George S. Miner
George Scott Miner, 85, of 711 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at his home.
Born July 27, 1911, in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late Walter W. and Sarah Martin Miner.
He retired in 1980 from Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co. after 35 years.
He was a former member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Cearfoss.
He was a member of Green Ridge Sportsman's Club and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Irene Miner; three sons, Robert S. Miner and Ronald L. Miner, both of Boonsboro, and Larry Wayne Miner of Hagerstown; one sister, Edna Robinson of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Spickler and Sarah Irene Miner; and two brothers, Bernard Miner and Walter K. Miner.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery
in Ringgold.
Virginia L. Knight
Virginia L. Knight, 56, of 248 Belview Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 7, 1941, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Ida M. Clingerman Norris of Little Orleans, Md., and the late Roy R. Norris.
She retired from Roxbury Correctional Institution, where she was a dietary officer for 12 years, following her employment at Washington County Hospital.
She attended Price Wesleyan Church of Little Orleans.
She was a member of the auxiliaries of American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown and F.O.E. Aerie 694; and a member of Red Feather Council 59 of Williamsport.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Vicki L. Fisher and Susan L. Tibbens, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Linda D. Fletcher of Little Orleans; three brothers, Robert D. Norris of Little Orleans, Gary W. Norris of Hastings, N.Y., and Marshall Norris of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Jean Norris; one brother, Frederick Norris; and one grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl G. McClain will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Walter I. Gormley
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Walter I. Gormley, 79, of 112 Hillside Drive, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1917, in Reading, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter M. and Loretta Impink Gormley. He was the stepson of the late Clara M. Gormley.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserve.
He was employed by Olin Mills Photographers, and later was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, serving one year at the Inventory Control Center in Long Binh, Vietnam. For 16 years, he was a computer program analyst for L.S.S.A., retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, where he was a director of the Sunday school class.
He was a member of Gettysburg VFW, and Burt J. Asper Post American Legion, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Kyung Sook Kang Gormley; one daughter, Pamela Forlini-Rowe of Wyomissing, Pa.; three sons, W. Robert Gormley of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Claude K. Gormley of Wheaton, Md., and Jeffery K. Gormley of Chambersburg; one sister, Patricia Hoffman of Reading; two stepsisters, Grace Weibley of Elkton, Md., and Margaret Hughes; one stepbrother, Daniel Moser of Reading; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, 221 N. Main St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Richard D. Sigler and Greg Garman will officiate. Burial will be Monday, July 21, at 11 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the church chapel Saturday at 10 a.m.

Harold W. Wilt
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Harold Worthington Wilt, 72, of Hostler Road, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born March 11, 1925, in Halltown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Annie Elizabeth Dillow Wilt.
He operated Wilt's Fruit Stand in Harpers Ferry for 40 years.
He was a member of Halltown Church of God in Halltown.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Audrey McDonald Wilt; four daughters, Ginger Grove of Silver Grove, W.Va., Joyce Ketron of Halltown, Cissy Simmons of Glengary, W.Va., and Alice Cook of Bolivar, W.Va.; five sons, Robert Wilt and Larry Wilt, both of Halltown, Buster Wilt and David Wilt, both of Harpers Ferry, and Jerry Wilt of Leetown, W.Va.; four sisters, Josephine Daugherty of Rohrersville, Deloris Dodson of Ranson, W.Va., Betty Weakley of Bolivar, and Gloria Arvin of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Bussard; and four brothers, Danny Wilt, Junior Wilt, Cecil Wilt and Pastol Wilt.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Halltown Church of God. The Rev. Lee R. Strickler, the Rev. Linda Kennedy and the Rev. James R. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery
in Bolivar.
The family will receive friends at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Willie B. Wolfe
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Willie B. Wolfe, 81, of 10824 Easterday Road, Myersville, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Feb. 17, 1916, in Garfield, Md., he was the son of the late Walter A. and Bessie Himes Wolfe.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II. He participated in the Normandy invasion with Company B of the 29th Division and received the Purple Heart for wounds received at the battle of St. Lo. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal; the American Defense Service Medal; and the Normandy Liberation Medal.
He was a security guard at Roxbury Correctional Institution; Fort Detrick cancer research center; and Litton Bionetics, from which he retired.
He was a founding member of Catoctin Fish and Game Protective Association, Myersville; lifetime member of NRA; a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42, Hagerstown; Elks 378, Hagerstown; and AMVETS No. 9, Middletown.
He was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaRue Rowe Wolfe; two daughters, Nancy Bruce of Alexandria, Pa., and Sharon Anneson of Bowie, Md.; one son, Terry Wolfe of Middletown; three sisters, Oneata Brandenburg of Hagerstown; Catherine Walker of Ijamsville, Md., and Freda Zujac of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Garfield United Methodist Church, Garfield. The Rev. Randall Reid will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.

Blanche V. Armstrong
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Blanche Viola Armstrong, 93, formerly of 6620 Lincoln Way West., St. Thomas, and a resident of Michaux Manor Living Center since March, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Jan. 22, 1904, in St. Thomas, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Burkholder Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. David Unger Armstrong, on Dec. 2, 1977.
She was a licensed minister of Assemblies of God Church. She previously was employed by J.C. Penney as a seamstress until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Thomas Assembly of God Church, which she co-founded in 1946; a Sunday school teacher for 70 years; and was a noted speaker in churches in southcentral Pennsylvania.
She is survived by three daughters, Genevieve Lewis and Joan Shelly, both of Chambersburg, and Mary E. Long of St. Thomas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Alvin J. Hezlep and the Rev. R. Stanton Williams will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior the services at the church on Saturday.

Virginia P. Trail
HALLTOWN, W.Va. - Virginia Pauline Trail, 81, of Claremont at Halltown, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at her home.
Born April 3, 1916, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel Gray Sr. and Jessie Myrtle Hill Gray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Eugene Trail, who died in 1968.
She was a 1933 graduate of Harpers Ferry High School.
She was a retired office manager. She was previously employed by Hyman Viener and Sons, Charles Town, W.Va.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town; a former member of Bolivar United Methodist Church, Bolivar, W.Va., and a former member of Pollyanna Class and WSCS of Bolivar United Methodist Church.
She was a past president and member of Harpers Ferry Women's Club; and Jefferson County Historical Society.
Her home, Claremont, was a registered Jefferson County Historical Landmark.
She is survived by three sons, William Trail Jr. of Shepherdstown, W.Va., David Trail of Halltown and Mark Trail of Bolivar; two sisters, Mary Peacher of Charles Town and Jessie Clevenger of Halltown; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Nathaniel Gray Jr., Robert Gray, Charlie Gray, Hammel Gray, Samuel Gray and Norman Gray.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. - George F. Martz Jr., 74, of 1828 Gramercy Place, Hummelstown, formerly of Middletown, Pa., and Cumberland, Md., died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, Pa.
He was a retired Navy CPO.
He was retired from Lockheed Martin Corp., Baltimore.
He was a member of Seven Sorrows of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown, Pa.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3501, Middletown; American Legion Post 594, Middletown; Elks Lodge 1092, Middletown; and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Shannahan Assembly.
He is survived by his wife, Treva Eckert Siebert Martz; one daughter, Sharon Martz of New Jersey; one son, Gary A. Martz of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepson, George L. Siebert of Hagerstown; one sister, Iris Gillum of LaVale, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seven Sorrows of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery.
A viewing will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Matinchek and Daughter Funeral Home, 260 E. Main St., Middletown, Pa. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m., and an Elks memorial service will be at 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John D. Wasson Jr., 77, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Hedgesville, W.Va., he was a son of the late John D. and Biddie McCarty Wasson Sr.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW, Martinsburg; and Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beulah Jacobs Wasson; three daughters, Nancy Renfroe of Kingsland, Ga., Carol Kisamore of Charles Town, W.Va., and Kathy Potts of Martinsburg; one son, John D. Wasson III of Charles Town; two brothers, Frank Wasson of Williamsport and Paul Wasson of Martinsburg; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. James R. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
