interment will take place in Old Trinity Churchyard. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, c/o Shirley Kailianu, 8 Somerset Ave., Cambridge MD 21613. Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.

Mace, Helen C.

Helen C. Mace, 90, of Taylors Island, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Saturday July 19, 2003. She was born in Clark County, Virginia on June 30, 1913, and was a daughter of the late John William and Hannah Marlow Wilson.

She attended public schools in West Virginia. On December 6, 1941 she was married to Paul Edward Mace. During WW II she had worked at a Defense Plant in Pennsylvania. She later worked as a weaver in a silk mill in York, PA. She and Mr. Mace moved to Taylors Island in 1947. She received her LPN Training at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center where she worked as an LPN for 23 years until she retired in 1976. Mr. Mace passed away on October 12, 2001. Mrs. Mace was a member of Grace Episcopal Church at Taylors Island. She had been in failing health for several months, and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for three months where she passed away on Saturday afternoon.

Survivors include two sons, John Jackson Corder of Wichita Falls, Texas and Paul A. Mace and his wife Lisa Mace of Taylors Island; five grandchildren, John Charles Corder, Jeffrey Corder, Sandra Corder, D'Lyn Kort and Jenifer Kort and two great granddaughters Haley and Tayler. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel by Rev. Bob Kirkley. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Taylors Island Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 277, Taylors Island, MD 21669. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Laird, Denny "Bebop"

DENNY "BEBOP" LAIRD, 49, of Marion Station, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield on February 7, 1960, he was a son of the late Jackie Howard and Helen Elizabeth Lee Laird.

He was a 1979 graduate of Crisfield High School and a 1989 graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a degree in physical education. He was a member of Eastern Shore Evangelistic Church in Marion Station and he loved sports, especially softball and soccer.

He is survived by two daughters, Heather R. Laird-Rudd and her husband Jason of Mardela and Ashley M. Laird of Marion Station; two grandchildren, Logan M. Rudd and Mason L. Rudd; two brothers, Buck Laird and his wife Marilyn of Crisfield and Billy Laird and his wife Dorothy of Berlin; a sister, Rose Marie Thomas and her husband Mike of Westover; his former wife, Marie "Dinky" Laird of Marion Station; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Howard Laird, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 6 PM at Eastern Shore Evangelistic Church in Marion Station where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Jerry Hughes will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help the family with expenses may be sent to Heather R. Rudd, 9122 Whitetail Drive, Mardela, Maryland 21837.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Aaron, Leona B.

Leona B. Aaron, 93, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born on March 22, 1914 in Cambridge and was a daughter of the late Leland and Alice LeCompte Beckwith.

Mrs. Aaron graduated from Cambridge Seminary. On October 28, 1933 she married Vernon A. Aaron who passed away on July 1, 2005. They were married for 73 years. In her earlier years she had worked at a sewing factory, then worked at Whitey's and finally Life'O'Gen where she retired. Some of her hobbies were cooking, canning, crocheting and flower gardening. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Aaron is survived by a daughter Marian A. Fleischer of Dover, grandchildren Debbie L. Waldron of Dover and Scott L. Waldron and wife Joanne of Hunt Valley, a great grandson Scott L. Waldron, Jr., a sister Rachel Mayne of Cambridge and a brother Leland Beckwith East New Market, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her son in law Robert D. Fleischer and a sister Clara Spedden.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Dorchester County, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Laird, Ada

ADA MAE LAIRD, 82, of Crisfield, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2007 from Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield where she had been a resident for several years.

Born in Crisfield on June 17, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Lucious and Mamie Pestridge Lewis.

She was a retired clerk, working 27 years at the former W. T. Grant Company and 11 years at the former Carvel Hall Cutlery. She had been a faithful member of the Crisfield Church of God all her life.

She was a devoted wife, and was great at everything she did in the eyes of her husband.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, John William Laird, Jr. of Crisfield; her sister, Myrtle Parkinson of Crisfield; her brother, Lawrence Lewis and his wife Rae of Milford, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield. The Rev. Philip Morris will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Samuel Horner. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield.

Lacy, Joan Elizabeth

Joan Elizabeth Lacy of Galestown, MD known fondly as "Joanie" passed away at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD on Thursday, October 19, 2006. She was 42.

She was born on December 9, 1963 in Washington, D.C. the daughter of Francis "Franny" Kernan Barnhard of Frankford, DE, and the late John W. Barnhard, Sr.

She was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School. She had worked for eighteen years as a bus driver for the Montgomery County School System. She was a motorcycle enthusiast, she enjoyed fishing, and loved all animals especially horses.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ronnie Lee Lacy of Laurel, DE, two sons, Brandon Clay Begley of King George, VA, John Payton Lacy, III of Galestown, MD, two step-children, John Wilson Lacy and Amber Lee Bradley both of Nashville, TN, two brothers, John W. "Jay" Barnhard, Jr. of Frankford, DE, Timothy H. "Tim" Barnhard of Elkridge, MD, a sister, Patricia Ann "Patti" Feldman of Clearwater, FL, devoted friends, Phillip James Brock, Sr. of Galestown, Adina H. Barnett of Rhodesdale, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with Rev. Delmer Willey officiating. Interment will follow at Brookview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her memory to the Brookview United Methodist Church c/o Clark Simms, 5474 Indiantown Rd., Rhodesdale, MD 21659 or to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
