Clifton M. Bachtell
Clifton Macedon Bachtell Jr., 81, of 901 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born Aug. 17, 1916, in Mills Stone, Md., he was the son of the late Clifton and Ruby Heil Bachtell.
His wife, Elizabeth Bachtell, died in 1994.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42; Friendship Lodge 84, AF&AM; and Alsatia Club.
He was the last of his family.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Prince of Peace Chapel, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Grace E. Yeager
Grace Elizabeth Yeager, 84, of 19904 Blue Heron Lane, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Aug. 24, 1913, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Hiriam and Susan Parmer Shupp.
She attended the former Hagerstown High School.
She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of Northside Mennonite Church in Hagerstown.
She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Milton E. Yeager, whom she married May 24, 1932; two daughters, Louise Hunsberger of Perkasie, Pa., and Betty Wood of Howe, Ind.; one son, Merle Yeager of Centreville, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, George Yeager and Glenn Yeager; one sister, Julia White; and one grandson.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Northside Mennonite Church, 716 N. Locust St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Gary Zook and the Rev. Nelson Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Reiff Mennonite Church Cemetery near Cearfoss.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Memorial donations may be made to Northside Mennonite Church, 716 N. Locust St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to one's favorite charity.
Francis J. Gaughan
FREDERICK, Md. - Francis J. Gaughan, 76, of Frederick, and formerly of Winchester, Va., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Clifton, N.J., he was the son of Antoinette Otten Gaughan, and the late Frank Gaughan.
His wife, Marilyn Ferguson Gaughan, preceded him in death.
He was a self-employed cabinet maker.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served during World War II.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia McGill of Burke, Va., Maureen James of Frederick, and Sharon Stewart of Kailua, Hawaii; two sons, Francis J. Gaughan Jr. of Poway, Calif., and Kevin R. Gaughan of Ramona, Calif.; three sisters, Annette Ryan and Virginia Bossia, both of Toms River, N.J., and Margaret Stuckey of Manahawkin, N.J.; one brother, William Gaughan of Clifton; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Toms River, N.J. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Russell E. Weaver
Russell Edward Weaver, 73, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 27, 1924, in Luray, Va., he was the son of the late Edward Lewis and Blanche Marie Benner Weaver.
He was employed by Arnold Graphics Business Forms, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Peoples Gospel Tabernacle.
He is survived by his wife, Jane M. Hose Weaver; one daughter, Wanda O. Weaver Watkins of Williamsport; one sister, Vivian Winfield of Myersville, Md.; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin L. Weaver.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Lyndon B. Zecher
Lyndon Bowlus Zecher, 85, of 308 E. Magnolia Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born March 31, 1912, in Middletown, Md., he was the son of the late Mark and Nora L. Zecher Delauder.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 1st Armored Division in North Africa. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for 28 months.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, United Church of Christ.
He also was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF&AM, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, and W.D. Byron Post 1938 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor H. Zecher.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rhoda Frank.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Arthur C. Westfall Jr.
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Arthur Charles Westfall Jr., 74, of 759 Maryland Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 13, 1923, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur Charles Westfall Sr. and Elvina Sara Shingledecker Westfall. He was the stepson of the late Doris Westfall.
He retired as a brakeman from B&O Railroad with 38 years of service.
He served with the U.S. Army Military Police from 1945 to 1948.
He was a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church.
He also was a member of Ridgeley, W.Va., Senior Citizens.
He is survived by one daughter, Jacquline Dively of Cumberland; two sons, Stephen Matthew Westfall of Hagerstown, and Rusty Dively of Kingsport, Tenn.; four sisters, Allene Jones, Marlene Regina Hebb, Shirley Lee Johnson and Patricia Ann Hite, all of Cumberland; two brothers, William Richard Westfall of Mead, Wash., and Donald Eugene Westfall of Cumberland; his fiancee of 14 years, Eleanor Woods; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland. The Rev. James K. Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Rocky Gap, Md., with military graveside honors by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ruth P. Lewis
Ruth Patricia Lewis, 62, of 1422 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Baltimore.
Born May 1, 1935, in Chestnut Grove, Md., she was the daughter of the late Wilbur John and Ellen Iola Gross Lapole.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg.
She is survived by her husband, Donald I. Lewis Sr. of Hagerstown; one son, Donald I. Lewis Jr. of Hagerstown; and four sisters, Marie Churchey and Alice Witmer, both of Sharpsburg, Carlene Snyder of Hagerstown and Mary Sperow of Boonsboro.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Lapole; and two brothers, James Lapole and Norman Lapole.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Walter Clark will officiate.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Thursday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Abel E. Martin
Abel E. Martin, 80, a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his home.
Born March 20, 1917, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the son of late Phares H. and Fannie E. Eby Martin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva S. Martin Martin, in 1997. They were married Dec. 21, 1940.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Dorcas E. Horst of Hagerstown; three sons, Dr. Enos D. Martin of Elizabethtown, Pa., Truman E. Martin and Joseph E. Martin, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Amanda Martin, Mary Martin and Florence Martin, all of Maugansville; two brothers, Phares E. Martin and Reuben A. Martin, both of Hagerstown; 30 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church, 12403 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown. Ministers Maurice Martin, Landis Martin and Jacob Byers will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa.; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
