Richard H. Collyer
Richard H. Collyer, 67, of 102 Harvard Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Meriden, Conn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Catherine Collyer.
He was a retired salesman with Hamilton-Pontiac-Nissan. He also was a radio announcer with WARK and with the public relations department at Charles Town Races.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378; Williamsport Redmen; and Potomac Playmakers.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Bupp Collyer; twin daughters, Connie L. Ferrera and Bonnie C. Miller, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Jay J. Collyer of Tampa, Fla.; two grandsons; and twin great-granddaughters.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Janis Welch Dorsey will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
E. Rayetta Witmer
BOONSBORO - E. Rayetta Witmer, 52, of 708 N. Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 21, 1945, in Rohrersville, she was the daughter of Sallie Cook Sisler of Trego, Md., and the late Charles H. Sisler.
She had been employed by Washington County Hospital for 32 years.
She was a member and past president of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion Auxiliary in Boonsboro; and a member of the national and local chapters of the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists. She was a former member of Wednesday Night Mixed Bowling League at Dual Lanes in Hagerstown.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, David I. Witmer, whom she married on Oct. 21, 1966; one daughter, Christine D. Witmer of Philadelphia; one sister, Bonnie Hoffman of Falling Waters, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Glenda Sisler.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Mallin will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Daniel M. Ferguson
LAUREL, Md. - Daniel Michael Ferguson, 49, of Laurel, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, in Covington, Va.
Born Nov. 24, 1948, in Baltimore, he was the son of Danie Ferguson of Falling Waters, W.Va., and the late Margaret Virginia Murray Ferguson.
He was employed as a truck driver by Apollo Trucking in Jessup, Md.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1504, Laurel.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two daughters, Amy Celeste Ashby of Laurel and Danielle Ferguson of Catonsville, Md.; five sisters, Mary Murray of Hedgesville, W.Va., Sue Miller of Falling Waters, Ann Wallen of Martinsburg, W.Va., Sherry Allen of Laurel and Margaret Johnson of Jessup; four brothers, Clifford Ferguson of Jessup, John Ferguson of Hedgesville, Paul Ferguson of Falling Waters and Adam Ferguson of Bracey, Va.; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert F. Caplinger Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Marlowe, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Sophia A. Conley
WILLIAMSPORT - Sophia A. "Nat" Conley, 99, formerly of Otho Holland Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Clearview Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 4, 1898 in Millstone, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clinton Eff and Mary Jane Hastings Zimmerman.
Her first husband, Charles Poffenberger, died in 1949.
Her second husband, Herbert Eugene Conley, died in 1955.
She was employed as a seamstress for Barnhart's Overall Factory in Williamsport for 25 years.
She attended Williamsport United Methodist Church in Williamsport.
She was a member of Potomac Post 202 Ladies Auxiliary in Williamsport, Red Feather Council 59 Degree of Pocahontas, and the Democratic Party.
She is survived by one daughter, Maxine Poffenberger Long of Williamsport; one son, Cletus E. "Boots" Poffenberger of Williamsport; one grandson, Ludwig Long II of Granby, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Anderson, Minnie Wolfe and Ossia Kline; and four brothers, Russell Zimmerman, William Zimmerman, Charles Zimmerman and Earl Zimmerman.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Williamsport.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open after 5 p.m. today.

Catherine V. Baker
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Catherine V. Baker, 79, of Coxey Brown Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 18, 1918, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy H. and Anna Cline Dutrow.
Her husband, Elmer "Hez" Baker, died in June.
She was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren for more than 50 years.
She also was a member of AARP.
She loved cooking.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy L. Graham of Frederick, Ruth Ann Hartsock and Cathy Capino, both of Myersville; one son, Harry E. Baker of Myersville; three sisters, Grace Mullinex of Ijamsville, Md., Dorothy Ausherman of Frederick, and Mildred Bendetta of Fort Charlotte, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ausherman and Rita Morris; and two brothers, Claude Dutrow and Albert Dutrow.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harmony Church of the Brethren in Harmony, Md. The Rev. Tracy Wiser will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Edith G. Reynolds
Edith G. Reynolds, 86, who died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, is formerly of 11022 Roessner Ave., Hagerstown.
Odello M. Leiter
Odello McCardell Leiter, 84, a resident of Ravenwood and formerly of Hagerstown and Clearwater, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 19, 1913, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Franklin Scott and Edna McCardell Leiter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Priscilla Friedly Leiter.
He graduated cum laude from Wharton School of Finance of the University of Pennsylvania.
He was president of the family business, Leiter Brothers Department Store, in Hagerstown. Earlier he had been employed by Best and Co. in New York City.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the original crew of the aircraft carrier USS Midway. He retired with the rank of lieutenant.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
He was a member of Fountain Head Country Club; American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; University of Pennsylvania Varsity Club; and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks 378. He participated in local amateur baseball.
He was president in 1941 of Hagerstown Rotary Club, where he had 53 years of perfect attendance; president of Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he received statewide honors, and director, representing Maryland at the national level; president of Senior Chamber of Commerce in 1952; president of Washington County Hospital Board from 1974 to 1975; a member of the board of directors of the Second National Bank; and later a member of the advisory board of the Maryland National Bank; and president of Community Chest, predecessor to the United Way. He served on Executive Board of the Washington County Council Boy Scouts of America; American Red Cross as industrial chairman; vice president of Washington County Public Health Association; and in 1941 he was appointed chief deputy air raid warden and later personnel director of Washington County Office of Civilian Defense.
He is survived by two sisters, Catherine Leiter Bowman and Anna Leiter Hershey, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Franklin Scott Leiter of Hagerstown and Richard Maxwell Leiter of Cross Junction, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Leiter Remsberg and Edna Mae Gysberts.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. Honorary and active pallbearers will be members of the Hagerstown Rotary Club.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley V. Kern
PLEASANTVILLE, Md. - Shirley Virginia Kern, 71, of Pleasantville, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Sept. 5, 1926, in Millville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mable V. Dillow Fry.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her husband, of 54 years, George W. Kern; three sons, Ronald L. Kern and James R. Kern, both of Ranson, W.Va., and Robert W. Kern of Pleasantville; two sisters, Patsy A. Zombro of Halltown, W.Va., and Linda Housden of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three brothers, Maurice Moore Jr. and Thomas Moore, both of Charles Town, W.Va., and Donald Moore of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Harder.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. George M. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery, Samples Manor, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Hiliary P. Lynch
Hiliary Pierce Lynch, 91, formerly of 127 Englewood Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born Oct. 17, 1906, in Benevola, Md., he was the son of the late William H. and Nannie Main Lynch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Irene Lynch, in 1988.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft, for 30 years, retiring in 1972.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by one son, Richard P. Lynch of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Diebert and Ethel Shifler; and three brothers, Donald Lynch, Hubert Lynch and Willie Lynch.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Lans E. Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
