March 3, 2000

Louise Virginia McCarty, a lifelong resident of Talbot County, died on Friday, March 3, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 89.

Born in Easton on January 25, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Walter Howard and Elizabeth Collins Gardner. On November 12, 1927, she married John Warner McCarty, Sr. Mr. McCarty died on February 28, 1965. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Easton.

Mrs. McCarty is survived by three daughters, Ruth Louise Horn of Easton, Vera Elizabeth Anthony of Clayton, DE, and Blanche Leah Fluharty of Dover, DE; four sons, John Warner McCarty, Jr. of East New Market, James Linwood McCarty of Harmony, Charles Everett McCarty and Willard Lee McCarty, both of Easton; three sisters, Margaret DeFord, Doris Harrison, and Gertrude Kilman, all of Easton; 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. A brother, Walter Gardner, is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Monday, March 6, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton.

March 2, 2000

Joseph Edward Yealdhall of Stevensville, MD died at the Anne Arundel Medical Center on Thursday, March 2, 2000. He was 76.

Mr. Yealdhall was born on September 8, 1923 in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Edward Martin and Bertha Gallagher Yealdhall. He grew up in West Baltimore, where he attended St. Martin’s Catholic School. He then attended St. Charles in Catonsville, MD, and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD, after which he was ordained. He remained in the Baltimore Archdiocese for 24 years as a priest serving at St. Catherine’s Siena of Baltimore, MD, St. Patrick’s in Havre de Grace, MD, St. Paul’s in Ellicott City, MD and St. Bernard’s in Baltimore, MD. While in the priesthood, he served as Chaplain in the Army Reserves and as National Chaplain for Catholic War Veterans of America. He left the priesthood and became a registered optician for the University of Maryland Medical Center. On April 12, 1972 he married Mary Agnes Hobbs of Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Joseph Yealdhall is survived by: his wife, Mary Agnes Yealdhall of Stevensville, MD, two sons, Vincent Edward Yealdhall of Virginia Beach, VA and Mark Joseph Yealdhall of Tallahassee, FL, a daughter, Marie Andrea Yealdhall of Stevensville, MD, a brother, Bud Yealdhall of Reisterstown, MD and a grandson, Marcus Anthony Cox.

A Funeral Liturgy for Mr. Yealdhall will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, 2000 at 11 AM at the St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Friends and family may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD on Sunday, March 5, 2000 between the hours of 3 and 5 PM. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Queenstown, MD.

Harvey Watterson Wallender, III, of Easton, 57, passed away at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore on Thursday, March 2, 2000.

Born in El Paso, Texas, on January 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Harvey W. Wallender, Jr. and Annie Laurie Kirkpatrick Wallender. After graduating from the Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, which included a year's study in Madrid, Spain and graduated with a BA in 1965. In 1966 he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the 8th Special Forces Group stationed in South America.

Wallender had a wide-ranging career in international technology transfer and marketing, including consulting and teaching positions in New York, Washington, DC and Maryland. In 1990 he founded his own consulting firm, Market and Technology Access Services, Inc. and served as Senior Advisor to the International Executive Service Corps.

He was attending Wesley Theological Seminary at the time of his death, studying more intensively the Christian faith that had sustained his spirit throughout his life. He was an Elder in the National Presbyterian Church and also Chair of US/Urban Outreach Programs. Wallender will be remembered by so many for his ability to listen and encourage young and old and help them develop their own unique gifts. His passions included family, friends and the study of theology, philosophy, literature and art.

Wallender is survived by his wife, the former Fay Jean Hooker, whom he married in December 1993; a daughter, Lauren M. Wallender of Boston, and a son, Austin K. Wallender and his wife, Candace Nycz of Easton, Maryland and his beloved dog, "Bumpo".

Funeral services will be held at the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., NW, Washington, DC on Friday, March 10, 2000

At 2:00 PM. The burial will take place at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 AM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Third Street Church of God, Urban Prayer Breakfast, 1204 Third Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 or One Ministries Unique Learning Center, 1238 New Jersey Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20001.

March 1, 2000

Emily Mae Biggs of Elkton, Md. formally of Cecilton, Md. died Wednesday March 1st. 2000, in the Laurelwood Nursing home, Elkton, Md. of heart failure. She was 92.

Mrs. Biggs was born in Earleville, Md. the daughter of the late James and Emma Loller.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Biggs was a lifelong resident of the Earleville, Cecilton area

And was a 65 year member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Cecilton.

Mrs. Biggs is survived by 1- son R. Nelson Biggs of New Castle, De. 1- Daughter Virginia B. Dunbar, of Thorpe, Pa. 1- Brother, Crawford Loller of Elkton, Md. and 1- sister, Elsie L. Blanchfield, of Federalsburg. Md. 8 – grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 1- great great grandchild.

Mrs. Biggs was predeceased by her husband C. Raymond Biggs and a daughter Doris B. Long.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday March 6th. 2000 at 11am from the Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral home 226 E. Main St Cecilton, Md. . where friends and family may call after 10am.

Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery, Cecilton, Md.

Newton Jacob Wildasin of Easton died at the Genesis Eldercare- The Pines, Easton on Wednesday, March 1, 2000. He was 90.

Born September 12, 1909, near Hanover, Pennsylvania, one of thirteen children, he was the son of the late Murdith and Mary C. Monath Wildasin. He was raised in the Hanover area where he attended public school. Shortly after his marriage in 1934 to the former, Marie Mary Bollinger, they moved to Westminster, MD where he worked at the Navy Shipyard in Baltimore then Koontz Dairy before joining the Congoleum Industries. He retired from the company in 1974 with 30 years of service as a pipefitter foreman.

He was a member of the Westminster Optimist Club and the Westminster Church of the Brethren. He moved to Easton in 1998.

His wife died in March 1977.

Mr. Wildasin is survived by a son, N. Edward Wildasin of Easton; three sisters, Grace Baugher, Miriam Phaff and Helena Decker, all of Hanover, PA; three brothers, Herbert R. Wildasin of Gettysburg, PA, Ralph M. Wildasin of Hanover, PA and Harold M. Wildasin of Thurmont, MD and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, MD where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at the Meadow Branch Cemetery, Westminster, MD, that afternoon at 2:30 PM.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mark's United Methodist Church Memorial/Scholarship Fund, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601 or to the Westminster Church of the Brethren, Bond Street and Park Place, Westminster, MD 21157.

April 30, 2000

Benjamin Muck of Rock Hall, Maryland, formally of Virginia, Minnesota, died on April 30th, 2000 at the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, Maryland. He was 87 years of age.

Born on November 5th, 1912, in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of the late Max and Ida [Klein] Muck. He spent all of his formative years in the New York City area, and was a graduate of the Cooper Union Engineering School in New York City.

He lived in Virginia, Minnesota for many years with his wife. He was the senior partner and the President of Mesbar Mechanical Engineering Contractor, Inc. Mr. Muck, due to failing health comes to Rock Hall, to live with his brother, George Muck.

A brother, Jonah Muck and a sister Sophie Muck precede Mr. Muck in death

His wife Marie Elizabeth Muck of Virginia, Minnesota, a stepson Lee Brown of Virginia Minnesota, along with his business partner William Pepelnjak and personal secretary, Lisa Celley both of Virginia, Minnesota, survive him.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Virginia, Minnesota.

April 29,2000

Edith Beall Spindler, 85, native of Baltimore County died on April 29, 2000 at her home in Stevensville, MD. Born at home in Stevensville, MD on November 5, 1914, she was the youngest of the six children of the late William Preston Beall and Hannah Cardwell Beall. Mrs. Spindler graduated from Franklin High School and Towson State Teachers College with a degree in teaching. She taught most of her life in Baltimore County, retiring from Homewood School in Roland Park in 1974. For many years Mrs. Spindler worked with her husband of 47 years, Jervis, deceased in 1985, at Painter’s Mill Music Theater. She was a member of Stevenson United Methodist Church until closing in 1999. She and her husband retired to their Chesapeake Bay home in Stevensville, MD in 1977. She spent her late years enjoying her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, the Baltimore Orioles and travel to her ancestral towns of England and Ireland.

In addition to her three daughters, Jeanne Armstrong of Wedderburn, Oregon. Phyllis Howing of Winterville, Georgia; and Judy Peppel of Stevensville, MD; she is survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Osborne Beall of Stevensville, MD and many nieces and nephews and life long friends.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Stevensville, MD on Sunday, May 7, 2000 at 2 PM. All her friends and family are invited to attend this celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s County 300 Del Rhodes Ave. Queenstown, MD 21658 or the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 27, Stevensville, MD 21666.

Anna Avaleen Thompson of Chester, Md. died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on April 29,2000. She was 75.

She was born on April 22, 1925 in Chester, Md., the daughter of the late McKinley and Amelia Pinder Thomas. Mrs. Thompson was a life long resident of Chester, Md. She graduated from Stevensville High School in the class of 1942. She then attended McQueen Gibbs Nursing School in Easton, Md. She married her husband Donald Thompson Sr. in 1946. She worked for the Department of Natural Resources in Annapolis, Md. for 20 years. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Kent Island United Methodist Church, W.S.C.S., past President of the VFW Auxiliary, and the past President of the Chester Homemakers Association. Mrs. Thompson in her free time loved working with her hands making numerous crafts as well as making porcelain dolls and shopping. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Donald Thompson Sr. of Chester, Md. one son Donald Thompson Jr. of Cordova, Md.; two grandchildren Donald Thompson III of Cordova, Md. and Stephanie Thompson of Cambridge, Md.; and one great-grandchild Haley Thompson of Cordova, Md. She was predeceased by her son Kevin Thompson.

Those gentlemen who will be acting, as casket-bearers are Gerald, Clifford, Kenny, Walt, Patrick, and Bruce Thompson, Morris Barton and James Barton III.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday May 3,2000 at 1:00P.M. at Kent Island United Methodist Church. Family and friends may call on Tuesday May 2,2000 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, Md. between the hours of 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Kent Island Volunteer Fire Dept. P.O. Box 660 Chester, Md. 21619. And the American Cancer Society of Queen Anne’s County P.O. Box 1306 Easton, Md. 21601.

April 28, 2000

Carl Martin of Stevensville, MD died at his home on Friday, April 28, 2000. He was 82.

Born on October 23, 1917 in Washington DC, the son of the late Francis Joseph and Annie Mitchell Martin. He graduated from St. Johns High School and was a member of their marching band. He was a Veteran of World war II, serving in the Army Air Core. He married Mary Lee Martin in 1941 and they resided in Metropolitan Washington DC for most of his life. Mr. Martin owned and worked for the Georgetown Silver Shoppe. He was also a member of Jimmy Ganley’s Band in the late 1930’s. After his retirement, he worked as a Real Estate Appraiser. The Martin’s moved to Stevensville, MD in 1994. Carl Martin was very instrumental in the development of the Langley Park Boys and Girls Club.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Lee Martin; two sons, Calvin Martin of Stevensville, MD and Carl Martin Jr. of Queenstown, MD, a daughter, Christine Getz of Allentown, PA, two sister, Loretta of Annapolis, MD and Louise of Hyattsville, MD, as well as 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph George Martin.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 1, 2000 at 11 AM at the Christ Episcopal Church in Stevensville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s County 300 Del Rhodes Ave. Queenstown, MD 21658.

Marion L. Rosswork of Centreville, MD. , Formerly of Annapolis, MD, died on April 28, 2000 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. She was 95.

Born on February 13, 1905 in Philadelphia, PA. The daughter of the late John E. and Helen E. Cavanaugh Hagerty. Graduate from St. Lawrence High School in Philadelphia, PA. On August 5, 1933 she married Paul E. Rosswork of Atlantic City, N.J. Mrs. Rosswork raised her family in Philadelphia until 1948 when she moved to Annapolis, MD. After her family was raised they moved to Norfolk, VA. And later to Winter Park, FL. Her husband predeceased her in 1986 shortly after returning to Annapolis, MD. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD.

She is survived by a son Paul E. Rosswork, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fl. Two daughters Joan Hughes of Huston, TX & Marian Waterman of Queenstown, MD. 9 Grandchildren & 9 Great Grandchildren

A funeral mass will be held 11am Thursday May 11th, 2000 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, in Annapolis, MD.

Louise Bartlett Dashiell, a lifelong resident of Easton, died on Friday, April 28, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 95.

Born in Easton on October 17, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Howard H. and Ada Price Eason. She graduated from Easton High School in 1920 and served as a volunteer for the Red Cross during WW II and for the Humane Society of Talbot County for over 10 years. She was married to Ernest Lyston ‘Dick” Dashiell, Jr. from 1935 until his death in 1996.

Mrs. Dashiell was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Easton.

She is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyn M. McDaniel of Easton; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Averille M. Brown, died in 1992.

Graveside services will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton on Monday, May 1, 2000 at 10:00 AM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Talbot County, P.O. Box 1143, Easton, MD 21601 or the Easton Volunteer Fire Department, Creamery Lane, Easton, MD 21601.
