Anna K. Sperow
SMITHSBURG - Anna K. Sperow, 86, of Smithsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 25, 1911, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late John V. and Eva A. Bender Knode.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Sperow, in 1971.
She was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Smithsburg, where she was a member of Ladies Guild; and the church choir.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy A. Williams of Smithsburg and Agnes K. Johnston of Hyndman, Pa.; two brothers, Robert E. Knode and David M. Knode, both of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 9 Maple Ave., Smithsburg. The Rev. Elaine Prince will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Emmett W. Hilton
Emmett W. Hilton, 82, of 13903 Eden Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1915, in Scott County, Va., he was the son of the late James Houston and Virgie Redwine Hilton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Gabriel Hilton, in 1996.
He was a career employee of the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as treasurer for 13 years.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion; and BPO Elks Lodge 378.
He is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Hilton Smith of Crozet, Va.; five sisters, Letha Keesling of Kingsport, Tenn., Ann Orfield of Roanoke, Va., Mary Wittmer, Jeanette Bearinger and Evelyn Hilton, all of Hagerstown; one brother, James H. Hilton of Hagerstown; and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, William H. Hilton.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Colton T. Castle
LITTLE ORLEANS, Md. - Colton Tyler Castle, infant son of Michael J. and Brenda L. Mann Castle, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Michaela J. Castle and Brianna L. Castle, both at home; paternal grandfather, Paulman Castle of Hancock; maternal grandparents, Dale T. and Judith L. Hartman Mann of Little Orleans; paternal great-grandmother, Phoebe Tichnell Barnard of Oakland, Md.; and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Leona J. Barnard Castle.
A graveside service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans. The Rev. Alan Smith will officiate.
Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
Catherine R. Bowers
Catherine Regina Bowers, 72, of 1038 Westport Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 3, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul Raymond Young Sr. and Esther Mae Benner Young.
She was a retired health care worker.
She was a member of the Salvation Army. She served many years as a Sunday school teacher, secretary to the League of Mercy, treasurer to the Home League, girl guard leader, in the annual Christmas toy store, and as a bell ringer for the Christmas kettle drive. She was a supporter of many of the charity projects within the Salvation Army.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Brent A. Bowers Sr.; two daughters, Janet K. Brown of Raleigh, N.C., and Kathy S. Bowers-Baylor of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, Brent A. Bowers Jr. and Terry L. Bowers, both of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Bowers; and two brothers, Paul R. Young Jr. and James J. Young.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. Major Robert S. Henderson and Major David L. Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Nancy J.G. Stover
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Nancy Jane Gregory Stover, 92, of Spartanburg, and formerly of 73 Mount Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro, Pa., and 2525 Colony Ave., Kissimmee, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home, Spartanburg.
Born Jan. 8, 1906, in Bristol, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Phillip Jackson and Mary Ann Harrison Gregory.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Stoner, in 1962; and her second husband, retired Maj. Charles Victory Stover, in 1991.
She was a resident of Waynesboro from 1943 until moving after the death of her second husband.
She had worked at various shoe factories in the Waynesboro area. She also worked for Waynesboro Hospital and three other hospitals in the area. She was last employed for 15 years by Western Maryland Hospital in Hagerstown as a nurse's aide.
She attended Christ United Methodist Church.
She was a past charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and past member of American Legion Auxiliary of Cascade.
She is survived by one son, Avery E. "Gene" Gregory of Chesnee, S.C.; one sister, Lola Connoly of Kingsport, Tenn.; two brothers, John Gregory and Lehman Gregory, both of Honaker, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Robert J. Shea
Robert J. Shea, 82, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Garlock Memorial Home, Hagerstown.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Mary Gimbles Shea.
He retired as a bookkeeper from Todd's Shipyard in New York City.
Services will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Friends may call at the funeral home today 30 minutes prior to the service.
Martha E. Stanley
HANCOCK - Martha Ellen Stanley, 83, of Taliaferro Street, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at her home.
Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Lillie Mae Bishop Coffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Winfred Stanley, in 1967.
She retired from Londontowne Manufacturing in Hancock, as a seamstress. She previously was employed by Jacobs Brothers in Hancock. She was a seamstress after her retirement.
She was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, where she was in the church choir for many years.
She was a member of Hancock Senior Citizens and Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, all of Hancock.
She is survived by two daughters, Wilma Valentine of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Mary Ellen Gladhill of Big Pool; three sons, Owen W. Stanley, Ronald L. Stanley and Robert E. Stanley, all of Hancock; two sisters, Mary O'Rourke and Elda Mellott, both of Hancock; one brother, Charles Coffman of Hancock; one adopted sister, Dottie Coffman of Hancock; 10 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Wink and Edna Hixon; four brothers, Vernon Coffman, Elwood Coffman, Wilson Coffman and Ercel Coffman; and one grandson.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. and Lay Associate Steven L. McCarty will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from noon to 9 p.m.

Thomas L. Nyhart
Thomas Lee Nyhart, 43, of 231 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 4, 1954, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of Elizabeth Schindler of Missouri and the late William Nyhart.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon R. Free Nyhart; stepmother, Betty Nyhart of Ohio; two daughters, Christina Nyhart of Ohio and Jessica Murray of Hagerstown; two sons, Anthony Kline and Eric Moats, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Jackie McElwain of Missouri and Robin Nyhart of Ohio; two brothers, William Nyhart and Chester "Rick" Nyhart, both of Ohio; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Terry Lynn Nyhart.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 42.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Marcus L. Williams
Marcus Lee Williams, 77, of 113 Stanford Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 5, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Marcus William and Violet Hilton Godlove Williams.
He was employed by Statton Furniture Manufacturing Co. as a truck driver, retiring in 1980.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a life member of North American Rod and Gun Club, Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club, Goodwill Club of Hagerstown and American Legion Funkstown Post 211.
He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Viola Dana Trumpower; one son, Roger Dale Williams of Hagerstown; one sister, Madge Wetzel of Hagerstown; one brother, Hoit Williams of Hagerstown; and one grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
