Margaret H.H. Kline

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret H. Hixon Kline, 84, of 2417 Warm Spring Road, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Jan. 28, 1913, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Diller Wolf.

She lived her early life in Waynesboro and Kauffman Station, Pa.

She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Kline, who died June 29, 1988.

She helped with children at Milton Wright Memorial Home, Kauffman Station.

She was a member of St. James United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Eleanor L. Dickinson of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jerome L. Smith; and one sister, Goldie Wolf.

Private graveside services will be Monday at Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station. The Rev. Joel L. Christman and the Rev. Keith M. Sider will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. James United Brethren Church, 2404 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements are made by Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa.

Rosalie A. Stotelmyer

Rosalie Ann Stotelmyer, 53, a resident of Avalon Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 202 Bethlehem Court, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1944, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Mary Mohaley Seburn Maugan of Hagerstown and the late William Thomas Maugan.

She was a civilian employee as a purchasing agent with the U.S. Army, Fort Detrick, Frederick, Md.

She attended First Church of God, Rose Hill Avenue, Hagerstown.

She was a former member of Funkstown and St. James 4-H Club; and Parents with Partners.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Lisa Diane Reed of Mercersburg, Pa.; one sister, Bertha V. Dellinger of Hagerstown; and three nieces.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David Sword will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Herman L. Franklin Jr.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Herman Lee Franklin Jr., 27, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 26, 1969, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Rosalie Patricia Sheetz Franklin of Hedgesville, W.Va., and the late Herman Lee Franklin Sr.

He attended Hedgesville High School.

He was a self-employed carpenter.

He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Penny Juanita Wise at home; two daughters, Heather Nicole Franklin and Holly Elizabeth Franklin, both at home; three sisters, Wanda P. Barrett and Kay A. Franklin, both of Hedgesville, and Carol S. Franklin of Inwood, W.Va.; one brother, Shawn C. Franklin of Hedgesville; seven nieces; and one nephew.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Herman Lee Franklin Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

David W. Stocks

INWOOD, W.Va. - David Wayne Stocks, 37, of Inwood, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 8, 1959, at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., he is the son of Geraldine C. Hine Meyer and the late Emerson L. Stocks.

He was a 1977 graduate of Jefferson High School. He attended Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He was employed by The Jewel Box for 19 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Martin H. Meyer of Charles Town, W.Va.; his wife, Virginia Anderson Stocks, whom he married May 13, 1997, at home; one daughter, JoAnna Stocks of Charles Town; one stepson, William Anderson Jr. at home; one sister, Sharon Studer of Orlando, Fla.; and one brother, Emerson L. Stocks Jr. of Painesville, Ohio.

Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarissa K. Burgan

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Clarissa Kathleen Burgan, 85, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born July 25, 1912, in Frederick County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest S. and Anna Mae Stilwell Rubeck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Holland C. Burgan, who died Aug. 31, 1996.

She and her husband were owners and operators of Crown Hardware, Inc.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served as Sunday School teacher; Superintendent of Sunday School; and for more than 50 years was active on various committees.

She was a member of WELCA.

She is survived by one son, Holland Richard Burgan of Purcellville, Va.; three sisters, Lillian Frances Lewis of Winchester, Va., Olivia Myrtle Reed of Texas and Sylvia Mae Myers of Upton, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Clarissa Kathleen Burgan; one son, John Robert Burgan; one sister, Anna Elizabeth Caton; and one brother, John Douglas Burgan.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. The casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

James W. Honaker

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - James W. Honaker, 63, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at his home.

Born May 17, 1934, in Monroe County, W.Va., he was the son of "W.C." and Alma Sibold Honaker.

He was a 1952 graduate of Hedgesville High School.

He was a truck driver for United Parcel Service, Hagerstown; and operated Honaker Grocery Store for eight years.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1952-56.

He was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church.

He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose; and Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Marie Honaker at home; one daughter, Cynthia Marie Wood of Hedgesville; one brother, Jerry Honaker of Hedgesville; two sister, Jane Yost of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Pam Stickel of Bedington, W.Va.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Holdman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Graveside military services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard E. Updegraff

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Richard E. Updegraff, 32, of 1706 Anthony Highway, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at University Hospital/Hershey Medical Center, Derry Township, Pa., as a result of a single-car accident on Saturday, Aug. 2, on Pa. 997, Guilford Township, Pa., near Duffield Road.

Born July 24, 1965, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Lawrence L. Updegraff Jr. and Jean Short Updegraff of Fayetteville, Pa.

He was employed as a lift operator by Corning Glass, Greencastle, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Melissa J. Scott of Chambersburg; one brother, Steven E. Updegraff of Zullinger, Pa.; paternal grandfather, Lawrence L. Updegraff Sr. of Shippensburg, Pa.; one niece; one nephew; and his girlfriend, Sharon Besecker of Chambersburg.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Joel L. Christman will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

George C. Zinkhan Jr.

THURMONT, Md. - George C. "Doc" Zinkhan Jr., 78, of 13263 Creagerstown Road, and most recently a resident of Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.

Born Jan. 16, 1919, in Thurmont, he was the son of the late George Christian Zinkhan Sr. and Annie Lang Zinkhan.

He was a retired custodian with the Frederick County Board of Education. He had previously farmed on Jimtown Road, Thurmont.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Thurmont.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Miller Zinkhan; one son, George C. Zinkhan III of Thurmont; two cousins; nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be at the family's convenience at Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, today from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Alfred E. Gift

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Alfred E. Gift, 82, a resident of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of 12098 Blue Mountain Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 7, 1914, in Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Anna Dickel Gift.

He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was employed by the federal government at Fort Ritchie, Fort Detrick and in Berryville, Va. He then returned to Site R near Fort Ritchie. He retired in 1974 after suffering a stroke.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline A. Stockslager Gift, a resident of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, whom he married on June 19, 1937; one daughter, Victoria L. "Vicky" Bryner of Carlisle, Pa.; one son, Terry K. Gift of Waynesboro; one brother, George Gift of Portsmith, Va.; one stepbrother, Robert Helfrick of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor David Denham will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa.

There will be no public viewing or receiving of friends prior to the services.
