Evelyn L. Parsons

GLENGARY, W.Va. - Evelyn L. Parsons, 70, of Glengary, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born April 12, 1927, in Berkeley County, W.Va, she was the daughter of the late Amos Harwood and Ivy Pearl Mason Dunham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy P. Parsons.

She was assistant postmaster and postmaster of Glengary Post Office for more than 45 years. She was previously employed by Berkeley County Schools as a cook.

She was a member of Mount Carmel Church, where she served as treasurer and organist.

She was a member of Women's Republican Club; secretary of Berkeley County Republican Club; past chief of Pythian Sisters Columbia Temple 13; member of Belle Boyd Homemakers; president of Glengary Homemakers; member of Ridenour Fellowship; secretary of Rebekah's; member of UCT Ladies Auxiliary; Financial Secretary Daughters of America Shenandoah Council 65; pianist for State Daughters of America and past state counsellor of DOA.

She is survived by one son, Roy R. Parsons of Glengary; six brothers, Ollen Dunham of Jones Spring, W.Va., Paul Dunham of Inwood, W.Va. and Bobby Dunham, Max Dunham, Eugene Dunham and Glen Dunham, all of Glengary; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Azelea Bailey and Maxine Dunham; and two brothers, Floyd Dunham and Bruce Dunham.

Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Lester Kisner and the Rev. Frank Douty will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna R. Stotler

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Anna Rose Stotler, 68, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

Born Sept. 26, 1928, in Round Top, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rosalie Ellen Munday Maconaughey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Melvin Stotler Sr., who died Feb. 25, 1991.

She was a seasonal fruit processor with Musselman's Inc., Inwood, W.Va. She had been a homemaker in recent years.

She was a member of Word of Deliverance Center, Berkeley Springs.

She is survived by three daughters, Melvie T. Randall of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Shirley R. Willey and Patricia A. Weller, both of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Roger L. Stotler and Ray Melvin Stotler Jr., both of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Alice McBee, Shelvy Yost and Hattie Lineweaver, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Thomas Maconaughey of Berkeley Springs; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ellen Stotler; one sister, Jessie Kyne; five brothers, Elvy Ambrose, Henry Ambrose, Willard Maconaughey, Doug Maconaughey and Darly Maconaughey; and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Word of Deliverance Center, Harvest Road (just off county Route 13), Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Shirley Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. The funeral home will be open Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Lena V.N. McQuain

Lena Virginia Nutter McQuain, 84, of 1911 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 28, 1913, in Barbour County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Anthony Hamilton and Elizabeth Helmick Nutter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay David McQuain, who died in 1992.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School. She attended Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va., and business school in Washington, D.C.

She was a substitute teacher in Randolph County (W.Va.) Schools. She retired from U.S. government in 1974 with 30 years of service.

She was a past state president of Woodmen of the World, having served two terms as national representative, past state president of Maryland and D.C. fraternal congress and delegate to the national convention; and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She is survived by one son, Robert L. McQuain of Rogue River, Ore.; one sister, Mamie Crowley of Elkins; three brothers, Haymond Nutter, Fremond Nutter and Clyde Nutter, all of Elkins; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Mount State Memorial Garden, Elkins.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are made by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Catherine L. Tabler

Catherine Louise Tabler, 84, of 1158 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.

Born May 25, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Raymond T. and Edna Nichols Howard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Tabler, who died in 1966.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education in cafeteria service for 10 years, retiring in 1978. She was also employed by Eyerly's Department Store.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.

She was a member of AARP and Haven Lutheran Citizens Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Russell of Hagerstown; one sister, Helen Yowell of Salisbury, Md.; three brothers, George Howard of Martinsburg, W.Va., Robert Howard of Diggs, Va., and Thomas Howard of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Blanche E. Wernick

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Blanche E. Wernick, 80, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Dec. 26, 1916, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert S. and Clara Starliper Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Wernick.

She was retired from City Hospital, Martinsburg.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Terry M. Wernick of Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth S. Wernick; and two brothers, Russell S. Johnson and Paul W. Johnson.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred D. Little

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mildred Duckwall Little, 91, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home, Martinsburg.

Born May 23, 1906, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Tolbert J. and Anna Kees Michael.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. Duckwall, in 1922; and her second husband, Francis E. Little, in 1962.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Duckwall Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son, Francis E. Little of Martinsburg; one sister, Pauline Feeney of Milford, Va.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven nieces and 10 nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Mechem and Josie Kidwell; and seven brothers, Charles Michael Sr., George Michael, Lawrence Michael, Emmitt Michael, Guy Michael, Melvin Michael and Elmer Michael.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Jerris Bullard will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Paul D. Jones

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul D. Jones, 46, of 237 Ringgold St., died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born July 22, 1951, in Waynesboro, he was the son of Richard P. and Doris E. Bryan Jones of Waynesboro.

He was a 1969 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

Following graduation, he learned his trade at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro. He was most recently employed by AMP Inc., Waynesboro, as a manufacturing engineer tool designer.

He was a member of A.T.H.&L. Fire Co., Waynesboro; South Mountain Golf Course, South Mountain, Pa.; Order of the Owls Nest 1073, Waynesboro; Blue Ridge K-9 Training Center; U.S. Golf Association and Antietam Humane Society, Waynesboro.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer J. Leister of Waynesboro; a companion of 20-plus years, Bonnie A. Speaks; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Sister Seton Marie and the Rev. Lynn D. Trutt will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Arthur D. Miller Sr.

RANSON, W.Va. - Arthur Donald Miller Sr., 70, of Ranson, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at his home.

Born Dec. 3, 1926, in Ranson, he was the son of the late Henry Ernest and Bertha Mae Miller Miller.

He was a graduate of Charles Town High School, Charles Town, W.Va.

He was owner and operator of IGA Market Manor Grocery Store in Charles Town from 1962 to 1989.

He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town.

He served on the Ranson Town Council from 1959 to 1962.

He was an active supporter of the Ranson Civil Club. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Natalie Hough Miller; two daughters, Carolyn N. O'Brien of Charles Town and Barbara M. Hardy of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Arthur Donald Miller Jr. of Charles Town and John Ernest Miller of Ranson; three sisters, Evelyn Holmes of Ranson, Florence Place of Martinsburg and Viola Nelson of New Jersey; one brother, Harold Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Miller and Mabel Miller.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town. The Rev. John Bower will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 221 E. Washington St., Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Helen R. Mills

Helen Ruth Mills, 84, of 7 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at her home.

Born Aug. 2, 1913, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James Lee and Agatha Ruth Hopp Mills.

She was a former employee of C&P Telephone and retired from Glen L. Martin Co.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by one brother, Joseph Lee Mills of Baltimore; three nieces; one nephew and three cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
